This video really takes me back! I lived in Atlanta back then. Visited the Hyatt, rode the elevator. Saw Allman Bros and the Who at the Municipal Auditorium in 1969. Spent many fun nights on Peachtree down at 14th St. and afternoons in Piedmont Park. Even went to the film festival the next year. Thanks!
Thanks for this. I'm also an ATL native and I never new about this event. I did attend another event a couple of weeks later...the first Atlanta Pop Festival. Too ban The Doors couldn't have performed there.
Interesting i have that pic of jim on the wall. Didnt know where it was from. 1969 is when i thought jim sounded the best. Most of their dates were cancelled and we got robbed of the prime Jim morrison.
Wow! My Dad worked at the Chateau Fleur De Lis! It was owned by Atlanta restaurateur Werner Herman, who also owned The Red Roof Restaurant around the corner, and later, The Ancient Steakhouse on Memorial Drive! Great video!
I bet out of all those "important " people ,Jim was one of the few who really appreciated the structure of the building, rather than the stuffed suits at the reception who probably( at least the snobs) had personalities like an olive-stuffed pimento.
I too would've ordered several bottles of wine for the table and given my room key to the cute presenter girl if I'd been the only one there without a tux
I believe this way Jim has fought his nervousness & shyness, but w/ unpredictable & in many cases disastrous results. Cause a lot of his friends keep saying he was a shy guy.
No. Unfortunately, The Doors never performed in Atlanta. Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger did perform in Atlanta with "The Doors of the 21st Century" in the early 2000s.
@@TheDirtyDoors I remember that my cousin was going to drive down there when the Doors were scheduled to perform, and I was going to ask him if I could ride along. He didn't think I was cool--in my own way, I was _very_ cool--but I never did. I thought I heard a recording a few years ago, that was supposed to be the Doors in Atlanta, but maybe it was a recording of Ray's and Robby's performance.
I have never understood how the Doors documentary feast of friends turned out to be so badly made. Jim was intelligent , a film school graduate, and a film , buff, and so was Ray for matter. Didn't Jim realize that as a film the finished product did not hold up at all. Apparently it even elicited boos at one screening, I'm not surprised. . It is more like a home movie, than a proper documentary. It's a shame the Doors did not hire a seasoned director to make a documentary about the Doors instead of relying on Jim's film school friends.
If I had been of age back then, I PROMISE I could have been one of those crazy rock stars. No butt hurt cry babys, everybody up for a good time.( Check out Don Rickles and All In The Family or Paul Lynde) I could have gotten blasted and had a great time in front of the rest of the world. He was very talented though.Very gifted.
Great vid. But I’ve always wondered about the well worn tale of Jim peeing in a wine bottle under the table. Just imagine trying to pee into a wine bottle. I think the story is apocryphal.
When I lived in GA , I loved going to spots that legendary rock artists were at. Best was venue, now restraunt that the sex pistols played on their original 7 date us tour. Malcolm McDowell put them in parts of the states were they prob would have problems, which is stupid when yr managing a rock band w late teens/early 20s punk rockers yr trying to really break in the states like they were in the UK. tour destroyed the band
Haha jim buys budweiser. You know for being rock star jim probably didn't have money he just got in somehow. He could've been homeless. Ill tell you if you lived here youd be homeless by now.
This was very well written and presented, I would like to hear more abstract and lesser known stories and tales. Keep it up !!
The BookofBaba thank you!
There are actually more details of this visit from 3 first-hand sources which are quite amusing and interesting.
Nominay Link? where to look..🤔
@@Nominay Really? What else did he do?

Jim did a good job of describing the hotel.
Awesome. You should make more videos like these!
Just a southern boy after all..... RIP Jim..... You earned it you insane genius
he peed in a wine bottle
They are less uptight, and are friendlier down there.

They were invited, but Morrison declined, citing the band's (perhaps his) disdain for outdoor gigs.
Great video, job well done indeed. Nice to hear Jim describe his stay at the hotel in his easy going manner.
My parents took me to see the Atlanta Regency Hyatt back in the early 70’s. I was amazed too!
Jim Morrison (1943-1971) age 27 and attended Florida State University and is a UCLA graduate 👨🏻🎓
Another great piece of work sir.
Thank you!

"I dig the South"....I dig you Jim😉
But the west is the best.
Jim was Southern
@@shanemichaels3083 yes..born in Melbourne Florida....lived in Alexandria Virginia too...
Right on, man
I'm also Atlanta native I remember as a kid in the 90s you could see that hotel that I called the ufo building from interstate 85 but now you can't!
I'm an ATL native...this was great to come across...listened to some of ya'lls stuff..👍👍👍. Any upcoming gigs here?
Thank you! We will be performing at MadLife in Woodstock, GA on November 9 and Venkman’s in Atlanta on November 29.
Jim is alive and well, here in Atlanta. I dig the south.
Nice work, Elrod!
"Let's just say I was testing the bounds of reality. I was curious to see what would happen.
That's all it was: Just curiosity" Jim Morrison

I wonder if he took the time to visit Stone Mountain.
I think it's mentioned someone died falling from the top of that hotel in that interview
Yes, but I wasn't able to find any evidence to support that.
I hope to find subtitles in Spanish in your videos 🙏😭

I’m scared to death of Atlanta, but now I want to go stay in that Hyatt!
Why are you afraid of Atlanta? It's not a scary place.
You’re scared of Atlanta? Has to be one of the oddest statements I’ve read on here. What on Earth would cause you to be scared of Atlanta?

Did Jim Morrison meeted Mick Jagger?
Yes, they met in Los Angeles in 1968 on the day The Doors performed at the Hollywood Bowl.
@@TheDirtyDoors thanks, but Mick never confirmed that history

Malcolm McLaren was Sex Pistols manager
“27 floors” ironic
Interview was with Howard Stern, not Smith. Cool video though.
mykeadelic It’s Howard Smith. He was a writer for the Village Voice. Howard Stern would have been about 15 when that interview was conducted.
