Bear Mccreary is an absolute beast. Love to see composers getting the recognition they deserve.
The only good about Rings of Power is the soundtrack. Crazy composer.
I love him getting a character in the game! I can feel the love and passion that went into the music for every track.
Loved his work in Black Sails which is a criminally underrated show. I was really shocked and happy to hear that he was working on GoWR, even if I won't be able to play it.
@@dinmavric5504 khazad-dum is one of the best dwarven themes ever made
fr, his gow and godzilla scores are top tier for me
Was not prepared for how epic Bear McCreary would look performing.
He is such a ✨✨Vibe ✨✨
😂 wish I was that cool
Hahahaha 😅😅😅
Look? What about how beautiful that voice is?
@@sarahcolegrove9139 That's Hozier
Everyone is just super serious when performing and Bear McCreary is just there headbanging while playing the goofiest instrument ever and it's fantastic to see!
I didn't know that's an actual instrument. The melody it makes is beautiful
It's called the hurdy gurdy and it's a real medieval instrument
Also look up Patty Gurdy
Omnia and Faun also have hurdy-gurdy players. They're all awesome
Wait that's the composer? Haha, that's awesome! I'll have to check out more of the score and his stuff.
I swear hozier is just an ancient forest God reincarnated to sing about his past lives, and its totally perfect for God of war. Stunning 😭
He is Tyr
Hozier is just the physical, mortal form of Týr
IKR... I thought he was a Norwegian. I sitting here like , "who is this VIKING MF?" LOL
We’ve been saying this
New head canon
Hozier’s vocals are insane
its so effortless for him its insane
finally someone who is praising Hozier for once
@@stavroskoul8782 Come now, I'm sure plenty of people praise Hozier. You don't get gigs like this if you're not up to a certain standard.

i didn’t expect to get emotional, but the moment the choir started singing, my eyes welled up. the journey i went through with kratos, atreus, freya, sindri. brok, AND mimir in the game will always be in my heart.
❤
I admire to what depth the story affects you. It moves me.

Bear McCreary: Wins Best Score at Game Awards
Also Bear McCreary: Headbangs while playing a Hurdy Gurdy and a Chorus does Nordic Chants
Bear McCreary, also: breaks hearts with acoustic fiddles.
Still Bear McCreary: let's have ALL THE PERCUSSION AND BAGPIPES!
(Thank you, Bear, for your work on Battlestar Galactica)
I was looking for this type of comment :) plus the comment about battlestar galactica
I love the Bear is just absolutely vibing up on the stage, you can tell he's so happy to be up there
It's cool that there's a musician character based on him in the game.
Its not very often that a Hurdy Gurdy gets so much recognition. He got such a prominent spot on stage, I bet he was more than happy to show off his skills with that beautiful instrument.
Hits harder when you've completed the game.
God yes it does!
One of few games I had to 100% which is rare these days.
yuppp
"A hole."
After Brocks.......😭😭
Hozier makes it look so easy. His vocals are insanely good. What an amazing performance.
Bear McCreary is a beast. After Battlestar Galactica I never imagined he can come out with and OST more impactfull. I was wrong.
Godzilla KOTM is hella fire as well
oh man, Battlestar is still his crowning work for me, but for sure the artistry he's brought to GOW has been incredible, especially the Huldra brothers melody.
Black Sails ost is blasting
He also composed for Angry Video Game Nerd Movie
@@kayagoksoy Thought the same
This song fits the game like a glove, it’s carries the themes, the tone, and when the og God of War theme comes on, mmmm🗿👌
I’d like to think so, it was made for the game.

I just love how Bear is rocking out with a hurdy-gurdy throughout the song. I wish they had more shots of him. It's so badass to see!
i loved that he was a dwarf in the game and recked the hurdy-gurdy again :)
@@philcordwell9123 My boyfriend and I played the game together and absolutely lost our minds when we first ran into him. Our level of nerd is almost on par with the devs' level of legend 😂😂

It is heartbreaking song.. but also loving
OptimumPride heart breaking yes but also epic for battle.
for me this makes me feel like almost the end of the war and you can see everyone suffering, corpse everywhere and you're covered in blood and mud
this man just casually belts out the most stunning and chilling vocals ever
Hozier is a phenomenal performer on and off stage. His voice is so consistent between the studio and the stage
Incredible performance all around but I do want to draw attention to the fact that we just got a live hurdy gurdy performance in 2022, this may be the best timeline
If you like a good guide performance you'll like patty gurdy :)
@@moneefictionoooh seconded, I love her.

Absolutely ripping that Hurdy Gurdy
What an eloquent way to put it. He did indeed
Rewatching this and something fascinating I never even noticed is Hozier must have been having issues with his In-Ear Monitors during the song. At 0:56 you can see him adjusting them, realises it doesnt work then goes for his mic box at 1:06. Probably couldnt hear himself the whole time and still gave a perfect performance.
Man. After THAT scene in game when this song started playing i was so emotional.
When does it play? I went through the whole story and couldn’t find it
@@hazelmarie3219 spoilers alert. Aftet beating the game you get a quest to go to brokk's funeral. After sending off brokk you go to leave and another credit roll goes by and it plays
It got me right there too I couldn't help it now I want the real life movie I know it would do the same
the funeral was the last mission i did after 100% completing all the realm. it was perfect and emotional ending as this song play during the credit
A hole .. this has left this game and that scene … a giant hole❤
This song has been stuck in my mind for the last couple weeks, and I love it, I love the theme, red on white, blood upon snow, ofc means literal blood on snow, and Kratos’ red tattoos that he got to honor his dead brother, on his white skin, which his the ashes of his dead wife and daughter, and this might be a reach but, “every bird, gone unheard, starving where the ground has froze” could be talking about Freya, she can transform into a bird, and her “ground froze” when she held her dead son in her arms “starving” could be “starving for revenge” which she is, but again, this might be a huge huge reach, I haven’t seen any videos on what the meaning of the song is, but the main idea is pretty straightforward
Respectfully, that was quite an interpretation you just took us on.
Truly a w interpretation.
Honoring lysandra, calliope, and Deimos.
Also the beginning and end 2 lines I think reflects Freya, her being nature.
Enter the English teacher
hozier is perfect for this. his writing is so good
You can really hear Hozier’s Irish accent in this performance ☘️
He is Irish yes
@@TheKennyboy92 they said that

The way that chant has evolved over the games, absolutely sublime 🤌🏽

🥶
I can't understand they could give such an amazing and sentimental performance and not break down to tears. Magnificent.
Ik this is more of a rhetorical question but I think about that kind of stuff a lot, I bet it's because they had to rehearse it a bunch
@@Axmza Obviously yeah, though sometimes the sentiment behind a song can really give you chills and tears even after years of performing/ listening to it. For me, for example, The Unforgiven by Metallica, is often a tear jerker.
Its concert musicians etiquette and the vinductors orientation for the orchestta musicians not to demonstrate these kinds of feeling while playing. Dont like it either
@@ruanschneider8217 You don’t like the musicians doing their job?
Honestly, at like 3:18 hozier looks like he's blinking away tears.
This has already become one of my favorite songs. And I just love how Hozier's voice is the same in the albums and when he performs live. He is truly amazing as is McCreary.
Bear McCreary headbanging to the Hurdy Gurdy will never not be iconic
when you see a singer putting their mic that far away from their mouth and producing such a volume you know you're witnessing a legend.
This game has some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard in my entire life. Perfect balance of hype, sadness, mystery, and beauty.
Bear is also an amazing human being. At Comic Con years ago when he was not as well known he sat and ate cookies with a friend of mine and her husband since no one had barely come to his table. He was kind and humble. She has passed but she said it was one of the best times she ever had. Thanks Bear.
2:32 When the God of War theme kicks in... Literal chills
"this world takes more strength than it gave me." hits so hard
How could this not win a Grammy?
Absolutely stolen. Jedi Survivor had nothing on this
I need to see Hozier live again. Man just casually sings the most beautiful way you’ve ever heard
Man, these two (Bear and Hozier) should do more collabs together. Every second of this composition is far beyond fabulous.
Bear McCreary is absolutely legendary! His work on Battlestar Galatica, The Walking Dead, Black Sails, Outlander, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and of course God of War: Ragnarok, just proves it. He is absolutely one of the best modern composers of all time.
He is the only great thing about Rings of Power then. :D
Don't forget Agents of Shield. Man has raaaaaaaaaange
Crushed it with the Outlander soundtrack. Absolutely unparalleled talent out of this guy.
SO SAY WE ALL
My favourite score of his is for sure Professor and the Madman, that score is so good.
0:02 I love how excited Chris Judge is at the bottom
2:04 and the rest of that verse absolutely communicate with my soul in a way that i simply can't put in to words. It feels like i not only relate to the words, but the feeling of the words as well. This is the pinnacle of unfathomable beauty.
I keep coming back to this live version of blood upon the snow all for one reason: Hozier's more prominent accent.

Hozier has a very good voice, great singing. Bear is a master with his instrument and the backing singers goose bumps.
My god, I feel like Hozier is the oldest soul on earth whom has been reincarnated and sings about his past life experiences… it’s unbelievable how beautiful his voice is. And bear is a genius in his own right, one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever heard. The lyrics in this song are devastating.
Once I heard this song at the end credits, I downloaded it and the rest of the games sound track...I've never heard a more fitting song for a game!
It's amazing !
You should try Metal Gear Solid saga too
@@antoniog6293 I’ve played all of those as well except the last one…they also have great soundtracks
I can't stop listening to this. It's so beautiful. The message to me portrays someone who hates their past self, the violence they caused was needed but they don't like what they did. This person has grown to try a more peaceful approach- yet is still forced to revert to their old ways.
Agreed but also honoring those he failed in the past. His wife, daughter, and brother. He never forgot them and wants to be a man they would be proud of. A man who must be better.
Like many people who beat God of War Ragnarok, I heard this song for the first time when the credits played. I remember seeing THAT scene at the optional end of the game and literally lifting the headphones off of my head and then hearing music going, "nope, let's hear it"... Look I love video game music, I listen to soundtracks a lot.. I was not expecting to be smacked up and down with HARD lyrics, a great orchestra, the hurdy gurdy as one of the main instruments and overall literally, LITERALLY sit in my chair just staring off into my room listening... Games and movies don't always do that. We're far too eager to just go, "oh, black screen and credits!? WELP!" and jump up and start posting to social media. No, this hit hard.
How folk still don’t appreciate @HOZIER and his music…
Not gonna lie shed a tear what a beautiful performance
I adore how into it Christopher Judge is at the start. Just look at him nodding away with that big smile on his face. Bless him.
Bear has come a long way since Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles. Been a fan ever since. Everybody that hasn't heard his work before should definitely check out the theme song from that show.
a lot of people don't remember Sarah Connor chronicles it's a shame..but I know exactly what you mean💯💯 and I miss it like crazy
Real OG's remember Knights of Badassdom
Battlestar galactica
First time I heard his music was Agents of Shield. The score for the show as a whole didn't leave that much of an impact, but the main title theme for that show is one of the best I've ever heard
Or all of the music he’s done for Outlander.
If I could go back in time and play God of War Ragnarok for the first time I’d do it in a heartbeat. That masterpiece of a game will forever go down as one of my favorite games of all time.
This performance gave me goosebumps. What an incredible song! Well done to everyone involved, you should all be proud!! 👏👏👏
that transition at the end into the main theme is absolute genius
He could sing the phone book and I'd buy it. What a voice.

Bear McCreary and Hozier absolutely SNAPPED ON THISSSSSSS
This song hits hard when Brok comes to mind.. His death in the game was the saddest I've ever seen..

Bear Mcreary is why I listen to soundtracks as their own music genre. In God of War especially, he's just insane at finding ways to introduce the main theme with that choir at the perfect time.
Somehow hozier gives me tyr vibes plus goosebumps ☺️

Hozier is one of Ireland's best singers and this shows it 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
This needs to win an award hands down. There hasn't been a song in the game world that's has hit me as emotionally as this one did. Hozier voice was made for this game.
The best song to come out a video game, ever. This is my centering song. If I'm angry, sad, confused, etc. This is the song I play to bring me back. GOW is more than a video game. It's a story, fully immersive and loved by so many. When Brok died, I was honestly sad and close to shedding a tear.
Thank you Santa Monica studios and Bear McCreary for this wonderful experience called God of War.
I think that GoW had the perfect timing for release, the hype was guiding this game for its rewards, love it.

Legit crying. That was absolutely beautiful.
That audio is so well behaved I would have been screaming my lungs out from the moment he opened his mouth this was such an amazing performance
I don't think it was manners as much as it was lack of appreciation. Some were impressed by his vocals, but that shot of bored faces at the end irritated me. They don't have to be into a thing to understand it was good, even great, for its genre.
Hozier is so incredilble! Very talent so amazing this voice and this song. Perfect!
The change from the beggining to the end just shows how kratos was and how he is now
