    Yes!!! I can already tell the Cruel Prince is my favourite book of 2018 and the Alanna books by Tamora Pierce were some of the books that got me into reading! She is still my fav author even in my mid 20s. You and I have pretty different tastes but I really hope you like them!

    Awwww, Solaris! I recommend it to you once! It's very different from the movie which mostly centered around the condensed romantic plot but in my opinion the book is more of a philosophical one. It is weird and confusing but in the deep thinking way. I even wrote few quotes from it in my memory book. Stanisław Lem was a true visionary. I love his "The Star Diaries" (kind of similar to "The Martian" because main character always finds "troubles" during his journeys and have to figure them out with a lot of humour) and short story "The Futurological Congress" (it made me feel that humanity is a small speck in the universe for the first time).

    OMG, Tamora Pierce!!!!!! Her Tortall series (which Alanna: The First Adventure is indeed the first book of) is one of my all-time faves, so I really hope you enjoy them too! The writing starts really simplistic, but it definitely gets better and more in-depth as the books go on (and they get longer, as at the time when she was first publishing them, they didn't allow children's books to be very long, as it was thought that kids wouldn't have the attention spans for long books. But then Harry Potter happened, and completely disproved this idea, and so after that, Tamora Pierce was finally allowed free reign. But don't worry, her books aren't ridiculously huge or anything. XD).
    Tortall may be a bit confusing starting out, so just in case you'd like to know, Tortall is divided into a lot of sub-series. Technically you can read each sub-series in any order, but you get the most out of them if you go in chronological order; each sub-series stars a different main character and cast, but all of the past casts of characters are still present as you move down the timeline, they're just in supporting positions and in the background now. And if you start in a later sub-series, there are some spoilers for the previous sub-series, but a lot of the details wouldn't be talked about much. Does that make sense?
    Anyway, the first sub-series and the starting point is The Song of the Lioness quartet, the first book being Alanna: The First Adventure, and the other three books being In the Hand of the Goddess, The Woman Who Rides Like a Man, and Lioness Rampant.
    (The other sub-series in Tortall, in order, are: The Immortals quartet, The Protector of the Small quartet, The Daughter of the Lioness/Trickster's duology, the Provost's Dog/Beka Cooper trilogy, and just a few weeks ago, she's released the first book in her new Tortall series, which I believe is called The Numair Chronicles (the book is Tempests and Slaughter). There's also Tortall and Other Lands, which is a short story collection that features a lot of Tortall ones.)
    Tortall has always been super important to me because they are wonderful female-led fantasies that tackle so many issues that you don't see very many books do, especially issues that concern girls in particular, and back when these were first released, pretty much no one but Tamora Pierce even tried to do so. They hold a special place in my heart, and I sincerely hope that it's not too late for you to like them as well!

    I'd never heard of The Seven Death's of Evelyn Hardcastle until your last video, got it immediately, and finished it in 3 days. It was so incredibly good!!! I was in a mini slump as well, and this book helped a lot. Thank you so much for that recommendation. :)
    Also, personal opinion, the first 50 or so pages were basically torture. If you feel the same way while reading this book, just keep going. It is so, so worth it.

    When I started watching this channel, I thought that I wasn't really gonna enjoy your book recommendations because I read a lot of non fiction or historical fiction (especially related to the Middle East) and tend to not read as much YA or sci fi or genres that you seem to like but I've been loving your recommendations and it has broadened my tastes a lot!

    • @layanification7732

    • @mmmkk987
      @mmmkk987 6 років тому +1

      +Layanification sorry for taking so long to respond, I didn't see your reply.. my favourites are Khaled Hosseini books, I have yet to read and the mountains echoed but I want to get to that soon, I just finished reading intolerable by Kamal Al-Solaylee which is about the author growing up in the Middle East having to hide his sexuality and his journey coming to Canada.. I'm currently reading a book called my father's paradise by Ariel Sabar in which the author tells the story of his Iraqi Jewish father growing up in an northern Iraqi village called Zakho.. my parents are from that part of Iraq and like the authors father, we speak Aramaic (we're Iraqi Christians) so i feel like the stories being told are similar to stories I have heard from my grandmother.. I also want to read the dancing girls of Lahore because I've heard good things about it.. apart from that I like reading history related to the ME, sorry for all the rambling, I just had a lot to say lol

    • @layanification7732
      @layanification7732 6 років тому

      no I LOVE it! Thanks for all the input! I'm mostly a fantasy & contemporary reader but I really want to start branching out, especially to middle eastern literature because I feel like it's so underrepresented! Let me know if you read anything awesome because I would definitely be interested in reading it!

    Tamora Pierce is an amazing author. If you work you way through the first three sets all the ones after are well worth it. I reread these almost every year. These are the books that got me into reading. My sister would read them to me in elemtary school. The Beca cooper series is my favorite so far. They are all fierce headstrong female characters full of personality and facing down all sort of problems. Life threatening or just from growing up. They are all wonderful. I am so glad you are giving them a try. I have yet to see a booktubers that has her books on their shelves or mention her new works.

    Hi Emily, I seem to remember you talking about reading Oryx and Crake (or adding it to your tbr). The whole Maddaddam trilogy was my latest read this month and massive love at first read. If you're looking for very good and above all, very intelligent, tongue in cheek, post-apocalyptic series, that's the one! Oryx wasn't my favourite of the series, though opinions differ on the subject, but all 3 books are perfect in their own way.

    I have been following your UA-cam channel and reading list for a while and I like your reading list which is also inspired me to read a lot of different books, generally I wouldn't have known. Could you please make a video about your fav authors and book recommendations from those authors. Because I have followed few of your recommendations and I have really enjoyed reading it. Thanks for all the awesome videos you post.

    Ooh The Seven Deaths of Evenlyn Hardcastle sounds really cool. I've been in a mystery mood lately so I think I'm going to need to check that out. Along with some of the other mystery/thrillers that you mentioned! Normally I read sci fi and fantasy, but have been itching for mysteries!
    As for books I purchased: Obsidio, The Cruel Prince, Renegades, Warbreaker (on audio book) & Children of Blood and Bone. Already started Obsidio. Can't wait to dive into the rest!
    Love the contacts on you! They look awesome!

    Tamara Pierce! They definitely bridge the line between middle grade and ya, and at times there are quite adult themes. I read the second quartet from that universe this month. It's really quite good. Not necessarily great, but very readable.

    I think the yellow eyeshadow in the lower lashline makes your eye color pop
    Also, Metro 2033 has a videogame about it and I think there's four books in that series

    Recently I have been buying a lot of Agatha Christie- she is the best! I read We Are All Villains last month. I think you’ll like it. The Shakespeare stuff was ... old? And Seven Deaths sounds great, requested from the library.

    Just added a bunch of thrillers to my list! :-D
    Love the highlighter! Just watched the makeup channel vid where you talked about it and I feel like it's really popping in this video!
    I read Metro2033 a year or two ago. We used to live in Russia and I'm curious to see what it's like for someone less familiar with Russian history.
