Imagine our feelings back in the day (1975) when, as a late teenager (now 69 years young) I rushed out and bought the shrink-wrapped LP from a music shop in Birmingham, England. Caught the bus back to my student digs, fired up the Garrard turntable with the Ortofon cartridge and listened, rapt, through the Wharfdale speakers as loud as the landlord would allow. This music is timeless, full of meaning to this day and in the future. Genius, enjoy the journey
The second half of this track (Pt. 6-9) is just as amazing and a bit funkier. In my opinion this is not just one of Pink Floyd's best compositions but one of the best compositions ever created!
Seconded. As the culmination of the album, the emotions felt in the first half are ramped up to a climax that gives me chills even after...gawd idk, hundreds (a thousand?) listens. It battles with Hey You and Dogs for my fav PF track, and a few minutes of it are my favorite musical moments ever, bar none.
I've always preferred the entire I-IX, as it feels like a whole meditative haven for me since I was a teenager. But anyone getting to hear it for the first time, I'm sure the smaller cut is more than enough to get the Pink Floyd magic across to them! Plus, a half-hour, complete version might intimidate newcomers, lol!
I was born in 1955. I purchased this music and listened in the corner with headphones while my parents watched TV, and I used to be with them. I was amazed by Pink Floyd, it was new and anything new to me was what I wanted but the significance of their music didn’t reach my young mind like it does now while I’m 69.
Pink Floyd is like a force of nature, that almost defies explanation, and it's likewise difficult to describe. I had my first experience with Pink Floyd about 45 years ago, and I still can't explain why it moves me the way that it does. I love seeing you guys discover it for yourselves.
Beautiful reaction guys, as always. I’m glad you both liked this version as well. I really sympathise with what you said Dominika about wishing you could listen for the first time privately, with your eyes closed. I suppose that’s one of the disadvantages of having a reaction channel. I’m sure you’ll listen to it again in your own time. I can assure you the brilliance and beauty of this song doesn’t fade, even after a thousand listens.
It’s not too late for Dominika. Just put on the headphones, close your eyes and listen to the whole album. Although these tunes are pretty good stand-alones but they weren’t meant to be.
The only thing about the thousandth listen is that it seems so short. If anything, like hymns sung at worship, the music of Pink Floyd becomes MORE powerful with time and familiarity.
Many years ago when I wanted to retire from auditing and become a lecturer, my old room-mate from 1979 told me: shine on you crazy diamond. That was such an inspiration.
Whenever I listen to Pink Floyd, my intellect tells me that I'm listening to music, but my heart tells me it's something much more significant that can't be labeled.
Please don't judge what I will say, I am also an opera and classical music fan, but this is a true masterpiece, equivalent to the classical compositions. You can say this because it never fades in me although I listen to it for the past 45 years or so. Just like a classical masterpiece it is.

This was my first introduction to Pink Floyd as an 11 year old boy in a small town in country Australia in 1979 and it is still my favourite of their "songs" (hymns). I am so grateful to my schoolfriend who gave me a cassette tape recording of this album. It started me on a different path of music appreciation compared to other kids. I am so grateful to have known Pink Floyd all my life, almost a soundtrack. I can't tell how many times I've listened to it, but every time it transports me, as you say, timeless!
It’s amazing that four notes and a chord change can raise the hairs on your neck like it does, and as for Dave’s sublime guitar……..it’s like a silky breeze washing over you! As good as the accompanying images are, I still think the best way to experience this particular masterpiece is to shut your eyes and savour every note! Loving your reactions as always guys!

To say PF's music is timeless is an understatement! Their music will still be alive centuries from now and their name will be known just as Mozart and Beethoven are known today centuries after their time on this earth. PF were one of the great composers of our lifetime and we are fortunate to be alive to witness it. And some of us were very fortunate to witness them play in person! The greatest concerts I've ever seen!

You should take over parts 6 to 9 of this song, it's really a master piece, and all 9 parts together are a dream. As always, thank you for your reviews on Pink Floyd music and for your soul feelings. Greetings from Spain.
Shakespearean! That is apt. Musicians will be listening and playing Pink Floyd 100s of years from now. IMO, they are the greatest rock & roll musicians. It is because they mastered the art of music.
Nice to see you get mesmerized by this emotional masterpiece. I believe the lyrics are a tribute to their dear friend, founding member and original creative force Syd Barret. Who turned seriously mentally ill and had to stop working with the band. "Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond... Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky..." Heartbreaking😢
I was 11 when this album came out and my older brother bought it. Started listening about 4 years later, 'stealing' the lp when he wasn't at home and puting it back in exactly the same place, before he came back. One way or another he always knew I played it :o) At that time I wasn't listening for the lyrics that much. It was pure the feeling, the emotion that got me. The understanding came later, when I grew older. Loved the music back than, still love it (even more) right now. I was lucky to go to a Pink Floyd concert years ago. Berfore the break songs of several different albums where played, after the break they played the entire album 'Dark side of the moon'. It was magnificent!!! I love seeing you together, enjoying, experiencing and talking about music. Not only Pink Floyd, but also Nightwish, Sabaton, etc. Thank you for sharing this with us!
What a great selection of Pink Floyd. Together with The dark side of the moon, Wish you were here, the album from which this masterpiece comes out are the two best. Listening to shine on you crazy diamond is a total trip, so light some candles, close your eyes and let your mind fly. Keep on rocking ❤
"The Pink Floyd Effect".......great phrase Dominika. When I had you react to the live version with Crosby and Nash I was undecided whether to have you do the studio version first. I'm glad somebody else requested it after all. This piece is indeed a masterpiece.
Old souls produce creativity deep and enlightened art. These guys came into this life having already understood some deep stuff about the human journey.
welcome to the world of pink floyd your ears will become more demanding when listening to music not anything will please you PINK FLOYD IS ART. love you guys ❤
Love your reactions and heartfelt honesty with how this music affects you. I have been swept away by Pink Floyd for almost 50 years and I still experience that “Pink Floyd Effect” every time I listen to them. It never gets old, or boring. I can, and do listen to Pink Floyd every single day of my life! And the journey is real, I am just metaphysically transported and transfixed by their music and lyrics and I just ride along wherever it wants to take me. Love them so much and love seeing others like yourselves so affected by this legendary band. Welcome to the Pink Floyd discipleship! There truly is no other band like them.
Pink Floyd, the pinnacle of music. Seen them live when I was 15 years old (1988) in "De Kuip" in Rotterdam (Netherlands) with 50.000 fans. They played late in the evening because they had the biggest light and lasershown in the world at that time. My mom and dad raised me very, very well!!!!
Great reaction, Pink Floyd can be supremely relaxing and entertaining at times. I first saw them at 17 in Carnegie Hall, NYC before the Meddle album came out, they had a quad-sound system so we were in the middle of 4 stacks of speakers, a virtual sound vortex. Everyone around me were older and musically knowledgeable pointing out specific key changes, analysing the compositions at a deep level during a break/intermission in the set. The next two times I saw them was during The Dark Side Of THe Moon tour. Those concerts still have a profound effect on me 50+ years later. R.I.P. Syd Barrett (out of the band after the 2nd album) & Richard Wright (there from the beginning).
I think life finally comes together when you’re 70+. You get an understanding, an overview. I was 25 when this was produced; so much great music, concept albums. I’m so happy 🤣
Thank you both again. For me, the original recordings are so often the best - in this case, "Shine On..." in particular, it's an all-time classic piece of art. Personally, the video, even though I respect and generally like Gerald Scarfe's work, for me it's not what i want to focus on - the music is so beautiful in itself, I don't need anything else...
To be clear, I love Gerald's work. It's just that when I see reactions to "Shine On..." where the video is the focus of attention...it doesn't feel right, at least for myself, I only want the music...
Great music and lyrics should evoke strong feelings and emotions, no apologies needed, I find myself with tears in my eyes when I listen to these great songs as well.
Listen to + Feeling PF = Experience PF. I start listening when I was 8, not understanding the lyrics and meaning yet. I already felt the music was special because it made and makes me feel all kind of things and brings me in different emotional states. The full experience started a near 5 years later, studying English in school and the lyrics as a missing link. Now almost 50 years later it will always stay my nr1 band, nothing has come close all these years. Try also the parts 6-9. For me it’s one and it feels like missing one leg. Many reactors forget or don’t know it.
Your sincerity is as powerful as the music is. Again, it is such a pleasure witnessing your experience. With each composition, you are getting more conscious of life's lessons. The lessons we did not learn in school, but were eager to discover. This is what Pink Floyd has always meant to me. About this track, as what the sparse lyrics stand for, words cannot always express what we feel in our souls. When a tear spontaniously appears, words are not needed. ❤
Definitely definitely do "Welcome To The Machine"!!!! It still sounds futuristic even though it was done in 1975!! Also the video you are watching was actually played during their concert in 1977 called the "In The Flesh tour"! They played it on that giant circular screen you see in their Pulse concert. According to Rodger Waters, the album and this video represent "absence"!! If you really think about it it really shows in the video because the figure has no face therefore absence!! Absence of expression absence of looks etc!! And finally yes Pink Floyd's music is timeless. Timeless like Mozart & Beethoven and Pink Floyd!! Music that always sounds relevant no matter what year you play it in!!
While Pink Floyd's lyrics speak to your conscious mind the instrumentation has a conversation with your subconscious mind that has a hypnotic effect that draws you in. Could they be from another planet?
I love you guys, I've watched quite a few reactions now, and I'm so happy to be sharing this music with you all these years later. I listened to this at boarding school in 1976, in a quiet room with the lights out and no distractions and it punches right through to your soul. And now seeing your reactions it has just as much power. I really don't think there ever has been, or ever will be, a band quite like Pink Floyd. Much love from 🇬🇧.
Hey you two, the whole albums a masterpiece, excellent. If I was you take a look at the 'PULSE CONCERT' version, if only for the 'Double Sax' solo at the end, a real stunner, three cheers to you two thanks
Excellent as always, guys! You finally did one half of the Crazy Diamond experience (My favorite song ever) And yes, it's extremely hard to put into words the pletora of feelings that surround you when you're listening to this (song & group) Keep up the spirit! El Charlie
Energy is infinite and the true “language” of the universe. Energy is what you feel course through you , because you are energy yourself. Music like this is at a frequency that makes you and moves through you and the most inner currents Within you. That is why you cannot explain, because words aren’t universal, but what you feel , the energy of it all it is. ✨❤️🔥 Always a treat to witness you two move through feelings and energy of each song you listen to. 🫶🏽
Notice the wine glass at the being. What kind of guy is Dave you ask. Dave & Polly were walking the streets of Venice came upon a guy playing wine glasses. Instead of tipping him he ask if he want to play the being of this song at the concert that nite. he did and Dave pay him. imagine what that guy thought. It nice that the 2 of you actually not just hear but listen to the music. That why the radio play is so limited cause you have to LISTEN and not just hear. more coffee on the way.
Love your heart felt reaction! The song is written about and dedicated to founder member Syd Barrett who left the band in 1968 after developing a schizophrenic like mental illness maybe triggered by the massive amounts of LSD that he took.Either way such a shame because he was a musical genius.
I love your comments about the songs of the best group ever. I have been listening to Pink Floyd for 30yrs and more as I get older (73yrs) the songs become more meaningfull, they are just as fresh now as they ever were.😊😊
I'm so glad to see you both listening to this song. If you take out the band context about being an ode to Syd Barrett - it's about the dreams you lost and things that didn't turn out the way you wanted them, and that little spark that's still in our souls. The music just portrays it so beautifully. I love playing the guitar parts to it, but I will never get it to sound as beautiful as this.
Great reaction guys! I'm like you, I find it so hard to put the affect of Pink Floyd's music into words. I judge music by how it moves me emotionally and PF move me like few others. The fact that they were able to perform the music so brilliantly live as well makes them even more remarkable. Timeless masterpieces by genius musicians, we are so lucky they found each other.
Great reaction, as usual. Subscribed. Listening to the end of this track, particularly, I can hear the influence that Floyd had on subsequent electronic/psychedelic music, especially the rave stuff of the early 90s...Orb, Primal Scream, etc...Pink Floyd were so ahead of their time...
David Gilmour is simply amazing. He can make sounds with his guitar that you didn't know existed. This music is pretty much the complete opposite of that German band we love...but Pink Floyd will leave you haunted. Beautiful 💜
"Sometimes I don't know what I'm talking about.......,and that's most of the time". I couldn't have put it better myself!. I get you my friend.I have no doubt we all do. Thankyou.👍 Zebedee from Oz. 👍
Thanks for another heartfelt reaction. As you progress through the Pink Floyd universe, you will come to understand that the real magic lies in the soundscapes and lyrics - nearly all of their 'official' videos have nothing to do with the song itself (there are a couple that do, like "Another Brick In The Wall"), so it is fruitless to try to analyze the imagery. Just sit back and experience the world they are presenting at the moment. Pulse videos or studio tracks are far more suited to reactions and analysis (which you unfailingly make interesting - love your unbiased takes). Sadly, once you have been through the bulk of their catalog, everything else will seem lesser by comparison...with the possible exceptions of Steely Dan and The Alan Parsons Project (two other era bands that defied the norms, and are pretty much a genre of their own). FYI, Alan Parsons engineered "Dark Side Of The Moon", which may explain his direction after that experience. Both have extended catalogs worth exploring, and follow the same basic formula - two key members, fleshed out by a dizzying, and ever changing, array of the best session musicians in the business. Enjoy.
Quite possibly the most beautiful piece of music from the 20th century.
Agreed.
The whole “Wish you were Here album is a masterpiece. The rumbling at this end of this is the lead into Welcome to the Machine.

Agreed, I love to listen to their music with eyes closed to just soak it in. Even though this is the official video, I prefer no distractions at all.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky..."
Heartbreaking😢
I was 11 when this album came out and my older brother bought it. Started listening about 4 years later, 'stealing' the lp when he wasn't at home and puting it back in exactly the same place, before he came back. One way or another he always knew I played it :o)
At that time I wasn't listening for the lyrics that much.
Don’t get me wrong they were great live but the studio versions always the best for me 👍
Don't ever apologize.. your reactions and comments are appreciated.. it's Pink Floyd...music's Best!
The look on your faces on the first pause was priceless!
Old souls produce creativity deep and enlightened art. These guys came into this life having already understood some deep stuff about the human journey.
This was the first Floyd track I ever heard back in the mid 1970s at school. Blew me away then - still does now!
welcome to the world of pink floyd your ears will become more demanding when listening to music not anything will please you PINK FLOYD IS ART. love you guys ❤
19:45 at the end of the song, without interruption this intro of the song "welcome to the machine." You must check this, if you haven't.
Love your reaction from deep emotion and soul!
Loved your reaction 🤗 parts 6 - 9 now please 😁 🎶
This is probably the only pink Floyd song I prefer studio version to
I’m glad yall feel that too ❤
This whole album is one of their best.
Damn. I gotta wait another decade until it comes together?
You’re making me tear up! So different listening to this as a teen to now in my 50s. The shine of youth that I now see in my children. Wow.
I'm with you two. It's hard to adequately describe Pink Floyd and what they mean to me.
Totally psychedelic prog rock. No one has ever done it better than Pink Floyd.
Another Pink Floyd 's master piece.
Great music and lyrics should evoke strong feelings and emotions, no apologies needed, I find myself with tears in my eyes when I listen to these great songs as well.
I watched the first pause, the few seconds of silence and the glance, and thought , yep.
This is part 1-5........the 2nd half is even better: parts 6-9
Arguably better👍🏻
In your opinion of course!
Most reactors ‘forget’ it…….
Disagree but it doesnt matter, the entire song is phenomenal.
I will never forget where i have been and what i've done the first time i heard this song...
Sometimes words aren't enough. I hear you, brother.😊
You both are unique and beautiful and that’s why I love your reactions.

very good
Did your doggy have headphones on too? He sure looked all laid back and chilling in the background. Very cute. Peace!
🐶💚
Soundtrack of my life...dreams hope wonder ..was playin this when i was going sleep..babies love them too
Definitely definitely do "Welcome To The Machine"!!!!
This is why i like people to watch the video version. It takes you into the song and makes you think more
While Pink Floyd's lyrics speak to your conscious mind the instrumentation has a conversation with your subconscious mind that has a hypnotic effect that draws you in.
Everyone here, I salute. An absolute masterpiece that changes a listener. No helping that.
It’s the musical concept by Roger W., the great lead guitar from David and the great arrangement from the band… out of this world!
Funny how a lyrical description of one's descent into madness can also provide personal introspection
Hey you two, the whole albums a masterpiece, excellent. If I was you take a look at the 'PULSE CONCERT' version, if only for the 'Double Sax' solo at the end, a real stunner, three cheers to you two thanks
Excellent as always, guys!
You finally did one half of the Crazy Diamond experience (My favorite song ever)
And yes, it's extremely hard to put into words the pletora of feelings that surround you when you're listening to this (song & group)
Keep up the spirit!
Always a treat to witness you two move through feelings and energy of each song you listen to.
That why the radio play is so limited cause you have to LISTEN and not just hear. more coffee on the way.
love to see your dog in the back ground. this even mad him so laid back. he didn't get into so home made brownies
To be honest the best reaction to this song is literally don't react at all haha. You just close your eyes, relax and enjoy. A masterpiece!
This song set opens you up emotionally to the possible. It inspires thought.
Unexplainable Greatness!!!!
David Gilmour is simply amazing. He can make sounds with his guitar that you didn't know existed. This music is pretty much the complete opposite of that German band we love...but Pink Floyd will leave you haunted. Beautiful 💜
That's a masterpiece!
"Sometimes I don't know what I'm talking about.......,and that's most of the time".
I couldn't have put it better myself!.
I get you my friend.I have no doubt we all do.
Thankyou.👍
Zebedee from Oz. 👍
‘Talking about music is like dancing about architecture ‘ quote from Steve Martin
hey don't apologise - love to hear your rambles - a beaut reaction to a beaut song. That's what music is about -feelings.
You aren't lost. You are just on one of the most wonderful journeys you will ever take
Thanks for another heartfelt reaction. Enjoy.
That key change when Gilmour comes in always gives me shivers! Another amazing reaction.
Finally you did it. Great reaction! Next: Shine on you Crazy Diamond VI-IX.
