Broke nursing student, 3 kids, dad is away at work and our AC broke. This worked like a charm!! Thank you so much for saving us!
It’s evident you’ve heard this countless times so I hope you don’t mind me being repetitive. Thank you for this tutorial! It worked like a charm. If you haven’t already, I’d love for you to take a moment to digest how you’ve remedied an unexpected financial hardship for countless people by sharing your knowledge! You deserve your flowers 💐
It took me about 20 minutes to install it on my own. As long as you can lift it out the box and up into position you’re good. I did have to break the box to get it out as it was a snug fit. I followed the installation video on you tube which was a big help. I added this to support central air in my house that was struggling upstairs because of my house design. Lovely unit. Very quiet ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_hHgTlzH3uk31Fe2RVS3xEbXHGaN_z5T and looks sharp. Had it in a couple of weeks and so far so good. It’s cooling a bedroom about 25ft X 15 no problem at all.
God bless you!!! You have literally saved my family from over heating. I spent $500 on the air conditioner last year. But I can’t find the receipt so they won’t cover it under the warranty. I was scared to cut wires but figured it was either risk it or throw it away. I owe you a huge thank you!!!❤❤
Single mom here, you just saved me some much anticipated financial stress!!!! Thank you for sharing! Followed instructions and now have air!!
Same here
Mine literally just died as well, I did the trick you showed us & it works like a charm again. I think if I got 2.5yrs out of this unit it was alot. I will NEVER AGAIN, buy another GE AC! The old addage, fool me once applies. Anyway I'm not buying another ac until next summer, anyone have any thoughts on a GOOD, REPUTABLE, brand? One that will last longer than 2yrs lol. And it certainly does NOT need, to have wifi. At the time I bought it, it was all they seemed to have. Thank You in advance & stay safe, health, and above all else, Happy!
Dude, I just did this and it freaking worked!!! Very impressed! Thank you for all the leg work.
Just found this AC unit on the curb outside my apartment complex, super clean and new looking but I assumed it was broken somehow. The issue you described is exactly what’s happening to this unit, so I’m going to try out this solution and hopefully have a nice free AC unit!! Thank you!
**EDIT** it WORKED!! Thank you so very much. I’m no electrician and your instructions were very easy to follow. I had one AC unit for a 2 bedroom apartment, so now I will be able to enjoy the summer temps with this second repaired unit. THANK YOU again
We’re do we sign for a class action lawsuit?
For real. I had mine for only 7 months before this went bad
@@jdmkos973Had 3 of them in 3 years. Breaks down every June the same way. Wish someone else had an 8000 BTU so I wouldn’t have to buy this one anymore.
I just had two AKLK14AA GE units go bad at the same time these cost us $600 each. Same issue controller board going crazy. Not to mention the amount of mold these things get all over the styrofoam. I will NEVER buy another GE product after this fiasco.Horrible products, horrible support. I was going to purchase new controller boards but guess what!? They don't even sell them anywhere! I talked to support and they said "it's not cost effective to sell these for us". HAHAHA what a joke. Anyways I'm going to try this soloution when I get home... but it's nto going to be cost effective for us since the unit will never be able to turn off by itself... so now our electric bill will be through the roof. Can't control temps... I really really wish we could sue them for this.
I’ll sign
@@jdmkos973mine went bad in 2 months
Just did this for my Wife's Shop A/C and got it working again! Thank you So Much!
Thank you so much! My 8000 BTU was two months over warranty as soon as I pulled the circuit board out it was covered in corrosion you nailed it! Thank you for saving me money!
101 here in Texas and the AC went out at 8pm. Got this done in less than 15 minutes and it's working great. Thanks a lot.
We had ours a little over a year and it went one monther over the warenty date before giving out. This trick was a blessing because we cant afford a new window unit and its a hot alabama july. Its definitely not the first thing you want to do, but its a god sent trick if you have to have it. Remember. If the wife is hot and unhappy, no one is happy
I'm a disabled widow and you just saved me $%00.00. Thank you for this! I managed to do it! Took me a long time, but I have cold air blowing in my kitchen! God bless you.
Go to the place you originally bought it from, buy another one, the the next day just return the old 1 with the new reciept, get your money refunded and a new ac.
You have no idea how much I valued this tutorial.
I arrived from work on a Friday, the air conditioner with error 88 and no possibility of receiving a technician until Saturday of next week. I live in the Caribbean, where air conditioning is a necessity and not a luxury.
Thanks to your instructions, I managed to get it working and I will have a nice week, until a AC tecnician repairs it properly.
Thanks and blessings!
Hopefully by cutting those wires, they don't tell you that you voided out the warranty :/
Real talk. From the Virgin Islands I just did this 😂
I have to work with GE equipment at a hospital and they design things to "break" so you pay them to come and fix them and I always avoid GE for this reason, however 1 summer we had to buy a new AC unit and the GE one was the only one available and 2-3 years later it does this and I knew there had to be a work around because the fan and condenser would start, it was just some "safety" feature stopping it. Thank you so much for sharing!!! If any1 else reads this, for the future if you have an AC that wont go colder than what your aloud to set it, there is a wire going to the front of the grill when you look under the filter and if you move the end of that wire, its a sensor and try to shove it out the window, boom it will always run cold XD.
Thank you 😊
after 2 months of fighting with warrenty this method worked perfectly!!! thank you so much for this dys vid!
Thank you soo much im a single mom who really didn’t know what to do I live in Florida I was so stressed about my unit doing that your video really saved my life thank you again
Thank you from 8500 ft in Colorado, recent heat wave, beep beep 88 message, filter blink blink. Pull out that electronic board, tie those four wires together, bypass all the frills and presto: Cool Air. Thanks again I tried other ideas, and your did it!
Recent "heat wave" at 8500 in CO, 80°? 🤣
BEWARE- This will make your AC work but you will have no indication on temp, mode, speed, nor Wi-Fi. Because of this do a process of elimination on cutting the wires to find the fault, one wire at a time. Or at least, before doing this save your settings before cutting all the wires mentioned in this video bc you definitely can’t change them after. Thank you for posting this! I now have a working AC blowing cold air on a hot day in SoCal.
Thank you sir for creating this video. My model AHTK08AAW1 purchased new on July 2022 just fried on me this week.
All other troubleshooting steps I took from reading online articles did not resolve the 'beep 88 reboot' problem.
Thanks to you, I attempted the same steps you mentioned here and now my AC is running like a champ again with cold air blowing in. It's strange though, when I opened the unit and got to the board, I didn't see any signs of water damage or corrosion. It was apparently clean so I was worried that maybe something else is wrong with my unit but I made the decision and went for it. Glad I did.
The only downside is losing literally any control functions/settings such as mode, temperature, fan, wifi etc etc..
However with today's economy and rising costs, it's an easy decision to make to get it running than to schedule and pay for an out of warranty technician to service it, or purchasing an entire new unit.
The only thing I'm unsure of now is what temperature it is running at. Like is there a default temp? Guess I'll never know but it's definitely running cold.
Also saves having to throw out an entire AC unit that still has a functional compressor and fan. All of the internal components work.
Thanks again!!
I just want to thank you so much for this video and for saving me $300-$400. I was so close to trashing this thing and swearing off GE products forever. Ill probably never buy GE again, but my AC works!!!!!!! Thanks again for the great tutorial!
Just want to say this fix works on AHC08LYW2 as well!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Thank you for this
Thank you so much. After power outage the unit would not start. Your method worked! 😊
Lawdddd. Thank you so much. It works. Save me some money at the moment. Not sure how long it will last but it's blowing cold air. 😊😊
Just want to say thank you so much I just did this to my air conditioner that I thought was done for and it immediately turned on and started blowing cold air much needed it is so hot in our house with temps reaching uper 90s today and through the next week. Thank you again 🙏🙌🙌🙌🙌 Praise you!
This literally worked, i have a different model but its all the same. I was about to buy another one. i just saved almost 400! Thank you so much!!! Amazing something so simple to fix.
Thank god for UA-cam!! ❤
Can confirm. I just did this to my GEWindow unit after having the same panel light glitching. I have no remaining warranty nor the funds to repair my unit. So, I thought, what's the worst that could happen??? Thanks! You saved us.
My guy!!! I couldn’t believe my 7 month old ac went nuts. I did this and I’m in my cold room! Thank you!!!!😂❤
You saved our lives this summer thank you !!!!
This saved me today. The unit randomly stopped, and this quick fix got me going. Thanks!!
Well my air conditioner is now working you have no idea how thankful I am for this video ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ you are the man 💯
Thanks this helped relieve the heat untill the new board arrived. I paid $39 bucks and installed in 15min. I also insulated around cover for extra moisture barrier.
where did you order it from?
Can you share where did you order your replacement from? Thanks
Can you show us how you replaced the board?
It worked no one wanted to work on the AC. Thanks for the video working well so far. Took me less than 10 mins.
Good job thanks you sure saved me!! It showed 108* in my car when I pulled up at home and walk in to ac not on!! I’m doing this now!! Checked for a new board $250 not for a 12 year old ac that I can buy a new ac for $500
Thank you so much for your video about GE window air conditioner, even though my model was alittle different numbers than yours I hooked it up like you said and it started right up running on high and very cold God bless you my brother and I Thank my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for you ,I had all but given up on my unit ever working again then my son told me to check on u tube and there you was
I was able to repair by replacing the UI Board. Had to order replacement part for $40ish from GE website. Ordered from GE directly to make sure the part was right. Came with new UI Board including plastic shell and wires to connect. Just had to connect the other end of the rainbow wire into the unit itself by unscrewing the inner unit from the shell to get access to the area. Kinda PITA, was a small space. Also sucks to have to spend money on a part after only owning the AC for two years. But better than $600+ for a new 18,000 BTU AC.
please post the link
If you bought a new board from GE... I'd say... insulate the new board if moisture caused the problem to being with on the old board so that this problem won't repeat itself again on you. From just plain Jane foam or silica packets if you've got that laying around. I'm sure there's many ways to do it. Cheers
POST THE LINK
Thank you so very much for sharing this video! It saved me from 30 minutes plus on the phone, stress and money!!
Omg this worked for me literally I just did my AC and it's getting cold but it will take a while to cool all the way down but air is blowing cold and it's no temp control but I'm thankful
Thank you!!!
****EDIT****
You just saved me a lot of money.
Works with QHNG08AAW1 HAIER THANK U BOSS!!! Let’s goooooo ❤
Ty bud I am on a boat and this saved us Alabama heat is no joke ty again
Bro... thabks a lot for the info..you saved us from throw the A/C to the trash
My AC went out completely! Nothing on the screen.
So I wasn't sure if it would work for me
Well praise the Lord our God it worked like a charm.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us all!
Model AHK12LZW1 a 110V 12,000 BTU GE Wi-Fi w/remote
God is always good.
Thanks so much for this my ac just turned off and showing the 88 error .. instead of me paying for another unit this helps a lot
Absolutely the only way to make it work just fixed mine
Thank you!! This worked like a charm and will get us through the rest of summer. Appreciate you!
Worked on model AHL10LZQ1 until part arrived. Ordered the replacement board CQC13134092543, part no. WJ26X23879 from GE. To replace, remove the screws holding the cover on the sides and top rear corners, pull the sides away from the bottom, then lift the cover directly up. Remove one or two screws to take the small door to reach the secondary circuit board, disconnect the gray wire connecting your old board and replace.
You are awesome, saved me $700 mine was a 25k btu ge and had only gotten 2 summers out of it when this happened.
Well DAMN!!!!!! A tutorial that actually works.... Thanks Mr. Man.... We just had a storm come threw.. Feeling that cool air now boss... Thx again
Wow when I called GE they made it sound like this was a rare occurrence. Now I see so many others. They know this is an issue, it's ridiculous we all go caught and stuck with this issue smh. Thanks Great video!!!
I'll never buy another GE again! They know good & well that there are issues with this unit! That's why they try to rip you off by forcing you to buy an extended warranty. Lesson learned here though. Best of luck with yours.
You are awesome!! We have ac again!!! Dude you rule!!
Just did it. Works great
Im down in New Orleans heat. I just did mine today. Thank you
Class action lawsuit should really be a thing for these..we just bought one a week ago, same issue occuring. We only run it at night since no one is home during the day. Will work if we keep it on medium speed and ECO mode only :/ beyond pissed..
I agree 1 million % with you, but sadly they'll just say "I'm sorry Mr./Mrs. Smith, but had you purchased the $500 extended warranty, that we sent you in your e-mail at least 10x's, you wouldn't have had a problem." Maybe if I were rich I would've gone for it lol.
All you had to do is give the control board 3 or 4 chops going down the front panel. YES… IT WORKS!!!
Do I need to have a fire extinguisher in the room incase or is is safe..this method wont start a fire? Just curious
I just had the same problem, just stopped working, light blinking, only would start and run for 2 seconds.. THIS WORKS!!!!! I did mine today, awsome. One thing ,I had trouble getting front cover off, has three tabs on the top,I couldn't get them to let go so they broke off. Just put a piece of tape on the cover on top and screws on side and its fine... note ,I use geeni cameras ,lights and wall plugs .this all works from my phone. I plugged the cord into a geeni wall outlet plug ,now I can turn the ac unit on and off with my phone. It works great!! You can get the outlet plug ins at harbor freight.
Ps.. I had this unit for 3 years, had bought the extended warranty for 69 dollars, still had one year left. The warranty place just sent me a gift card to lowes for 600 bucks...and I fixed it for free thanks to this video...
After only 2 months I'm just having the same issues with my TCL Smart wifi AC. We've had a couple power surges lately off the tropical storm. I live in NW Alabama so I understand the heat like you. Mine started reading the 88 with all the lights on too. I couldn't turn mine off without unplugging it tho. I'm assuming my issue is the same as yours tho. And the TCL site says they're not open again til Monday and of course it's Saturday night. Luckily it's supposed to be 78 tomorrow with more rain. It is suppose to have a 1 year warranty but I have to contact them. Walmart only replaces heat/cooling products within 30 days. This is why I dislike so much technology bc so much of it is so fragile and made so chincy. I never even used my remote or Wi-Fi on it but this one is the only type they had available in mid June so I had to or do without. Anyway appreciate the solution video.
You my friend are a genius if you figured this out,,thanks so much..
thank you more than i can express- thank you kindly
Can confirm it works it just automatically puts it on high cool too
it worked, so far so good. Thanks so much !
Thank you!! now I know the true definition of dongle
Part number -- I think -- is WJ26X23879. I've ordered one and will update my comment if it's in-stock, arrives, etc.
Thanks for posting the part number. I found one for 70 bucks. Ouch.
I ordered the same part number.
Did it end up fixing the problem…?
Any update??
I can confirm this worked for me
It's alive!!!!!!! Ty for the knowledge.
Is anyone else having trouble getting the front face of the unit back on? Or, does the taped wire end have to go into that black box for it to fit properly?
i am having the same problem i did everything but the AC is off
This worked exceedingly, thank you so much for posting
Thanks million that fixed my a/c in 10mins
I greatly appreciate the help. It was spot on and cooling.
Brand new AC , board fails in two summers. This did get me back online.
Have you tried using a Outlet thermostat you plug it into the outlet and then you plug the air conditioner into it
Thank you! I just ordered mine! Excellent!!! Thanks again for this comment!
It works, but for how long, any freezing up issues, over heating? Just wondering because i didn't see anyone posted comments of longevity.. thank you. 😊
Greatly appreciated i did mines step by step and it worked
I have the ahk12lzw1 model which has a similar board. I cut the purple wire between black and white wire and the unit powered on. However, the controls do not work but it's blowing cold.
Why not Just install a room thermostat to control temperature and on/off? Should be able to use the same wires you mentioned.
I was really excited to try this. I had a ge repair person come out but they said it couldn't be fixed. So I thought why not give this a try. But after doing this, my compressor doesn't run continuously. It runs for 9 minutes, then turns off for 15 minutes so any cooling that happened goes away. Very sad this didn't work
Upload a video of the board you chopped out. Show what kind of damage it has.
Just had a power surge and it fried the control board so I followed your instructions in your video and it works. I contacted GE and was told they don't supply the control board, can you believe that? Any way I had an extended warranty and I am getting a replacement unit (not GE for sure) in a few days. Thank you again for your instructional video.
Nice work around. A country boy can survive.
Thank you so much this worked for me I feel so grateful for your video thank you for sharing
Very helpful video. Thank you very much
Thank you it worked today
Mine has a different situation? (It’s a GE) I only have four wires coming from unit to motherboard. (Red, white, yellow, brown)
Then five wires leave motherboard and connect to a wifi chip (black, white, red, green, maroon/brown) So confused as to how to deal with this.
I tried this exactly with the same AC and it didn’t turn on. The only difference is that I didn’t use electrical tape. Would that make a difference?
Don't ever splice wires and plug something in without electrical tape. You run a chance of fire electrocution, or ruining the unit.
Hey thank for the help it actually works now😁
Thanks for sharing this
Thank you it was easy and fast 🎉
My MAN !! BIG Appreciation! we had thunderstorms for days in a row. I live in a 20 unit loft and the power went out for a few.. KNOCKING out the central air system and my personal air conditioner. wow.. Like You Said " THANK YOU GOD..! worked like you said it would..! I usually don't send comments..!! I'll keep it short..! You The Man.. Bless & Safe.
This works well except when you can’t control the temp to shut off and on, the unit freezes up like every hour and you have to unplug and wait for it to thaw out.
My ac unit isn’t turning on. The plug green light is on. And the reset and test button works, but that’s it. Help
same thing happen to i need help
Thanks for the video. Like many others i had the same problem and your video was a life saver. I am curious if you have had any problems with the unit since you did this fix??
Thank you!
Works but after an hour the condenser frosts over and blocks the air from blowing. Can we get around that?
Same!
GE AHY08LZW1 -I got to my 3rd Summer b4 I had to bypass the circuit board. But you can use a smart plug and Alexa to turn on and Off
Why not just buy a new board. Second is all the videos they show them cutting the wires. Do the wires connect with a plug or all them soldered in so if I were to just buy a new board. Will the connection just lift off and plug back in ?
We have had ours for two years tho so far . No clue the issue. Just stopped cooling all Together . I got a cover for the outside and zip tie the straps so it cannot be taken or messed with by passersby. What stinks is , where I live with my kid , it is so noisy outside . The neighbors are full of ignorance among other things I won’t mention . So I use it year round . (Mind when we are not home I shut it off ). It’s on fan in winter . Blocks out all the noise perfectly. Summer time is cool air . Until this year about a month ago it stopped working . I have cleaned it . With the proper tools. Coil cleaners , foaming cleaner ect . I guess I can’t do this because if I do, I will not be able to turn off the cool air setting . And it will be no use in winter . Guess I’ll have to find another solution. If I can’t I just might result to this . It’s too hot . 😢
How do I stop it from freezing after the bypass it the front panel freezes at night
Thank you so much for the video
Unfortunately this didn't work for the AKLK14AAG1 14,000 BTU unit. The connector only has 4 wires Yellow, Red, Purple, and White. I tried splicing them all together and the unit will not come on at all. I also tried just splicing Red, White, Yellow together and nothing. I'm guessing the absence of the black wire is the reason. Anyone know if there's a way I might get this to work? I'd appreciate it as it's about to get really hot and both of my units are down at the same time! I noticed the board had a lot of moisture on it when I took it out and a lot of rusted solder joints.
