love how yennefer smiled when she realized that jaskier was the sandpiper
I loved that part as much as Ioved this performance. Well done Jaskier.
@@justadad6677 well done Joey Batey*
@@jorritvanderkooi939 Semantics. He is Jasksier/Dandelion. Just like Henry Cavill is Geralt of Rivia.
yennefer smile was probably the smile of all the fans..i smiled just as silly when i realised Jaskier.is back
Jesus Christ I watched this episode and I didn’t realize he was the piper lmao
Jaskier being the Taylor Swift of the Witcher universe in which he writes songs about his exes. HAHAHA
Oi… this is an emotional song don’t be funny 😂
You have no right to be this funny lmao
Nah Taylor writes breakup songs. This was post breakup "fuck you in particular" song
Can't wait for the short film then
@@vlavrentiekutubidzosani but that’s literally what does Taylor does. She writes songs about her exes.
He is an example of perfect casting
Honestly Joey should just be in more TV shows/movies
no
@@gabrielferreira8393 It should have been Jack Black :)
I think he's good, but my choice if he were about 12 years younger would have been Matt Berry. He's also a talented musician and is a cad/dandy in a few of his other roles so I think he would have nailed it. Joey Batey is a bit too young in my opinion. Dandelion is supposed to be 40, look 30 and act 20 according to the books
No one in this film example of good casting. No one
I love that he's probably at one of his lowest emotional points but still big enough to have a standing engagement and a back up band.
He's still a consummate professional as a bard. Can be annoying as all hell if you're just hanging around with him, sure, but the man has skill and charisma in abundance.
You insinuate that Jaskier would preform bellow his own standards? The sacralage!!! That is Viscout Julian... whatever-is-the-rest-of-his-name-is you're talking about

When he transitions from "nothing will ring quite as true" into "buuuuuuurrrrn" is a religious experience
I’ve rewatched it so many times 😭 this scene is so well done
I have never agreed with a comment more in my life
It's better in this version than the full soundtrack version but it's the best part of the song in either version. It's just so good
Where is the lyric "Nothing will ring quite as true"? I rewatched it a bunch and couldnt find it?
@@GraphicGaming It's around 0:55 I think the exact lyrics are "No word that I've written will ring quite as true"
the way this performance was live and not prerecorded. we don't deserve joey
Is he a singer day to day? He has chops, and can apparently play a Lute. Curious to know.
From a musical standpoint, its doubly impressive. This song would be challenging even prerecorded, without audio-correcting. He's full-out belting right on his bridge (that point where your singing voice naturally wants to switch into a different register), and he sounds pretty powerful without straining. We truly don't deserve this man.
it was not live..
@@GeejMusic he was singing live during the shot. if you listen the studio version and this version is very different in terms of his singing. and google is free :) "Batey performed the song live "take after take" for "a whole day", he shared."
@@selbefr I rather think the scene was dubbed by him (as many scenes in many tv shows and movies). So I don't think that what we hear is the same recorded voice when he was acting that scene. But even then, the dubbed singing sounds so good and raw and powerful :3
Of course Jaskier would make a freaking Break Up Song😂😂😂
Shhh we don't talk about that Bruno
That song could be about anyone. Anyone, really.

I haven't seen the show but I really like the way Jaskier just slumps down during the song as his rage dies away. The way the "burn burn burn" goes from almost a shout to a whimper, the pain in his eyes. It's a powerful moment and gets something right, hate or rage only carry you so far especially when it's directed at someone you once cared about. Points to the actor for this scene because he is selling the pain and rage perfectly.
Absolutely agreed. He is enjoying it in the beginning and even the crowd joins him on some parts but by the end he is overcome and is like "yeah, I still hurt badly." He really is the perfect cast for this role.
you really should listen to the actor's band, The Amazing Devil. they have so many amazing songs.
@@felicitysmoakandwillgraham6453 oh I have 😎
It's great to read that this stuff still comes across when you have no context, it shows just how well the actor and director were doing for this sequence.
especially since Jaskier still thinks of Geralt as his best friend and can't hate him.
Joey Batey's Jaskier is perfect in my opinion. Him and Henry carry this show so hard.
And both of them know the lore from the witcher, which makes the characters much more organic!! Such perfect casting
Henry Cavill and Joey Batey are just perfect as Geralt of Rivia and Dandelion(Jaskier).

I loved toss a coin when I first started the show, then I forgot about it and MAN that was not good because this comment is very true
No
Listening to the song itself is great but there's just something about watching him sing it that throws it into an entirely different dimension of absolute amazing.
Have u listened to joey batey's band, The Amazing Devil? They are incredible and their live performances are fantastic!
I have not but thank you for the suggestion ❤
The little smile on yennefers face when she realises who it is
I love that you can tell it's live with his breath and the emotions he poors into his performance.
the visual contrast that brings is not lost on me - It's clearly very cold in that tavern and as you can see his breath, he is singing BURN...but also connects to the coldness in his heart with the loss of his friendship. I like those little details whether they were intentional or not...
Not just that. When he's back to the camera and turns front in there's a difference in sound quality in 'no word that I've written ' vs - turn jump on stage and now muffled 'ring quite as true' then clear on the turn for 'Burn' there is a slightly muffled quality to phrase that clears on the turn and 'Burn'. That's only from a live performance. Or performances. I sounds, maybe, that there is potentially two audios used here given the changed in the sound quality, but I don't think so. Joey has said that this was actually filmed outside, and if I had to guess, above the stage was open, no ceiling. but there was some rudimentary ceiling above the non stage area - which would bounce sound, where as on stage facing the back it won't. - and the main mikes are up and to the right of the video would account for the sound diff.
@@celticbabs3105 According to the actor, it was cold in the tavern because they were filming outside lol
That long"Burn" at 1:05 is such a perfect note, perfect inflexion in the voice
Have u listened to joey batey's band, The Amazing Devil? They are magnificent!
I also love how he finishes the word Burn at that point. I find it astonishing after the amazing long note. Perfection!
I’m such a big fan of his costume redesign from last season. So much more like the game
Funny thing is, the long jacket was his request, including the necklace he wears, which is one of his own necklaces that he asked the designer if it could be included in Jaskier’s new atire.
He talked about in one of his interviews.

I hope we get more yen and jaskier being frenemies with each other in s3. Teasing each other relentlessly but giving a little smirk to each other in understanding 😭 and more jaskier Geralt!!!!! There was hardly any this season I can’t believe they made us wait that long for jaskier and Geralt to reunite.
Tbf, the last time they were together, Geralt basically told Jaskier to F*ck off.
Still one of my favorite lines of his is "The last time I woke up next to you, you grabbed me by the balls and then blew up the building so.... oh for FUCKS sake"
Honestly is season 2 they're more friends with Yennefer than Geralt. They pretend to hate each other, but they completely enjoy each other company.
His voice is enough making his character the best.
have u listened to the actor's band, The Amazing Devil? they have incredible songs!
This was probably the happiest moment of season 2. I almost shed a tear of joy when I heard Jaskier's voice.
The fact that you can see his breath cause they filmed it outside in cold weather makes this scene even more amazing.
I can't get over how good this song was and the season as a whole.
Wish I didn't watch it so fast now😭
Jus watch it again but start from Season 1 to relive the beauty of the striga fight
If you start from the striga fight then you’ll miss the breathtaking sword fight of “BUTCHER” of Blavikan and also renfri 💔

@@j.p7311 That really was an amazing fight. This show does the monster battles so well. Freaking loved it when Geralt comes flying out of nowhere to take down the Chernobog.
The season is shit, but at least the song is good
The simple fact that at the end during the burn, burn, burn, burn part his emotions turn from anger to sadness is amazing. Even when he gets an ovation from the crowd he looks pained to hear it between his forced amiles, as if nothing can quell his sadness..
Taylor Swift: I wrote dozens of break up songs
Jaskier: I wrote THE break up song.
0:40, the moment he steps onto the table and the backing vocals slowly creep in for a brief moment as if the whole room has joined in, is just spine tingling!
you can really feel Jaskier's emotion while singing the song. bruh Geralt really did broke him
Geralt? Pff that song could be about anyone. Anyone!
That song not about him acording to jasper lol
@@billybob9269 didn't he say it was about him tho
@@ayshaAFG I think they were quoting the show lol 😂
He was ridiculously well casted
it's unhealthy how many times i've rewatched this
What I like about Jaskier is the fact that he does not fear big guys like Geralt or Yennefer, he instead embraces them for who they are which is why they both like him, but I just wish he did more in the series than being there asked for help that is not needed in the end, because he fucks up and Geralt and Yennefer have to manage on their own anyway. Yen when she asked him for help and Geralt when he saved him from prison.. if they didn't do either, nothing would change in the story, which is kinda redundant for his character. I know that he is mostly like that, but boi Jaskier just deserves better character arc where they could actually rely on him for once.

His performance is incredible. Joey was born to play Jaskier as Henry was born to play Geralt.

Oh, I want to see Geralt's face when he hears this...
Geralt is his number one muse, but was a complete dick to him at the end of season 1. He didn't deserve that. :(
In Jaskier's words "He grunts. I sing"
Batey just nails the character so well, and his talent really shines through when he’s on screen.
0:19 we all had the same reaction that Yennefer in that scene right?
As much as I think Joey Batey nails the character, I wish the writing would do him better justice, and have him being less useless, or have more personal character's arc. Geralt told him he needed his help but in the end, Jaskier had little purpose (granted, the season packed too much lore/plot to the detriment of characters interactions). I wish he'll be more than just comic relief with one-liners in S3, because it is a waste of a charismatic actor otherwise.
he needs him because he can trust him with Ciri. He wasn't much use in the books either except for occasionally seducing someone, and that usually backfired. So I think this season was very authentic.
@@RyanGuthrie0 that's true. But , past their reunion, i felt like once Jaskier was back at being Geralt's sidekick, he was left on the sideline, while he was much more developped during his time with Yen.
We’ll see more of Jaskiers arc in season 3 I’m certain , especially after Djikstra mentions him at the end of the season.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they do in season 3 as at this point it’s not even based on the books so they’ll end up making up stuff
While i do agree he did have a subtle but important role in Season 1.
Geralt isn't treated nearly as badly as he originally was after he started making songs. But yeah i would definitely like him to have a bigger role on-screen
you don't know how much I love this man, I squeaked when I recognised his voice - I am not proud of this
There's nothing to be ashamed of in that, mate. We're in the same boat.
I love how we all had the same reaction as Yennefer when we realized who the Sandpiper was. I was so happy.
This might be one of Jaskiers best songs. Because the emotion in it is true.
I think I remember reading that Joey actually helped write/compose the songs he sung for this season which is an even better touch that I appreciate given his talent with The Amazing Devil
Something I really like about this scene, is that as far as I can tell Joey Batey is actually performing this live. It doesn't seem like he pre-recorded it, even though there is a pre-recorded version for the soundtrack. Dude has some talent
In most films and TV series, the voice acting is recorded over the footage. This scene is no exception, but Joey Batey is still very talented
@@kelaris3692 Nah, this was recorded live. Just listen to the acoustics when he’s singing, it’s not clean like it would be if it was a pre-recording, you can hear this voice bouncing around the set, there’s muffling when he turns away from where the microphones would be, and then there’s the obvious big thing, Joey himself said that this was done live.
@@decimation9780 I don’t believe. He makes too clean sounds for the scene where he moves so actively. Of course they inserted not the cleanest studio version, because the sound engineers had to keep the overall entourage
@@kelaris3692 The audio isn’t just not clean, it’s not from a studio recording booth. You could remove every bit of soundproofing from that room and the acoustics still wouldn’t produce the same sound heard in this scene. This kind of audio is the result of a song being sung in a large wooden tavern set, built outside probably near a wooded area. Joey's voice is bouncing around the set itself, when he turns away from the microphones set up just outside of where the cameras pan over, his voice and his instrument are muffled, you can hear him moving around the set, which wouldn’t be part of prerecorded audio, and Joey himself said that this was done live, and the producers used the live audio for this scene.
@@decimation9780 I do not rule out that you are right. But I can't believe that even compared to other languages, the original sounds better, even though Joey had to jump around the stage, play the lute and hit high notes at the same time
That “watch that butcher burn” gives me chills every time, I love this.
1:07 get yourself a guy that looks at you like the guy on the left down corner looks at jaskier ;)

The best break-up song of this century. Or that century, rather.
The way you can see his face change from playing it up for the audience to being genuinely hurt
How hard he tried to pick him self up and show the award winning smile but just couldn’t speaks to me. He can lie all he wants and say he’s moved on and everything but he can’t lie to himself how much pain he is in. It’s truly the emotions of losing a friend.
How many times have you watched this? Me:yes!
It's cool that you can see Rience in the audience at the end.
Nice catch! Never noticed that until you pointed out out
This scene captures Jaskier as a person. Charming, artistically gifted and heavily emotional. But also, ultimately, a good soul. Being the Sandpiper, he's helping people escape awful situations. He's just a generally decent fellow (beyond the litany of lustful misunderstandings XD).
Now we can all hurt with Jasiker 😭💔 Henry will forever be our Geralt. I refuse to watch without him. This was my favorite show and now it's going to burn 😭
His expression at the end is the definition of bittersweet.
Fuck me. The use of lighting for his breath as he exhales the words at the top of his lungs is phenomenal. Cherry on top
What's interesting about this is if you watch the interview with Joey he talks about doing take after take (and singing all this live), but that despite how it looks this tavern set is actually outside and it's really cold (and how hard it was for everyone to keep going take after take in the cold and wasn't sure if he could keep singing in that much cold, but did). He points out that you can see the warm breath in the cold air because of that. So that was just due to it being so cold outside. Originally I thought it was some cool effect, but it works perfectly and that sort of discomfort in the cold might've helped elevate his performance and it's severity here too.
Yo Jaskier sang this shit out of this you felt every bit of it. When I binged watched season 2 I literally listened to this a couple of times lol
I cant stop watching this. Get 'im, T-Swift of the Witcherverse! 🔥🤣
