Gauntlet IV also showcased some of the best music and best sounding music on the Genesis. There's tons of a amazing music for this console that too many people whose biases refuse to let them recognize.
In my opinion, it is too short, but otherwise it would be perfect. Divine Bloodlines from Rondo of Blood is better in my opinion. I still think this is one of the best soundtracks in the series, but I am not knowledgeable enough to say it is the best of them all.
This soundtrack is absolutely fantastic. Without a doubt, one of the best soundtracks in this series. Not only does it pay homage to some of the older gems of this series (Vampire Killer, Bloody Tears, Simon's Theme, and Beginning), but it has a lot of great original songs of its own. Perfect for the season of Halloween too. And that's saying a lot considering Bloodlines was the first and only game in the series that was made for the Sega Genesis.
It's one of the better examples of good FM synthesis along with stage 4, 5, and 6 as well. I'd highly recommend checking out the OST for Gauntlet IV on the Genesis as well it's every bit as much of a masterpiece. I wish it had more midi tracks that people have recomposed from it because they are fantastic tracks.
Late to the party, but in the game itself there are a few empty rooms in a row to go through to enjoy the music. There are no enemies to fight from when it starts playing to when it ends. Definitely my favourite song in the game, would just listen to it on the soundtest forever and wait for it to loop on the actual stage when I got there.

I do cleary admit that i have more connection with the SCV4 soundtrack but Bloodlines is absolutely stunning and a gem on it's own. What you hear is the genesis soundchip to it's fullest. The growling basslines and mesmerizing FM goodness. There is no other castlevania game on the platform. True masterpiece.
I'd put this as the best Castlevania OST followed probably by Rondo of Blood then Symphony of the Night. The use of the sound chip in this is masterful.
The beautiful thing about 16-bit music is how it can be as dynamic and as colorful as a realistic performance without getting in the way of your gaming experience. Most modern games soundtraxks have a tendency to make everything sound big and then compressed it to hell and the overly compressed quality of what is supposed to be a realistic sound never fail to distract me and makes my head dizzy. So much so I usually turn the music off when playing modern games.
9:23 The Bloodlines theme! Michiru Yamane reused this piece in Portrait of Ruin and it's 5000x more epic. Kinda irritated that Konami tossed out Igarashi and Co. with the trash. "Metroidvania" was becoming something I looked forward to.
Jesus Christ. Thank you sir for putting up such a high quality recording of this amazing sound the Genesis is capable of. This soundtrack is simply brilliant. i dont think so..Blooodlines has way better atmosphere..the sunset in Greece..the Pisa platforming section..The confusion in Proserpina..and the music kills Super Castlevania 4 bar none!!!!
shadowshinobi06 To me, SCIV's soundtrack is mostly generic, bland, and forgettable, aside from the epicness that is Simon's theme and the Bloody Tears remix. Bloodlines, on the other hand, has a mostly upbeat and rocking soundtrack. Reincarnated Soul, Iron Blue Intention, Sinking Old Sanctuary, Calling from Heaven, these are just some of the awesome tracks in the game. But if you prefer SCIV over this game, that's fine by me.
shadowshinobi06 Just heard Forest of Monsters, and it's an alright track. Guess I must've put it along the rest of the soundtrack. I still prefer Bloodlines'soundtrack, though.
+shadowshinobi I dunno, CV4's graphics and music feel too dark and gritty to me. While the music did fit the game better it doesn't stand as well on its own. The graphics here are a lot crisper and cleaner. The rotating room and the spinning room also feel really tech-demo-y and aren't really any scarier than the Pisa platforming section. And sure, the whip was stronger but you could only swing it off specific hooks and it made the subweapons not worth it.
9:23 the best music. The hardest level. The collection on the Switch is the best money I’ve ever spent. Can’t believe I missed this gem of a game growing up.
Konami may not have assigned their best programmers for games on the Genesis, but Michiru Yamane made a very special soundtrack that showed that the Genesis sound chip could make great music.
This game is so badass that even the 'game over' track sounds rewarding! The tunes not only perfectly set the mood for each stage as they inspire the player to go on, making the closing credits tune the true achievement of the game. Afterall, we all know Dracula will just arise once again, over and over...

The continued use of synth tones didn't move Castlevania soundtracks forward much technologically. But, compositionally, this is more fitting and more interesting to me than the "bells and whistles"-like soundtracks of SotN and SCIV due their bizarre use of jazz stylings and even singing.
The use of jazz stylings and singing doesn't make those soundtracks any less fitting or interesting. Quite the contrary. And the synth tones in this one couldn't be helped, as the Sega Genesis sound chip is a reduced form of the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer, but Konami played to its strengths, which is only smart.
Trying to step back and be as self-divorced, and objective as possible, looking at SNES sound vs Genesis sound vs PCE/TG16 sound overall, I really am forced to declare a "too-close-to-call" relative three-way tie. Speaking in terms of my more subjective, personal preference feelings, SNES definitely comes in third, but it's a really tight fight between Genesis and PCE. Heck, I might almost have a slight lean towards PCE, to be honest. Still, all three great sources for some of the best VGM of all time...even SNES. :-)
one of my favorite intro themes... elizbeth slowly panning in and out of the foreground, menacingly contamplating what her next corse of action to do to get one step closer... *to resurrecting Dracula* She's one character I'd love coming back as a female dracula, or by Dracula himself. she's one of those characters who was ahead of a characters time (mainly console wise too)
Those drum hits on "Calling from Heaven" get me EVERY TIME! Also, if anyone wants to learn these I'd recommend ThePlaymobil12's channel for synthesia tutorials at slow speeds.
The classical influence, minor keys, and modern synth and percussion of the time really fit the horror of this game to a tee. This soundtrack was clearly made with lots of research and love

Castlevania was one franchise that took supreme advantage of the Genesis and Super Nintendo's strengths and weaknesses. Super Castlevania had more ambient, fitting tunes, a super-powerful whip, two rooms that made great use of Mode 7, and more stages. This game has more elaborate tunes, a creative new subweapon, some rooms that really exercised blast processing, and more variety within each stage. one of my favorite intro themes... elizbeth slowly panning in and out of the foreground, menacingly contamplating what her next corse of action to do to get one step closer...
One of the greatest soundtracks ever.
很难想象我居然是在家里VCD上玩到的游戏,真的很棒!
My childhood. Such good memories
The classical influence, minor keys, and modern synth and percussion of the time really fit the horror of this game to a tee. This soundtrack was clearly made with lots of research and love
9:23 - !!!!!
Iron Blue❤❤❤
Best theme👍
Quite a bit of people are hating this OST, lol.
I think it's fantastic. One of the best from the Genesis.
Half, to be honest, not very good, but definitely does not deserve hatred. And half are hits.
Leave it to the Castlevania series to create one of the best Sega Genesis soundtracks PERIOD!
Stage 2 (Greece) music is TOP!!!! Germany´s music too (stage 4)
Simons theme in this game is a work of art
The composer is now working on the spiritual successor to Clocktower, she's a genius.
after all the castlevania games this tribute to Simon's theme is amazing so many years and the Sega Motherfucking Genesis rocked it
So beautiful, thanks for sharing with us.
7:18 always disturbed me. also reminded me of the Phantom's Don Juan Triumphant score from Lloyd Webber's Phantom!
03:27 Oh -__-
So many good memories with this one :( Childhood, such a wonderful time of life. Too bad, i understand it only now, when i am far for 30.
and the $$ value on this game keeps creeping up and up every month.
Definitely, I just bought a complete , in Box copy off eBay for around $300 usd
I remember being a 4-5 year old in the early 90's. The video store i rented this game from had laminated all of the pages of the book. If only i understood that this game would be the cash cow it is today..
you can buy castlevania collection tho
Masterful use of the bass and drums on the SEGA Genesis.
And the stereo effects.
9:23 this music is fantastic and sad wow! nostalgia...
The first Castlevania game i ever played, i was never into this franchise when i was little until i gave this game a try on the Sega Channel
have not played this great game for over 20 years but somehow i remember most tracks. Memory is a funny thing...
One of the best in the series. OST and Gameplay.
The beginning of the stage 6 can't be more epic @_@
5:20 epic song adoro esse jogo
Till this day bloodlines remains one of my most hardcore loved games i own and from the Castlevania series this is still a number one on my list not only did it have an adrenaline pumping non-stop vampire killing action it also had a killer BGM but it also contained awesome hidden tracks the atmosphere is just a vampire killers dream the boss battles the power ups the whip swinging the pole charge jumping with Eric just an amazingly wicked game that still gives you that spunk of that old school NOSTALGIA and really anyone can enjoy! 🤘😎🤘
0:04 - The Beating in Darkness (Title Theme)
Just wonderful!
Now I wonder why Konami didn't do the same with Contra...
"wonder why Konami didn't do the same with Contra..."
They did!
MUTRONICS Kind of, yes, but not to the same extent. For instance, the branching paths probably would've fit a lot better on the Super Nintendo.
" Blast processing " Good one... Sega got a lot of shit for that marketing phrase after it all blew over.
what do you mean "blew over"?
Probably my favorite Castlevania.
Best title & all clear themes everrr
How could the Game Pro magazine hate such a game? Well I object!! Simon would be impressed and the Bloodlines is up for the Count
