Im a Black street dude fresh outta federal prison and this song was stuck in my head the whole 7 years I was incarcerated.. I fuckin love this song!! I saw the video the night before I went to prison.. This is a vintage rock and roll video.. I just found it tonight by typing the lyrics.. Music is universal!!
I always cry at the part where he says "when there's a doubt within your mind, cause you're thinking all the time, framing right into wrongs' i feel that as someone who struggles with anxiety.
Listened to this song when I was 15, now I am 25, I am back 10 years later, as a whole new person haha. Just goes to show how good this song is and how it has impacted me during my teen years. I was a clueless, lost, unmotivated teen back then, super depressed, this song taught me to live my life to the fullest. I am so glad I am doing so much better and happier :)
Same!! This song was my life’s theme song. Every time I experienced a huge difficulty that changed the person I was, this would always bring me back to my true self. And I still get goosebumps from it!
The song was shot in one single take from one run through of the song, like a live concert. It was originally going to be one single long SHOT followed by some shorter shots at the end, but we decided to break it up to help transition between our set pieces, because we had a lot of ground to cover. I was one of the camera operators and we practiced about 40 takes over a 2 day period and then the last take was the live one. Personally, one of my favorite takes was one of the 40 earlier ones :)
i was totally thinking the same. This song would make me miss my ex so bad when i was in my 20s. Late 30s now with a family, now its just a great song, and the guitar solos rock
''If you feel just like a tourist, in the city you were born it; it's time to go'' If it just was that easy... Can't wait for the day I got enough money to do so.

'I Believe' is your new outlook! Love and peace :)
This song is really amazing. It's more than an expression. It's a full-on CALL TO ACTION to be good to yourself, and permit yourself to move on past something.

I think he meant if you remove the word 'indie' they are just among the greatest bands of all time, and i have to agree, many of their songs make me cry, many of their songs make me laugh, I've been listening to them for about 15 years now, and i saw them live for the first time about 2 weeks ago in Amsterdam, it was the best thing i've ever seen live, it was an outdoor concert in the middle of the woods. it was amazing.
I’m coming back to this song after almost 10 years. This was one of my favorites during my junior and senior years of high school and I was in love with the lyrics and really every single aspect of this song. I’m listening to it now in my mid 20’s, full of constant anxiety and working a dead end job in the same city I’ve spent my entire life in. This song is even more relatable than it was when I was 16 wanting to leave home.
The moment I heard the lyrics " if you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born Then it's time to go", I was hooked. Ever since, this song has become one of the most personal songs to me, because this is exactly how I felt like, even in my own city. I was jaded, everything felt like a routine, and I just wanted to get out. I remember being able to really understand this when I was on a boat in Thailand, sailing from one island to the other, I then realized that the world is so vast and mysterious. I then knew I wanted to just go out there and discover it.
Christine I know what you mean. I lived in Vietnam and it changed my life. For once I felt accepted. It’s tough not fitting into a culture that you’re told is yours but you know it’s not deep down, so you feel like there’s something wrong with you. Rejected, forgotten, unloved, and broken - people love doing that to others.
I think music critics often tend to make things more complicated than they actually are in order to detach themselves from the mass and establish as a cultural elite. The thing is, when you have a pop rock song that manages to strike such a perfect balance between accessible and articulate, you have a masterpiece. Things are really that simple sometimes
This song came on in a grocery store one day and like a jackass I assumed it was 21 Pilots. I began searching forever and was relieved to have finally found it. And even more relieved that it was by these guys and not the other one.
I understand unbecoming a 21 pilots fan, but here we have death cab and two pictures painted by one and the same hand. There are things to take away from them all. It's a shock to the system to realize the exquisite puns that have have been in our ears from childhood. Music forever, death cab a sonic doorway ( one of many) to seeing the world with your eyes closed.
I love this song, and I know I may be biased because I like Death Cab, but my life also feels like it's in this limbo of a place and all I want to do is listen to this song!
This song inspired me to go abroad and live the life I always wanted for one year.I'm typing those comment for the ones who are terrified to take risks for the things they want.Don't be afraid guys.It is like first step to water. You will get used to it and the magic of the life will be shown to you.Don't be afrad
Aint never forget first time when I heard this song during college while fighting anxiety and low self-esteem. And then I decided to tear off all tags on me and go for my own trips
Lyrics This fire grows higher This fire grows higher This fire grows higher This fire grows higherWhen there's a burning in your heart An endless yearning in your heart Build it bigger than the sun Let it grow, let it grow When there's a burning in your heart Don't be alarmed This fire grows higherWhen there's a doubt within your mind Because you're thinking all the time Framing rights into wrongs Move along, move along When there's a doubt within your mindWhen there's a burning in your heart And you think it'll burst apart Or there's nothing to feel Save the tears, save the tears When there's a burning in your heart And if you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born Then it's time to go And define your destination There's so many different places to call home Because when you find yourself the villain in the story you have written It's plain to see That sometimes the best intentions are in need of redemptions Would you agree? If so please show me This fire grows higher When there's a burning in your heart When there's a burning in your heart This fire grows higher
I do remember when this first came out and it was as fun as everyone says! Bands like this are hard to come by now a days. Now they’re stuck underground!! Bring back bands!
There's still a lot of great bands around, but Pop culture and shows like American Idol have molested the creative and original part of music into the shadows.
@@jasonrowland2458 I also add the music industry to that, I felt like when I was younger, more music was creative, sure some bands sounded like another, but the lyrics didn't sound the same. I might be one of many who thinks music in the 70's and especially 80's was the best, the 90's was okay.
Honestly one of the better videos I've ever seen, all that stuff about all their albums, the fact that the ideas in this song hit home for me, the one take aspect. Ben went hard with the intro, Walla and Jason go so hard at 3:14, Harmer does the walk at 0:49. Death Cab thanks for going hard again.
This one really resonates with me on all levels. Timeless. Fantastic lyrics and just a great, great song. Just as good today as when it originally came out, if not better, and more relevant. Yeah, this hits pretty close to home for me in a big way.
The song played as my life fell apart and I was left to console my conscience with a shattered dream. The melody led me to a new path, without memory, without regret.
Pranav Dave agreed. I'm not a huge deathcab fan (Transatlanticism is a masterpiece that I think is impossible for them to come close to) but this really is one of their finest moments. I think it gets overlooked because the album it's on isn't very good.
I guess it depends what ur into. Musically? Meh, its alright. If u look for a particular phrase or lyrics as a whole that resonate with u in songs and this does it for u, then i understand that. It doesn't do much for me lyrically, not to say its bad. But that mixed with the meh-ness of it musically doesnt do it for me. Only song i find i like of death cab for cutie is soul meets body, it has feeling behind it not only in the words but the music and melody itself
This song, this probably means more to me than any song. When it came out I was done. I lost everything, my mom pasted and I lost my job I had for 10 yrs and had to go back home to nothing, everyone was gone. I had my ticket out but the guy stole my money. Literally the next fucking day.. I met the girl I'm with today. That was god or something giving me a raft. I was done, it was over. This came out and was playing and it just gave me so much hope. Just hearing it again make me tear up. I needed it so bad. Thanks cab
This song brings back such great memories. It used to come on in the morning every day at the same time, I would almost wait for it. I'm just trying to remember a person that I lost yesterday. We used to listen to this song every morning..
When there's a burning in your heart An endless fury in your heart Build it bigger than the sun Let it grow Let it grow And there's a burning in your heart Don't be alarmed When there's a doubt in your mind 'Cause you think it all the time Framin' rights into wrongs Move along Move along When there's a doubt within your mind When there's a burning in your heart And you think it'll burst apart Oh, there's nothing to fear Save the tears Save the tears When there's a burning in your heart And if you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born Then, it's time to go And you find your destination with so many different places to call home 'Cause when you find yourself a villain, In the story you have written It's plain to see That sometimes the best intentions Are in need of redemption Would you agree If so, please show me
I used to listen to this song constantly when I first heard it years ago. time passed (as it tends to do) and I forgot all about it. I heard it on the radio randomly the other day.. it's hard to describe the memories and the waves of nostalgia it gave me. incredible.
This song means so much more to me other than a breakup. It’s about being the YOU whose inside and becoming that person that you’re yearning to be. It’s about liberations... to ME!
Upon hearing DCFC for the first time I pondered which category of rock they fall into. I tried to think of a band they'd compare to. I quickly realized...there's no other band that falls into THEIR category. So underrated.
I just saw you comment on Jack Kay’s songs before I came and listened to this. And I see you comment on tons of other artists that I listen to. We have a very similar taste in this art we call music my friend. Pretty cool.
Still remember when I heard this song on my first year of high school, and I just rediscovered it when I’m in my first year of college! Some things are destined to be together, thanks for this video and the nostalgia trip ❤️
I miss home ..and I know I can never go back. I moved a half a world away from everyone and everything I knew so I could just live..I know I did the right thing, this much I know, but I am a tourist now in a place I now call home.
i literally don't think i could love this song more. literally a masterpiece. hard to find quality bands like these anymore with so much shit out there. true quality.
Havent heard this song in years. Was Walking threw a random convenience store and this song comes across the overhead radio…… it brings me to my safe place . I missed this song so much and i need it in my life
These guys are so understated and under rated like this is the best music video i have seen in a LONG time and i watch all the big peoples music videos. This is kinda cool i just clicked on it to see if it was good and it was the best thing ever!
Have you ever fell in love with a song like this and even if you listen to it over and over you can't satify your need to love it more and you just feel somewhere else while listening to it? Well thats what I feel when i listen to this song hahaha
4:09 till 4:15 The feelings i get when i see this picture,.see them together on stage, side by side,.i mean the chemistry between the musicians,.everybody has its role,.they work together in harmony,.for one big result,.everybody got a own task,.the machinery crestes a firework of sound,.
Remember watching this when they streamed it live. I was hooked then, the song continues to be one of my favourites from the past ten years. And the drums ARE amazing on this; the recording, the patterns and the playing style. This song pulls off being uplifting whilst having fairly depressing lyrics with a glint of hope, and I think that's the icing on the cake. A very clever song, brilliantly executed.

The drummer is super underrated
Yes, yes I can appreciate the drums...it drives the song...
Yup the beat is everything
This is one of my favorite songs to play along with. His style is so precise and propulsive.

Ariel Martin Holy shit. Impressive. Saw these guys last night in Portland, OR. They were phenomenal live.
+Hans Lain Man, I'm jealous...haven't seen them since 08. It's been to long.
+Ariel Martin :: Have to disagree, sorry, the opening is a long take but there are many cuts after the first part.
+dose999 read the description. one take doesnt mean changing cameras, it means stopping the action, which did not happen
and it is even better when you watched it in streaming

Imho, Ben Gibbard is one of the greatest songwriters of all time, and Death Cab is one of the greatest indie bands of all time.
true.
Gibbard is a true Genius. The arrangements of his songs, both in DCab & his other projects are quantimum layered with goodness & musical attention to the meanings. There are notes that are crucially not played, that dance, as well as the perfect counterpoint harmony notes arriving just at the right time. A true wizard, a true star. Plus his music & words make me feel like dancing & contemplating the mandalas of life at the same time. Very yummy. Hitting replay again!

This song means so much more to me other than a breakup. It’s about being the YOU whose inside and becoming that person that you’re yearning to be. It’s about liberations... to ME!
This..
Fire..
Grows..
Higher.
jamie fisher part kills me!
@@wrnchhead76 yea dude, so many feelings.
I love the lyrics to this song.
The fire in my heart has burnt me to a crisp and I really need to move.
Live 105 will never die
Upon hearing DCFC for the first time I pondered which category of rock they fall into. I tried to think of a band they'd compare to. I quickly realized...there's no other band that falls into THEIR category. So underrated.
They're an indie band, but they have a fairly unique sound and stand out, they're not generic
Still listening in 2019! Love this song!
Amazingly this video was shot on the first take
this song made me a better person
All the same here.
I just saw you comment on Jack Kay’s songs before I came and listened to this. And I see you comment on tons of other artists that I listen to. We have a very similar taste in this art we call music my friend. Pretty cool.
Me too
@@pablomunoz8088 me too
😌💛
Ben Gibbard is so lyrically gifted. DCFC forever!!
Starts out like Jon Anderson, then becomes very reminiscent of early eighties electronica, catchy, nice.
thanks for having a non vevo channel
This is just lyrically, musically and visually amazing. Another great thing to come from DeathCab
Never get tired of DCFC ❤ somehow gives me hope
Such pure talent. Love this band.
WHY HAVE I ONLY NOW DISCOVERED THIS BAND?!! They're amazing.
+Draco Malfoy DRACO?? WTF?????
+Ayesha Uddin Yes only now discovered you
This song I can LISTEN to any time AND ART WORK IS THE BEST
Still remember when I heard this song on my first year of high school, and I just rediscovered it when I’m in my first year of college! Some things are destined to be together, thanks for this video and the nostalgia trip ❤️
Hearing it the first time in 2011, I started crying tears of joy. Real talk here now, guys.
Mrius86 😎😎😎
I miss home ..and I know I can never go back. I moved a half a world away from everyone and everything I knew so I could just live..I know I did the right thing, this much I know, but I am a tourist now in a place I now call home.
I got dumped with this song playing in the background but I love it anyway.
Emotional perfectection.
Explain?
James Jackson when you find a better person, play this song to complete the circle
Troy Gardner Haha will do!
Troy Gardner AGREED!! Works every time. 💓✨🎶
i literally don't think i could love this song more. literally a masterpiece. hard to find quality bands like these anymore with so much shit out there. true quality.
Havent heard this song in years. Was Walking threw a random convenience store and this song comes across the overhead radio…… it brings me to my safe place . I missed this song so much and i need it in my life
their suits are gonna be so dope at parties
These guys are so understated and under rated like this is the best music video i have seen in a LONG time and i watch all the big peoples music videos. This is kinda cool i just clicked on it to see if it was good and it was the best thing ever!
you just said the same thing....
both of those words are synonyms for underrated.....
Ummmm pretty sure they’re not “underrated” 🤔🤔 underrated is the most overrated word used in YT comment section.
This song is very special coz it was release on my 22nd birthday.. N m still listening my swwet memory.. Thankuuuuuuu
Have you ever fell in love with a song like this and even if you listen to it over and over you can't satify your need to love it more and you just feel somewhere else while listening to it? Well thats what I feel when i listen to this song hahaha

***** Haha your welcome, but trust me, I had to Google that one! I'm not even sure what it was that I was mumbling before that! Lol
A very clever song, brilliantly executed.
in love. absolutely amazing. talented!
I just can't stop listening to it :)
Great song love the drum arrangement!!!!
I feel like a tourist in my country but I cant leave because of corona virus, but I can listen to this song and move along 💛
