Arctic Monekys "Do I Wanna Know": taking another sip of your drink as you stare at someone you've been flirting with at a bar all night Hozier "Do I Wanna Know": sitting on the couch with that close friend you've had a crush on forever, having a deep conversation, and making momentary eye contact when a pause in the conversation lasts just a bit too long
the original feels like when you’re asking someone out for the first time and you’re terrified of what they’re going to say. this version feels like when that romance has ended and you’re wondering if they still think about you the way you do about them. because to you they’ll always be comfort.

I genuinely feel Hozier has the best male voice in the business at the moment. It's so powerful, full of range, its soulful, sincere, full of a rhythm, a flow, its hard hitting, beautiful and he gives it his all everytime even when it looks like he is not trying.
I wholeheartedly agree with you, but if you were looking for an additional voice to melt over, I literally just started listening to them and I guess I'm just a little excited to share/can't believe I didn't listen sooner, but Conor Mason with the band Nothing But Thieves seems just incredible. Well in a different style I can recommend you Tamino. He has this unique voice and style. His vocal range is very large (I'm not sure if it's the right word but hope u get it) and his music is ethnic Egyptian sounds mixed with beautiful English lyric.
The original (which I absolutely love and keep going back to) sounds like being scared of rejection. night out drinking and meaningless sex with random strangers. This sounds like drinking on your sofa alone while looking at their pictures, depressing basically.
The first version (which I’ve loved for so long now) is like falling in love. Hozier’s version is like falling OUT of love, but desperately wanting to keep holding on, missing that spark that used to be there.

but the song was originally made to sound desparate and intense which I personally prefer, hozier songs are more of the sad kind and it's good for him I guess.

The same song, the same lyrics but completely different perspectives on dealing with unrequited love. The original feels more like the singer can't even admit to himself the level of rejection and loss he's enduring. All you commenting about the beautiful capella throughout this should probably know that the backup singers have their own band called Wyvern Lingo. They make some super gorgeous music similar to this, go check them out!
One of the back vocals, the one with the most prominent voice at the end, she could take my life and i would thank her. She is Killing It with her voice and of course, as a gay i am obligated to pay my respects the forest witch father Hozier for his existance.
@Joshua A. Wegmann Of course i have a huge urge to announce i am gay wherever i go. I can't go tell my parents i am gay even though i am 22 and mostly independent, without fearing my father murdering me. I can't tell some of my friends because where i live, most of them are homophobic. I fucking apologize that i see this shitty youtube account as a safe space away from my real life people and happily try to be myself and it inconviniences you. And yeah, start announcing you are straight everywhere, literally NOBODY is stopping you. At worst some of my rightfully jealous gays will mock you for it. It's not like your life literally depends on staying silent about liking whoever the fuck you like. Go hate your wife or something.
Joshua A. Wegmann run with it dude! Go one step further and respect gay people like they do to you! Maybe after that you’ll see how much of a douche you were being to people who just want acceptance without a huge fight over it. We only say it as much as we do to see how many people are like us or are allies, or to pay respects and compliment. You should definitely do more of that, and maybe you’ll find the people you talk so harshly to are human too.
Joshua A. Wegmann this is literally the dumbest thing i’ve read in a while. you’re reeking of privilege and it shows. you don’t have to fear for your life because of your sexuality but some of us live with that fear EVERY single day. imagine getting so bothered by a harmless comment on youtube. homophobic much 🤢
AM version: broken up with, bitter and ready for some shit talking and rebound at the bar Hozier: A slowburn with someone who you dated and broke up with but are still friends and you're caught in an endless dance around one another wondering if they still love you
They completely changed the overall tone of the song and have now turned it into this hauntingly beautiful rendition. It's so completely different than the original, like a work all it's own, and it's absolutely fantastic.
redder_dominator there actually is a slower ballad-esque cover of mr. brightside done by run river north, you might want to give it a listen it’s quite good imo
Amazing how he managed to make this a completely different song. Hozier doesn’t get enough praise for being, in my honest opinion, one of the greatest voices of our time. What a talent.
this is friends to lovers core , the yearning, the fear of losing something you already have but you're falling deeper and you don't know if the other person feels the same way but you wanna hold on to the hope that maybe they do..
fun fact: if one of the backup singers sounds familiar it’s because they’re karen cowley! they had a duet song with hozier on his debut album called “in a week”!
Female vocalists can elevate a song so much. Whenever daddy Clapton performs the song Layla he almost always has female backup vocalists and it makes the song just that much better.
The gradual fade at the end from Hozier's voice over to the female voice.. Beautiful and subtle way to symbolize your ex mirroring your thoughts and feelings back. I've atleast experienced this. That I reflect on something from the past, just to get in touch with my ex and getting to hear that she's been reflecting on exactly the same thing basically at the same moment as me. Powerful version.

I love how this has 300 likes and no comments. Everyone who saw it was just like “damn you right”
Could be a reprise in a musical.
Jacob Armstrong honestly I forgot I commented this
Can we please talk about the a capella ending, cause it's beautiful
yes
Serena T It is wonderful! I love the two voices singing a different part of the lyrics. Great arrangement, in every detail :)
I'm died
I don't wanna be the guy to ruin 666 likes.
Serena T I literally spent days teaching myself the harmonies because i was obsessed
7 years later and this cover is still so beautiful
the way lyrics just gained that depth and and whole new meaning
All you commenting about the beautiful capella throughout this should probably know that the backup singers have their own band called Wyvern Lingo. They make some super gorgeous music similar to this, go check them out!
Thank you!!!
Yessss, I love "When I can (rubbish)" they are great
Plus, hozier did a duet with one of the girls called 'in a week'
thanks, man!
Lady, you are my hero. Thanks!!
One of the back vocals, the one with the most prominent voice at the end, she could take my life and i would thank her. She is Killing It with her voice and of course, as a gay i am obligated to pay my respects the forest witch father Hozier for his existance.
Pınar TAŞ same 😭😭😭
ikr like step on me pretty voiced lady
Joshua A. Wegmann this is literally the dumbest thing i’ve read in a while. you’re reeking of privilege and it shows. you don’t have to fear for your life because of your sexuality but some of us live with that fear EVERY single day. imagine getting so bothered by a harmless comment on youtube. homophobic much 🤢
Every few months I remember this exist and listen to it approximately 350 times on loop
I'm back again
I don’t know if I want to cry, scream, sleep, or run in a field of flowers listening to this but I just know I love it.
The background singers are so good
two of the girls from Wyvern Lingo, check them out!
I LOVE WYVERN LINGO
All The musicians he has with him are amazing
yea - they can still stand!!........always a surprise when Hozy Dozy is singing........
Ik right, they were one of the reasons this was so good
Hozier is the personification and sound of heartache
And Jeff Buckley
@@yasmineazaiez2737 Haha the World will know soon enuff who is who😉in ALL cases of this actorbased "reality"😂
you're forgetting about Tamino. "Habibi", "Persephone" and "Indigo Night" cut right trough your soul... in a good way.
the way their voices go together at 1:51 is so beautiful
so real
also 4:00 :)
AM version: broken up with, bitter and ready for some shit talking and rebound at the bar
Hozier: A slowburn with someone who you dated and broke up with but are still friends and you're caught in an endless dance around one another wondering if they still love you
Imagine Hozier cover Slow dancing in the dark by joji
Oh, my god. That their my friend would be heaven.
Didn't know I needed this
We can't have that, it would be to powerful.
That’s a shout 🔥
i would die
They completely changed the overall tone of the song and have now turned it into this hauntingly beautiful rendition. It's so completely different than the original, like a work all it's own, and it's absolutely fantastic.
But it kinda ruins what the original is about, its like making Mr. Brightside a slow ballad
redder_dominator there actually is a slower ballad-esque cover of mr. brightside done by run river north, you might want to give it a listen it’s quite good imo
@@Sophie_Pea fine then, uts like making i wanna be your man a slow sad song
listening to hozier sing ANYTHING will make you truly feel your feelings
Amazing how he managed to make this a completely different song. Hozier doesn’t get enough praise for being, in my honest opinion, one of the greatest voices of our time. What a talent.
Exactly, if he would've sold out he could've been THE voice of our generation
Doing ok at the moment all the same, bout to have one of the biggest songs of the year@@tmerk4292
i think ive heard Alex say he's never heard any cover of his songs, i hope someone worked on that and made it happen cause this is pure bliss
He once Said that mileys cover of why you only Call me When Youre High is best version ever ☺️
AnnaOlesen It was actually Matt who said that
Artic Monkeys- Madness
Dua- Sober
Hozier- Agony
2019
Genius
Nobody sings this song like Alex turner! Love the Artic Monkeys!
this cover has me in shambles and i am never not thinking about it.. it’s been YEARS
this is friends to lovers core , the yearning, the fear of losing something you already have but you're falling deeper and you don't know if the other person feels the same way but you wanna hold on to the hope that maybe they do..
Bro!!! The chick is playing cello and background singing like WHAT?!?!?!?!?!
The art of Chris Bryant Alanna Henderson. She's awesome
That guy playing the guitar and singing lead though
Multitasking -- 100
BBC must be understaffed
@@HotFish i didn't know this was the group she came from! Thank you.
I never thought I could be relaxed into sadness but here we are
Madison Moss this
Hozier is king of this. Cherry Wine’s lyrics are so chilling yet the song is so lovely you feel so peaceful listening to it
I like you.
fun fact: if one of the backup singers sounds familiar it’s because they’re karen cowley! they had a duet song with hozier on his debut album called “in a week”!
Fucking incredible duet too
My gosh... I didn’t even recognize this as the same song. He OWNED this! I’m in love.
The tone is so much sadder in this version. Love it because the lyrics seem to have more meaning this way.
They do and this is perfect dont get me wrong but the passion in the original song. THAT ANGRY LOVE thats whats real
1:33 never thought I’d see the day Hozier CHOSE to NOT say “baby” in a song
Kate Jeffries that’s just how the original song goes
Phantom1pr no the original lyric is “baby we both know”
Kate Jeffries Oh damn i just checked you’re right my bad
Phantom1pr no problem lol
I’m so used to this cover. I forgot the original was “baby.”
THIS is the tune I found that makes me think of them somehow and I play on repeat
when the harmonies are so good you cant tell their voices apart 😩
This song makes me want to cry it's so pretty and it makes me feel so perfectly and exquisitely lonely.
Morrisey,is that you?😂
I came here for a cool guitar and I left soaked in tears 😭
Mr.crackagaming108 im there for u m8 i feel the same
Haha
I come back to this over and over. ..how is he possible??
The look on his face at 2:27 as hes just playing and listening to the backup singers... always makes my heart tingle
My word the female vocalists had such gorgeous voices! Especially on those last few lines 😍
Exactly
I cant get over it
And one voice sounds sooo familiar
@@belanna0dd i think you’re hearing karen cowley! they had a duet with hozier on his first album!
Female vocalists can elevate a song so much. Whenever daddy Clapton performs the song Layla he almost always has female backup vocalists and it makes the song just that much better.
I need this to be released on Spotify, immediately
You can find it on Spotify, just look up Hozier Do I Wanna Know and it should come up~
@@hhughes9465 It's not there
Alli / denise it’s there
H H I don’t see it! :(
@@xVioletx11 that's so weird!! I was about to get the link for you but I can't find it on Spotify anymore either
I didn’t think I liked this cover at first because it changes the whole meaning of the song for me but now I can’t stop thinking about it.
The fact that hozier took a song that originally sounded so sensual and made it sound so calm and peaceful- I’m in love
I was just innocently eating my spaghetti, but now that I’ve seen this, my life will never be the same
honestly same i was literally watching twilight for some laughs and now i’m watching this questioning every relationship i’ve never had
I’m 3 years late and I never knew how much I needed this in my life
I'm in the same boat man
I’m ngl this version makes me appreciate Alex’s insanely good lyricism even more than the original. He and Hozier are the best in that area.
I NEED MORE SONGS WITH THIS VIBE.
Just listen to all of Hozier’s original music
this is one of the best covers I've ever heard. The emotion just pours through. Im not sure how someone couldn't like this.
All of his covers / songs are so emotional
hozier proves he is the softest angel by doing this in MAJOR KEY
The gradual fade at the end from Hozier's voice over to the female voice.. Beautiful and subtle way to symbolize your ex mirroring your thoughts and feelings back. I've atleast experienced this. That I reflect on something from the past, just to get in touch with my ex and getting to hear that she's been reflecting on exactly the same thing basically at the same moment as me. Powerful version.
the cello *transforms* this cover istg... it makes it come alive.
i'm happily married but suddenly feel broken hearted because of this cover.
This makes me feel like calling an ex that's never existed
Lol
4 AM chats under the stars kind of music fam!!!
yesss🙌
yesss
rachaelray the original is to hardcore and fast, makes you focus more on that then the actual meaning.
This cover lives in my head rent-free 😭 I love him!
IT'S BACK ON SPOTIFY!!!! My life is complete.
is it really??
The song lyrics make so much more sense after listening to this cover idk why
This cover is the reason I get up in the morning.
Mac Braun Wow! Maybe me too, these days
Did you set it as alarm tone?
Hearing this song, sung by Hozier, hits different in your thrities.
I'm convinced that Hozier and his backup singers and musicians are all angels
the acapella part at the end almost killed me
I am so tired of falling in and out of love that this may be it , this may be the song I sing for the rest of my days till I die in some swamp
Now THATS the hozier spirit
this is literally me
Lies beside you, in the swamp, to share the same fate.
For me that song will always be skinny love
@@Ferinthalas *In a Week plays*
this will always make me cry. not because i think of someone or the lyrics,, but because it’s just so good. it’s so overwhelmingly good that it makes me cry.
this
Hozier making us feel things that we tried so hard to conceal. Damn.
