Absolute masterpiece. The casual start from his seat. Those subtle, thoroughly enjoyable moments with Margot, his sister, Mark Ronson and finally Emma at end. What a performance. There is nothing Ryan Gosling can't do.
He has all the same training and background as Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera & J.C. Chasez. They were all castmates on the early 90s version of the Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney channel.
The four actors who portrayed the Ken entourage to Gosling’s Ken were there: Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adair and Scott Evans (brother of Chris Evans). Evans is the Ken who twirls and kisses Ryan’s cheek.
Ive come back to watch this so many times. And I just have a goofy grin the whole time. Love this performance so much, Ryan Gosling just oozes confidence.
Gosling is actually one hilariously funny individual. He kills it every time he’s on SNL. You gotta check out the interview he did on Jimmy Kimmel to promote the Fall Guy - he talks about his experience acting in his first movie as a kid. That story is sooo funny. 😂
“I'm just Ken (and I’m enough) and I’m great at doing stuff” is the BEST LINE! Gosling is the only one who could've pulled this off! His commitment to character, his voice, the timing of running up to America, Greta, Margo and Emma. And seeing Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen on stage (I didn't even know they were part of the original soundtrack until I saw the BTS). Mark Ronson is a master. Makes me smile everytime. KEN IS A 10
Wow. I thought the other guitarist looked familiar. I miss Eddie Van Halen. So, that's pretty cool how his son joined Slash onstage to help make this an awesome performance. Better than the movie version, really.
@@daveg9000Fairly certain this particular comment is referencing more obvious mainstream media culture. Of course there are men dancing all over the place - and have been since forever. HOWEVER, there is a whole faction of his acting this isn't/ can't be/ shouldn't be true. Let's not play pretend here.
I play this song whenever I feel like I'm having a panic attack. The negative self-talk turns positive. People belittle things that are popular but that doesn't mean they aren't as important. Forget the sound of waves, the sound of Ryan Gosling smiling while singing is helps me sleep.
True. It shows he knows what he's doing on stage. But it's possible that the quick readjustment of the mic stand may have been a deliberate part of the choreography. It’s a power move as if to say “I’m in command here.”
❤I hope someday his little girls realize that their daddy brought the whole world together for 4 amazing minutes with this incredibly delightful performance. he is surely one of a kind. ❤
I’ve gotta admit that I was one of the doubters. I’d only ever seen him in super serious roles and didn’t realise what an absolute legend of comedy the man could be. I’m so bloody delighted he proved me SO wrong! In Ken We Trust 🫡
Ryan is such a pro that he did all this in Marilyn Monroe pink, confidently leading this show with very few rehearsals, making sure the other Kens aka Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa were included and even managed to hint the right direction to Slash at the end, for him to look at the right camera, while superbly hitting a crazy note at the top of his lungs. What a man. What a freaking man. Take notes, gentlemen. We want Gosling or nothing.
Exactly! Totally caught Gosling pinching Slash’s sleeve to guide him into the central shot in the middle of the big finale. So many amazing moments! It also blew my mind how long RG sustained that big note-and I think Mark Ronson felt the same when he gave Gosling a surprised glance at the end. 😂❤
Let's not get carried away. That's a lot of pressure. 😂😂 There was an episode of 2 1/2 men where Alan was questioning his sexuality. He was asked "Well, have you ever been attracted to a man?" He answers "George Clooney". Audience laughs and the reply is "Clooney doesn't count". After this, Ryan Gosling doesn't count. A man's man and a ladies' man with no insecurity about his sexuality or anything else.
In the past, pink used to be a symbol of masculinity and blue for women, but it changed when there were many images of women with pink and now pink is for women today.
The part where he says put that manly hand in mine and gives his hand to the camera it feels like we are the ones putting out hands on his, my goattttt
Billie and Margot trying to hold it together when Ryan started the song is so great. And Ryan cracking himself up at 0:44...and throughout the song. And Greta singing with him, gosh this whole performance was iconic.
What I especially love is the pure joy radiating from the room seeing this performance, Ryan Gosling is really THE movie star of this generation, and every actor in the room just having fun, there’s no pomp and pretension here, just pure fun and laughter. Even the most reserved actors you see grinning and laughing, and its so funny seeing the shocked and flabbergasted faces of his Barbie co-stars. Completely genuine reactions there. Seeing these super classy actors like Gladstone, Giamatti, Murphy, K. Brown in the background just giggling is really fun.
@GuineaPigEverydayv Even I would pretend to smile and enjoy this dribble if I was planted in the front row of a ceremony that was being viewed by millions. Get real.
I even disliked the movie and when I had to buy a pink umbrella as it was the only colour left shouted it's not as I like Barbie to the cashier but after this oscar performance I am a fan of Barbie 🎉😂
I did not expect Ryan to have an amazing stage voice. So effortless! Sounds just like he does on record Love the fact they included the rest of the Ken's from the movieeee
Fun Fact : Mandy Moore (the brilliant choreographer of La La Land and Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour) is the choreographer of this performance. In the first 30 seconds, Greta Gerwig’s face clearly shows her apprehensiveness and Margot Robbie is holding Greta’s hand. They’re obviously anxious over whether Ryan will be able to get through this thing without it bombing. And then he nails it better than they ever could've imagined!

One of the best live Oscar performances ever. Ryan Gosling is amazing - he really carried this. He was in complete control
What is going on?
Ryan Gosling is arguably one of the most versatile Hollywood Actors...unexpectedly and beyond my wildest imagination that I would really enjoy the movie...❤
Ryan Gosling may not be the Best Supporting Actor winner but he won everyone's heart in that room and around the world for pulling off a miracle with that "I'm Just Ken" performance, easily one of the greatest performances in Oscar history! So happy to see Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen performing with him and Mark Ronson, what a remarkable collaboration 🙌
I think Ryan Gosling should host the Oscars.
@@sharonjensen3016 not that much...
@@sharonjensen3016 Disagree. It would be like having deNiro host. Gosling is a dear and is my countryman (Canadian) but he is far too dry for the the task. Watch him on The Graham Norton Show and you will see what I mean.
Our 🇨🇦 sense of humour doesn't easily translate in some forums. That's why he just loses it on Graham Norton...they get us ! Lol
And he is totally real. If he finds something funny he laughs his ar*e off 👍 I'm picturing Greg Davies describing his ' fecal Jackson Pollock ' !!😂😂
@@klmw6972I'm from America and adore Ryan and his sense of humor!😂🥰 I think he would make a wonderful Oscar host, but I guess I have to concede that his humor might not "translate" to everyone.😩💔❤️

Absolute masterpiece.
The casual start from his seat. Those subtle, thoroughly enjoyable moments with Margot, his sister, Mark Ronson and finally Emma at end. What a performance. There is nothing Ryan Gosling can't do.

The fact that the man that directed Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan is grinning his ass off at this should make Ryan proud
You should see a video of Scorsese laughing at the performance, even the guy who made Goodfellas and Taxi Driver loves it lol

I hope Spielberg keeps going. The World is going to feel much darker when he passes.
I love that Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa joined him on stage to dance.
I’m pretty sure Kingsley Ben-Adir was up there too! (Currently starring as Bob Marley in his biopic - the man’s got range lol.)
Scott Evans was there too !!

Not serious but SERIOUSLY DELIVERED ❤
Gosling is actually one hilariously funny individual. He kills it every time he’s on SNL. You gotta check out the interview he did on Jimmy Kimmel to promote the Fall Guy - he talks about his experience acting in his first movie as a kid. That story is sooo funny. 😂
he did use to be a singer to be fair!
What does GOAT mean?
This moment will be forever remembered and embraced .... Ryan Gosling is so charismatic, he will be immortal
Very well said!
The fact they had Slash get involved in this makes the song even cooler than it already was. Ryan Gosling seems like such a down to earth dude.
He was involved in the original, too, I think. They is a "behind the scenes" version of the song, where he and Van Halen are in it, too.
And Wolfgang Van Halen, and Mark Ronson 💞
I love that he kissed and waved his necklace with his wife’s initials on at the end. He’s def not afraid to show his feelings ❤
KEN IS A 10
Correction, He's Kenough
Wow. I thought the other guitarist looked familiar. I miss Eddie Van Halen. So, that's pretty cool how his son joined Slash onstage to help make this an awesome performance. Better than the movie version, really.
I come back to watch this periodically because of the pure and simple joy it brings ❤️
Honestly seeing all these men dancing onstage and having the time of their lives is very wholesome. We need more happy, dancing men in the world.
War dances are also a thing....
You can see it any night on Broadway chief.
@@daveg9000Fairly certain this particular comment is referencing more obvious mainstream media culture.
Of course there are men dancing all over the place - and have been since forever.

True. It shows he knows what he's doing on stage.

There was an episode of 2 1/2 men where Alan was questioning his sexuality. He was asked "Well, have you ever been attracted to a man?" He answers "George Clooney". Audience laughs and the reply is "Clooney doesn't count".
After this, Ryan Gosling doesn't count. A man's man and a ladies' man with no insecurity about his sexuality or anything else.
He’s a chiiled pro. Calm, cool and collected.
Seeing Wolfie in this is amazing. Such a phenomenal talent in so many aspects and such a super nice guy to work with.
