WHO ARE THEY?

HOW LONG DO THE ROYAL GUARDS AND ROYAL HORSES WORK?
After the officer checks them at 4:00 p.m., everyone, whether they're on horseback or not, will be done for the day. Two guards on horses watch the entrance to Horse Guards on Whitehall from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They switch out every hour.
WHY THEY SLAP THE HORSE?
The purpose of guards slapping their horses when dismounting is to ensure the horse is prepared for the change in weight distribution as the guard descends from the horse.
The first one on the neck is essential to tell the horse, "good job." The second slap is to inform the horse that there is an excessive displacement of weight on one side at dismount.

It's so unfair in the wee soul. It's great that they've bought their wee lad the whole Kings Guard uniform, he clearly is proud to wear it. They should be paying attention to the wee dog, they don't even speak to him, he's invisible, tired, probably hungry and thirsty too 😢

The little boy has a great mom. Every weekend she takes her children on a different adventure. How many little girls dress up as princesses & go to Disneyland. I once took my grandson to a museum in his Superman costume.
The first time I saw a little boy in guards uniform, it was enchanting and the senior officers were great with him Now its stupid and done for the parents not the children. Just so they can get their five minutes of fame on Tik Tok and You Tube.

How many hours a day are the horses & horsemen guarding the front gate?
Changing of The King’s Life Guard at 11:00am (Monday - Friday)
The Duty Officer's Inspection at 1100 on Saturdays and 1000 on Sundays
Two mounted sentries guard the entrance to Horse Guards on Whitehall from 10:00am until 4:00pm. These are changed every hour.
Dismounted inspection of the guard at 4:00pm daily.

It's an absurd trend born out of social media platforms, they get the kid to salute or whatever and expect the trooper or Guardsman to come to attention and film it all. It has happened for years sporadically but it is getting really old now. I reckon public duties at Horse guards must be the worst gig they can pull , they must dread it.
The child has autism and is welcomed by the guards. He loves them. Corporal of Horse has even posed with him. Give him a break.🙄
