    "are people interested in me showing books that I don't know much about, that nobody talks about?" YES! don't ever stop! It's basically why I'm subscribed to you! I'm so tired of seeing every newly released YA book talked about by 1000000000 booktubers.

      Good to know! I do like the keep up with what's new but I understand it gets old when it's all we see. Funnily enough according to my stats people tend to skip ahead videos when I mention less known books 😂

      I would be interested, I must admit I get sick and tired of seeing only the most recent and popular books & I love watching booktubers who show different books it broadens the horizon and gets u interested in more books that you never would of looked at before. Thanks to booktubers who are different and unqiue my TBR list has grown with a wide range of stuff to read 🤗🤗
      Also when I start my channel up I am planning to be different because this year I plan to read allot more adult non fiction and other sort of books that allot of people have not heard of.....

    Hey, I'm a massive Terry Pratchett fan. I know the series looks daunting, but they're very quick paced and hilarious, you'll fly through them. The language might be a little intimidating, it's very British with the occasional colloquialism.
    I read them in chronological order myself: the first books aren't his best since he gets better and better as you get on, but they're still really good. And in my opinion, if you read the best ones first and then go back to his earlier work, you kind of set yourself up for disappointment because his later works get absolutely phenomenal. So I would recommend chronological order.

      P.S. I love that book! Correct me if im wrong but it’s originally in Polish right? I’ve also heard people say the official english translated books don’t do the originals justice, and that there are other fan-translated books that are way better. Is that true because I’d rather go for the best version possible?

    "The Witcher" series is amazing! It's been really popular in Europe for a very long time (the series was actually written in the 90s), and it's pretty exciting to see it finally starting to gain popularity across the ocean :) One suggestion though: if you end up wanting to read the whole series, do NOT go by the US publication order. "The Last Wish" should be followed by "Sword of Destiny", even though they skipped right to "The Blood of Elves" when they were publishing it in English recently. But yes, highly recommend the series, excellent adult fantasy :)

    • @loati94
      @loati94 6 років тому +1

      I've been seeing people telling her to skip the short stories books and start right away with The blood of elves but it makes no sense because in The last wish a story explains you what the main plot is about and also with the short stories you get to meet the characters and how they meet and everything. I don't get people sometimes

    • @ImpressionBlend
      @ImpressionBlend 6 років тому +2

      YIKES! No, no, definitely don't skip anything. They aren't some add-on "prequel" short stories-they are the beginning of the story and what the series actually starts with, familiarizing people with the world and characters. I have no idea how someone who has actually read the books can suggest this lol

    I'm reading the Discworld series for the first time too and I love it! My parents loved the series and also said that I shouldn't start with the first couple books because they weren't the best, but I like starting from the very beginning of things no matter what so I didn't listen to them. Maybe my expectations were lowered, but I still really enjoyed the first couple books. Every book is just so much fun and I'm currently on the sixth book in the whole series

    The Last Wish is a collection of introductory stories into the Witcher world. This series did indeed inspire the most highly acclaimed video game franchise and the new Netflix TV adaption which is currently in the works. The first two books are collections of short stories, while the main arc starts with Blood of Elves and follows through every installment afterwards. This series is inspired by Eastern European folklore, and in my own humble opinion is one of the best translated fantasy works of the last 30 years.

    It's fine the read the discworld books in order the first two sort of go together and are actually not too complicated. There is also an extended TV show based on these two. One annoying thing about the discworld books is the foot notes! They are amusing but some of them are quite long. I found it easier to ignore the footnotes and read them a bit later. I love the witches, though I consider wyrd sisters to be the first true witches novel, and of course the death books were amazing!

    Great book haul! I love these and I was so so excited to see the Last Wish pop up, I just picked up a copy myself and am so excited to read it, apparently the first two books in that series are short stories that are suppose to introduce the Witcher as a character and then they become novels starting at book three...I think? Either way very excited to see someone mention it :)
    Also Scanner Darkly is a movie and its very interesting. I'm curious to see what you think of the Disc world books, Ive been thinking about picking them up but the sheer volume of them is daunting.

    The Witcher books are definitely worth a read! The main character is a witcher, who kills monsters for money. It's actually not as simple as "fighting evil", the main character (and the book in general) is more on a morally gray area. It's more complex than "monsters are always bad and humans are always good".

    I read the Last Wish (technically first in the Wither series). Like someone has mentioned, it and The Sword of Destiny are books of short stories. The Last Wish is kind of less sequential when it comes to falling a timeline but I have a feeling that some of the characters introduced will show up later on so it would still be important to read. The Sword of Destiny is still short stories but apparently follow a more sequential time order. I'll be finshing the series in 2018! Hope you like!

    Life After Life is handled extremely well. This book could have gone horribly wrong as the structure means that we continually loop back to February 1910 and the life of Ursula Todd. Kate Atkinson has a strong, very descriptive writing style. Ursula’s parallel existences take us through decades of social history - from WWI, through to WWII and the 1960s. What I really enjoyed was Atkinson’s ability to detail the fashion and fads of the times. There are rapid chronological shifts in this novel but Atkinson anchors us with each chapter dated by month and year. I think you'll really enjoy this book!

I love his works because they really make you think about problematic aspects of our society, but since every single book of his I have read plays with the theme of “what is reality?” (I won’t say more than that otherwise it would be a spoiler) I always end up feeling semi-paranoid about being in a distorted world (and that’s a good sign, right? ;) ) hope you enjoy his books :)

    Discworld is actually real easy to understand. Each "series" introduces us to different characters in the world and can take you to a different part of the world. The best way to read Discworld is to go in chronological order, each book is essentially a standalone but you see recurring characters develop and how events play out. I always say begin with Mort but as I'm going through the series once again from beginning to end (2nd or 3rd journey for me) I've realised book 2 isn't as bad as I once thought. Just don't touch book 1. Google a plot summary and skip it. Hell I could tell you everything you need to know in a few short sentences. It's devoid of humour and plot. The leap in quality between the first two is astonishing. And I'm saying this as a guy who considers Pratchett a genius and my all time favourite author.

    The first two books in the witcher series are kinda "push through it" and a bit confusing because it consists of short stories. Later on I enjoyed the rest of series. I still have to read the three that were published much later but to me it was worth it 😄 Happy holidays btw!😊

      And hearing about the books no one talks about is actually helpful because most of the books we hear about are YA. And as someone who doesn't read that much of YA I need some options and good recommendations!

    I'm reading the Witcher saga in the original Polish. The books were first 😉 The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny are novellas about Geralt and what he does. The proper "saga" starts with book 3 The Blood of Elves but you should def start with the novellas as a lot of things is explained there. I'm currently on book 5. I'm very interested in what you'll think as the author uses very archaic Polish in the original that's so confusing sometimes even for native speakers. I wonder how it works in a translation. Hope you enjoy it 😊

    The Forever War is a great book! The movie adaptation of A Scanner Darkly is surprisingly good, crazy like the book lol. I need to devote more time to nonfiction, I think I'll make it a 2018 goal

    'The Last Wish' was the book that inspired the video game series but 'The Witcher' has definitly become way more popular than the original books.

    Have you considered reading Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series? Magic, fantasy, adult and long. Wizard's first rule is the first book and quite enjoyable.

    Yes we want more books that nobody talks about! :) And in Discworld series I really love Death but Mort was for me not as good as other books in Death line, but I love how Terry Pratchett writes, he makes fun of our planet and people on it and nonsence which we can actually do in our day life :D and as well I love to see that you are going to read The Witcher, it can be quiet confusing because first three books are short stories and author dont say everything stright and you have found rest of story between lines but still love the series! :) thank you for video!

    You should watch age of adaline. It's about a woman who dies (sort of) and wakes up to live a life in which she will not age. It's one of my favourite movies of all time.
