A few years back i was stuck in my home town in GA, ended up losing where I was staying, the girl I was seeing and my job in the span of two days. This song was a beacon of light for me through so many years of depression. Through music, understanding psychology, the practice of meditation, and daily exercise I have finally begun to defeat my depression. Thank you too all of the music like this that kept me fighting till I found the tools to combat the hell of ones mind. Keep fighting for a better tomorrow it is there you have to seize it take control yourself no one can do it for you. It isn't easy and it is an every day moment to moment fight but it is worth it and can be done. Float on my friends.
I heard this song for the first time 19 years ago, i saw you all perform it live for the first time tonight. This song has dragged me out of so many dark moments. It brought a tear to my eyes singing it along with you.. thank you.
Was in military school my sophomore year. I could go play drums after class for a few minutes. Walked in one day to find 3 other cadets jamming this song like it was their job. Sounded just like the album without the lyrics. Fell in love with this song right then
Remember driving around for hours and hours in the indiana countryside with my first love to this song. I remember how in love we were and how beautiful that was. Being 16 and having no where to be and nothing to be worried about. The endless sea of grass. I'd just have my hand on her thigh while we drove forever. Those are some of the moments I cherish most in this life. We dated for 2 years and she found someone else. Spent a lot of time hating her for that. I'm 21 now and I'm just starting to feel a little better about it. I couldn't listen to this song for so long, and now I'm going through some serious issues with my current partner. This song really reminds me of the impermanence of life. Those fleeting, beautiful moments that sometimes get overshadowed by the inevitable periods of pain and suffering. It's taken me a long time to come to realize my life is not just one long, cruel joke. Those moments have value. Even if they don't always last. I miss being 16 in that endless sea of grass. It'll be okay though, anyway.
I’ve been struggling with emotional pain for the past couple months and doing things to myself that nobody should do. Yesterday my girlfriend called me and told me that one of my best friends died. He killed himself. This was one of our favorite songs, and he introduced it to me. I wish he had listened to the message but it feels good to hear it again and I think that what he did made me realize that I need help. If you read this, which probably nobody will, thanks for your time, have a great day, if you feel that feeling please tell someone, and God bless you.
My best friend killed himself too. I know the pain firsthand. You'll learn to cope with this dude, it doesn't get easier, but you'll come to terms with it and realize that life is still beautiful. And that we will all float on no matter what happens.
I remember my beloved son Jaron who past away in 2005 at age 26 playing this song quite a bit. So Float On is very special for me. Plus it's great catchy tune. So thanks Modest Mouse!
To anybody that needs it... Well done. You’re still here and still making efforts and that counts for a lot. We all have our bad times, and we may even want to completely give up. Stress and anxiety are dangerous if left alone, so reach out if you need to. Stay strong everybody, we’ll all float on alright.
May your mom rest in power! Hope shes finding herself in some crazy adventures on the other side over there! I miss playing this song in Guitar Hero World Tour with my family and complete instrument peripherals. Sometimes you don’t know how valuable a moment is until it’s over.
Fun fact: This aesthetic is based in the XX century art movement known as Italian Futurism, or just Futurism; another famous music video that uses this style is Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out.
Haven’t heard or thought of this song in years, lost my grandma this weekend, burying her in the morning. This was the song I needed to hear right now, but now back to Jerry
The singer/songwriter wrote this not long after two close friends of his passed away. This song is more of a hopefully reassurance as opposed to a genuine sense of contentment.
The beginning is a stage, symbolic for life being one large play. The sheep are symbolic for not only what is happening consistently in the world (hu-men killing animals) but also represents us as humanity. We are the sheep being fed to the wolves. Although there is nothing wrong with the sheep, that is just the scenario they have been placed under or over (to overstand what is going on rather than understand) They are singing or mouthing we'll all float on signifying their reassurance, then the man takes the sheep and kills them. However we will all float on and everything will be ok. In a way the sheep do not have free will to decide when they die or what happens to them, they are being decided on by the man however it's ironic because the man also does not choose and is part of the system which will eventually do the same to him. It's only sad or bad if you look at it as that way. You could also see it as a beautiful thing because being alive only means you have time to experience. When you die everything comes full circle and there is no time to be had or wasted. Everyone is the way they always were. And that's why we will all float on alright. We will all make it to the end of the tunnel and it's a beautiful thing if you allow yourself to experience it in that way.
First time I ever saw this was when I was 14, woke up at like 5 am, randomly turned on the TV and it was on VHS, this was playing on their morning line up and I've loved it ever since. 12 years later, here we are again.
Al Walton Lol, i was gonna make up some comment about your videos, but when i looked at them i was just so confused about how random they were, ive got nothing to say.
I love how this song isn't just some happy song, and the video even shows that off with the unnerving energy. This song isn't a reassurance that things will get better; it's a desperate plea for things to get better, almost to the point of delusion, and I love it. It's not about knowing things will get better; it's about hoping things get better, and that regardless of what happens everyone will make it to the end. It's almost so morbid that it's comforting, and it's why I absolutely adore this song.
one of the main delusions in life is that it will never end, all the popular western religions are built around shoring up the delusion that you're somehow going to not stop existing when you die. i think the ego always wants to drift into this fantasy, but you can break through into beautiful moments of pure joy meditating on the fact that in time we will all lose everything we love, get sick, and die. there is no point being upset when these moments are all we ever have
It can also mean that bad stuff will happen and things won't necessarily get better but we'll still be okay despite it a.k.a. it's not the end of the world
Not necessarily a delusion. When you are depressed you always assume that things will never ever get better, even though you know for a fact that tragedies don’t last for ever and one manages to either accept or just forget and keep moving on, so it’s a nice reminder to have modest mouse telling us life does get better. I would say it’s a fact that people usually assume tragedies will last longer than what they actually end up lasting. So it’s good to remind yourself that after some time you’ll float on alright, even though we know we might fall again It is also beneficial to delude yourself and pretend that life always will get better after a tragedies since it gives you strength to fight and move on.
I love how this song opens you up and let you express yourself, because at the end of the day we’re all just tiny specs of cells floating together in the universe. I’ve lost so many loved ones this past year but every time I listen to this song, it grounds me to what really matters in life. I hope you all are okay or at least trying to be okay 🧡
Then you can keep that to yourself, because there are people who enjoy this genre and songs like this are comforting. Thats like me saying that all rock music sucking suck and should burn in hell. That would be my opinion, and you wouldn't agree with me. You're an adult act like one, and shut your trap. Negativity is a burden to everyone.
This song will always be one of my favorites. Being disabled (mentally and physically) I feel like I can never do things right. But when I feel like things are going to hell, I listen to this song and it makes me feel better.
This has definitely been there for me. Through the really bad stuff like my wife dying, and through the really good stuff, like finding another good woman years later.
this is the happiest i have ever been and i am here to celebrate. i feel great for the first time in a long time and i have a lot to look forward to. good luck to u all :)
I wept like a baby when I saw you perform this in Santa Fe last night...I was with my son, and it was the first big tune he mastered on the drums. I listened to him practice for months! Wonderful show. Thank you for the music & the message.
This is the song that introduced me to Modest Mouse back in 2004 when I was only 14 and going through a terrible home life, drug addicted mom, etc. I would go in my room and drown everything out with this and later their other albums. 14 years later I'm now 28 and I still come to this song when I'm feeling down and stressed. They've been one of my favorite bands for half my life and I couldn't be more grateful for their music!
"Don't worry even if things end up a bit Too heavy we'll all float on alright" This little bit makes the song even better. Isaac isn't always so optimistic, but when he is it's so genuine and golden.
the way i describe this song to people is by saying: "it's like that one part of a song that everyone agrees is the best part. but it's like the whole song."
+John Kaitlyn Sometimes i will purposely let my bowls release in public just so people will look at me. Because they say i'm ugly. But i can't help it. My mother was on drugs and drank heavily. And i had to wear my sister's clothes to school because we were too poor and now i'm like this can someone please be my friend

have you considered modest mouth?
tftm that’s not nothing . I remember being a kid when this came out and I loved watching mtv early in the morning just to watch this video. This is my first time listening to this since then
Especially when Shazam doesn't know it... still waiting to find one of those songs. Someday it'll roll around

This song is criminally underrated.

It's only criminally good.

It is one of the few catchy tune songs I have kept liking for a long time. When I first heard it I assumed I would start to not like it after hearing it many times, and it would become an ear worm. I can admit, I was wrong.
💜2024 And this gem continues to shine 💖💎🔥

Float On By Modest Mouse has a musically carefree and refreshing vibe that appears to be taking in life with a come what may attitude in a calm, metaphoric cool as a cucumber type of way.
I always tear up with this song. It's one of the best songs for a bad day.
yes
Lmao
Heard this song on the radio many years ago and just today, I rediscovered this beautiful song
So did I :)
+MyBebopBlues Is your avatar ace-boy?
Ryoh Actually it's a young Roger
+MyBebopBlues idk why but this song (in my opinion) really suit your avatar. Like a theme or something for when he's on his brink of death, reminiscing all his past and think.. "...and we'll all float on okay"
This shot stinks!
Botched my own suicide, found myself surrounded by family that loves me. Everything still hurts, I still have those thoughts sometimes but I'm trying to change. This song definitely helps.
Good luck, you got a future ahead
U aight.
You got this brother
Don’t go down that dark hole, always going to be things trying to drag you down, enjoy the little things in life, tough times produce tough people 😉

IT'S BEEN NINETEEN YEARS 😱
This song hits so much harder in 25'
Was in military school my sophomore year. I could go play drums after class for a few minutes. Walked in one day to find 3 other cadets jamming this song like it was their job. Sounded just like the album without the lyrics. Fell in love with this song right then

You were great in Boogie Nights
The therapist I always need advice from 🙏
Just keep floating on my man, it will get better
damn man, this hit me hard. dont worry, we'll all float on
I feel you bro, but we all float on
Grew up in Indiana so I can relate to the endless sea of grass , float on my brother

This has helped me survive the last 4 years.🎉
I’ve been struggling with emotional pain for the past couple months and doing things to myself that nobody should do.
God bless you brother, hang in there and keep floatin on.
Keep fighting comrade! Live your life for your friend.
⚛️🌈🎼
My best friend killed himself too. I know the pain firsthand. You'll learn to cope with this dude, it doesn't get easier, but you'll come to terms with it and realize that life is still beautiful. And that we will all float on no matter what happens.

I remember my beloved son Jaron who past away in 2005 at age 26 playing this song quite a bit. So Float On is very special for me. Plus it's great catchy tune. So thanks Modest Mouse!
This song is special to so many people. Theres just something about it that makes people happy and sad at the same time.
I’m sorry I lost my dad 7 months ago when I was 16 it hurts so much
Lost my almost-son-in-law at 25 yo. It was 11 yrs ago and I still come back and listen to this song he loved. Something very special about it to many.
😥
Godspeed for Jaron...Peace and prayers for you and yours.
To anybody that needs it... Well done. You’re still here and still making efforts and that counts for a lot. We all have our bad times, and we may even want to completely give up. Stress and anxiety are dangerous if left alone, so reach out if you need to. Stay strong everybody, we’ll all float on alright.
Nothing can hold us down, float on ❤️💕💛📣🦋
Wow thanks man I really needed to hear this . God bless 🙏
I felt like you were speaking directly to me, sometimes I feel like we’re all living the same lives. Thank you 💙

May your mom rest in power! Hope shes finding herself in some crazy adventures on the other side over there! I lost my father almost a year ago, I wish u nun but positive healing and abundant energy 💯💞 bless
As well, your mom must've been a real special woman if this was her favourite song, idk u, nor your mother or where you live, what u look like,

I miss playing this song in Guitar Hero World Tour with my family and complete instrument peripherals. Sometimes you don’t know how valuable a moment is until it’s over.
❤
Yesss!!!
I played it on that as well as Rock Band 2
Heart felt for real
My heart! Bless you! ❤
Fun fact: This aesthetic is based in the XX century art movement known as Italian Futurism, or just Futurism; another famous music video that uses this style is Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out.
That must be why I get those two songs confused all the time. It's not because I'm a dolt.
Guitar riff also sounds somewhat similar...
Funfact i listened to that right before i listened to this
I loved both music videos as a kid! I think this fascinating art style definitely explains it.
The two songs were released like a month apart. Franz Ferdinand was Jan 2004, Modest Mouse was Feb 2004.
I get tears every time. Just sums humanity up so well. a perfect song
Haven’t heard or thought of this song in years, lost my grandma this weekend, burying her in the morning. This was the song I needed to hear right now, but now back to Jerry

Att 54 too young is out and with over 50,000 bands in the world it is hard not to miss some.
I love this band
I love that feeling
Whitechapel m8
There’s an underlying sadness to this song and I can’t quite understand it, but i know it’s there
The singer/songwriter wrote this not long after two close friends of his passed away. This song is more of a hopefully reassurance as opposed to a genuine sense of contentment.
This song is about when life gets you down it will get better eventually
To me it meant to be optimistic in life. I listen to it a lot when I'm feeling depressed and rather out of hope.
lizylu it is about death, a very metaphorical song.
2025 still with you!!
Samesies!!!!!!!!
First time I ever saw this was when I was 14, woke up at like 5 am, randomly turned on the TV and it was on VHS, this was playing on their morning line up and I've loved it ever since. 12 years later, here we are again.
thats a run on sentence if i've ever seen one.

Al Walton So?
Al Walton Hipsters like shit music and wear oversized plastic framed glasses, we do neither.
Al Walton why are you on here to talk shit. You must be a closet hipster. I mean you did listen to the song to get to the comments
Al Walton Lol, i was gonna make up some comment about your videos, but when i looked at them i was just so confused about how random they were, ive got nothing to say.
***** I found this entire conversation ironic considering the song's meaning.
If you were in college during the mid 2000's this song was getting played
Urbex Zack high school for me lol
It's still being played lol
+theledstone I have never heard this song, where did you here it??
Whenever I feel deep trauma or going through some rough stuff, I always end up back here.
Yup right here
I love how this song isn't just some happy song, and the video even shows that off with the unnerving energy.
Truth
one of the main delusions in life is that it will never end, all the popular western religions are built around shoring up the delusion that you're somehow going to not stop existing when you die. i think the ego always wants to drift into this fantasy, but you can break through into beautiful moments of pure joy meditating on the fact that in time we will all lose everything we love, get sick, and die. there is no point being upset when these moments are all we ever have
It can also mean that bad stuff will happen and things won't necessarily get better but we'll still be okay despite it a.k.a. it's not the end of the world
Not necessarily a delusion.
So it’s good to remind yourself that after some time you’ll float on alright, even though we know we might fall again
It is also beneficial to delude yourself and pretend that life always will get better after a tragedies since it gives you strength to fight and move on.
It’s all us humans can do . Help each other
I just randomly wanted to hear this song again
You have good taste ❤️

bucky468 why are you so pretentious? :/ just let people enjoy what they want
bucky468 everyone has their opinion, but we don't need to hear yours
Then you can keep that to yourself, because there are people who enjoy this genre and songs like this are comforting. Thats like me saying that all rock music sucking suck and should burn in hell. That would be my opinion, and you wouldn't agree with me. You're an adult act like one, and shut your trap. Negativity is a burden to everyone.
This song will always be one of my favorites. Being disabled (mentally and physically) I feel like I can never do things right. But when I feel like things are going to hell, I listen to this song and it makes me feel better.

Shit may or may not have saved my life this morning
This is the song that introduced me to Modest Mouse back in 2004 when I was only 14 and going through a terrible home life, drug addicted mom, etc. I would go in my room and drown everything out with this and later their other albums. 14 years later I'm now 28 and I still come to this song when I'm feeling down and stressed. They've been one of my favorite bands for half my life and I couldn't be more grateful for their music!

"Don't worry even if things end up a bit

This little bit makes the song even better. Isaac isn't always so optimistic, but when he is it's so genuine and golden.
