I stayed in room 32 at La Cienaga in 1981...I think how it looks now is awful. Back then, it was just a room - obviously, to me it was more! - no graffiti, no plaque, nothing. Jim could've just stepped out. I stayed there 3 days. Wonderful. Glad I got to see it before it was trashed.

@@RockessentialTim My friend Mitch " The Masochist" a character in the movie " Big Wednesay" owns the first house on the northern corner right at beach level. He bought the place in 1965 for $25K. Over the years converting the attic into a separate upstairs apartment he could occupy while he rents out the floor level. I visited him over 10 years ago and he was getting 10 grand a month rent. And was just offered 7 million for the place. I advised him to sell it and get out of America as he reported that the BLM riots in nearby Santa Monica were horrific. Totally trashed the place. While not a Morrison residence, Ray Manzarek's Grandparents owned a small store on Rosecrans in Manhattan Beach known by the locals as The Little Store. We hopped into the microbus and drove to the Ellison. On arrival we were taken to the rooftop to a glass room that was a lookout toward the ocean. This was the office that booked you in and took your payment. The whole building was operating as a backpackers lodge. It was $20 a night to stay. I booked in for two weeks. I was a Doors fan then but at the time, had no idea fate would take me to where Jim and Pam stayed. The office staff told me that Jim used to live there and suggested I go see the movie, which had just been released. It was a great time. Thank you for this. I was fortunate to be born in L.A. and have lived here most of my life. I knew most of these sites, but not all. I've been to The Whisky a bunch of times, but had no idea The London Fog was just a few buildings down.
I've driven past the Love Street house and Canyon Market hundreds of times, because they are both right off Laurel Canyon. It's always fun to see the Morrison/Curson house when a Doors song happens to be playing in my car. Some time ago, there was a fire at the house (fan related?), and part had to be rebuilt. The building can be identified by the large bell on top. If you visit L.A., it's one of the easier Doors spots to get to and it's on the way to Mulholland Drive. You can also check out The Canyon Market, "where the creatures meet." They painted it groovy, to capitalize on it's history, but inside it's just a little market/liquor store.
If you check out some of these sites in person, be aware that a lot of times there is no indication that anything interesting ever happened there, because the spot has been torn down and rebuilt a few times.

@@RockessentialTim Yeah he lived in an apartment block within walking distance of the Rainbow. Feels like I met him, even though I never did, just due to the extensive interviews he used to give. Saw him live with Motorhead three times, twice at small venues which was awesome. Actually, on the same trip, we drove from Seattle down to Mountainview to see Pixies and then the next night Creedence in Napa Valley. Luckily my mate who did all the driving is friends with the lead singer, so we ended up spending time with the band, having a few beers, getting backstage and then later on in the evening having their hotel room for the night as they rolled onto their next venues. Really nice down to earth guys, and of course music legends.
