      Could you check your driver seat. I just bought mine and looked at several others but the driver seats are not centered. For example all car's driver seat centers around the steering wheel but ones I've tried doesn't. The driver seat is rotated little bit to the left. Even my friend who had 2015 model told me the same thing.

    The best minivan for decades. I have been driving so many different minivan brands but the Sienna stands out as the most reliable and the most refined. 286K miles without any major issues. Still runs on original engine, transmission, AC, suspension, Fuel pump, paint, electrical windows. Amazing brand and amazing minivan.

    My belief is that the body roll you mention right in the beginning of the video is the tires. I've owned two AWD Siennas and they don't have a spare tire, so they come with run-flat tires. Run-flat tires have a terrible ride, poor handling capability, and wear out quickly. When the tires wore out on my vans I replaced them with a mid to high end tire and the difference was amazing. The body roll and handling improved dramatically, but the weight of the van combined with my aggressive driving habits still wore the tires out quickly. The tires made it feel newer than the day I drove it off the lot, with tight and responsive steering and handling like you expect from a new car. We went with a high speed rated Michelin tire and it was a 100% improvement. After putting the new tires on our Siennas, they actually became fun vehicles to drive.

    I have a 2012 Sienna Limited. A ton of similarities in the componentry and fit-finish (third gen). A testament to a great design as Toyota has kept it around for almost a decade. 159K on mine, and still running strong. With such a long production run, it's clear people won't have trouble getting parts to keep these vans on the roads for a long, long time.

    Probably the most utilitarian vehicle you could buy if you don’t absolutely need off road capacity. Much bigger than the Pacifica and crazy reliable. Nothing is more comfortable on a road trip and way more cargo than ANY SUV.

    I have a 2015 Sienna XLE and use it mostly to haul stuff. Removed the rear seats when I purchased it & never bothered to replaced them. A feature seldom advertised in this car is that you can slide a standard 4 X 8 sheet of plywood in the rear with the seats removed and as many 8 ft 2X4 s as you want. I've done it more than once.The roof rack is also handy for carrying stuff. Why not get a pickup? I've had several trucks and hate the stiff ride. This is a smooth riding, quiet car and I've never needed to haul any really heavy stuff. All wheel drive is great, especially here in Michigan where there is lots of snow and ice.

  • @appleiphone69

    I consider the negatives of AWD. Are they run flats? Spare tire available? Run flats are expensive to replace. If you have to replace one tire do you have to replace all 4 because of AWD system? Service of the AWD system, extra expense.

    Good vid. One thing you didn't mention: Even in 2020 the new Sienna is still a derivative of the 2004 (second gen) Sienna. Make a chart of the stats (weight, length, wheelbase, height, width) and you will see they are making nearly the same van a decade and a half later. The new Pacifica (eww, Chrysler, gross) is the newest original van concept. The engine in the Sienna is, in itself, a derivative of the 1992 3.0 1MZ-FE V6. It's gone from all iron to iron block and aluminum heads to being all aluminum, and is nowadays being coupled with things like electronic steering to reduce loads on the engine and boost the power without needing to design a whole new V6. Hence the increasing amount of horsepower over previous generation without any increased torque. The MZ-FE series (just like the 4-cylinder engines of the era) were very well engineered, so maybe we should be glad that Toyota has invested in interior remodeling instead of spending those millions of dollars on creating a brand new engine.

    My wife bought her Sienna SE new in 2015. Fabulous vehicle with one exception, the brakes. They are the weak point of this vehicle. Brake pads and rotors in the front at 40,000 kms (24,000 mi), then at 90,000 kms (54,000 mi) front and rear pads and rotors. It’s not her driving, she is a safe driver, doesn’t speed or late brake. Was told by Toyota service that it’s a common problem. Otherwise a 👍up for the Sienna.🇨🇦

      I heard that from Toyota techs that don't work there anymore the rotors don't hold the heat, they warp. A set of drilled and slotted may work or like autozone's max discs, and pads. I had a slide pin that bent. some 14's and 15's had a TSB to cut the plastic in the front to cool the brakes. Frquent washing (car wash) and lubing of slide pins might be needed.

      You would be suprised how similar they behave. Crossovers and SUV's have a higher center of gravity but minivans weigh more. Crossovers and SUV's are just cars on stilts. They aren't any more useful than a station wagon and they cost more to buy and maintain than a wagon. Unless the SUV has a locking differential, you are just buying your crossover or SUV because it has a higher ride height and because they are trendy, not because they are better to drive.

    All wheel drive really sucks. I had one with AWD and its terrible. Limited selection of quick wearing expensive tires that ride hard. And if you get a flat you have to replace all the tires, if they don’t have the same amount of wear or you damage the AWD system and most places will not repair them because it’s not recommended. Some people want to replace them with regular tires but there is no spare. The space where the spare would go is taken up by the extra drivetrain to accommodate the all wheel drive. That means you have to carry the spare in the passenger compartment. The gas milage is absolutely terrible. With all that said I still think it is the best minivan out there. The Honda doesn’t even come close except reliability. I just bought a 2020, with regular drive and it is a wonderful vehicle. Just don’t buy the AWD. It’s a real horror-show. I can’t understand everbody’s obsession with SUVs. They get worse gas milage, have less interior space, get worse
    and cost more.

    • @ImGigantor

      Could argue that buying a late model in the 3rd generation is a good bet. Toyota has perfected the design at this point, along with having a fleet of nearly a decade worth of gen 3 Siennas out there. That equals cheap repairs, easy to find parts, and overall lengthy ownership.

    I rented a 2018 model last year. Drove it over 600 mile round trip with my wife and 3 children. They all loved this minivan. Lots of room inside so easy for the wife to move back and forth between the passenger seat and the other rows even when the car is in driving mode. The ride Is so comfortable and smooth. Acceleration and maneuvering is excellent comparing to it being a minivan and AWD! Great review Dave. Keep up the good reviews coming.

    • @Rekcuf690
      @Rekcuf690 5 років тому

      Pretty sure it has to do with sticker price...

    • @reidloscidem3562
      @reidloscidem3562 5 років тому +1

      The sticker price plays a role, yes, but the profit margins should be different; and yet it's not. So there is something more to it. So what is it? Does it provide a similar driving experience than its competitors? Does the every day driver really care about all the bells and whistles?
      I think it would be a great review opportunity for this channel based on its name.

      @guy proulx The Dodge Caravan was cancelled and replaced by the Dodge Journey in 2008. The Grand Caravan is about 11" longer than the Caravan and it is still sold to rental companies and maybe other fleet buyers.

    Just purchased 2020 XLE AWD Sienna, finally replacing our 2004 same model. Thanks for demo on center seat removal, one of the items I was looking for. Hoping to find similar demo on sliding center console next to the driver (I do miss the old option of removing the console altogether), current info on run flat tires that are installed on AWD models. Also wish the side view mirrors could be folded in electronically. would be a great feature for this very wide ride. Almost everything else about the vehicle, however, means we'll be at least as happy in it as we were with our 2004 --

    All the kids piling in the back? This guy is still living in the 90's and early 2000's. Fact, Everyman driver; the average family only has 1.8 kids, can't justify a minivan for that. The minivan is looking for an older demographic where the driver's are older and for the most part the kids are gone. Fact is, these minivans are very comfortable and quiet and the manufacturers are not necessarily looking at families that buy these vans but couples that used to have families and know how utilitarian and comfortable these vans were and are simply getting better.

  • @deadlyapollo
    @deadlyapollo 4 роки тому

    That interior is just awful. How do you still have an interior from the early 90s? Abysmal crash rating for the segment, cheap leather seats, no stow and go equivalent mid section, wallowing body roll, and costs the same as the Pacifica/Odessey.
    Shame on you Toyota. Glad I bought the Pacifica over this.

    My '13 has the same features. Only thing Toyota doesn't do well is not having storage under the passenger middle seats. Otherwise, Honda, Nissan or Toyota's minivans are the best.
