Please comment below if you have had this issue or know how to go about repairing my GE Appliance... I have settled the replacement with GE and I am somewhat satisfied that it will be replaced but feel it is wasteful that I am having a hard time finding a way to replace what I believe is an electrical or computer error. die to costs of shipping, etc... they will pay retail price of a replacement unit. I am left with the old unit to recycle, donate, repair, burn, store, take to a dump.... but I want to be responsible, I don't want to be wasteful...*** (8/7/2020 description update)
appliance worked fine night before. had a power outage or surge. when power was restored, reset house breakers and ac started up but shut off seconds later and continues to repeat this process when plugs in. the surge protector did not trip on the ac, but I did reset that just in case. when operating, you can hold the power button to turn it on and off but continues to have a red light and beeps continuously. my assumption is there is a blown fuse or sensor or circuit and this should be an easy fix...
currently playing the call tag game with GE Appliance at 1800 626 2000
no one seems to be able to help, all representatives have transfered me and provided me with the same phone numbers....

    Thanks for this simple solution.
Added switch between black and other cables - works fine.
cables are labeled on the inner circuit board (same order as on this video):
    black - +5V
    brown - GND (ground)
    white - COMP (compressor)
grey - HRA / WING/UV (no idea what is this for)
    purple - BEEP (beeper)
    blue - LOW (fan speed)
    green - MED (fan speed)
    yellow - HIGH (fan speed)
orange - ROOM (no idea what is this for)
red - PIPE (no idea what is this for)
connecting black cable to others you can do more than just constant ON with max fan speed

Ours did the same thing. If you go to your local hardware store and pick up a digital wall thermostat you can hook it up and have full control. Hook black and red wire together into the R. Yellow in the W and white into the G on the thermostat. Then mount it on the wall beside the window and you’re good to go.

You can't even buy a control board for this model unit at GE! On their homepage, they brag about how 'green' they are, then build $450, 45 pound unit that has flawed engineering, and can not be repaired when it fails! Straight to the dump in most cases. When i located the chip board, like in the video, the wires to be cut, were easily located, but i want to say, there is 2 sets of wires, that are covered. It just takes a little looking into these 2 groups to locate the rainbow of colored wires.

You can't even buy a control board for this model unit at GE! On their homepage, they brag about how 'green' they are, then build $450, 45 pound unit that has flawed engineering, and can not be repaired when it fails! Straight to the dump in most cases. Way to go GE !! I will not buy any product from them again. I will also look up the replacement model's parts list BEFORE I buy one to make sure I can buy parts for it when needed.

I bought this model from Lowes: GE 450 Sq. Window Air Conditioner (115-Volt; 10000-BTU) ENERGY STAR Item #840564 Model #AHC10LY. We've had it barely 2 years. Just put it back in the window yesterday and it's giving me the beeping 88s. I called GE and they cannot help at all with troubleshooting. They told me it is not cost effective to repair, and that I should just go buy a new one for another $379. These should last 5-10 years if not longer. Not 2 summers. I was pissed...until I found your video. I'm going to try this and let you know if it works. Fingers crossed it will. From all the comments, I am confident it will work. Thanks for video. A 2.5 year old GE ahc12azw1 purchased from lowes just blew the 88 code, all lights on unit lit up and beeping. cleaned filters, etc, but had same behavior as in video. This fix worked. No visible damage to board. Only run this when working in garage, perhaps reason it lasted a little longer than 1 year warranty. Discontinued model, no parts available. Will compare control unit board to those available for later model. But, I only ran ac on high in past, so it is now a bit easier to use.

So glad you put this out there. Kind of similar situation here with the power surge. Except I bought the GE AKLK24AAG1 which is the 24,000BTU ac unit that is 220 volts. Bought in July 2021.Ran great that summer.
Used it 3 days in April. Then electricity flashed off then back on. Hurried and cut it off bc that's not good for the compressor to cut off/on quickly. Waited 15 minutes and cut back on. It runs but when it calls for the compressor to kick on it never will. Was told that it was more than likely the capacitor so bought new one exactly like the original and still compressor will never kick on. Don't know what could be the problem. The fan runs one very mode just something isn't letting the compressor kick on. Paid
$700 plus tax but gambled on the warranty and didn't spend another $100 for a extra year warranty. So I got a GE - POS that l got 4 months use out of . Sitting on a work bench in my living room and weighs close to 150 pounds. So mad at GE and my electric company. Neither will take fault but hint that its my fault for not buying the extended warranty. Any references to try and find out the source of the problem. It still looks brand new. Already temp. in the mid 90s with humidity at 95% down here in Louisiana.. Would love to buy whatever parts I need to fix this GE to at least feel like I got screwed again buying the wrong brand. Last time I bought a $700 LG with a $100 extended warranty and lasted 2 and a half years thanks to everything we can buy is 100% China made junk.

    @haunce Рік тому +7

    UPGRAYED:
Go ahead and order a BYT-3A016 thermostat. You can then set temps and give yourself some control options kinda' even better than factory. The wires in vid are as follows. Black= +5V and is essentially your main wire. Pink="room?", just make sure pink stays with black.White=Compressor , and Yellow,Green,Blue are High,Medium,Low respectively. Find and wire 110V(make sure you order the 110V version) to the thermostat. On the relay out, Black and Pink on one side, White on the other. then choose High,Med,Low(Yel,Gr,Blue) and put it on the Black-Pink side for always on, and with the white for only on when compressor is on (maybe a bit of a heavy startup surge load but not a big deal usually). Thermostat temp sensor is on a long cord , so you can read the room, not just at the unit. Note the the thermostat needs to be changed to "Cooling Mode" via the buttons, and is a real good idea to change the "hysteresis"...setting "d" (for deviation). Chang from 1 to 7 or so. This way the room temp swings 7 degrees before turning on the compressor. keeping it 1 would be hard on the compressor with a lot of starting up. 'you're welcome.

Output Relay:(screws 1 and 2) Black and Pink and **Green under screw 1, White under screw 2. **I chose to have fan on medium and always on thus green is with black under 1... you might want fan only when compressor on then you could put under 1 with white.

@@MsTwichi yes this is accurate. Same thing they said except I needed to wait for an email that they would send me then reply to that email with my model and serial numbers and receipt attached. Then they never even send the flipping email! Had a 400 dollar unit work for 3 weeks and got the run around so bad on a replacement ge is a joke

Depending where you live... More humid areas may see frost or condensation after prolonged use. I keep it in when I am in the room and I haven't used for more than a couple hours at a time... Usually gets too cold for me

My issue is similar with the death chirp but I don’t get the 88 code. This is my third GE unit in a row that I’ve had to get rid of after a year. After EXACTLY a year. Happens in June every year. So what mine does is beep and light up, then sometimes it will do that second beep that shuts it off. Sometimes it won’t and just the screen will light up and then after a minute dims like it usually does. It’s hit or miss. Sometimes it will do this several times a day, sometimes it will go a whole week without doing it. I keep buying this AC because it’s the only one anyone has around here that’s 8000 BTU! I am going insane with this!

Poor design. I think there are enough folks for class actions

Wow nice fix, you would think with as many people that had this problem it would be a factory recall or RMA for the part ?!?!?!?
