@@5150mxVW I tend to think it is too late for 70 year old cars in the rust belt, except for plastic parts that sun bleach in the desert. The most neglected cars, the ones being most neglected, are the ones you see in the crushers, which are generally half that age or even less in the rust belt. the future classics rather than the current ones. Yes, this car is a true classic and saving it is worth many hours, but there are 30 and 40 year old cars that can be saved in minutes, though the air cooled ones are mostly in Mexico. Still, it is good for a mechanics image to be seen in a car this old. As for jacking, I prefer to use stable cribbing wood between the jack and the ground than to use wood between the car and the jack, which is hard to stabilize, and short cribbing, around 2 feet, isn't too hard to lug around. Cribbing might need to be a little longer to accommodate the length of a shop jack, but I believe proper cribbing is the way to go when jacking cars high.

"It's a harbor freight lift, what could you be nervous about?" 😂😂🤣 That caught me off guard. I was appreciating all the care he was taking to Jack that car up on soft ground. 18:31 I haven't finished watching this yet but I really appreciate the respect you're all showing for the owner and that pile of metal most VW owners, back in the day, come to call friend and family members. Well done guys, thanks for sharing this.
My Dad had one of these in Germany in the 1950s. He was doing his national service 🇬🇧 with the British Army. He’s 88 now. I’ll have to dig out the picture of the oval bug and send it to you ❤
In the early 1960's I had a 55VW, 36 HP, no synchromesh in first gear, no gas gauge just a lever you turned with you foot when it started to sputter. You had to have a good rapport with it or you didn't get anywhere! I loved that little car. And it had a sporty Fiat-Barth muffler on it and sounded real good. I drove that car from Ca. back to Arkansas and Oklahoma and back. I was 19 years old and lived in it for 5 weeks while traveling. It was quite an adventure. I'm looking forward to your restoration. Thanks for sharing with us.
1956 the year I was born so she's 67 years young, I could swear I had one so close to this with the little oval. I was such a fun car. I drove it with no brakes and just the emergency for so long, back and forth to work and driving around. I love this, good luck with it. I've missed your videos like this Jason.
Great Rescue Jason! A coveted year oval window for sure! Living in the SW desert, that rust is just shocking. The mice pee damage is also incredible to say the least. Great job!
lmao, twisted lmao...clearly you don't know $ht ...you think that chassis got twisted from both rear wheels being on the trailer ...one locked front going up the ramps and one rear wheel sliding on the wood deck ...like i said , my intent was to free up all 4 wheels w/ the drum puller , throw the nice roller rims on and roll it out .
I think all those classics are steadily finding YOU Jason !, they know they’ll have a good home. Another good find, Dubwerks has a keen eye. It will be great to see a”will it run” on this one. Weather looks great too, summers here, good time for beetle repairs.

HELL YEAH RAD DUDE!!! Awesome score!!! Looks very similar to my 56!! Mine was Nile beige. That is an early 56 because the heat vents are up by the front firewall, they moved em back in mid 56!!
Awesome rescue! As sketchy as it looked, it reminded me of the olden days and the rickety trailer. At least you didn't have to dig it out of the mud. Your rescues are always fun to watch.
@@5150mxVW Your videos are chuck-full of self-deprecating commentary, which I find very entertaining. I’m glad the baby Harbor Freight lift worked out. The operation looked pretty sketchy on film. Poor Don must have aged 10 years observing it in person!
Roof rack looks similar (suction cups) to the one on a ‘63 Beetle my dad bought back in the late ‘70s. Guy he bought it from said he bought the rack from JC Whitney.
Wow that does look in quite good shape if it has been sat for 40 years. I think you are right it seems better than the 58. I do think that the weather has played its part on the paint but the front wing/fender looks like it has had some work at some point. If it has a reconditioned engine that would not be unusual for many cars of that era though perhaps less so with a Beetle. A good find Jason and a lovely old man to have bought the car from. Good luck. 👍👍
