I cant't express how I've missed the sound of that engine. I know, this is a piece of well constructed metal, but when I see when this car is coming back to life, it's just like a friend talks to me. It remembers me a lot to my "yellow-black-runner", a 50 HP Specialbeetle 1303 S. I've loved that Special Bug. Greetings from South-West Germany.
Had 72 bug marina blue brand new from star motors local dealership bought for 2295 if wanted radio had to pay more like 50bucs i think. Took to florida in 72 used it there n left it there at dealers it always had to have tune up . My first car took it to key west in 1976. With husband before married. 😂
Amazing!! You are just like I was 30 years ago. Wish I still had my 72 Beetle!! Or, 69 bus, or any one of my Rabbits. or the Dasher diesel. Thanks for the vids!!
As an old retired bloke who spent 40 years making parts for Rolls Royce AERO plus Its Industrial Marine Division, I am and always will be a petrol head old school type BUT I sit and watch with pride that RR aero has proven it can be done to go fully EV, its the beginning of a long as untold story that will soon be in real life bigger longer range aircraft - great news good luck.
Great find. I sold my yellow 1973 VW in 1986 to two Japanese young guys. It has been idle for about a year but had enough gasoline to get it started and they brought a gas can. Sold it for $800 in 1986 of 1987. It needed new seats and also the rear fender was in need of replacement.
Does it push, Yeah! Does it run, Yeah!! A twofer!!! Thanks for another great vid Jay. Take care. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
That appears to be a '74 Sun Bug, were gold with sunroof and 4 spoke wheels. '74 first year with shocks in bumpers, front is right, but rear bumper mounts have been changed to '73 and prior style.
I love a crank back sunroof. They seem to be really rare. I had a '69 beetle that I got from dad who was the original owner. I loved that car. The first year with the black stripe bumpers and a 1500cc.
Hey I live in the state of Washington brother I've been watching you for many years you're funny entertaining and I love your videos I noticed lately that you are doing more more videos that's awesome!!
This episode reminded me of the Beetle I bought and drove in Germany while stationed at Ramstein Air Base. Over there they are called Kafers. Even says it in the brochures! My Beetle was a german spec sport beetle. It had Cibie fog lights mounted on the front bumper from the factory, blacked out bumpers, and trim. It was also orange! Similar to Hemi orange on the Plymouth Dusters. Man I miss that Bug, it was a 73 or 74 Standard Beetle, flat windshield with the large tail lights. (I bought it from another Air-Force GI in 1985).
Thanksgiving day 1974 brand new VW. , a long story. Summary is a fright train, black cat and a lady crying as she looks for her baby along the river. Full moon of course. I spent a month in the hospital the ambulance took me back to my parents house in a full body cast on Christmas Day. I want that car.
Strange configuration. A 74 shock-type front bumper with a pre-74 rear bumper brackets and rear end taillights in rear. Low back seats(pre-70?). Almost a Franken-Bug. I love my 74 Bug good luck with it.
Putting a 1962-1967 taillights on the 1972 VW Bug, not a Super Beetle. Next thing we all know is to put 1966 and earlier old fashioned “Porsche” headlights as of European look. Or maybe graft the front fenders to put the 1937, 1938, or a 1939 Ford teardrop shaped headlights. Since most parts are interchangeable for the VW Bug from one year to another.
I can do nothing but love 5150mxVW, The episodes are fun, entertaining and exciting. The episodes make my day. Often it is to walk around the house for a few weeks with my head hanging and wait for the next video episode. But then comes D day! Everything will be as usual again.
very enjoyable video, couple of funny guys, I chuckled at your reference to Mike Brewer as the gum flapping guy on Wheeler Dealers. I`ve been dealing with, and in American cars for fifty years in the Uk and now Australia but always had a fondness for the Beetle. Cheers n beers Guys.
Cool video and perfect length if you ask me. The good thing about the mid 70s is you can still find them in OK shape and in 10 years, when all the 50s and 60s are gone, this one should start rising in value pretty fast. I think in 72 they started with 4 rows of cowl-vents in the engine cover. 71 had two rows. Yellow was the most popular color during this time because there was a popular children's books titled "Volksy (The Little Yellow Car)" re-published around the same time. Have a great week.
Man, you’ve got a couple a Ole Bus’nBug guys creamin their jeans back here fellas! We gonna have to go to Aircooled Anonymous . These vids bring back cravings ! Great stuff!

Jason this yellow bug looks decent. That front bumper looks like the German models I've seen with the turnsignals and maybe Mexico market cars.
Hi Dave , yes it is pretty solid ....I think they shaved the front signals and added that cal look style post 67 bumper
It’s a US market sunbug, still has the shock mounts on the front, rear has been messed with though.
