      Ray was the de facto leader of The Doors.
      Jim was neither stable enough or possessed interrelation abilities for that role.
      John Densmore, a mere kid when he joined The Doors, initially looked to Jim
      as a big brother, but gradually came to resent and scorn Jim's behavior.
      Robby Krieger, also just a kid when he joined The Doors, had an old soul,
      and Jim deeply respected him, both as a man and an artist.
      Morrison tried to be on his best behavior around Robby,
      with varied success.

    Jim said the Morrison Hotel looks like a place "to start a religion, or commit murder." Jim was a master of extremes. He gave it all he had to the Doors music, and by age 26 was completely burnt out. He wanted to quit, and even told the band that he felt he was going to have a nervous breakdown. But the band talked him into staying on and make more money. Predictably, it only got worse for the burnt out Jim.

I sometimes say that I drank bourbon with a few cigarettes and listened to some doors songs on youtube. Then its "whats for dinner". well it is porterhouse steak on the grill, salad, asparagus, baked potatoes and baked pears with butter and maple syrup. Other than my liver and lungs its all good.

    You can stand in the cover of "Strange Days" in New York City----Go to the southwest corner of 36th St and 3rd Avenue, and walk west up 36th toward Lexington Ave. Before you go 50 steps, look left and you'll see a gated little alley called Sniffen Court, that's it. A famous 1800s sculptor lived there and you can match all its features to the album cover. It was also the home of crazy Prof. Irwin Corey!

    Jim Morrison looks depressed in lots of the photos

    • @D35611
      @D35611 7 років тому +40

      Some of the greatest writers and poets in history were depressed if not suicidal, and some of them felt that you needed to be living on the skids, in order to experience true sorrow. Morrison knew this, and his actions in so many areas of his life made that clear. Most likely, he felt that too much fame and success, could suppress his creativity. Clearly, being remembered as a poet, was more important to him, than being remembered as a rock star.

    • @justmadeit2
      @justmadeit2 7 років тому +25

      D35611 I've never understood wanting to be remembered anyway, as we won't be here to remember it. It's more an ego thing when we are alive. I've heard it said Jim subscribed to the theory that the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom, while in reality it often leads to an early death, or to mental health issues. I like the music of the Doors and Jim had a cool image, but now that I'm a little bit older I can see in general that he was a person without much peace of mind

    In 2011 I moved to Portland, OR and another Morrison Hotel on Morrison Street just East of the Morrison Bridge. As an Uber Driver, I drove up and down Morrison Street a lot in 2015 and kept seeing that window, which looked very similar to the one on the album cover. A few months later, the building changed and the Morrison Hotel was no longer there.

      They weren't at the wrong location. Just look up Morrison Hotel Los Angeles California on Google Maps. There's a Google caption this says "Morrison Hotel Permanently Closed". Click on the street view photo and it'll put you right in front of that window that Henry Diltz talks about. The hotel is on the corner of Pico and Hope, just as Ray says in the film. Just not a working hotel anymore. That window is all boarded up. Henry Diltz is a famous photographer, by the way, took many rock album photos back in the day.

      The Morrison Hotel location is correct and still standing, but he got the Hard Rock Cafe locale wrong. Its still there and its the place shown right here.. 300 east 5th street. Area looked better back in the 60's than it does now.
      Best place to get the "Doors" feel in L.A is at Jim's Place at the Alta Cienega Motel by Santa Monica Blvd. Stood a weekend there 2 years ago. Fucking awesome but weird. Can almost feel the guys presence there.

    Rooms $2.50. So this was about 50 years ago. A room today let’s say $100. A room in 50 years.....$4000 if rate of inflation is similar. Whoa!

    I'm wondering if the Hard Rock Cafe franchise became successful because of its appearance on the back of Morrison Hotel.

    I think Henry Ditlz may be mistaken on the location of the Hard Rock Cafe. From my understanding the building still exists and is now the Green Apple Market.

      Correct the landlord is the same since 1980 & it has never been demolished. They were across the street and were mistaken in this video 😊

    Morrison Hotel and LA Woman.. 2 best records, bluesy and kinda dark. Worst record was Soft Parade, although there were a couple of good songs in there ;)
