I love the fact that you made this channel! I used to love reading, but for so many years I fell out of it because of college. Watching your videos has inspired me to really get into reading again ❤️
Emma Grace Medalla same.
I freaking love it when you speak in French! ♥️
I was missing your face on booktube! Whenever I see a video from you, my life is complete, lol. I bingewatched all your vids recently, so needed some new content :D
I'm so sad to be back to one video a week! I wish I could always post 3-4 times a week haha
Yeah, we had a real treat over Xmas, but understable you are busy, and you've got another channel and other commitments, but great to see you again. totally love your style, my fave booktuber ;)
Same here! Haha
if you ever want to make a mini recommendation for french books I'd be really happy, because I'd love to pratcice my french more :) I know it isn't really relevant for what you want to do on this channel, but personally I'd enjoy it.
agreed! especially for anglos who are bilingual but could always use more practice haha!
I read Le Compte de Monte Cristo in French class when I was in high school and loved it!
You should try « Nos âmes Jumelles » by Samantha Bailly ! She’s a french author pretty popular with this YA trilogy. I think (but french is my first language so I can be wrong) it’s quite easy to begin with : it’s fun, light and the friendship in this trilogy is super cool !
I basically just try and read the French version of Harry Potter 😀
I'd love to read in French to practice, but because it's my 3rd language it's quite intimidating.I've read Le petit prince in French but not much beyond that
You should totally do a sci-fi recommendation video😍 this genre is so underrated on booktube
172 hours on the moon is actually really unsettling! I loved how it made me feel.
I can't wait to read it now :D
I LOVED I'll Give You the Sun, and I did REALLY enjoy The Sky Is Everywhere also! I got teary-eyed like 5 times or more and that is SO unlike me!
I'm so addicted to watching book hauls since I've been hauling books myself!
I read The Sky is Everywhere before I'll Give you the Sun so I had wayyyyy less expectations going into it, BUT I didn' expect anything from The Sky is Everywhere and was so pleasantly surprised, it was such a great read. i don't know if I can say it's on par with I'll Give You the Sun, but its zoo worth the read !!
I loved “The Sky is Everywhere” by Jandy Nelson! I read it after “I’ll Give You the Sun” and I was so happy about the book. She is one of my new favorite authors. Her writing is so beautiful and so emotional, so I really really enjoyed it. I hope you do too!
I read dark matter this past week because of you. Really enjoy it. I’m adding the Pine books to my tbr list.
The Sky is Everywhere! I loved it so much! Loved it even more than I’ll Give You the Sun. Such a great writer.
I'm so worried not to like it as much lol
I'm so jealous you get to read Octavia Butler for the first time! the two Parable books are amazing. There's a group of activists who are greatly inspired by her, particularly the Earthseed ideas put forth in the Parables. There's also a opera being performed! You should check out the Octavia's Brood anthology.
The Sky is Everywhere is one of my favorite books ever! I read it before I read I'll give you the sun and... Jandy is just a magnificent author
I love Jandy Nelson’s books. I read I’ll Give You the Sun by her and absolutely adored it. I was afraid that her first book (The Sky is Everywhere) wouldn’t be as good as the other one, but I ended up loving both of them. Her writing is just mesmerizing!
The only one of those I've read is 'Dusk, or Dark, or Dawn, or Day'. It was actually my first Seanan McGuire read and I really enjoyed it. The magic confused me at first, just the way it was explained, but once I understood, it was a breeze. I like the Wayward Children series more now that I've read it, but this book is just as beautifully written. I hope you like it!
I’m so excited for you to read Year of the Flood and Parable of the Sower!
172 hours on the moon is VERY good!! I read that in one night!
Everyone seems to love it now I can't wait!!
I love it when you speak in french! It sounds so pretty!
That French edition of Harry Potter is so cute! 🤗 I read 172 Hours on the Moon and it was good. The Red Rising series is one of my favourites as well.
Loved the sky is everywhere!
OMG, this is my first time to your book channel (I'm subscribed to your beauty channel), but when you put up the French Harry Potter that brought back memories. I'm English speaking, but I've read HP so many times, I bought the French Sorcerer's Stone (that same edition!) to see if I could get through and enjoy it, since I took French through college. And, I totally could! Loved watching this, as i'm a book-lover as well. I haven't read any of the other books you mentioned, but I have read Jandy Nelson, and I do remember liking The Sky is Everywhere.
I had to read a lot of Balzac for a realism subject at university. I thought I was going to hate it but surprisingly enjoyed it. I bet it’s even better in the original French.
I really loved Seveneves and highly recommend it! It has excellent strong, smart, powerful female characters which I really appreciate in scifi, and the whole concept blew my mind. I can't wait to hear your thoughts!
You're going to be so thankful you got Morning Star before reading Golden Son! They're definitely best read back to back!
Meant to be or what... I was just about to purchase some books.. my list has now grown. I'm not complaining 💙📖
I see Red Rising on your shelf...I loved that trilogy!
I've bought and I'm currently reading The Kiss of Deception! Thanks for the tip, I already love it. (I'm halfway)
Parable of the Sower is so intense. Can't wait to hear what you think of it. I'm currently reading the sequel Parable of the Talents. It's sad how it was supposed to be a trilogy but the author unfortunately passed away before completing the last one.
I love your makeup today, Em!
So many great books I've missed ;) Especially "Dusk or Dawn or Dark or Day"!
to the german readers: if you want to read this book in german it is called: Adolf H. Zwei Leben. Or at least I am pretty sure it is the same book. the cover looks similar...
Yes there are some translations just none in English :P
BookswithEmilyFox ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Omg thank you! I will check it out in german :D
So ready for the 24hour readathon
I discovered a few books on here that caught my interest. Added to my ever growing bookoutlet cart.
Seanan McGuire wrote one of my favorite urban fantasy series - the October Daye books. Urban fantasy is a little silly but I DO love it. Thanks for a fun haul video :)
A madness so discreet is amazing!!!! I really enjoyed it. It was a good historical fiction book. :) can’t wait to hear what you think!
Emily, I just started watching your channel! I'd heard about your beauty channel through the grapevine but I was so excited to see you had a booktube channel!
All that to say, I pronounce the Neal Stephenson book Seven Eves (like Adam and Eve). There's a reason and you will understand when you read it, but that's the title :) It is an INCREDIBLE book. You'll love it.
Yay! I discovered your channel fairly recently but I'm looking forward to every new video of yours ^-^
Eyeliner slaying like always
Looking forward to your review of Seveneves!
Seanan McGuire also goes by the name Mara Grant. All of her books are amazing.
Oh!! I hope you like 'i'm thinking of ending things' it was one of my favorites of 2016.. Can't wait to hear your opinion on it. Also, i don't know if you know but Seannan McGuire also writes as Mira Grant and her books are YA science fiction .. So if you like the way she writes (i like it a lot) you could check on those books too :) ... Love you Emily! You are the best!!!!💕💕💕🙉🙉
172 hours on the moon has some downsides but damn, it spooked me to tears. I never felt like this about any other book. And I love horror movies and 99,9% of them don't scare me at all. And not that the book was scary, but there were few quite innocent scenes that made me shake and cry. Even thinking about it gives me chills. I hope that I'm not overselling it, and I really hope that you will enjoy aspects of it, Emily. It was quite a ride for me.
Juli-Yashka your comment sold it to me, i have added it to my list 😬
I agree it was creepy. Made the mistake of listening to it on audiobook...at night. It was soooo good.
I now put it way higher on my TBR!
Yess please read Morning Star like right now!!
La part de l'autre was ok. Nothing that rocked my world. If you want something from E.E Schmitt, Oscar et la dame rose is one of my all-time favorites. This year I plan on reading La secte des égoïstes as well.
I adored I'm thinking of ending things. The ending was really haunting. Weirdly enough though, I loved The Sky is Everywhere and hated I'll give you the Sun which is kind of a strange opinion but I'm interested to see what you think. Loved this video!:)
I’ve had the sky is everywhere on my shelf for so long now and haven’t picked it up yet!
The picture in Seveneves reminds me of the Millennium Falcon!
Octavia Butler wrote Kindred. It's a WONDERFUL book!
I love your face when you said you have Harry Potter for 18 years :D Love you!
READ THE MAGICIANS AND THE RED RISING TRILOGIES ASAP!!!! two of the best series I've read in the past few years, where the story gets better with every book!
172 Hours on the Moon is one of my favesssss xx
I get so excited every time you upload a video 😂😂😂
I've been wanting to read "La Part de l'autre" for a long time! Such an interesting twist on alternate historical fiction! Like yourself, I don't read in French often but that is one I have on my tbr :)
Not a Drop to Drink is really good. I highly recommend it.
I bought Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness this month. Its the third book in the Chaos Walking trilogy and it's been so good so far!
Hi I just wanted to recommend this series The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic. It's a self published book so there a few mistakes in the book but overall they are really good. Also the book deals with some serious topics so there are few trigger warnings.
I love hearing her say "thriller", one of my besties says it the same way
I'd love to hear your reommendations for booktubers to watch.
I have the same old HP edition in french aha!
Seanan McGuire has an absolute TON of books, and also has a pen name with more books. She has a huge urban fantasy series that's really long too.
Lauren Maillet I like the Incrypted (spelling?) series, but I wouldn’t recommend the Incrypted books to anyone who fell in love with The Wayward Children series. They feel almost as if different authors wrote them, and honestly I think the Wayward children are her best work.
Daniela Chavez each of her books/series definitely have their own tone. I feel like it really gives you a good look at the narrators’ individual voices.
I just read The Magicians #1 and well, I hope you like it more than I did.
I read I'll Give You The Sun in the summer and loved it, so I immediately picked up The Sky Is Everywhere. There were a lot of similarities between the two, but I'm afraid I didn't like it as much. It did also have kind of an insta love... I gave I'll Give You The Sun 5 stars and The Sky Is Everywhere 3 stars.
I also want to read the magicians series; I've heard so many great things! One thing I heard though was that the characters weren't that likable so I'm not sure if it will be my taste or not. Right now I'm reading Laini taylor's daughter of smoke and bone series and it's sooo goood! I did a reading vlog where I talked about it and I'm so impressed!
i think she might be one of my new fave authors
I think you should read Not a Drop to Drink. It has been on my TBR for too long and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Been craving a new booktube vid to watch from you
I ordered a few books this month which are slowly getting here from bookdepository; so far I've received Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, and Radio Silence and Solitaire by Alice Oseman (who is one of my new favorite authors!). I'm still waiting on Zenith by Sasha Alsberg but it should be here soon??? I hope???
Golden Son anf Morning Star get better and better. The twist and turns totally blew my mind.
172 Hours on the Moon sounded intriguing when you talked about it, then I saw on Goodreads that it's Norwegian (I’m Norwegian). Apparently it’s the same book that’s called "Darlah", and I've been recommended so many times, but never really wanted to read, until now…
Emily, I strongly recommend The Night Club (I and II) by Jiri Kulhanek!!! It's a Czech urban fantasy series and the author is one of the best fantasy author in Czech Republic. Book Depository has English translations.
I have La part de l'autre on my TBR too!
I enjoyed the audiobook for A Madness So Discreet.
I loved 172 Hours on the Moon. Hope you enjoy it as well.
Reading my first book of the year- ‘Black hills’ by Nora Roberts and almost done with it. Next on the list is ‘Salem falls’ by Jodi Picoult and ‘The kind worth killing’ by Peter Swanson. All 3 of them are thriller, suspenseful and fast reads.
Have you read “these broken stars” from amie Kaufman and Megan spooner? It’s a YA sci-fi trilogy and it was pretty good, I think you’d enjoy it.
I love A Madness So Discreet! I just finished it
Seveneves is excellent. I need to finish it. I have about 100 pages left. But I keep putting it off because I don’t want to leave that world.
Waiting for the reviews of the sci-fi :D I want to read more sci-fi but I never know what to get, this will be a good starting point
I adored I'll Give You the Sun, but I hated The Sky is Everywhere. I hope you're not disappointed like I was!
i actually love the sky is everywhere as much as i'll give you the sun
i'll give you the sun is one of my favourite contemporaries too and i've had the sky is everywhere on my shelf for a while but i'm scared to read it :o
Awww that Harry Potter book cover
I've read "The Sky is Everywhere" and I didn't like it much but I loved "I'll Give you the Sun" :D
I have to be honest i preffered i'll give you the sun than the sky is everywhere, but I still consider it an amazing read.
Love your videos
A fellow french canadian who is tired of quebec's snow
Emily, when you get back in a thriller / sci-fi mood, check out 14 by Peter Clines. IT IS AMAZING! The Audible version is great as well :-) I think you would like it alot!
Seanan McGuire also publishes under the name of Mira Grant, check out her books on Goodreads, there is a LOT
Can you do a “best of” series? Like “Best of thriller”, “best of romance”...that type of thing? I love your videos so much btw ❤️
I want to do some in the future but I'm waiting to had "read enough books" I feel like I can't do a "best thrillers"/top 10 for example if I've only read 15-20 you know? :)
BookswithEmilyFox oh yeah, definitely! It’s probably a good thing for me to wait for those videos because I already have over ten books I’m planning on getting based off of your suggestions This channel is great for my mind but terrible for wallet. 😂
Just read Candie this month!
172 Hours on the Moon was so creepy! Had me up all night haha. I needed to read something cute and fluffy afterward just to be able to go to sleep. I'm not a big horror reader so curious to find out how creepy you'll find it ;)
Now I wanna read 172 ours on the moon! this month I bought His dark materials, Pet semantary, Neverknight and Snowman. I am also reading Sleeping giants.. But I am not as a big fan as I hoped I would be.
Because of your love of sci-fi, I highly recommend The Lives of Tao by Wesley Chu! It's a series, but even just the first book alone is fantastic. Would love to see what you thought of it.
If you like Butler try Nalo Hopkinson
Kindred by Octavia Butler was very good. A mix of historical fiction and sci fi
Seaman McGuire also writes as Mira Grant and wrote the newsflash series which is amazing, political, and about zombies.
Emily, can you share your thoughts of The Sky is Everywhere once you’ve read it pllllssss🙏🙏 I really enjoyed it, but it’s not really popular on Booktube :’( & none of my friends are into reading 😒
I apologize if someone has already mentioned this, there are over 200 comments and I didn't read them all. It surprised me when you said that you didn't realize Seanan McGuire had other books, she has a few series under her belt that I have really loved. She wrote a zombie series under the name Mira Grant called the Newsflesh trilogy, which was how I discovered her. I LOVED these books. It follows a brother/sister newsblogging team as they travel around in the zombie infested near future. Also, she has the Parasitology trilogy. In these books, set in the future where humanity has found a way to create a parasite that once inserted into the body, cures everything and keeps humans healthy forever. Then of course, things go horribly wrong. I enjoyed this one, too. Not as much as Newsflesh, but that's just personal preference- Parasitology is more science driven, like OMG what have we done/created?! and the other one seems more "plausible" if you will. Like most trilogies, I found the 2nd book in both kinda dragged, but again, that's typical. Then writing under Seanan McGuire, she has the October Daye series, of which I own but have yet to read (book hoarder problems) which is an urban fantasy which deals with the world of the Fae, I believe. There's also the InCryptid series about monsters or creatures of legend and the humans trying to protect them from being hunted down and killed- pretty sure I've got that right. Again, never read, own some. And then she has some stand alone novels (I read Sparrow Hill Road, about a ghost girl, and enjoyed that, too) and tons of short stories all over the net and in anthologies. So far, I haven't read anything by her that I've disliked. Sure, I don't fall in love with every single one, but I am always intrigued and impressed by how her mind works and the crazy shit that she can come up with. By the way, I did like Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day. I have seen some Booktubers who thought it was "dark" or "weird" but those are like, my favorite words, haha, so I enjoyed it. I find that with her, you just have to go along. Let her take your hand and lead you to fantastical worlds where you meet some fucked up characters, and just enjoy the trip! Sorry this is so long!
I know it was just a passing comment, but you said there aren't many lady sci-fi writers, which I thought can't be right! But then I googled and you're kinda right, or there are a lot but their books don't make the mainstream. 2018 the year i'll look out for more women sci-fi writers! Here are some I love anyway: Margaret Atwood, Anne McCafferey & Ann Leckie.
You have every right to recommend and review books in your native language!!! 😊
I’m very curious about 172 hours on the moon!
As a big big fan of I'll Give you the Sun (in fact it's my favourite book) who read The Sky is Everywhere afterwards in the same mindset, I'll just say don't expect it to be as good. The writing is still amazing but the plot and characters lacked a bit in my opinion, I was a bit disappointed... But oh well like you said nothing can beat I'll give you the sun ! I still hope you'll like it anyway and am eager to hear your thoughts about it ! :)
I've never seen the HP books in French!!! Which is probably weird, now that I think about it, because I live in in QC lol! I want to see what all the covers look like now! I'm going to google it.
Have you started the His Dark Materials book yet?
