Got 3/4 thru the vid thinking "wow, Emmy is manic today" before I realized I had the vid speed on 1.25, 😂😂😂.
OMG I’ve done that before!! Watched UA-cam for a couple of hours, thinking everybody but me has a lot of energy today!! Then realized I’d forgotten to set the speed back to normal after watching a replay of a live the night before! 😂😂😂🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
This video is borderline scientific 🔬 love the descriptions. Live in Canada without access to a Trader Joe's, but that didnt stop me watching Emmy analyze and dissect their candy for 19 minutes
It had me considering a cross border shop!
I'm in Montana and we don't have a Trader Joe's here either. I still wanted to watch!
Maybe you have an ALDI ? They are the same mother company.
We don't have Trader Joe's either in Australia but, we do have Aldi. They have a lot of knock off versions of the original Chocolate bars at Aldi as well. They taste similar but, not quiet as good. The Aldi Tim Tam Knock off's though are actually better than Tim Tam's though and not as sickly to eat though.
@@jorgschimmer8213 Nope, don't have that store either
100 grand bar is EXTREMELY underrated, I get it often when I have a taste for a chocolate bar.
Those are by far my favorite of the ones showcased here.
THE BEST.
I agree. It's one of my favorites and not all stores carry them like the others. You can find Snickers, Twix, and Reeses peanut butter cups everywhere but not 100 Grand bar.
Agreed. They’re my favorite. Wife & I get a bag for ourselves when handing out Halloween candy.
Agreeeeeeed
If the OG $100,000 Bar and a Kit Kat had a baby, it would be the TJ's version of the $100,000 bar.
TJ's version looks like Lion bars we have in Poland.
I thought TJ's 100 grand bar was actually a Twix version.
@@natv6563 Twix have different cookie inside.
@@natv6563I don't think so it had wafer cookie instead of regular cookie either way it looked gross to me lol you can't mess with the 100 grand is such a great candy bar
Look up Lion Bars--they have them in Canada and Europe :)
You know when Emmy says mhmm she's going to give you an in-depth review 👌🏾
If she didn't say "mhmm", I would be very concerned. 😅
Right ? Most people who eat these just notice the sugar and chocolate😂
i feel like the trader joe's wafer cookie bar was supposed to be a twix/100 grand hybrid.
Much closer to a Canadian Mr. Big, tbh
I was thinking butterfinger crisp instead of 100 Grand
Mr. Big 💯
I think it's a Lion bar
@mandorrr it looks exactly like a lion bar
I remember after you got all your candy and dumping it out with your siblings and trading candy! So my childhood!🥰
My brother and I had to go together so there was no trading!
When she was digging into the huge bag for the two Snickers bars, it was like I was digging through my bag for my craving-of-the-moment.
Have you had the all-caramel Milky Ways? They are the best... and very difficult to find. I keep them in the freezer. YUM!
I guess I'm going to get one of my full-size Heath bars now. LOL
my father recently confessed that he would go through our candy and take the adult sized bars, and here I had been blaming my brother!
Yeah. I didn't like peanuts in candy, so I could make good trades with Snickers and Paydays and such.
I think what makes the Snickers bar so much better than the others is the peanuts. They balance the sweetness with their nuttiness. Snickers bar is my favorite of the bunch too.
Same
For me it's the Milky Way bar, but in Europe it's more like the Three Musketeers bar. We also do have dark chocolate versions of the bars.
I don't like peanuts in candy bars. I do like chocolate and caramel, so Milky Way, 100 Grand, Twix for me. Also Heath.
It was the original Mars Bar for me. White nougat, caramel, almons, dark chocolate
Dark chocolate Milky Ways are sooooo decadent and they taste expensive to me, love 'em.
Now I want to try that
You should have a try at dark chocolate Bounty's, if they're available in your country. Dark chocolate with a creamy coconut filling, mmmmmmmmm.😋😋
@@telebubba5527sounds like Mounds bars!
Those are by far the superior version of Milky Way!
@telebubba5527 They are called Mounds in the USA. And the milk chocolate and coconut with almonds are called Almond Joy.
I still remember their catchy ads: "Sometimes you feel like a nut! Sometimes you don't!"
Would have loved to see this as a blind taste test. Where someone else cut the bars into equal size pieces and gave them to you side by side so you could tell which you preferred, then try to identify which was OG.
The one you compared to the 100 Grand is inspired by Nestlé's [originally Rowntree's] Lion chocolate bar. Hence, the wafer.
Oh man I love lion bars, such good texture
I thought it was a Twix
The little minis are great for variety, especially if you're giving each kid a handful. Since you're giving them more than one kind in that handful, they're bound to get at least one kind that they really like.♥
Trader Joe’s peanut butter cups are way better than Reese's. The TJ's taste like the Reese's did back in the 70s, back before the quality dropped. And they are available in dark chocolate, too, which are even more grown-up and rich.
and you know whats even better? The TJ's almond butter cups, thank me later!
The dark chocolate ones are great. Pretty much always have these in stock in our pantry. 😊
@@TheBretchenShowi literally just found out about the dark chocolate almond butter cups and have told every single person in my life how much better than reese’s they are
Yessss way better than reeses!!!!
Yes those are pretty good to, my favorite is the Crispy Rice Milk Chocolate bars , 3 in a pack .
Emmy eating delicious sweet candy to help up save money
What a wonderful gal 😉
The wicked good bag a mini chocolates is so good! Just under 5.00 and you get a lot . Each one is so good.
Just starting this video. But, wanted to leave a note... Your cheery energy (and production music) always help reset me to a "good" place. Thank you. ❤
Candy in general has gotten both smaller in size as well as more expensive
Welcome to shrinkflation. Thank the jerks who were price gouging during COVID.
Generally, no. When you look at the weight going back to the 60s, they're the same size or sometimes larger today.
@@sparrowwilson4514 In case of Europe it's our "health conscious" governments trying to make us stop eatiing sugar by taxing it. Idk if sugar is taxed in the US, I imagine not. But here it is and it's so stupid. I think people should make their own informed decisions whether they want something sugary or not. At this point all our iced teas are sweetened by making a base for them out of apple juice+adding stevia. It tastes NASTY.
@@sparrowwilson4514You mean the monopolies? We live in a fascist state are this point.
In Canada, at least where I am, you could buy a 10 pack of ‘snack’ size bars. I went to the store the other day and they have dropped to 9 bars per pack. For the same price if not more.
Ok, one more thing to add to my TJ’s shopping list!
The wafer bar looks like the Lion bar by Nestlé. Also, if you think the OG sizes are too small, you should try the even smaller German celebrations mix. Personally, I think smaller sizes lets you eat less sweets, which is good
The Lion Bar! Thanks for commenting this, I could not remember for the life of me what that bar reminded me of, because it was definitely not a 100 Grand.
I could eat two snack sizes, or twelve of the minis. Definitely not better for portion control for me!
My 90yr old Mother will only eat TJ's Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups now! Personally I love the Milky Way Dark!
Greetings Emmy! I had to chime in because I didn't see a comment about it: that TJ bar with the wafer in the middle is meant to be like a LION bar. Check them out! They don't make them in the united states. They're exactly like that TJ bar that's like a 100 Grand with a kit-kat like bar in the middle.
100 grand are so underrated!
They used to be more bumpy from the puffed rice
Back in the day, there was a similar bar called Caravelle. When Peter Paul was bought up by some other company, they quit making them.
This was a very in depth direction lol and Im here for it! These candies all look like they have been in a very cold room bc the caramel is SO firm. I was looking for that caramel pull action on the 100 grand. I’m excited to try these so thanks for sharing! ❤
We used to dare each other on hot summer days to go get a king size three musketeers bar and a large yoohoo to see who got sick first.
Hello there, how are you ?
A few years ago I discovered that Aldi had knock-off versions of a variety of candy bars... I believe they did versions similar to Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Milky Way, and Twix.
I thought that the Aldi knock-off had a saltier peanut taste than an actual Snickers bar has, and their knock-off version of the Twix bar actually had a really delicious buttery wafer, unlike the wafer in a real Twix which is pretty bland and mostly just provides a crunch. So they weren't exactly like the originals, but they were still very good.
I was wondering about those. Thanks, Emmy! 😁👍🏻💜
I love 3musketeers bars. Them and reese’s pb cups, and butterfingers are my favorite candy bars.
When you opened that bag and took that whiff, I instantly wanted a candy bar. Sadly, I have none. But, I am having some rocky road ice cream that kind of tastes like a candy bar.
I'm really glad I grew up in a time when you could go trick or treating and get HOMEMADE cookies and brownies, and popcorn balls
im not even north american and this made me wish i was born at the same time as you😭😭
I’m about to turn 60 and we weren’t allowed to keep any home made treats. Perhaps in a smaller town that was more possible.
@@tinymontgomerykitchen2334 I'm 55... and live in rural Missouri. 10 miles from the nearest gas station. Of course, we also only went trick or treating to the houses of friends and neighbors. We didn't go to strangers houses.... and a aprent was always with us, of course.
I was just telling my hubby about popcorn balls. They were so good!
we had hand made caramel or candy apples, smores and popcorn balls, sometimes even hot chocolate and cider, we even had a local parade, you couldn't beat old fashioned halloweens
Thank you for trying 😂 I was literally staring at them yesterday thinking theres no way they were able to copy my favorite Snickers. I'll wait til after Halloween for my discounted Snickers 😂😂
Love me some some Emmy!!! Still waiting patiently to see you make campbelled eggs 😉😉😉😉
I love Trader Joe’s version of the peanut butter cup better than Reese’s- so know these would be great!!!
I was surprised how salty the TJ mini peanut butter cups were!
@@amyschneidhorst1384 the milk chocolate and dark chocolate are quite different- but I’m all for the dark chocolate more!!!
@chickenjane they are absolutely incredible
I think ,the tjs instead of being closer to100 grand,is probably closer to twix
Hello there, how are you ?
Came to watch Emmy after falling down a morbid rabbit hole here on UA-cam.. First, eating disorders in women's gymnastics, then a video about the Sackler family and the OxyContin crisis.. then finally a video about the Columbine High tragedy (only made it about a 1/3 of the way into that one) !
I needed something light and fun to watch... Emmy never ceases to fit that bill...!
By the way, Emmy, thanks for doing the taste test with the OG and Trader Joe's "knock offs" reminded me of when you did the same thing with Girl Guide cookies and the in-store knock off video.. about a year or two ago... As usual you reminded me that humanity is not all bad... And there is a ray of sunshine out there if you look for it... Keep up the great work!!!
I some how quit getting notifications!? Ughhh.... missed your videos, Emmy!
From where I am, where Halloween isn't celebrated that much (but we do participate in the festivities), these are great to see. Tbh, any kid given a candy or chocolate during Halloween (or any time) as a treat, you'll definitely see the smile on their faces. I guess even us adults. And yes, be considerate to the kids getting their treats. We also give them something else like refreshments and some crackers.
The Trader Joe's one you compared to the Hundred Grand was like a mix of a Hundred Grand and a Kit Kat.
Oddly enough, most of the candies that stayed sitting in the jar during my childhood are ones I seem to enjoy now as an adult such as payday, 100grand and Milky Way. Best imo are Skor, Mars bar and almond snickers ❤ Other than chocolates… black licorice will always remain in the jar 😆
I loooooved Skor bars😊
I wasn't a licorice fan until Trader Joe’s licorice from New Zealand. It's insane.
Skor bars were Hershey's answer to Heath bars. Then they bought Leaf Co. so they now make both. I wish they'd have the small size Skors in bags.
I usually get a handful of the same items when I go to TJ's. Thank you for putting me on with something different.
Reminds me a lot of Aldi's alternatives to leading brand chocolates and sweets, you always knew someone's parents shopped at Aldi when you saw them with a Titan bar instead of a Mars bar... :P
(And quick note, your Milky Way bars are what we call Mars bars, and what we call Milky Way bars are kind-of Three Musketeers-esque, but more malty smushy stuff than chocolatey, used to be chocolatey though when I were a young 'un!!!)
Goog call.Right on.
That confusion with names carried over with the deep-fried Mars bars from the UK. American Mars bars were very different, and people replicating that would often use the wrong thing. I don't think they make the US version anymore.
I remember a U.S.A. version of the Mars bar that had almonds, vanilla nougat and milk chocolate. I haven't seen them for a while. They were pretty good!
@@cindygroves5804 I remember something like that here in the UK I think back in the early to mid 90s, but not long lived apparently...
@@cindygroves5804 The almond Snickers might be the same thing or similar. I never had either so my opinion isn't strong.
In the Netherlands, we have Sint Maarten on the 11th of November, singing songs at the neighbours' houses to collect candy! We don't celebrate Halloween here unfortunately.
Best Commercial ever !!! Thanks Emmy ❤
As a Canadian this was interesting because every time you said a chocolate bar name I was expecting something else. For Milky Way I was expecting Mars bar, 100 grand I expected maybe Mr. Big. Snickers is just Snickers but I’m not sure if we have an equivalent to three musketeers, just seems like a Mars bar without the caramel.
I have seen 3 musketeers in stores sometimes in Canada (I'm in BC), and I 100% was thinking the one Emmy compared to the 100 grand was more like a Mr Big bar but I don't think they have Mr Big in America... It's super weird thinking about the different types of chocolate bars and candies that are either same but different name or just not available between Canada nd USA lol
Yeah, when I saw the cross-section of the caramel-crispy TJ's one I was like... isn't that a Mr. Big? To be honest, I didn't realise until I moved out of Canada that Mr. Big was entirely Canada-specific! (And now I live in the UK, where a Mars bar is the caramel-nougat situation, and Milky Way is just nougat. Apparently no nation can agree🤣)
Yes, in Australia the three musketeers is known as a milky way. The milky way is known as a Mars Bars. All so confusing.
Emmy! We would love to watch a kitchen gadgets tour😍
Fun! Thankyou Emmy.
I bought a bag of the Wicked Good bars a few weeks ago. While I didn't think they were like the originals they still are very good in their own right.
That's kinda how Trader Joe's works, lol. Good, but not the same.
I always loved the smell of all different kinds of candy, together.😛.
Snickers used to be my favorite too, but Milky Way and Three Musketeers are my new favorites. 100 Grand bars are a childhood favorite that I still love as well.
I remember your old video where you compared TJ’s candy bars with the « original » ones. Good times 😊
She's done this b4?
The last time I had a 100 grand bar was when they had just changed the name from 100 Thousand Dollar Bar. Back then the caramel actually stretched string like when you ate it.
I love the color of your nails, Emmy!
never cared for milkyways, but the dark chocolate version changed me over.
I like trader Joe's or European brand candy bars. Because they don't use corn syrup. They don't make me feel funny, boosie, nauseous with a headache.
Boosie? Wtf is boosie?
I do much better with European candy, for the same reason! I’m mildly allergic to corn now, but it used to be much more severe.
@susiebear3316 Define boosie? Do ya mean boozy? Cause, these are not alcoholic chocolates.
You don’t have to consume only alcohol to FEEL boozy. I agree, the Mars Co. chocolate makes me have a headache and feel bad too. I avoid it altogether.
@@DrSimpleBeauty Imagination can be a terrible thing.
Three Musketeers was my childhood favorite. :) I still buy one once in awhile
I absolutely LOVE 100grand. I love caramel and crispies together. I actually hadn't tried one until earlier this year! Shocker!
They used to be 100 Thousand Dollar Bars. They had a jingle for that.
The Bars with the rice crispies around them look like the Australian Boost Bars. Though the Boost Bars only come in Full Size Or Mini I think. Do you have Kinder Chocolate in The States?
@@megancaldaia6708 we have kinder Bueno, and kinder eggs.
The glitter nails are pretty 💖
As a Canadian, these are so many chocolate bar types I do not know at all.
Just remember, we have a ton of chocolate bars they don't have either!
Y'know, I don't do a lot of sweets but I was craving peanut m&ms the other day and found a 10oz bag for $8.
Ridiculous 🥺
God you're good. Perfect taste descriptions.
Right?! It's so frustrating when cooking shows describe food as, "So good." I think, "Really? What about the texture? Mouth feel?" Emmy should give workshops.
Sneaking out to the garage to raid the halloween candy..😂
The marks on the bars were made so you can identify the inside of the bars.
100 Grand is my favorite candy bar and it is SO hard to find. I can't decide if that's a good thing for my sweet tooth or not 😂
We have the bags of fun-sized here. If you're in the US, Walgreens will probably ship them.
Now i have the 100 thousand dollar bar commercial jingle in my head...
The one that you paired with the 100 grand is actually a copy of a British candy bar from Nestle called a Lion bar. I have lived in Europe for almost a decade and I miss having a 100 grand bar. A Lion bar is just not the same, sadly.
The 100 Grand "dupe" seems like a Mr Big bar to me, But I guess that's a Canadian thing. And we don't have 100 Grands
The extra mini bars (squares?) would have more chocolate compared to the fun size so it's probably cheaper while charging us the same (or more!).
I love eating Snickers with pickles. My family thinks im weird but i love it! 😍😋😍😋
Hello there, how are you ?
with the waffer down the middle it reminds me of a Mr Big but without peanuts
The 100 Grand dupe looks more a like a Lion bar, popular in the UK
Hello there, how are you ?
Milkyway midnights are BANGIN
“Stick your nose into the trick-or-treat bag!” :P
The person who came up with the idea of mini's has no friends. 😄
Dating myself, 100 Grand used to be called 100,000 Dollar Bars.
I’m 72 and can remember when Fifth Avenue bars actually had two almonds on top. They quietly discontinued putting almonds on them decades ago. 😢
I picked up the TJ's bag a couple weeks back and I wasn't a big fan of any of them. I didn't side-by-side them with the originals, and I haven't had the originals in a very long time, but they very obviously didn't taste anything like the original brand bars.
I'm also more of a dark chocolate fan, so every time I pulled one of the wafer ones out of the bag and saw the black wrapper part of my brain would go 'ooh, dark chocolate' and then be disappointed when it was milk chocolate.
That’s so wild that they’ve taken the “mini” snack sizes and cut them in half. Absolutely blown away by that. And also- not that it was good to begin with- but that’s even more plastic waste now.
Now I have a craving for chocolate, thanks 😂
This morning I found a bag of Reese's peanut butter cups that I didn't know I had. Yea!
Your right candy bars and candy in in general for so much smaller than they were before
happy 2023 halloween emmy and family! im a dark chocolate lover myself. i love a good quality dark chocolate bar with caramel, or freeze dried fruit bits. i love the dark chocolate covered pomegranate and blueberry gummy candies by brookside the most! and yes i agree, milkyways are pretty underrrated. i love their milkyways midnight bar, as well. 🙂
Ooh, one of local chocolate companies used to do an orange cranberry dark chocolate at Christmas and I was so sad they discontinued it!
Zero bars have been halved in size, shocked me when I got it
When young, Zero was my absolute favorite candy bar. 👍
This was my dream job as a kid. To spend hours tasting and trying out different chocolate bars and getting paid for it.
The reason 3 musketeers is not a kids fav is that the frozen experience was yet to be had.
This is the most serious video I’ve ever seen
Every part of the snickers bar is fragrant and flavourful
"Stick your nose into the trick-or-treat bag!" *laughs* that brings me back. One year, I walked to the house that gave out the full-sized candy bars... sadly, not long after that, the family moved away.
Not that you could have easily done this as a solo production but it would have been interesting to see this comparison done as a blind taste test.
Thanks. I was curious.
I like the little square because it is a smaller serving and i cant have much sugar. Just one of those is about all i should have at a time. If i get anything bigger i will just eat all of it.
Oh btw I would sort my trick or treat candies by preference and Milky Way was in the second pile along with the Three Muskateers bar. In the last pile was all the sweet tarts, smarties and tootsie rolls.
These were so delicious. ❤
when I would go fishing with my father, we used to take apples and Snickers bars for lunch. It was tasty to get a bite of apple along with some Snickers in the mouth. May sound a little weird, but it was good.
There is a “fruit salad” that my niece makes with apple and snickers and whip cream and some other stuff. Pretty delicious! “Snickers pudding” or something like that.
@@racheltsethlikai9898 That sounds like it would be pretty tasty!
I appreciate this. Even though there's no trader Joe's anywhere near me. I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania.
all about the king-sized butterfingers if you want to be the most popular spot for trick-or-treaters.
Let’s be honest Emmy , your chocolate cravings got the best of you.
Now, Trader Joe's just need to make the ice cream version of each. I will so buy them.
U have such a calming voice
JUSTICE FOR 3 MUSKETEERS, THE BEST CANDY BAR!!!
Check out the Go Max Go line of chocolate bars, a veganized homage to mostly the Mars line. They use rice milk to give it that milk chocolate flavor. I like them better than the originals, but that's probably because I'm allergic to dairy so the non-dairy ones do nothing ick to me.
My favorites are the Jokerz bar (veganized Snickers) and the Major bar (veganized Heath toffee bar).
They only seem to come in the regular size bars.
Snickers is my jam all day long
As an adult, Milky Way has become my go-to candy bar, hands down.
Thank you, Emmy! I think I might try those sometime!😜
I'm thinking that part of the cost of name brand products goes to marketing.
