A real tragedy this didn't get nominated for an Academy Award then again we know who the voters are in that guild so maybe not very surprising after all. Regardless this was and is a true masterpiece. RIP Basil Poledouris.
Few soundtracks work as a well as a stand alone listening like this one. This is, without a doubt, some of the best film music ever written and an often underlooked highlight of last century's orchestral music. It opened so many musical doors for me. I will always treasure it.
Wifeing/The Leaving/ The Search are some of the most heart-felt pieces of music ever scored. The longing and love portrayed by the strings, oboe, and French horn are on another level of masterpiece. So brilliant.
Came here to find kindred spirits. I was listening to the expanded version before I posted this. Much respect for posting this here! RIP Basil, your work is much appreciated!
For those who dont know: Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this, Conan, destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!
Since I've grown older I don't watch the movie anymore, but man that soundtrack never grows old, I've listened to alot of movie music, but this one.....unsurpassed.
I’ve had the Conan soundtrack forever, but was always so disheartened that it did not include the snake scene tower music. It is so beautiful and mystical. One of the best out of the soundtrack that they didn’t include. Thank you for sharing it!!!! Only way I can listen to it without watching.
I will die on the hill that Basil Poledouris' soundtrack for Conan the Barbarian is the most perfect film score of all time. Not saying that it's "the best" of all time, but it is so integral to the film that without it the film wouldn't work. It perfectly mixes itself into every scene to a point where it becomes it's own character. To this day I can listen to it front to back and then repeat.
20 years ago we played a Tabletop Roleplaying game called Earthdawn. A world full of magic and adventure and all we had was a CD with Conan's soundtrack. It played in the back and was set to repeat. All this time later it's still THE EARTHDAWN soundtrack to me and most of the good memories and epic moments were elevated by this masterpiece of a soundtrack. A timeless classic.
I can see the movie with the soundtrack only. I have seen this movie so many times. From the Wheel of Pain to Meeting the Atlantian sword to the Tree of Woe. Amazing soundtrack, a masterpiece. Should be performed by Symphonies around the World.
The music does most of the storytelling. This movie and this soundtrack are my most absolute favorites. Masterpieces. Basil Poledouris was a great composer who also did the soundtrack of Robocop.
"And We who found it, are just Men!👦 Not Gods🙏 Not Giants💪 Just Men! "For no one Conan, no one in this World🌎 can you trust!🤔 Not Men, not Women, not Beasts! This🗡 you can trust!🗡💪
I watched Conan the Barbarian for the first time and although it’s an older movie, but this is how you make an adventure movie. This is how you develop a character from nothing into something. What I also love is that the story was not bogged down in unnecessary dialogue and explanation. It was just action, visuals, and the soundtrack. The music was top notch, I felt that I was along on the adventure rather than watching a movie. I feel more motivated to go to the gym and lift heavy weights.
Love this movie so much! I was about 4 yrs old when I first saw it. The soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece! Still enjoy watching to this day with my father and brothers.
Just watched this on Netflix again and as I was tripping and falling through the internet I was ASTOUNDED and yet ultimately not surprised to find out that Basil Poledpuris ALSO did the score fore Hunt for Red October!!! So much power in his music! Should be celebrated with the greatest of all time
I have a hard labor job and this music has brought me raises as well as a 100% daily production rate. My bosses unknowingly refer to me as a barbarian for my wrk ethic lol. I have Basil to thank for it. Thank u and rest well mr. Poledoris
It is without doubt the best interpretation, with the composer conducting. One can quibble with technical aspects of the recording and performance, and focus on those aspects is what has led the shallow spiritless Prometheus release to unfortunately outstrip the original in popularity.
Honor, valor, strength, truth & justice! Absolute timeless masterpiece and I am listening to it for the first time! Maximum recognition and respect to Basil Poledouris and all who created and participated in Conan's legacy! Thank u for sharing this beautiful art!
This is among the highest quality version of the original soundtrack (and variations) I have ever found online. Thank you so much for putting this together - it's incredible.
My brother was killed at age 19, May 5, 2010. Had his funeral on May 10, 2010. Never got to visit his grave. I had joined the Navy (active duty) at that time and left for bootcamp on May 19, 2010. After graduating and going to my first command, I immediately entered a world that was unfamiliar and almost cruel-like, one I did not understand. The sounds of the ship I was stationed on, sound very much like this clip on the Wheel of Pain at 15:53, including the mindless work I did. I worked for days on end. The pain ebbed and flowed. I had good days and bad days. Was deployed 3 times. I thought of my poor parents who constantly worried that I would come home in a box. I had friends who died out to sea or elsewhere. Out of everything, my mind and determination to succeed and the will to live got even stronger. I had no time to grieve over my brother’s passing. No one cared, but I would not be broken. I persevered, rose through the ranks and overcame all. The answer to “The riddle of Steel” is not flesh or steel, but the power of the unbroken, indomitable spirit.
30:57 is probably close to being my favorite track if I had to pick a favorite from what is arguably the best film score of all time. It's also what plays in my head whenever the word "theology" is said around me in a sentence.
This is a true masterpiece! My favorite tracks are, Anvil of Crom, Riders of Doom, and others, but to me, it's the Gift of Fury that just resonates with emotions like dread, hate, and awe. Rest in peace maestro.
I think this soundtrack is actually of a higher level and significance than the movie it is attached to. And that is saying a lot, because the movie happens to be superb!
Just think. Back in the day if they had motion pictures Bach and Mozart would be the ones doing the music, so we have modern day Mozarts etc. like Basil, we just don't think of them the same way.
@Ramon Passolas True. Everything about movie is ok except Arnold. He showed only muscle side of Conan, but Conan is much more than that. His poor acting skills in early career days downgraded whole movie impression significantly.
The Soundtrack is way better...the movie has a major plot hole, how are we supposed to believe an ancient barbarian looks like a modern bodybuilder? Was there a Gold's Gym in Cimmeria? Did Conan have access to dianabol and testosterone in the Hyborean Age?
I play this in the background while I play Age of Conan: Unchained for PC while I play to get the full Conan effect. Great soundtrack. Love this movie as well. Thank you for putting this original score on YT. 😁👍
Man, this is a Godsend! There are so many different tracks that I just can't find anywhere else! The ones that stand out the most of the Wolf Witch and the Discipline of Steel section. What I would give to know where he got these from; feels like something finally found a missing part of my soul The missing and micro soundtracks finally give this album the complete feeling I've been searching for so long for!
Fantastic movie masterpiece. Scenes and soundtrack. I remember the first time I watched the movie in Barcelona in 1982. The movie excedes the marvel comic. Authentic adventure. Something dissappeared today. Thanks.
When I first saw this film in theaters I was really enthralled that the film was only action and music - and such great music! They showed young Conan's village get attacked, the death of his parents, his capture, his enslavement, him as a pit fighter, he is freed, he is chased by wolfs, he finds the ancient sword in a tomb...WOW! I thought this was an amazingly artistic film version of the Conan books ... unfortunately, then Arnold starts to have dialogue. ( heavy sigh! ) Don't get me wrong, I'm an Arnold fan. Just, ah... he wasn't as good an actor back then as you'd hope for in such an epic role. AND... THANK you Cyber Chaos Crew for posting this incredible EXTENDED sound track. It too is EPIC!
Awesome, legendary soundack, such a timeless masterpiece, not linked to any certain era! I think even Robert E. Howard, the author of the original Conan stories, would've loved it. I heard the soundtrack was finished first, and then the director filmed & edited the scenes to match the score. That's why there are so many scenes with little or no dialogue: The music transmits all the feelings on its own: All the pain, drama, adventure & suspense. I love the Conan OST and Poledouris' work but I ddn't know there is such a long, expanded version. This is even better than the already great theatrical version! And that says much. So many new motifs! A new version of an old treasure. Thanks, @Cyber Chaos Crew!

A real tragedy this didn't get nominated for an Academy Award then again we know who the voters are in that guild so maybe not very surprising after all. Regardless this was and is a true masterpiece. RIP Basil Poledouris.

Who cares about Academy Award or any awards ? Why should we care what a small portion of the people, who claim to be judges, think?
He doesn't always listen to movie soundtracks but when he does, Crom listens to "Conan the Barbarian." Listens from his mountain.
It's almost unreal how good this soundtrack is. All hail Basil!
For those who dont know:
Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of.
Why don't you watch the movie anymore? It's fantastic!
@@KorithStoneheart Like me. Probably knows it word for word.
THE DEFINITION OF EPIC MUSIC.
I’ve had the Conan soundtrack forever, but was always so disheartened that it did not include the snake scene tower music. It is so beautiful and mystical. One of the best out of the soundtrack that they didn’t include. Thank you for sharing it!!!! Only way I can listen to it without watching.
The most beautiful, stirring, powerful score ever composed.
Agreed
Certainly in my top 5 with Star Wars; Blade Runner Trilogy; Spirited Away; and Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Finally, the real, original soundtrack, had to go through half a dozen of other, fake versions before finding this one.
same it was so frustrating, because they were all 'light' versions, I wanted the one that fills your body :')
@@TallHobbit "The one that fills your body" by Crom woman, you speak the truth!
I'm with you on that hill. We die together, for Valeria.

What is best in life? January 16th. Conan returns in 4K with this glorious score in Dolby Atmos!
World class, genius composition. Probably the most powerful soundtrack in motion picture history 👏. Bravo Poledouris. Bravooooo! Crom salutes you 💪

THE GREATEST MOVIE SOUNDTRACK OF ALL TIME.
Basil Poledouris was a great composer who also did the soundtrack of Robocop.
indeed does it not

Ya ni sé cuántas veces la oí a través de los años. Que alevosa esta banda de sonido LPM!
Wow the part starting at 1:57 is so retro and nostalgic. Hit me so hard, having been a 16-yr old kid when this came out.
I've heard lots of soundtracks in my life and this is definitely the best one 🖤
The film is pretty decent too lol
Only star wars comes close. The conan soundtrack inspires me to keep battling through life
couldn't agree more
Just watched this on Netflix again and as I was tripping and falling through the internet I was ASTOUNDED and yet ultimately not surprised to find out that Basil Poledpuris ALSO did the score fore Hunt for Red October!!! So much power in his music! Should be celebrated with the greatest of all time

Definitely
I have a hard labor job and this music has brought me raises as well as a 100% daily production rate. My bosses unknowingly refer to me as a barbarian for my wrk ethic lol. I have Basil to thank for it. Thank u and rest well mr. Poledoris
Only one with the - The Defilers
May he find peace, and you grow ever stronger
30:57 is probably close to being my favorite track if I had to pick a favorite from what is arguably the best film score of all time. It's also what plays in my head whenever the word "theology" is said around me in a sentence.
Agreed. One of the best scores ever.
This is a true masterpiece! My favorite tracks are, Anvil of Crom, Riders of Doom, and others, but to me, it's the Gift of Fury that just resonates with emotions like dread, hate, and awe. Rest in peace maestro.
Basil's daughter co-wrote The Orgy. According to her, he didn't get his part right at the beginning.
This is a soundtrack that always gives me goose bumps, it deserves to be at the top. It's a masterpiece difficult to surpass.
I think this soundtrack is actually of a higher level and significance than the movie it is attached to. And that is saying a lot, because the movie happens to be superb!
Have to agree, the movie was really good but the soundtrack is the best OST i have ever heard.
Just think. Back in the day if they had motion pictures Bach and Mozart would be the ones doing the music, so we have modern day Mozarts etc. like Basil, we just don't think of them the same way.
I agree
@Ramon Passolas
True.
The greatest movie score I have ever heard.

First time listening to this soundtrack…its amazing!
This did not win Oscar for the best soundtrack
What the eff!
Excellent music score by Basil Poledouris. I also love his score for ROBOCOP (1987).
( heavy sigh! )
Don't get me wrong, I'm an Arnold fan. Just, ah... he wasn't as good an actor back then as you'd hope for in such an epic role.
AND... THANK you Cyber Chaos Crew for posting this incredible EXTENDED sound track.
It too is EPIC!
If you’re ever feeling low, this is the antidote. This will ALWAYS be the antidote.
to whoever uploaded this here, I am forever indebted to you.
I believe this to be the most perfectly executed movie soundtrack of all time.
This is an awesome approach to make a movie, usually it's done the other way round: They film & edit the scenes first, and only afterwards try to match the score "somehow" to fit it.
This movie is pretty decent for its genre, but thanks to this awesome music it became a true masterpiece. Imagine if they'd used another music, e.g. 80s syth pop (like they did in another fantasy movie, "Ladyhawke"), it'd be awful.
You can't give Basil Poledouris enough credit for his work: He made this movie work, kicked off Arnold's career (if this movie flopped, he'd probably not have become such a big super star), and kicked off an entire sub-genre, the 1980s "Barbarian" low fantasy movies, e.g. its sequel "Conan the Destroyer", "The Barbarians" or "Red Sonja" (which to me, is also an unofficial "Conan" sequel).
It's a shame he didn't get an Oscar for this music.
By Crom, well said!
"Crush your enemies.
See them driven before you
And hear the lamentation
Of their women" - Conan
I had to stop my workout just to say how GD epic the intro is💪💪
I love the Conan OST and Poledouris' work but I ddn't know there is such a long, expanded version. This is even better than the already great theatrical version! And that says much. So many new motifs! A new version of an old treasure. Thanks, @Cyber Chaos Crew!
Thank you! I did not know there was a soundtrack this long and good.
