I'm new to your channel and just now going through your videos so I don't know what you have and haven't read but if you have not read "Enchantment of Ravens" by Margaret Rogerson I highly recommend it. Especially since you seem to like magic/ fantasy storylines
Glass Houses by Louise Penny. The latest in the Armand Gamanche series. It’s my favorite series of all time. Highly recommend for all mystery lovers! Happy New Year, Emily!
grisha trilogy: i HATEDDDDD who she ended up with. it didnt feel natural and it just pissed me off that this person only noticed her when she became "special"...argh.
I read the hobbit at the age of 25, and if I have to tell you, I liked it a lot even though I was "old". Many times I think it's just a matter of timing, maybe the time has not yet come for you, maybe in a few years you'll pick it up and you'll find out you like it. This is how it is with books, they choose us. (sorry for my english, I'm italian!)
I enjoyed the Grisha trilogy, though I was upset about who she ended up with...I was like really?? It's a good series to read, if you're just starting fantasy, but overall average of 3 to 4 stars.
For the Grisha Trilogy, the guy she ended up with wasn't my favorite, but I appreciated that Alina never waffled between a bunch of guys. It was true to her character. She loved him in the beginning and she loved him in the end. Besides, one of the love interests was evil and the other one had more of a friend's thing going on. I don't know. I just enjoyed that she respected all of them, so I didn't mind the ending. And the main love interest gets more complex in the last book, in my opinion.:)
You always read the most interesting books and give me new possibilities in my reading choices. The Brian Crouch novels take my fancy in 2018 they seem just up my street so will be adding them to my TBR list for this year. Have you tried the Chronicles of St. Mary's series by Jodi Taylor? Think you may enjoy those. Have a great New Years day.
I agree, I adore the Hobbit because it reminds me of my Papa's bedtime stories. He had a very slow gentle voice perfect to fall asleep to. The Hobbit, for me will always be my bedtime story! (Along with Watership Down!)
My fav read this month was The Wolves of Winter. It comes out on January 2, 2018. It was amaze-balls. Even though I received it as an arc, I am going to buy a physically copy with my own money the day it comes out-that’s how much I loved it!
I've been skipping many videos on my feed because I'm so behind on booktube and I want to keep up. But you know you've gotta watch one if it's Emily talking about the Grisha trilogy! I've seen everyone saying THE SAME THING about the pairings in that series, and I'm missing the last book to find out what everyone means.
I would totally recommend Zero Repeat Forever! It's kind of beauty and the beast meets the 5th wave, I read it on a whim because the cover is stunning, and it totally surprised me!
The Hobbit is actually one of my three favorite books of all time so I had to laugh when you said you didn't like it :) But you and your channel are awesome so I'll let it slide
I read Publicly Shamed after I saw you talking about it and really liked it. Although, yes, some bits were a bit repetitive. I hope you'll read the Psychopath book and then I can wait for your recommendation 🤣
I started The Hobbit and put it aside for a while, but after watching all the Hobbit films I was motivated to finish the book! It was interesting comparing the additions and omissions in the film franchise, so you could try that...
Hey Emily. How are you doing? I hope that you have a very Happy New Year. I am currently working on reading/listening to three different books. First, I am listening to the Prince of Dogs by Kate Elliott, this is the second book in the Crown of Stars series. Second, I am working on a book which I think is considered Historical fiction, and that is the Midnight Rose by Lucinda Riley. It tells the story of an actress who is doing a film in England and about the backstory and flashbacks and narrative about a girl who grows up in India during the year 1911 and beyond. It is really good, I found the characters engaging and I found myself laughing at the antics that she gets up to when she was young. Third, I am going to get into reading/listening to the Way of Kings, which is the first book in the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. This year, I would have to say that my best manga that I read was the Ouran Highschool Host Club, which is a really cute comedy and a little bit of romance manga. My two most disappointing books was A Darker Shade of Magic and the Golden Compass. I actually feel asleep several times during A Darker Shade of Magic, and once I put down the book after finishing a part I found that I had no reason to think about or wonder about any of the characters. Also the action scenes were so boring, for all that they did was talk. I could tell that the author was scared of her characters using the powers that they had, which I thought was degrading. Anyway, I will be spending a great deal more time next year catching up on several of the books that I have been hearing about on UA-cam. See you next year.

Empire of Storms - 5th book in Throne of Glass series - was the best book in december.
The hobbit is a marmite book you either love it or you hate it and I was in your camp for sure! As for the grisha series, I actually approved of who Alina ended up with as she would not have been as happy or content to just be if she had been with anyone else. Her power is big but her sense of who she is is not as strong and he centres her. I know that sounds cliche and I usually don't always agree with pairings like this but that one worked. I can't wait for you to start six of crows you are going to love it!
I liked the first book in the Grisha trilogy but not sure whether I should continue... people seem to have very mixed opinions and I loved Six of Crows.. I don't know!!
The only book I read and finally finished this month was The Raven Boys and you know how I feel about it lol. I'm going to start The Winner's Curse today or tomorrow and hopefully my His Dark Materials books will come in quickly because I'm so excited to read those! Oh and btw I read The Hobbit in grade 5 or 6 and to be honest I really didn't like it then so I think I'll skip re-reading it as an adult (I like that cover though 🙂). I actual remember how much I despised reading that book as a kid and that was a LONG time ago 😂😂 Hope you have a great time celebrating tonight and I wish you a very Happy New Year!!! Good bye 2017!!!! Won't miss you lol!
Definitely agree with you on everything related to the Grisha trilogy (especially who she ends up with). I flew through the books but was kind of =/ overall.
I felt the same way about The Hobbit! It felt sooo...arduous? I don't know. It wasn't as good as I hoped and I felt like I was trudging through it. I haven't read LOTR yet but I do have them. I'm glad to hear you liked them more, because I was skeptical after reading The Hobbit.
I have a hard time recommending LOTR because even though I liked it I feel like I would have felt differently if I hadn't liked the movies so much. Plus part of me thinks I might like it more now then I did when I was actually reading it... it's weird lol
I totally agree that I wish she ended up with someone else in the grisha trilogy! I was disappointed at first but after reflecting on it for a few days I'm happy with how it ended. I think it just made it come so full circle which had a satisfying element to me. Just me?
I hope you enjoy Six of Crows when you get around to it; I read that before I tried the Grisha Trilogy, and I was very underwhelmed by Shadow and Bone so I ended up not continuing with that series. However, the Six of Crows duology is amazing I love it so much!!! My favorite book this month was probably either Solitaire by Alice Oseman (which I read in a single day and oh my god was it worth it) or Paper Girls (which is an amazing graphic novel that's kind of like Stranger Things??)
On the Grisha trilogy: I was kind of hoping she'd end up with none of them (since I always hope that in love triangles) but if she had to be with one, I'm glad it was with someone who really knew her. I actually thought in many ways it was a twist on the "everyone loves the plain girl" trope, because no one loved her until she had power that they could use. The Darkling especially was pretty transparent about using her attraction to him to manipulate her and I appreciate that Bardugo was pretty explicit about that not being love (or, you know, healthy). But if you liked the world you'll definitely enjoy Six of Crows!
Can authors stfu with the plain girl whom every boy falls in love with😂 can’t stand those Bella Swan characters who hate makeup and shopping and suprises and everything else...but all the handsome and hot guys find them so fascinating 😂
I agree. I'm tired of it. It's unrealistic that every guy in the book would fall for her, and it almost feels like it's shaming girls who are interested in traditionally "girly" things.
I've read the first two books of the Grisha trilogy. So far I like them. The first book was good, the second book was alright. Need to start the third book. I read six of Crows duology and really liked them. (Six of Crows was better in my opinion, but this is good.)
BookswithEmilyFox The third one was my favorite for sure. I just finished the first of the infernal devices trilogy. I definitely am seeing how this trilogy is better than the mortal instruments.
Totally agree about the grisha Trilogy! I was so disappointed with the ending, it just seemed so anticlimactic. I know I 'm the millionth person to tell you this but Six of Crows is so much better!!
I only finished 2 in the month of December, one book was over 500 pages long but I don’t feel bad went people read like 10 books in a month, the only person I’m in a competition with in myself. ☺️ I read a non-fiction book called The Warmth Of Other Suns by I forget her first name but her last name is Wilkinson (over 500 page one) about the African American migration that took place after ww1-1970’s and then I read The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish (Short stories/memoir) she a comedian and I laughed out loud! Then I started reading The Leavers by Lisa Ko which I didn’t finish but I’m currently reading it and loving it. Over all December was a good reading month for me because both of the books got a 5/5 rating from me
Please please please read The Psychopath test: a journey through the madness industry by Jon Ronson. That was the first book I read from that author and it really blew my mind
Degan Duke I just got this book for Christmas! So excited to read it! My friend knew I wanted to read more non fiction and I have a Psychology degree so I feel like I'm going to really like it!
I didn't like the Grisha trilogy that much but I was satisfied with who Alina ended up with, I don't think we see enough of characters actually ending up with their long-time bffs/crush as opposed to the mysterious new guy. Btw I LOVE your accent.
You should definitely check out The Power by Naomi Alderman. Sort of a dystopian universe and classed as a feminist novel. I loved the book but struggled with some of the messages she tried to convey; feminism is about equality but it seemed as if that was forgotten when writing it. Would love to hear your thoughts on the book!
BookswithEmilyFox Thank you for replying. Based on your videos I thought it would be something you would be interested in. It has definitely got a place on my favourites
My dream would be to have a library in my house. I currently have three bookcases and I have room for more books!! My question is, do you ever get rid of any of your books??
I’ve seen that you had the red rising and golden son books on your shelves in past vids you’ve done. have you read them? If so, I wanna know how you felt about them!?
I read the first one last year. Hunger games on Mars + Game of Thrones would be the best way to summarize it. I liked it but didn't love it. I plan on reading the second one next year!
I like Grisha Trilogy, but I'm conflicted. I like the trope who Alina ending up with represents, but I can see why people don't like him so much. I enjoyed The Hobbit, but I read for the first time a couple years. Maybe you'll find the movies better. I think they're ten times better than the book.
I was really frustrated with who the main character of shadow and bone ended up with. I was also frustrated with the ending in general. I feel like it was a copout so that she could end up with someone instead of being unhappy and ending up alone which probably would have been a better ending.
In regards to the Grisha Trilogy, I was fine with who she ended up with. Did I prefer Nikolai over Mal as a character? Yes. But in terms of the relationship, I preferred Mal. At the start it's a little tropey, but I think with how it ended kind of was a bit refreshing that the girl didn't end up with the "amazing, super loved, funny, perfect guy" we tend to see the MC end up with in YA.
I did like that part but my issue was that Mal wasn't really that nice in the beginning. I also didn't like the whole "pushing you away and kinda playing the victim" (exaggeration but you get it!) He overall just annoyed me as a character :/
agreed. He could have been done a bit better to be more tolerable as a character. I'm glad Nikolai is getting his own series with hopefully no Alina and Mal :p
The Grisha Trilogy, damn... The ending infuriated me, like so many other people. The person she ended up with is NOT who I was hoping for. Also, I've tried reading LOTR three times and couldn't, but I enjoyed the Hobbit a lot. So, I guess, it depends.
It made sense the end of the Grisha trilogy, because of what happened with the heroine, but it was a pity she didn't *spoiler allert* stay with the Prince.
Le Hobbit était bien moins bon que Le Seigneur des Anneaux, mais j'ai aimé sans doute parce que ça faisait partie de l'univers de Tolkien. J'ai très envie de lire Shadow & Bone !
I read the Grisha trilogy a while ago and I didn't like the heroine or the guy she ended up with. Also this series reminded me of elements of an old fanatsy series called the Sord of Truth by Terry Goodkind.
I think I’m one of the very few people that actually liked Alina and Mal together, I loved Nikolai as a character but didn’t really like him for Alina, and then I just don’t understand why people ship her with the Darkling...
Orini We are definitely a minority 😂 I wished more people realized that Mal was the only one that loved her. And yes the Darkling is a great villain but a horrible love interest
Camila Lecaros Same. The Darkling was abusive from my recollection and Nikolai and Alina had no chemistry (though Nikolai is my personal favorite-even over Alina). Mal has issues too, but he was the best fit.
I really love Shadow and Bone but the rest was also meh for me, especially agree with who she ends up with, frankly don't know a single person who liked it :D
I was so not happy with the guy Alina ended up with. I absolutely adored the first book in that trilogy but the other two books were a disappointment to be honest
I totally agree with the grisha guy she ended up with i knew she wouldn't end up with the darkling but i didn't want her to be with him. I found him so boring
So about Shadow and Bone trilogy. I feel like Alina ended up with the right person for her, because it's the only pair where both people love each other. Darkling never really loved her and he is an awful person (even though he is amazing villain) and Nikolai is great and all, and personally I liked him the most, but he and Alina have zero romantic feelings for each other. They even talked about it, how maybe in future they could possibly fall in love, but maybe not. So.. Yeah. I wanted Mall to stay dead (thou I liked him) and Alina to keep her powers. And if that happened she would probably be with Nikolai and rule Ravka together. But Alina would never grew old, she would have to see her friends and beloved ones die of old age and in few centuries she would become Darkling 2.0. Only she would be called Lightling and she would be miserable and angry and sad before next hero killed her.... So again, I feel like she ended up with the right person for her own sake and happiness XD
MILD SPOILERS I agree but I kinda didn't like Mal. The whole "I knew you forever but only realize you existed after you got something going for you and I didn't treat you all that nicely before" trope annoys me! I slightly exaggerate but you get it :P
BookswithEmilyFox oh, I know what you mean! I really disliked Mall in first book. But then for my own surprise I started to like him (not as Alina's love interest, but as character himself). I started to think of him as an annoying brother that you hate, but also love sometimes XD. By the way, thank you for answering! I really love your channel^^ Happy New Year and greetings from Ukraine ~
I enjoyed who Alina ended up with. Mostly because I really didn't like the guy she meets in the second book (I mean, he was funny but I really didn't like his personality and the whole royal family situation. Of course everyone is evil and corrupted except him.) and I hate the antagonist. I have no idea why everyone loves him. He's a murderous ass.
What's the best book you read this month?
Agatha Christie Sparkling Cyanide :D
Our dark duet and the dream thieves! Both also 2 of my favourites of the year!
i started and finished the grisha trilogy, six of crows duology, snow like ashes trilogy and have like 30 pages of city of bones left atm
I like you sitting in the chair while discussing the books you've read. Seems cozier
Loving the addition of the chair hahaha happy new year and I look forward to all your wrap ups in 2018 too!
I'm hoping everyone likes it because damn it's comfy 😂
grisha trilogy: i HATEDDDDD who she ended up with. it didnt feel natural and it just pissed me off that this person only noticed her when she became "special"...argh.
That's exactly my issue!
You grew up with her, didn't treat her all that well and didn't notice her until then... dude...
I could get used to you posting this many videos a month! I love it!
I really wish I could always post this much 😂
Not book related, but can I just say I love all your different sweaters! :D
I hate winter but love sweaters!! 😂
I read the hobbit at the age of 25, and if I have to tell you, I liked it a lot even though I was "old". I just found your channel through the videos you've been posting to wrap up the year and I am loving your channel Emily! Can't wait for more :)
I enjoyed the Grisha trilogy, though I was upset about who she ended up with...I was like really?? It's a good series to read, if you're just starting fantasy, but overall average of 3 to 4 stars.
I was leaving some books unfinished too. Just not enough time with the holidays.

Like the chair!
I think you’ll like Six of Crows more. It’s a lot of fun and I haven’t read any of the original series and I really liked it.
My fav read this month was The Wolves of Winter. It comes out on January 2, 2018. It was amaze-balls. Even though I received it as an arc, I am going to buy a physically copy with my own money the day it comes out-that’s how much I loved it!

I still need to start The Grisha trilogy!!!!

Would you consider doing a declutter video for the books you did not like this year? Or do you still prefer keeping them still?
I did an unhaul last year in June and I'll probably do the same this year!
I read The Hobbit years ago, finished it & liked it. I've tried twice now to read Fellowship of the Ring. Maybe the third time will be the charm.
I bought Six of Crows and I REALLY want to read it, but I want to read the Grisha trilogy before to not be too disappointed
JMO, but I loved how the Grisha series ended and who she ended up with :)
Happy new year!!! You are my favorite 'Booktuber'... 🤗🤗🤗

I agree. I'm tired of it. It's unrealistic that every guy in the book would fall for her, and it almost feels like it's shaming girls who are interested in traditionally "girly" things.
QueenCloveroftheice and our basic plain girl is always hating on that one ‘mean bitch’ who is always pretty and wears nice clothes
98% of the time hot people don't date/marry ugly people in the real world !!
Yes! Let's stop these stereotypes in books in 2018!
What’s wrong with not liking makeup or shopping?
I've read the first two books of the Grisha trilogy. So far I like them. The first book was good, the second book was alright. Need to start the third book. I read six of Crows duology and really liked them. (Six of Crows was better in my opinion, but this is good.)
Are you going to continue Cassandra Clare's books?
Probably! I'm still a bit mad about the twist of the first book... (I stopped during the third one)
BookswithEmilyFox The third one was my favorite for sure. I just finished the first of the infernal devices trilogy. I definitely am seeing how this trilogy is better than the mortal instruments.
BookswithEmilyFox Eveyone is. Hahaha
Totally agree about the grisha Trilogy! I was so disappointed with the ending, it just seemed so anticlimactic. I know I 'm the millionth person to tell you this but Six of Crows is so much better!!

I loved the book but struggled with some of the messages she tried to convey; feminism is about equality but it seemed as if that was forgotten when writing it.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the book!
I'm on the waiting list at my library! I'm # 37 though ... so 15 weeks from now I might read it!
BookswithEmilyFox Thank you for replying. Based on your videos I thought it would be something you would be interested in. It has definitely got a place on my favourites
im always so happy when you upload
I haven't read much this month because of finals so I don't feel like there's a favorite 😂❤️
I also can't read the Hobbit. I didn't like it as a kid either, though!
My dream would be to have a library in my house. I currently have three bookcases and I have room for more books!! My question is, do you ever get rid of any of your books??
Cindy Andrade she does look on her channel her unhaul video is where she is getting rid of books
SIX OF CROWS IS SOOOOOO GOOD S O O O O GOOD FAVORITE BOOK I READ THIS YEAR AFTER THE SON OF ACHILLES WOW SIX OF CROWS? THE BEST
I’m gonna be honest, I struggled with the second one. But I hear the 3rd one is the best one. Thanks for replying!
What camera do you use?
In regards to the Grisha Trilogy, I was fine with who she ended up with. Did I prefer Nikolai over Mal as a character? Yes. But in terms of the relationship, I preferred Mal. At the start it's a little tropey, but I think with how it ended kind of was a bit refreshing that the girl didn't end up with the "amazing, super loved, funny, perfect guy" we tend to see the MC end up with in YA.
I did like that part but my issue was that Mal wasn't really that nice in the beginning. I also didn't like the whole "pushing you away and kinda playing the victim" (exaggeration but you get it!)
He overall just annoyed me as a character :/
It made sense the end of the Grisha trilogy, because of what happened with the heroine, but it was a pity she didn't *spoiler allert* stay with the Prince.
the grisha trilogy: yes i was extremely happy she ended up w/ who she did (im basic af)
No worries I get it! I was kinda okay with but it was also kinda the whole classic trope I guess lol
Le Hobbit était bien moins bon que Le Seigneur des Anneaux, mais j'ai aimé sans doute parce que ça faisait partie de l'univers de Tolkien.
J'ai très envie de lire Shadow & Bone !
Let me guess: Essence Matte Matte Matte 02?
Milani Matte Naked ;)
BookswithEmilyFox I was so close, yet still so far with my guess 😂 Anyway, looks gorgeous on you.
¡Happy New Year Emily! We love you. ❤ #TeamEmily
I read the Grisha trilogy a while ago and I didn't like the heroine or the guy she ended up with. Also this series reminded me of elements of an old fanatsy series called the Sord of Truth by Terry Goodkind.
Happy new year 🎊
I think I’m one of the very few people that actually liked Alina and Mal together, I loved Nikolai as a character but didn’t really like him for Alina, and then I just don’t understand why people ship her with the Darkling...
Camila Lecaros omg same!! I am glad she ended up with Mal too. I love Nikolai, but not for Alina. And I just straight up hated the darkling 😂
Read Sleep Eat Repeat I completely agree with you, Nikolai is a great character he was my favorite too! Can’t wait for The king of Scars
It's a very good thing I dnfd that series otherwise I would have just been spoilered. There's a reason she didn't mention who Alina ended up with.
For the Hobbit, watch the movie trilogy. At least, that way, you'll appreciate the story more.
Happy new year it's 2018❤️🎉
I really love Shadow and Bone but the rest was also meh for me, especially agree with who she ends up with, frankly don't know a single person who liked it :D
I was so not happy with the guy Alina ended up with. I absolutely adored the first book in that trilogy but the other two books were a disappointment to be honest
I liked the Grisha trilogy but I was so disappointed with the ending. Alin shouldn't have ended with him .
Great video as usual
I totally agree with the grisha guy she ended up with i knew she wouldn't end up with the darkling but i didn't want her to be with him. I found him so boring
Dont feel bad about The Hobbit its so slow and it drags. I couldn't get into the story but I did finish it.
Oh dude I loved "So You've been Publicly Shamed" author's TedTalks
He has another book I believe on Psychopathy and how it's viewed by society too.
1:02 THAT WAS SOOO ANOYİNG
Why is one hand painted but the other is not ? Lol
MILD SPOILERS
I agree but I kinda didn't like Mal.
In response to the Grisha trilogy ship- no! That dude sucks! Alina could have done so much better
I can't believe they cut out the swear words in the audio version of Gemina - it's an important bloody plot point. Argh!
Wayward Pines TV show was a disappointment to me, books are way better.
Nobody is happy with whom Alina ended up with.
U look like Lana del Rey
Can anyone suggest other booktubers to watch? I love Emily, but want some more.
Jessica Anne haileyinbookland jessethereader abookutopia perustopiaproject (it's reagan, I'm not sure about the name) and shoutame... I love these :-)
