Thank you so much!! Bought this unit for $200 today and when I got home it instantly had the E8 code. Fixed it in about 25 minutes. Hats off to you!

I realize this is a 2 year old video, but just wanted to say thanks! Just got two units working top notch again. Even cut the shroud off one of them, and wouldn't have thought to do that without your help. You're the best!

I don't have no chamber but I do have living room dining room area that was being cooled by a unit that now reads E8. We have or had (recently chopped down) a Cottonwood but I didn't think much of that until E8 entered my life. Most of the videos (this one included) mention that only a year had passed before issues arose. I naively thought that my unit was not clogged cause we bought it last year and this is the second season. It, however, wasn't cooling or working as it once did and with the recent heat wave we got the E8. Did I mention our unit is now displaying E8. For those who don't know this is the units way of saying, "I need a hot bath cause I am a crusty old crab." Anyway I used your method (waterless) and even used a hacksaw blade to remove that section of plastic to get to the fins that were covered. Mine were nasty and completely covered. Scrapped gently with a wire brush and used the vacuum cleaner with narrow extension to remove the dust and gunk I was picking off. Put it all back together and working like a charm. You would think the MFGs would make cleaning these puppies a bit easier. Lastly, I am not sure I would call yourself lazy. it took a lot of work removing that outer shell the way you did. I would lean towards: artist, genius, and maybe UA-cam sensation to describe how you are. Thanks for the help and tips to get my unit clean and ready to cool.

Thanks, man. You saved me the cost of a new a/c. GE was just 3 years old when got the E8 code. Your cut along the plastic was more surgical than mine, but the gunk on the fins looked identical. Stiff toothbrush on a dowel pin did the trick--couldn't get anything bigger in there.

The cottonwood is a big problem on our central air. I planted boxwoods to help filter as well as putting a screen material around the unit. That is easier to clean.

Thank you much, I will Certainly try this. It's like these a/c's know when to act up, I have Zero tolerance for heat, and my a/c isn't old enough to start trippin' the 2nd day of summer. Thank you much, please be well🤲🏾🌻.

Just started happening to mine yesterday 👍 Thought maybe it was something with the board or something but after finding your video, figured I'd give it a shot? Not like it would hurt much...if it didnt work, I would have to buy a new one anyways? But worked like a charm and its cooling 10 times better than it was in the recent months

Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200. This is the way. I just did this to my Frigidaire 28k BTU air conditioner. It was a royal pain removing it from the wall but as soon as I saw the condition of the rear coil? Yeah. It needed cleaned. After cleaning & re-install, no more 'E8' error codes. Kudos!

Thank you for the help, I live on the third floor of my building so taking it out my window and finding a place to clean it down stairs was going to be my very last option, so I tried the unplug and turn off 5 min option which of course didn’t work, so one day and a $300 chiropractor bill later your video did the trick thanks 😂

Wow! This is actually a GREAT DIY video for ANY wondow unit.
    THANKS for posting.
Really , when cutting of the outside housing cover , if done carefully , after cleaning the condenser fins , you should be able to simply re-install the housing on the unit , and even screw it back down with 3-4 self tapping screws.

Thanks for your very detailed, helpful video. BUT, my GE AC is siliconed in the window. It was 108 today and 110 2 days ago. Is the ONLY way into the unit, from behind, having to cut all of that metal outside housing and all of the inside apart??

My GE is now showing that E8 after 3yrs of over 100 digit temp in Vegas, and it's already showing this in June😢 I'm going to try your method before buying another one which has to cost the same or less than a repairman visit thanks!

May sound like a dumb question but…is this from the inside portion of the window unit or the outside? Not sure my unit gives me access to the coils quite as easily as yours does. Don’t really want to take it apart

When the error code came up, did anyone's ac repeatedly beep and all button lights turn on then turn off?

The code showed up on a brand new unit for me. There isn’t any dirt or crude covering it. The condenser coil over heats and shuts down and have to reset it constantly. Kind of a pain in the ass to deal with.
