    WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in 1969, the regiment emerged from the merger of the Royal Horse Guards ("the Blues") and the Royal Dragoons ("the Royals"), units with roots in the mid-17th century. Serving globally, it had roles in Northern Ireland, the Cold War in West Germany, the Falklands War, UN missions in Bosnia, and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. HOW LONG DO THE ROYAL GUARDS AND ROYAL HORSES WORK?
After the officer checks them at 4:00 p.m., everyone, whether they're on horseback or not, will be done for the day. Two guards on horses watch the entrance to Horse Guards on Whitehall from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They switch out every hour.
    WHY THEY SLAP THE HORSE?
The purpose of guards slapping their horses when dismounting is to ensure the horse is prepared for the change in weight distribution as the guard descends from the horse.
The first one on the neck is essential to tell the horse, "good job." The second slap is to inform the horse that there is an excessive displacement of weight on one side at dismount.

@@ayabokti161 They love to protest near the horses and royal guard. What do they expect London to do about Sudan's problem? One protest came right through the courtyard where the royal guards stand in the archways.
Looks like alot of tourists joined the march for something to do.

How about instead of abusing these soldiers, many of whom have seen active service for their country lost comrades !! and show them the respect they deserve!! they are not actors putting on a show which you may find in other Castles around the UK for the tourist!! these men are highly trained British soldiers who have a long battle history of defending the 🇬🇧. I don't think I would be so lenient with anyone upsetting my men or horses. Why do these marches always come past Horse guards upsetting the poor horses, thankfully they were taken in quickly, I though that horse guards was automatically informed of demonstrations passing there, they used to get the horses and guards in well in advance, either way quick thinking today.
