Seeing somebody this dedicated to the Genesis' awesome sound chip makes me really happy. Remembering how good Day 16 was makes me really happy as well.
The Genesis' sound chip uses a certain type of synthesis called FM synthesis. It's very unique, if you listen to some 80's synth pop you'll hear similar bass/lead sounds that's because the Yamaha DX7 uses a sound chip very similar to the Genesis'. For example the bass line for Take On Me by A-ha uses the DX7 "Bass 1". Mason+Fenn's Profiles album extensively uses the DX7 FM synthesis.

Sega's answer to Donkey Kong Country, and the game that did the concept of human civilization fleeing Earth in the distant future due to excessive pollution, leaving robots to clean up the mess thirteen years before Disney and Pixar's Wall-E did. One of the most 90s feeling game soundtracks to exist
That's because the music is supposed to be EDM, which I find to be a great fit for a game like Vectorman
Oldschool rave tracks
True
@fp_archived good to know, thank you for telling me!
It's so weird listening to these old game soundtracks and realizing this is where my taste in techno came from
Mine came from my first console the N64 and the soundtrack to EXTREME G.Definitely worth a listen to.
Same. I forgot the day 3 existed but as soon as I heard it, I was like "Oh, so now we've come full circle."
