Fun fact (and correct me if i'm wrong): The Bitter GT1 car is stored / shown at an indoor kart track in Eindhoven in the Netherlands! The track is called 'Hezemans Indoor Karting' and I believe it (still) is owned by Hezemans. Terrific video of an awesome car! For me growing up with GT2 on the PS1 it was so cool to see the car in real life, standing still non the less. This video brings back some great memories.
Yep, it used to be shown in the hairpin on the 1st floor. They also had an Esprit GT1 hanging on the wall if i remember correctly. Not sure if they are still there since they renovated the whole place.
Brings back memories from "good ol times" .. as a youngster strolling around in LeMans pits and backstage .. were an "mysterious" not so lucky yellow car was parked on a shabby fence, without its front clam .. back then I would not have believed that years later I will drive an Esprit V8GT, one that is actually my own, on the factory track in Hethel ..and that I will meet one of the Elise GT 1 cars again (it was the road car for press in this case) on a private Lotus owners community event.
A lot of stories and love in the comment section. Grew up on forza and this car is a very good car on pretty much every one it’s in. I did research on the not so successful history of it but insane car and footage🔥

I saw it in Le Mans 1997, the engine wasn't the V8 Corvette I think (the sound wasn't the same and more aggressive...). I think it was the 3,5 Lotus twin-turbo (???). One of the two cars didn't run the race because the body wasn't "straight" (after a crash...). 💯🛢️🔥🏁🏎️🤓🇨🇵
This is an amazing video the car is awesome. I've always loved Lotus cars and the Lotus Elise GT1 is one of my faves from them. This car was a monster in Gran Turismo 2. It had glitched stabilizers but once you could manage to handle the car you could do 56 second laps at Red Rock Valley raceway.
One thing that makes me sad is that THIS CAR was supposed to be participating to Le Mans Classic 2023. It was clearly showed in the entry list. But when I was here... it never happened 😔
Ok fine, british car, your sitting on the right site. BUT! Gearstick also on the right site 😲 Isn't that a problem at entering the car? Driver change is tricky 😄
I'm wondering what engine they've put in this. They originally had either a flat plane crank Chevy LT5 or a Lotus 3.5 turbo depending on the team, but this sounds like a cross plane crank V8. Maybe they've substituted it for a different Chevy engine for reliability, as the original was anything but reliable.
Definitely not the V10 described in the video description either! I'd vote some kind of race prepped / crate US flavour of crossplane V8, only because the intake note gives the impression of a large displacment
The original version of this car, has a Lotus Turbo engine, which was hopeless. The Chevy V8 was much better, but performance in GT1 wasnt up to par. Great looking car though
I used to own a 1998 Elise. How on earth did they shoehorn an 8 litre V10 out of a Viper into this thing?!?! The boot space next to the motor which they would have utilised was barely big enough to take your toothbrush away for the weekend! 😂
Everything behind the rear firewall is 100% new. The Viper engine version was stretched even further. The Hennessey Venom GT was basically a twin turbo take on this same idea.
@@NubletPie278 I mostly like the LT5 because it's not another of the seemingly infinite twin turbo V8s we have these days, and the sheer incongruity of the thing in a _Lotus_ of all cars. Seriously, the last thing you'd expect is this massive DOHC V8 screaming out to 7.5k+ RPM.
