What an excellent character study. It's always great insight to hear a twin talk about twin characters. As an author who has twin characters, its priceless information. Fantastic video.
I loved this video. The twins are my favorite characters and I want nothing but the best for them. It's nice to know that others adore them. I had someone say that Alphinaud wouldn't miss Alisaie if she died. I was so angry. Anyways, keep it up! Your voice is so soothing.
A fantastic study. However, you missed my favorite part of the twins. Or rather Alphinaud mostly. We know a lot of pointless details about him. Like how he took up art classes to impress women. His fear of ghosts, his inability to swim or his poor grasp of finances due to being a sheltered son of a rich family. Did I say pointless? Sorry. All of these become plot points.
I love this kind of content, because I think FFXIV has a lot of lore and depth to it, and a lot of things that are layered upon references. Even the Music has layers upon layers of meaning.
agreed! I recommend FF14 t my friends whenever i can, not just because of it being an mmo we can all play together, but because the story, characters and music r fantastic
7:50 oh god i did not miss this voice for alphy Edit: just kept on watching and ye I agree. I can hear the arrogance/self-importance in that voice haha
Such a wonderful and well done video, I very much enjoyed it! The twins are incredible characters, and I've loved watching their growth throughout the game, and you've done an amazing job of highlighting that. I'm quite fond of twins - I have two younger sisters that are, indeed, twins - and have always found twin characters to be very fascinating. When well written, they can be some of the most interesting types of characters out there. And these two are certainly well written! As was this video and its narration. Brilliant work, truly!
This was really great! I wish there more videos analyzing the story and characters rather than just lore, considering the story is such a large part of the experience.
this was such a delightful video i actually kinda teared up a bit over it! the twins are easily my favorites. the constant trope of "found family" that they cling to i think is what makes them so much more interesting than the other characters, because we watch them develop these bonds with other characters and how what they learn from each other holds throughout the entire journey. no encounter is ever too small to impact their growth, as well as the twins' influence on others (looking at you, estinien)
I ran it unsynced with some friends. At the end, I was just pissed that I didn't end up playing it sooner. There was so much effort with the voiced cutscenes (even if it was the ARR VA's). I wouldn't have even known Louisoix was the narrator at the beginning of ARR or see that Flames of Truth cutscene.
This was a very enjoyable video to watch. Alphy and Alisaie are some of my favorite characters in this game and I learned some new thing about them in this video (mostly coil stuff because I can't get past turn 9). Keep up the good work. I'll be looking forward to other analysis videos of other FFXIV charcters if you chose to make more of these, be they other Scions, prominent characters or villains.
I was hooked from two minutes in. I really like when people show the twins love, because I've seen a lot of negative stuff about them on the OF in the last year. Especially Alisaie, and she is pretty much my favorite Scion bar none. Very cool to learn the meaning inherent in their names. Little stuff like that always shines so well when someone brings it to light. I felt really close to Alisaie, because she delved into the Binding Coil raid with me. When ARR was current, that felt like a big secret threat, and she had her shadowy network of well paid hands working through the Grand Companies. I miss that aspect of the twins, because I don't believe we've seen it since. They are fabulously rich and privileged, and it used to really really show. And perhaps that's why in the middle of your video I had a little eyebrow furrow. You drew some parallels between the twins and Fordola/Yotsuyu. It was at once, both refreshing and vexing. Refreshing because I hadn't read, heard, or seen someone make that comparison before. Vexing because to me that comparison is one of radically different things. The twins lead very privileged lives. Of course they have the luxury of leading noble lives. Yotsuyu and Fordola lead lives off the sweat of their brows. They didn't have the option to be noble. They're practically polar opposites. I know it's a video on the twins, but the more I ruminate on it, the more the idea strikes me as contrived. I find a more apt, common, and compelling comparison being Fordola to Lyse and Hien to Yotsuyu. You've got a girl raised with occupation being all she knows against a girl with scant memories prior to the occupation who grew up with her elder's ideals elsewhere as a refugee. Then Hien and Yotsuyu you have the crown's son of the system that made Yotsuyu who she is, up against the traitorous woman who had every violation inflicted on her by her own people under said crown. If you're going to do more analytical videos, then that is my wholehearted recommendation. *ahem* Sorry if that sounded harsh. I didn't mean it to be. I just don't think your video gained a ton from it. Also, trust me, I loved your video and your voice. I watched the entirety. I would gladly do so again, and I will gladly leave you more verbose comments rambling ever onward. I'm a passionate sort for FFXIV.
It didn’t sound harsh! I wanted to invite discussion on the video, and you’ve clearly thought about it a lot! I agree with all your thoughts too, actually, but as the video was about the twins, I wanted to point out that there were comparisons you could also make there too, particularly birth and circumstance. Stormblood may not be everyone’s favourite expansion storywise, but I think it did a really good job of showing us some complex characters and raised some moral quandaries. I could have explained that more clearly, so consider you advice taken :) Thank you for watching!
@@TheExtendedMetaphor Aww, shucks haha. I have thought about the game a lot. Probably more than I should, really. 15:10 I have to disagree here. Though Tataru doesn't have the echo, she might as well have powers way beyond it. What she does behind the scenes, even Matoya's witchcraft pales in comparison.
I agree! Tataru has some great moments in the expansions. She just hadn’t revealed so much of her skill at the time of that clip. This was also a direct comparison to the primal-slaying WoL :)
Wow, I really loved this. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. This was definitely worth watching from start to finish. I would love to watch more story or character analysis from you. Well done. I can’t even imagine how much time and effort it took to write this script and to capture the footage. Thank you. I loved it. You’re fantastic.
This was marvellous. I love the twins equally, I can’t chose between them. It would be like picking a favourite child. This was also a very fun trip through memory lane. I’m of the opinion that the writers did an absolutely terrific job! Alphinaud and Alisae have grown and matured and they are stronger for the hardships they have endured. I can’t imagine FF14 without them, nor do I want to! Thank you for your hard work. I found myself agreeing with you analysis on every point! Will subscribe for sure! I’m looking forward to Endwalker and what you will make of it. Until then, stay safe. ❤️
A very good examination of the twins, I’ve made an alt character just to reply the story and refresh my memory on character arcs etc. I’ll admit I’ve grown more tolerant of the twins considering what they’ve went through. Also on another note, you’ve got a beautiful looking Elezen character there isn’t enough lady elezens and it’s a crying shame,
Hahaha, it's so funny to find out Yoshi-P regards the twins as younger siblings because that is exactly how I describe my own regard for them to my friend. When I started playing, my friend asked me (knowingly, lol) what I thought of Alphinaud because he was her favorite and I told her "omg, he's your favorite? but he's so annoyingly arrogant!!" But by Heavensward, _I understood._ And here I am, having finished Shadowbringers, like "this is my little brother. I might make the odd joke at his expense, but I will absolutely end anyone that even looks at him funny". And Alisaie too, I feel so protective of her, my girl with the hard shell over that gooey emotional center. I love my twinsies.
Labour of love comes to mind. FF14 community really spoils me. This video being no exception. Very enjoyable. Alisaie is so much more direct. And her anger often is stirred by compassion by others suffering. But Alphinaud putting Vauthry in check with a one-liner reveals he is just as bold as his sister. He learned to call out persons as what they are. A quality of leadership. Definitely interesting to see them grow in personality. Thanks for the video. Bye :)
This was a wonderfully well thought out and presented study. Thank you for pointing out what seems so obvious looking back about my disdain for Alphy - I was supposed to. Truth be told, I despised the most common quest objective in the game, which is "Speak with Alphinaud." up until the moment you enter Eulmore. At that point, the tall tale he spins to the Chai's made me smile and think, you finally learned to lie, I'm so proud. Since that moment I've enjoyed his character. I chalk up my held onto dislike because I only started played back in October, and am now caught up, but that didn't give time for Alphy to really feel like he's grown. I do still joke that Alphinaud wasn't really able to grow until he was taken to the first, as he had a whole year there without me holding his hand every step of the way...
I'm not sure if I even had one before that, but Alisaie quickly became my favorite FFXIV character during Stormblood. Her compassion and drive, her habit of becoming embarrassed about trivial things, and her fight to get out from her brother's shadow are all extremely endearing. Also doesn't hurt that she chose the path of the Red Mage, which was my own primary job in Final Fantasy XI back in the day.
Your voice is very relaxing. And the story and narrative has been fantastic. It Is a good job. I'm going to listen a fragment in my free time on my duties.
I love this video also your glam looked so early ff14/ARR I thought you were an NPC in some of the cutscenes at first lol 🤣. Tho my char probably looks like they were an npc in Stormblood because I wear all of the Doman clothes. Excellent video I thoroughly enjoyed this. Im a huge Alisae fan especially thru SB
Alphi and Ali are best friends and younger siblings to me, Alphi especially grew so much after the Crystal Bravers Arc where he was really way too confident and naive. Ali broke my heart at the end of Stormblood, making a promise she couldnt keep but regretting it so much more than one can imagine. I dont blame her, it was beyond her powers yet it made her feel even more guilty. She deserves a hug and Alphi too
Alphinaud and Alisaie could easily have been a "Fred and George" type duo where they are largely interchangeable for when more characters are needed for plot/to assist you in solo fights. I like that aside from their learning arcs they are, at base, very different people despite being twins.
Thank you! I think so many forget that Alphinaud in particular was really just doing his best with the experience and resources he had. No one else was stepping up, so what choice did he have? I'd be very interested to see your thoughts on Lyse, too. I think her character is not as well developed as the twins and suffers for it a lot, but I also think she's pretty badly understood by much of the player base. I think a lot of people see her as this entitled princess who was handed her position, and it very much WAS handed to her, but I don't think she takes on the responsibility with a sense of entitlement. She's a figurehead, and I think she's aware of that. She's looked to because of her lineage, and I think she's doing about the best she can with that kind of legacy. It's not like she lords her position over anyone, she seems to take her station seriously and is very open to advisors and input. That said, I fully acknowledge that her lolz-chipper-punchy-girl thing grates on people. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk lol
Excellent, enjoyable, well-researched and -made. Am looking forward for other Scions' analyses! Loved the heartfelt part, especially as you shared your own PoV and empathising as a twin. Thank you! Will join the discord. ^^
Thank you! And thanks for the character compliment; I've only changed hairstyles since I started playing in 2017. I can't see my WoL/WoD any other way! :)
i really enjoyed watching this video myself as a fellow twin :) before i knew anything about ff14 it was alphinauds design that made me interested to play and when i learned he had a twin it made me like the both of them even more! seeing him and alisaie grow into amazing characters felt so very rewarding too, and getting this video recommended to me so i can see that development again was great. i also appreciate near the end of the video when you talk about how you see your twin in both alisaie and alphinaud since i see my twin in the both of them as well ^^
I think the Sharlayan connection also seems really likely. Combine it with some other theories going around about how this expansion is going to take a lot of inspiration from FF4 I dread that the twins will sacrifice themselves to help WoL similar to Palum and Polum in FF4 or rather like Louisoix did. Another thing that points to it, is that Palum is a sage/ becomes a sage and both of them were saved from their petrification by the person who taught Palum to be a sage. The expansion after might then be to find a way to get them back or like the ascian storyline, the twins' fate might end in endwalker. I really hope thogh that I am wrong. Don't want to loose my babies.
As a twin myself I know exactly what you mean. I relate so strongly to Alisaie and Alphinaud's care for each other. My sister and I are also vastly different but she is probably the person I care for most in the world, differences or no. She also more of the Alisaie of the two of us. XD
I was first given this video in my recommendations about four months when I started playing ff14 and after finishing msq I'm happy to return and watch this video to it's finish
I have to admit how easily the twins pulled the wool over my eyes when I first spoke to them, and saw their conversation in the adventurer’s guild. I took them for the type who would play both sides of the conflict, only to strike from the side to wipe us both out.
you could say, that alphinaud is the arrogant and immature 1.0 team judging from the gdc talk. SE had only one MMO under their belt and drew heavy inspiration from everquest when developing 11 but when it came to 14 they got all high and mighty and arrogant that what they were doing was the right way without looking at their contemporary competition. Alphinauds fall from grace from ARR to Heavensward always reminds me of that.
Yeah, I remember thinking for so long how insufferable the twins are in ARR, but yeah they got some amazing character development in SHB, especially with Alphinaud's 'Chai-Nuzz' story in post 5.0 MSQ, and Alisaie in 5.4. Also seen a lot of people drawing comparisons to the twins Palom and Porom from FFIV. Really well-done and fascinating video :) (Also, if Noulith is Greek for "Mind Stone", does that mean Vision is going to be the Sage trainer?)

I'm just here to praise and boost your retention and interaction metrics.
I think Shadowbringers was the biggest development in character for everyone, including the WoL.
I think it would be really interesting to explore who the WoL is... perhaps in a future video??
@@TheExtendedMetaphor I would love to see a video like that! You should totally make a summary video when End Walker is over.
7:50 oh god i did not miss this voice for alphy
Edit: just kept on watching and ye I agree.
This was such a lovely character study!
When Alphinaud was voiced by teddy from persona 4 xD
i really loved this video! thank you so much for making it!
this was such a delightful video i actually kinda teared up a bit over it! the twins are easily my favorites. the constant trope of "found family" that they cling to i think is what makes them so much more interesting than the other characters, because we watch them develop these bonds with other characters and how what they learn from each other holds throughout the entire journey. no encounter is ever too small to impact their growth, as well as the twins' influence on others (looking at you, estinien)
I'm glad you liked it :)
Sad how much of the Twin Story is literally forgotten. As hardly anyone does the Binding content.
Wol waiting for more people to join: ......... wanna just leave and come back later
Alisaie:.......... sure why not. Ishgard?
Wol: ....... Ishgard
I look forward to your future content, and I'm dipping my toe into some of your past videos. I probably won't ever catch your Twitch, but I'll be here for sure in the UA-cam comments peanut gallery haha. You put a lot of effort into this video, and it really shows imo.
15:10
I have to disagree here.
@@TheExtendedMetaphor you were describing her from a specific timeline. That makes sense.
Last check may have been 740, but as of now it should be 1k.
With that said congrats on 1k subs!
Thank you
I swear everytime I see that scene with Alph in Eulmore all I can think of is walmarket and Don Corneo
Excellent video! I hope you make more like this in the future!
How this video has less than 50k views baffles me. This is fantastic!
Thank you so much for this. I’d pay good
money for more lore and character analysis in the future.
There shall be more to come :) I am so glad you enjoyed!
A very good examination of the twins, I’ve made an alt character just to reply the story and refresh my memory on character arcs etc. I’ll admit I’ve grown more tolerant of the twins considering what they’ve went through.
Also on another note, you’ve got a beautiful looking Elezen character there isn’t enough lady elezens and it’s a crying shame,
I don't leave comments very often, but I loved this video and would love to see more like it
Hahaha, it's so funny to find out Yoshi-P regards the twins as younger siblings because that is exactly how I describe my own regard for them to my friend.
Thank you for this amazing work!
You’re welcome! I am glad you enjoyed it :)
This Video is really superb and I couldn’t agree more! Thanks for making this.
Thank you! :)
Thank you for making such wonderful video about my favorite characters! :)
She deserves a hug and Alphi too
42:06 Thanos: Say what now?
Alphinaud and Alisaie could easily have been a "Fred and George" type duo where they are largely interchangeable for when more characters are needed for plot/to assist you in solo fights. I like that aside from their learning arcs they are, at base, very different people despite being twins.
Always great to see another elezen player
Amazing video! Love the twins.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk lol
she is also the first one to admit she didnt deserve that position
Your elezen is so breathtaking
Very good character study. Love it.
My children. I love these two so much and I don't care what anyone says about them. Alphy and Ali are my kids and I love them.
Omg me too!! No one better hurt a hair on my sweet babies’ heads!
Your voice is so perfect to tell this story. Damn :o
25:42 the best line of the entire game
the twins are my absolute favorite scions
Wow, Amazing video.
Wow, I love your narration voice! It's as if Minfillia or Krille is reading a report on the Leveileur twins!
Oh the twins are my absolute favorites! 😍✨ Can't watch this fully yet I just finished Stormblood but I'm so glad you made a video of them 💕
Now this was very enjoyable to both watch and especially listen to, definitely subscribing.
Excellent, enjoyable, well-researched and -made. Am looking forward for other Scions' analyses! Loved the heartfelt part, especially as you shared your own PoV and empathising as a twin. Thank you! Will join the discord. ^^
Its strange hearing them in ARR, I hardly remembered what they sounded like back then.
They really are our beloved little siblings. Great vid. Side note your character is lovely. And I don't just say that as a ashen skinned Miqo'te.
Thank you! And thanks for the character compliment; I've only changed hairstyles since I started playing in 2017. I can't see my WoL/WoD any other way! :)
So, I'm used to your ASMR video, but your voice is also great for narration and this is a really good character study
26:25 still salty that I couldn’t call feo uhl more often, this sapling absolutely would have
i really enjoyed watching this video myself as a fellow twin :) before i knew anything about ff14 it was alphinauds design that made me interested to play and when i learned he had a twin it made me like the both of them even more! seeing him and alisaie grow into amazing characters felt so very rewarding too, and getting this video recommended to me so i can see that development again was great. i also appreciate near the end of the video when you talk about how you see your twin in both alisaie and alphinaud since i see my twin in the both of them as well ^^
I love this! Please make more character studies!
This is perfect, thank you
As a twin myself I know exactly what you mean.
It was a fantastic video
This video is marvelous. Thank you.
I love them so much :') by far my favorites
I'm glad u tube put this in my auto playlist very very good vid
U have a new sub now I kno this is an older vid but keep up the good work
I have to admit how easily the twins pulled the wool over my eyes when I first spoke to them, and saw their conversation in the adventurer’s guild.
Alphinauds fall from grace from ARR to Heavensward always reminds me of that.
this is a really good video, and you have a great voice!
i love all the Scions, but the twins are by far my favorite
This was really insightful, thanks for your work. Hope you're alright.
Thank you! I am doing well, so sorry for being absent so long! Currently scripting my big EW video :)
I love always that scene where Alphi yeeted himself into the water XD
The twins are amazing. I love those two
Thancred would be a good addition
It's not a video about the twins without the infamous belly flop and swimming jabs
I cant beleive i ve missed this game for all these years...
thanks for this interesting video this gave me some more info of the twin i liked from the start of the game
As a fellow rdm i love alisaie sooooo friggin MUCH.
Really well-done and fascinating video :)
(Also, if Noulith is Greek for "Mind Stone", does that mean Vision is going to be the Sage trainer?)
They could name the sage trainer Jarvis
I wouldn’t put it past Koji Fox to make at least some type of reference to that lmao
Over the course of Stormblood, and the interim content before Shadowbringers, Alisaie easily became my favorite character of the bunch, god I love her attitude
Im so glad I’m not the only one whose favorite characters are Alphinaud and Alisae ❤️🥺
Just finished ShB yesterday, so I guess this is as good a time as any to watch this.
I do wish we still had Taliesin and Sam as Alphinaud and Thancred, but, I do also love their replacements
I adore this, Thank you so much. I found the twins a bit annoying at the beginning but have grown to like them. They are so well written :D
"it's quite a feat playing a character playing another character."
Let me present to you 4 words.
Orphan black
Tatiana maslany
Put short, it's a TV show about a cloning project, and Tatiana plays like 10 different roles in the show. She has had times in the show where she's playing a character playing another character, who is in turn playing another character. It's fucking nuts.
Sounds bananas! I think my sister watched that. I will have to ask xD
The video has been really entertaining and informative, thanks for your work. People have drawn the similarities that EW shares with IVs. In such game Cecil runs into a couple of magic user twins. Do you think our twins will share the same fate as those?
You are welcome! As to your question, I simply don’t know! I would like them to be our friends for years to come :)
My left ear sure loves being lower in audio…
Looking forward to watching this video nonetheless!
