@@alliepetty1005 yeah 30 years ago when they dumped them there they probably were junk and doubt you would want them it's like saving a Passat now there crap and nobody wants them
I ve always been an NSU prinz guy myself, but,i remember about 30 years ago there was a beige colored 60s bug down the granville gorge back where i used to live in mass. must have gone over the side of the road and not been recovered. There was also the rear half of an oval window in a field in southwick. I also found a 60s era bug body behind a house in westfield. Evidently, these things are abandoned everywhere! Glad to see youre a CT neighbor! Im in Manchester.
We really do appreciate your efforts in making these videos Jay. I watch everything you post on both channels, thanks for taking us along with you mate.
Back when I was in college in 1965 a friend had a European spec split rear window bug. It had been bought in Germany by a member of the Australian embassy staff. It went with him to different posts around the planet and then to the US when he was posted here. He sold it to my friend. College kids will buy anything with wheels. It had the little flag turn signals in the door pillars. I wonder what ever happened to it.
This poor beetle is so rusty underneath that it seems a miracle to me, that it didn't fall apart when you were pullin it up and down the trailer. Btw... it's strange but this one has two different front fenders. The right one with the "lying" headlight glass and the left one with the vertical headlight glass from a 70's model. Cool channel and cool rescues you are doing 👍👍👍 Cheers from Germany, Andreas
Jason, you may be getting to that stage of the “saving old vw’s” part of life where you need to get a forklift… The kind with the beefy wheels that go off road. They are especially useful when there is more daylight than metal! 😂 I love that you used a tree to get this one off the trailer. Classic! Keep these videos coming-they are awesome!
Awesome rescue! It's good to see you still have the skills learned from your past rescues. This one is quite rough. I can see why Jen doesn't let you have cash.
Ha ha getting so sentimental at the end - your missus is glad! ... although that oval could be a nice black on red OEM+ with a bit more power, and some hidden goodies 👍
She’s a bute Clark! ;) I know you figure out how to bring her back, or at least part her out correctly! Another nice pick, Jay! Hopefully we get to see how Ethan works out with it.
Hi jay..Jay... Should have had Mustie help for muscle...lol...and used his tilt back trailer! And your right, he'd want to try to get that motor going! 😏. Great job helping a friend, and saving a classic. Greetings from Southern Michigan!
Looks EXACTLY like this one. It HAS rear fenders with directionals, headliner, seats still in red. It DOESNT have an engine, rear deck lid, hood, or steering wheel…
Option A) check on google maps and see if it gives you the property boundaries and a street or lot number. Then go to the local council chamber and ask who owns the land. If you are polite and explain you are into old cars etc they are more likely to help. Option B) start by knocking on the door of the nearest house, explain that you are into old cars and are trying to find out who owns the one on the land over there. if they don't know, ask them who might know. Keep chasing, if you hit a dead end, ask at the next closest house. Etc. Option C) go to the post office and see if you can find out who delivers on that road, then ask them. If the postman doesn't know he/she will probably know who to ask.
Saving any of these bugs means that meaninful parts are available. What comes to mind is being able to section a portion of a door or window, to then weld it to a good lower portion: poor man's OEM!!! Chris Gatineau QC, Canada
Oh man, that car is rough. But the black/red color combo is my favorite for old cars. Looks like it may have had an accessory Dehne fuel gauge installed, judging by the holes int he top of the gas tank. EDIT: I helped a buddy haul a few old VW's out of the woods several years ago. The last trip was two dune buggies on one trailer. No good way to get them off, so we tied them together, tied the rear one to a tree stump, and stomped on it! Worked perfectly, too. No ramps, just speed and power. That was good for a laugh!

Found in my stomping grounds! Wouldn’t be surprised if that 1956 Oval was originally sold at New Milford Volkswagen which only closed a few years ago.😮
I saw the trim on the relict vehicle left behind. I think you were clever enough to bring it with you. As it was not there anymore when you drove off. I have a question: Honestly is there anything on this vehicle you can still use? Maybe the roof or the rearwindow frame? I can see it mainly as yardart though. People are shaking their head as I have half an Austin A30 beside my house. They think I am braindamaged or something. I even had this car painted (in Wallace and Gromit paint) and braced it together with steel, wood and aluminium. But after ten years sitting outside it looks like shit again. I even had the headlights turn on with motion sensors and a car battery when you got near it. But now that is not working anymore neighter. I just do not have the heart to scrap it.
Well on the plus side the top half looks really good but the engine is toast I think. You did well getting it out of there, one of your more difficult rescues. I love the 'drive away and hope' to get it off the trailer, yeah that will work.🤣 Well done Jason.👍👍
Good video, consistent with your style and pracitice and worth my time watching. Jason, I think you have very good editting skills with the material given. I guess you didn't bring cash because you just weren't feeling it for this one. It was pretty rough (engine rotted) wasn't it? Nice of you to introduce, Ethan, another VW aficionado and rescuer. At the end of the day, he looked happy.
I enjoy every rescue. Quite surprising was a portion of the "wrong address" section at the end. From 25: 04 to 25: 12 is a view of the garage (with an American Flag) of a newer house looking at Candlewood Lake. I know that house, because I am the architect. An interesting way to back into "Mass Media". Good luck with the Oval.
Good Luck ! Last time I saw an unload like that a couple of beers were involved, a lot of discussion a lot of cursing. And the old boy revved his engine up to about 4000 RPM dropped it in drive and fired that car off the trailer. Hey I live on Lakeview Dr.
Watching all these vehicle rescues in some really tight spots I wonder if a gas powered, two-wheeled boat mover might be a good tool to have in getting these vehicles out?
My first ‘first car’ was a ‘63 beetle. Owner wanted $50 if he kept the battery. I opened the door, pulled up the back seat and started laughing - the battery had rusted right through the floorpan and was sitting on the driveway with two cables leading down to it 🤣
Have you ever considered modifying a sailboat trailer with ramps on the side? You could jack up the car and drive under and move the jacks when backing up.
The steering-wheel in the second one was in better shape! I'd gather up every scrap there, just for parts. Oh man, not a lot of meat left on those bones, is there? XD Ah well, parts is parts! Right?
