The Unauthorized Truth About Oliver Stone's 'The Doors' (2022 Update)
Переглядів 257 тис.2 роки тому
Oliver Stone’s film 'The Doors' starring Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison was released in 1991. Like most biographical films, 'The Doors' takes many liberties with the actual facts about Morrison’s life and the band overall. Unfortunately, too many movie viewers accept what they see onscreen as reality and rarely make an attempt to learn more about the subject. So, if you think Jim Morrison was nothi...

    …I d like to add that what Stone left for the next generations, the kids , is a bad image of Jim Morrison who was a poet, and he is not a bad example but an artist in his own right! So kids don’t go and watch this movie , it’s crap , don’t believe Stone, ever! listen to the Doors, the music, to Jim s lyrics.

    I watched the movie when was out and I thought Oliver stone made Jim look like an imbecile…and he wasn’t…I thought too that Oliver should get his head checked! U can see how Ray is angry with Oliver crap movie …and that says it all! The movie is crap.

    Even as a casual fan, I could tell the film was bullocks when I saw it for the first time decades ago. Just Morrison saying "yeah" with a sneer after "couldn't get much higher" on the Ed Sullivan clip---never happened! That was put in for dramatic effect to make the moment seem more rebellious than it really was! And that was just ONE example, but one most obvious when you saw the original clip!

    Its sad, a lot of ppl from my generation grew up with that movie , and were programed as a kid . We see him as Val, another Kid Rock, not the guy who asked for the complete works of Niche instead of a car for his graduation present.

    They should make a new Doors movie so Jim can enchant a whole new generation. Jim represents freedom and understanding all of life is an illusion.

    Excellent video, I have two points that I would like to know more about. What about the supposed baby that Patricia had? and there is an interview with Alice Cooper where he mentions that those palnalones were stinky, "you could smell Jim approaching", i think that part was real.

      @@TheDirtyDoors That part was real then? Oliver Stone said that the character of Patricia was a mix of several women in Jim's life.

      @TheDirtyDoors 11 днів тому

      The Patricia in the movie is an amalgamation of different women. But the real Patricia supposedly did have an abortion. She wrote about it in her book. It didn't happen the way it is portrayed in the movie.

    Jim Morrison was a genius with a 149 iq. Yes he could get out of control when drunk but at his core Jim was a good man who died way too soon. A brilliant poet, lyricist, songwriter, artist and filmmaker. Out of all artists who died young I miss Jim the most.

    I don't believe Oliver Stone intended to portray Jim Morrison as a jerk. As a dramatist, Stone revered Morrison and depicted him as he saw him, flaws and all, while still showcasing his genius.

    Excellent job on this video. I interviewed Ray a handful of times back in the day and once I asked him about the movie. He said (might not be verbatim) "It looked great, the songs were great, but everything else was wrong." It would have been interesting had Ray had a chance to direct the film.

    Thank you for this. It presented Jim Morrison for what he actually WAS. A beautiful young man, extraordinary gifted and sensitive, who had a serious problem with alcohol and the demons that drinking evidently brought out in him. The film really did his legacy a disservice with its portrayal of him,imo.😢

    John Densmore is such a class act. When I 1st started to discover The Doors as a teen in the early 90s, I viewed Densmore as a dorky square who was just lucky; outta place. As I've grown & matured, John is actually the member I respect the most. His words & actions seemingly imply & humble, good guy. Also, he was a perfectly integral part of the band...as necessary as Morisson in crafting The Doors.

    Its very difficult watching any Millennial commentary on a time they just cant understand. When this film came out no one thought he was portrayed as an arsehole. It was seen as real and gritty. Toxicity was very normalised back then. You look and see an abusive addict. We saw a passionate imperfect rock star. Context is EVERYTHING. I wish that you young un would understand that.

    • @TheDirtyDoors
      @TheDirtyDoors Місяць тому

      I'm not a Millennial. I was very much alive when the movie came out. And as a member of a Doors tribute band, I talk to Doors fans all the time who reference something false that is presented in the movie and think it actually happened.

    FFS! No one thought it would be anything but a Hollywood movie.... Exaggerated....stylised... Dramatised. It was a great movie and come ON! Jim WAS a bit of an arsehole. Many men were back them. Listen to how other musicians talk about Jim and you'll see where Stone got his ideas.

    THANK YOU! for your work on this. I’ve immersed myself in Morrison and The Doors, and appreciate your efforts to redeem Jim from the myths that surround him. Unfortunately, the movie will live on and keep dispensing its misinformation. The band-members’ and friends’ books, the interviews, the concert footage, Jim’s writing are the best ways to learn the truth about the band and Jim.

    I think the movie brought The Doors to my generation. Unfortunately we were not alive when Jim was. The movie seems to have been geared towards my generation, not Jim’s. We were desensitized to things that would have been shocking or controversial in the 60s. I was about 15 when I saw it, In my first band, experimenting with substances. We were attracted to something that was more spiritual or mystical than the garbage on the radio through the 80s. The Doors seemed mysterious and foreboding. I think the movie captures that. It did lead me to listening to everything they ever recorded. It was my first step of becoming a life long fan. The soundtrack was the first Doors album I bought. It included the song Heroine by Lou Reed. That song brought me to another realm thanks to the movie. Long live Jim.

    Oliver is obsessed with Viet Nam. Jim's dad basically helped start Viet Nam. (He was an admiral. Tad more than being in the navy) He helped make the Gulf of Tonkin incident happen. I feel he probably felt Jim was a cia plant. As much of the 60s "hippy culture" was. He wasn't going to show him in a positive light.

    The lies about about how Jim Died in his home was Not true, Jim did NOT die in his own bathtub or any bathtub, he was at the Circus night club with Pam and a couple other friends, and he went into the bathroom Drunk of course, around 2:am to shoot heroin,, and died of overdose, Sam Bernett, founder of the night club found him and immediately told Pam, and she told the 2 idiots who sold the heroin to Jim that was at the nightclub as well and they panicked, knowing if the police arrived there because of this, because of Jims fame an huge investigation would be launched and lead back to the guys who sold him the Heroin, so the two heroin dealers worked it out with Pam to take his body to his Paris home and put him in the bathtub with hot water in to to confuse the time of death, and make it look like he died in his home not the nightclub. Now they was a couple witnesses to this but they was too scared to open their mouth about it because them 2 dealers who sold Jim the Heroin was very scary guys and would have done retaliated to whom ever open their mouth.| Also the 2 guys who sold Jim the Heroin told pam make sure you call the private doctor to sign off on his death Not the police and the doctor will take are of everything, also make sure you immediately have him buried to prevent the system from ordering an autopsy. And this is exactly what happen, he was buried so fast that even his friends and family didn't even know about his death until he was buried, Ray Manzarek and the other band members found out about Jims death after Jim was Buried. There is no statue of limitations on unintentional manslaughter, which is what the 2 dealers who sold him the heroin could be charged with. Pam could have been as well but died only a couple years after Jim died she was a Heroin addict as well, and that is how she died.. After all The 2 dealers know it would be over for them if they was to be charged with being responsable of Jims death because of selling Jim Morrison Heroin, not only criminally responsable but a huge civil suit, After all Jim Morrison talents as a singer was a fortune and the 2 dealers could have been sued for a huge loss, after all Jim Morrison was worth millions in his talents.. How ever at the time he died, Jim Morrison didn't have all the much money as many think, he was only worth a bit over $400,000.00 back then that was a lot of money but he did make more then what he was worth but spent much of it on many things. The Truth is And i can say this confidently that this is how this happen take my word for it. I know this first hand..

    Hated the script; hated Oliver Stone for having made it; saw it in the movie theater back in 1991; and was terribly bored by it. It’s a shame Oliver stone was given the green light to make the film because Val Kilmer was a good actor and if he’d been giving a different script with different direction on how to portray Jim, we would have had a better film. As it is, it’s just a giant piece of crap!!
