For me this is an ultimate anti-war song. I consider myself as one of the oldest Dire Straits fans. Since 1980, when I heard Sultans of Swing for the first time and I didn't even know who they were, it took me almost half a year to figure that out. And they are still one of the greatest bands ever. I can't make it through without getting at least misty eyed, or full-on crying. The lyrics speak of the futility, stupidity & senselessness of war - "We're fools to make war on our brothers in arms". I have been at war and since I came home - that was back in 1977 - and years after it I heard this song for the first time, it was the same feeling which I had after recovering from PTSD.
