I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I like cleaning my armory chest. Plus when gear does start entering my inventory I know it's time to clean the armory chest.
and on the opposite, i was fully maxed out for ShB (not 90 yet but work on it) so its easy sorting gear, but the inventory scares the hell out of me x)
I've known about this Heavensward. My wife just started recently and hit lvl 52 before learning about it. Her Armory was FLOODED. Thankfully she only focused on 1 job so it was just a simple dump all.
For that dreadful moment when you do have to open your armory I made a macro that sorts every single armory tab by descending item level, that way all the gear will be organized according to their ilvl which makes picking out lower level gear you might no longer have need for a lot easier, as every single time you swap gearsets some of the stuff gets shuffled around a bit. The macro is basically like a defragmentation button for your armory. /isort condition armoury ilv des /isort execute armoury
for your fate levelsynch i would add /levelsync /action "Dismount" that way when you fly in on a mount you can be sync and dismounted ready for action.
You can even add /hotbar change 1 (if you normally have non-combat bars up when weapon sheathed and your combat default bar is 1), /chotbar for controllers. /battlemode will not work unless you have fully dismounted.
If you want to take it even further, you can: /mount "Whatever your fav mount is" OR /ac "Mount Roulette" /ac "sprint" /levelsync That way you mount (or sprint if you aren't in a mountable area), and then dismount and levelsync at the same time all in one button.
Something that really helped me is that you can split the Target Info to display independently and show hp, progress bar, and status in different bars/different sizes. I scaled the progress bar wayyy up so it's in my face what my target is doing...
Thank you for saying this, I thought I was the only one who never knew what the boss was casting. I had to make mine max size in the center of the screen just to get a clue!
Excellent suggestion it’s necessary for doing mechanics to see the progress bar I also suggest scaling up and moving the debuffs you have on you to a place where you can see it easily and quickly in combat. as knowing when you do or don’t have a particular debuff from a boss ability on you is crucial for some mechanics as well
FFXIV is so loaded with good settings that for some reason aren't default, that there should be a tutorial just to show where all these settings are and what they do
@@vitawaterplz Honestly, the first mod I'd ask for them to bake into the game is the one that makes your own debuffs larger on the target frame. "Greenwhite timer text when it's yours" is really bad contrast.
legitimately, the default targeting function for tab was my most hated thing about the game - thank you so much for informing me about this, its honestly made combat so much better
@@introverted.unicorn6438 filter targeting. You press LB and A, B, C OR D and it enters a mode where pressing dpad right/left only selects certain targets that you can configure on settings. For example I have enemies only, other pcs (not party) and all.
With all the summoners in-game now, the primals cover a lot of the screen and can be annoying since they get cycled around. The command to make them all small is "/petsize all small". Not only does this make them smaller, but you get to laugh at Titan looking like angry Eric Cartman.
to expand on the chat cycling, alt + r is a quick reply function for /tells, and repeatedly tapping it will cycle through the most recent people who have sent you /tells
Glad it was helpful, the cone targeting really helped me because I hate clicking for targeting so I will often just spam until I find the right one. Depth was just awful for that
@@Jolsn I keybinded a mouse button to "target nearest enemy". I also keybinded F to "confirm", so when I wanna interact with something, I just hit F twice....
For /isearch you can also put your item in quotes for more than one word. Ex: /isearch "of aiming" would pull up aiming gear, but /isearch of aiming would pull up anything with "of" in it's name.
Here's one I use that I'm not sure if many other people do: When I was first learning some jobs, it annoyed me how mousing over a spell/ability on my hotbar would bring up that tooltip which covered other actions on my hotbar, so I found a way that you can make the "action help" hover boxes slightly transparent. Personally I think this is a major improvement. 1. System -> Character Config -> UI settings -> General Tab -> Help -> Change "Display action help" from "Next to cursor" to "Fixed" (Or disable it entirely if you want), apply the changes 2. Go to System -> HUD layout, click on the Action Help box. Next to where it says "Current UI element / Action Help" click UI element settings which is the little cog next to it. 3. You can change transparency settings & Size, personally I have it at 12% transparency with 100% size. 4. save changes here, and go back into character config and change action help display back to "next to cursor". Now, you'll have slightly transparent tooltips that follow your cursor so you can still fully see your hotbars when you're reading the text :)
7:10 another great thing about hide armoury chest items is if you plan to exchange all of your inventory for seals, you can just spam the heck out of the NUM-0 key for turbo mode turn-ins
i once have a problem where im afraid i turned in gear im using and some gear i want to save as glams, this really helps me spamming without remorse hahahahaha
@@raize0276 You can rebind it. I have it bound to ` for instance. Also works for anything interactable in the world, for instance interacting with things in Praetorium. Keybinds -> System -> Confirm (first on the list).
If you ever do a part 2: I suggest Character Config --> Item Settings --> "Inventory Interface" change to "Expanded" Being able to see all 4 item sections at one time instead of tabbing through each one is pretty nice. One more: Sorting the duty list by "Level (Descending)" so the highest level content you have is at the top. Pretty nice, not having to scroll down a mile long list to get to the duty I just unlocked. Anyway, I enjoyed the video and learned a thing-or-two. Cheers~
Haven't finished video yet so he might say this but you can change your settings under item settings to sort by type then right click in your inventory and hit sort
One tip that I did for myself quite some time ago and often think that new people would benefit from, when running alliance content, is to change your own party's name color to be something different than the other alliances' colors, so that if there's a "get with your group" mechanic, you'll have an easier time identifying your own party members to get with. For example, my own party names display blue, but other alliances display green, in my settings. So I know whenever there's an add phase in an alliance boss fight and each alliance is supposed to take a separate one, I'm with my blue folks. You can do this under Character Configuration > Display Name Settings > Others, then just change the "Party Members" to whatever color you want, that is different from the others.
@@IsacMH As a healer it is helpful to keep them showing so you can toss a spot heal to keep the raid going smoothly. Same for most tanks, as Pala I have save other raid group's asses by simply spot healing their healer seeing as cover/guard can't effect non-party members.
When you are turning in a bunch of gear at the GC instead clicking each item and then clicking accept, mash zero on your number pad. It is effectively a controller's "accept" button so it'll automatically move the cursor to the item then the deliver button and hand everything in a a fraction of the time.
You can take this a bit further by going Keybind > System and binding Move Cursor/Target Cursor Left to Alt+NUM0. (Or whatever modifier you prefer) This way, whenever you're doing the "Mash Num0 to rapidly Accept" trick, but there's a confirmation dialog in between that defaults to the Cancel option, you can just get into a rhythm of mashing Num0 → Alt+Num0 → Num0 → (Repeat)
@@shineko79 Ohhh, you just reminded me of a specific thing local to me I totally forgot about. I played a tank in EverQuest, and bound my mitigation/support abilities to my NumPad, which worked so well I carried it forward into WoW. And then XIV. So I rebound all of my Numpad keys to my own muscle memory, and created the problem I then solved with the rebinding I described above. Good point, though!
@@MrProg-ey3tl Can't happen. The game issues a warning if the delivery would overcap and the cursor defaults to "no" in that instance, so it's all good.
As a beginning FF14 player, i want to thank you for sharing these tips. There are so many elements to the UI - it can quickly become overwhelming. This helped me tremendously!
Been playing for 8+ years and I didn’t know half of this; never bothered to look, yet found myself repeatedly saying “this is exactly what I wanted!” THANK YOU for making this video hahah!
For targeting I personally took some advice to change my tab key to "target nearest enemy" then set up some hotkey combinations like ctrl+tab to cycle targets. It works for me but maybe not for everyone, cone still targets really strangely imo. Great advice though, I learned most of this over thousands of hours so it's great to see it condensed into one video!
Reminds me of when I used to play City of Heroes. E was nearest enemy and Tab cycled. F was follow. I would press E then F then Spacebar to jump right to them (or fly to them depending on your skills.)
So for the scaling of windows, if you have any window open, you can just press ctrl+home to cycle through the different scaling %s to quickly increase its size
Even as someone with thousands upon thousands of hours in this game, and a notorious options scrutiniser, I learnt a good few things from this. The CTRL+arrow keys camera thing BLEW MY MIND, as a controller player I had no way to access something like that to begin with, but I had no idea it was a thing either, its going to make actually seeing big opponents in combat much much easier. Incredible video.
With the amount of zones ever increasing, I right click ones I visit often in the teleport menu and select 'Save to History' which will pin them to the top of the history page making a custom port list so I don't have to look around for the correct locations. Common use is when I am on a mining run for high end mats on timers.
I just figured this out the other day and was SO HAPPY!!!! I've been playing a few months and struggled to go through all the towns to figure out how to get some place.
I also like to set the item tooltip to a fixed position. It really sucks when you're hovering over items in your crafting log and the tooltip covers half the log. Set it to fixed so it goes to the lower righthand corner.
I would like to note that I don’t have the problem you describe at 12:19 on the video. Using a trackball to play FFXIV I simply hold the right mouse button and rotate the ball to move the camera in any direction. This is a minor point since the majority of users will be using a mouse and not a trackball but I thought i would point this out just the same. :) I love your videos. They have been a godsend to helping me play the game. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them. It really is appreciated.
In a macro /hudlayout # will swap you to a different hud layout in case you have more then one hud for any reason. I use all 4. /echo will trigger a sound in a macro for you to hear (like an alert when you finish a macro), /trade will open trade with a targeted player. alt+r will allow you to respond to a direct message or even cycle through who you respond to.
Adding onto the part where you hand in gear to your Grand Company, you can just spam 0 on the numpad on keyboard. Saves you moving the mouse and clicking away, and everything can be turned in super fast. This also applies to most interactable objects/characters. Just spam 0 to quickly go through the options. Note 0 Numpad is the default keybinding.
This is really useful for when you're accepting/turning in Beast Tribe quests. It also works for when you need to interact with something in a dungeon to turn something on, or travel to a new zone, just make sure you don't have anyone targeted, and spam it.
For the battle effects, you can create a macro for turning them off and one for turning them on. /battleeffect USAGE: /battleeffect [subcommand] [setting] Configure battle effects settings. Subcommands: self - Configure own battle effects settings. party - Configure party members' battle effects settings. other - Configure other NPCs' battle effects settings. Settings: all - Show all effects. simple - Show limited effects. off - Hide all effects.
Honestly, sometimes I enjoy watching other player's visual vomit. The DRK AoE throws me off though. Not used to it and whenever some DRK rolls up and uses it, I think it's an enemy effect.
It's honestly amazing how many optional QoL settings have been put into the game, goes to show that the devs play their own game and care about all this jazz.
I've been playing about ARR and didn't know about a few of these! Particularly "change camera angle" (I'm a lalafell so this is a life changer) and "Easily Cycle Chats". So glad I clicked this video, thank you for sharing!
Been playing the game for many years already and some of them changed my life back then when i started using them... but it amazed me to learn the isearch one with your video.... thank you so much!
For circles I use /merror off /ac "Asylum" /ac "Asylum" First line is for it to be centered on my target, second is if I don't have a target and use the circle
Man you're a real mvp, i've logged over 700 hours and still never figured out some of these things. The camera angle change is gonna come in REAL handy, as well as cone targeting, thanks!
Great vid, lot of useful tips here! Following on from the window scaling tips, you can do that to cutscene text bubbles! (Especially useful for higher resolutions.)
you have single handedly revolutionized the game for me. I kept having issues with EVERYTHING you showed. no more shooting an enemy behind me and turning around while following the tank through a kite hallway. no more chat spam from my love of emotes, no more warning message with the annoying BONG while I spam attacks to get them off ASAP. actual god sent.
/ac Swiftcast /ac Revive Hit the button twice and then claim the tank was never dead, he was just doing his shoelaces. If the tank gets replaced do /psort to get the replacement tank into the slot targets that which is under your mouse pointer, targets your focus. I think you can even do and
If one is using Standard Type movement you can "wiggle" your camera with holding right mouse button, you can do casts/attacks even when facing away. It turns your character for that split second where you basically "hit", but instantly turns you back since the charater turns with the camera.
I do enjoy as a tank with standard type movement: timing a ranged attack + jump while pulling mobs to the next wall to see if I can keep my momentum going forward instead of accidently turning around. An extra challenge when you're doing that dungeon again for the 100th time 👌
EDIT: I didn't see Prodiggity's comment at first, but screw it, I'm not deleting this. This can sometimes be unreliable, so for MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS, just jump while pressing that button. I use it for tanking a lot where I'm tomahawking stuff that is 180 degrees behind me, and my gait is completely unbroken while doing this.
Omg, I did not know there was a setting that would not add new items to your armory. I wanted something like that for the longest time lol. A lot of great info here. Thanks!
For Earthly Star, I made a macro and I just weave it between things and land it right on the boss. If it's a boss that's on the side of an arena, I just put it on the MT, who's usually whacking away in the centre of the arena. 🤷🏼
I'm gonna immedialy apply the inventory setting, big thanks! One thing that I found annoying at the start of my FFXIV adventure was the Chocobo mount music and I was so happy to discover there's a way to mute it from the settings.
Standard works for me and put them on strafe a long time ago. You can still spin if you hold right click. The limit range and the other option were introduced in EW if you didnt know.
@@KingTUMMAN You have to hold right click and move your mouse left or right, your char will spin as long as you move the mouse. It won't allow you to spin indefinitely though like if you held down "D" on it's default keybind, unless you have a super long arm and desk haha.
@@gerble36 AAaah alright, Thanks alot I thought I can hold down right click then press A or D to spin gonna give it a try but I thinks my Muscle memory starting to remember what I currently using atm lol
Thank you so much! I just started using Sage and Astrologist and a lot of these tips improved my experience so much (I use a ps4 controller). So nice to see concise, straightforward tips like this.
Here's my tip and trick for folks recording video of FFXIV. In the Chat Log settings, you can enable your 4th channel and only select the things you would be okay with people seeing while you're recording. You can also use that to modify your existing filters. I usually disable stuff like "Other's Synthesis Messages" since if I'm chilling in a city, there's usually an unending stream of those.
This is also a super helpful thing to do when, say, a new expansion/raid/etc drops. I keep my 4th tab so that it doesn't have say/shout/yell, etc, so that other random people can't spoil things for me.
You may have also noticed that your logs there completely reset every so often when you’re playing a lot in one sitting: it resets after a certain amount of lines typed. This means that by disabling most of battle log (something most people don’t use), you can prevent that from happening, as battle log uses a LOT of lines.
Not a lot of people seem to realise how nice it is to disable PC and NPC names in the overworld. Makes it much more immersive and less of an eyesore in busy areas And you can still check names by selecting the characters ofc
I'm a new player and I had to do this. I found I was running through the world and my eyes were basically deleting the character models in my field of view and focusing solely on names and health bars. The clutter was real. After I turned them off, running from point A to point B was so much more immersive. Enemies look more like they are living in their environment, rather than just being random names I fly by. Sometimes I don't even realize there's a mob or group hidden in the grass, which forces me to keep an eye out for them, further increasing my immersion and awareness. Before my mind was basically glossing over the enemy models because all that mattered was names and health bars, now that I am forced to look at just the enemy,I notice so much more detail.
The "Change Camera Angle" completely changed everything for me. I've been playing this game for 2 years now with controller but never got across this and even raided without being able to fully see the boss.. Thanks for this video or I probably wouldn't have known about it! Incredibly useful!
Standard Type Movement was introduced specifically for Mouse+Keyboard based on the system from World of Warcraft because I guess at the time YoshiP and his team had grown accustomed to that style and knew that MMO players at the time were accustomed to this form of movement while 1.0 used the same system as FFXI which is the legacy system which is based on controller/console controls, basically flight stick controls. It was added to try to make ARR more accommodating to people who came to the game from pre-existing western MMOs. However, right after Heavensward released the developers shifted their focus; They abandoned the WoW-Clone approach to the game and instead shifted it in a direction based entirely on the feedback and desires of FFXIV's community. Basing ARR on WoW saved FFXIV, I won't deny that and both WoW and Blizzard deserve their credit for inspiring YoshiP and his team with the direction they took to save the game; But after that point, they went their own path and FFXIV is far from the WoW clone it begun it's life as to the point where end game boss fights are so far removed from that of the WoW like boss fights of ARR and Heavensward 3.0 base content (the 5 starting dungeons and 3 trials that came at launch), especially so since Stormblood that the combat is so intense at end game that Standard controls hamper players from being able to maximise their own potential at damage output while dodging mechanics. Good luck trying to melee Savage and Ultimate with Standard controls, I don't even think it's possible anymore. Also here's a tip: In WoW you can change the game's movement settings to that of the same as FFXIV's legacy settings but it has to be done manually though hotkey reassignment... which is annoying. Also the double click to cast template abilities immediately on target is a quality of life feature added shortly before Endwalker released. Before then we had to set up Macros. A lot of these features have been added over the years at the request of the fanbase in Japan but a lot of English players are not even aware they even exist because they get brushed over in patch notes and the developers only really discuss them on the live letter in casual conversation and never had them up on the presentation and since before Endwalker the liveletters were exclusively in Japanese and only the presentations got translated, few people knew about it.
Weird I haven't seen this one yet but there is an option for an expanded inventory for both your inventory and your Chocobo Saddlebag so you have all the sacks open at once instead of having to flip through two pages to find what you want.
same place where he shows expanded, there's another option, something like 'full' or 'show all' or something. It's in that dropdown anyway, so there's only a couple options to check
2:45 Yep, super useful. You know what else I do to accommodate for this issue is I put my hotbars and cross hotbar on the right side of the screen to make sure my character and where I am standing is clearly visible and not obscure it with hotbars. That way, I can keep my camera angle pointed high for most of the time. Also, I use one of the paddles on my Xbox Elite 2 controller to map that paddle + LB and RB for adjusting the verticle camera angle on the fly without needing to reach for my keyboard.
You know you can turn off "always display cross hotbar" and it will only show the hotbar when you press R2 or L2. I have this so I can marvel at my glam while not in combat
Thank you! I don't know how many times I've had running toward an enemy on bard get me/nearly get me killed while I was trying to rapid fire abilities and dodge mechanics. Also for the camera tilt. How tall some of the bosses were and being able to see almost nothing they were doing was maddening. 0.0 I can't believe I did not know about the scale window option. That has driven me nuts for ages! Thank you so much for all of these.
You can turn off facing the enemy ur targeting when u hit an ability, you don't need to turn on legacy for that specifically and even with the standard movement you can just hold right click to strafe with A and D Edit: I feel like i should add to turn off auto-facing a target go to Character Config > Control Settings > Target > Turn off "Automatically face target when using action"
@@mothsaliva thats a good point yeah, having to manually keep yourself aimed at the boss can be a trick sometimes, i suppose it really does just come down to preference and what youre used to ^^
3:38 I feel like it's worth mentioning here that the targetting settings have been improved even further since this video. There's now a drop-down option to the side of these two options where you can tell the game to prioritize the closest enemy, which bypasses a few issues I had when using cone targetting.
one I recently discovered was "raw material list" in crafting. Breaks down the base materials needed and can adjust how many items you want to make to have a easy to read gathering list.
Just about anything you have to search through the menus for, like the chocobo saddlebag, or the weekly timers, they can be dragged onto the hotbar so you can just press a button instead of going through a menu each time.
Thank you very much for this educative video. One thing I really appreciated was the commands for cycling through chats, but not in a way you might have intended. For some skills, I use the Alt+1,2 and 3. But on some occasions, I started typing in chat mid boss fight even though I don't remember pressing "Enter", due to accidently pressing one button combination. Thanks for revealing me that all this time I've just been pressing the command for the various chat channels.
just 1 issue I found about legacy movement is when facing boss trial in Bardram mettle where you should avoid aoe & gaze one after another, I 70% failed that because my character can't walk backward without facing the boss lol
I feel your pain, but don't give up on practicing it. It gets better and you figure out little tricks to handle the controls. I got used to simply slapping S for the tiniest second while facing away from a gaze attack, or facing towards it and hitting both mouse buttons briefly for that quick turn around. Conversely, if you play with the other control type that lets you turn with your camera, you can slightly wiggle your mouse while holding Rmb to keep facing the way you want to despite the game turning you around for a moment to face your target as you use any abilities. Very useful for something like the teleports in Eden 7.
Similar to the level sync macro, I also have 2 other macros to toggle my HUD. I have one that toggles my current quest list, and one that toggles the msq quest display. Very nice being able to take these things on and off screen at will, if you are someone who for some reason doesn't like having a mini-map you could toggle that as well with a button. Additionally you can have your gear sets placed into your hotbars for easy fast switching without having to navigate any menus
Isn't it true, though, that if, however, you change a piece of gear, you have to make a new hotbar icon for it, or it won't find the previous gear set completed?
@@keithstarkey5584 No that is not correct, the gear set button updates just as you update your gearset in the menus as it is the same button essentially. as long as you remember to actually hit "update gearset" the hotbar button will always update with your gearset like everything else.
@@PicoriElder Well, I've tried this a few different ways, and here are my results: 1) if you drag a gear set onto a hot bar, updating it doesn't help the icon work; it's going to put the same old stuff back in, if it can find it. And b) if you update a gear set, you have to make another icon for it; the old will not work. And finally c) if you delete an old great set after creating a new one, the current icon for the old set will not work. As a matter of fact, deleting an old gear set deletes the icon on the hotbar as well.
I find that having a minimap makes it so I rely on it for travel, and I don't really experience the beauty of the game world because I'm so busy looking at the map. I've turned the transparency very high, so I'm forced to learn where north is by sight and memory (having the compass turn on the minimap helps), and to learn landmarks to get me around. Also forces me to explore a little, take some wrong turns, see stuff I might not have otherwise.
It's a small thing, but I always recommended to new players to reorder their emotes to an alphabetical list. Also put the lookout emote in your favored emotes for sightseeing.
Legacy + Auto face target gives me the superpowers to run forward or full speed backwards while throwing my shield behind me without slowing down or doing awkward jump mouse acrobatics. Its a personal preferences, its whatever is comfy for the user.
I've never ran into this issue with standard. I hold down my right mouse button hold W, and use tomahawk, shield lob, unmend without any "mouse acrobatics." Personal preference I guess, but it just feels a bit redundant of a setting when u can live both ways in standard with relative ease. There's probably a reason they added standard instead of keeping it the 1.0 way.
Just one thing. You’re using a keyboard and mouse meaning you don’t use the Cross Hotbar. Any settings related to the Cross Hotbar will have no relavance to you and would be a placebo effect at most.
@@robertowen8014 Its super common to use it to quickly leave though, especially with raiju now. And macroing it to a target puts you directly in the center of their hitbox. The macro definitely has its uses, but I find myself wanting to manually position it way more often, and if you have max range and double tap to cast turned on, its super easy to use. The macro is really only useful if you are playing with a controller. Even then, you probably want a macro version and a non macro version.
@@spookyturbo1618 The macro is very necessary especially in pvp, what you have to do is put both on the skill bar, the macro and the normal one. And you use the macro when you want to go with the enemy or the normal one when you want to flee,
another way to make targeting even better is to change the actual keybind for tab to "target closest enemy". that way you can just spam tab to always target whatever is closest, if I want a specific target I just use my mouse
Simple thing, but on one of the additional hotbars I assigned the 'Z' and 'X' keys, put the Sprint action on 'Z' and my main mount on 'X'. Frees up room on the main hotbars and makes it easy to get around quickly.
been playing ffxiv since 2015 and yet i found many useful setting tips here that i am going to use. especially the "display recast timer error messages". Thank you!
Standard movement does not make your character face a target when dpsing. It's an entirely different setting that can be disabled. I've tried to like legacy but without free look, I don't think it'll ever replace standard for me.
Perhaps the wording was bad here because its not my native language, what I mean is specifically when you move past the target in standard mode it will face the target and change your movement direction while in Legacy it won't and you will still face the target without having to disable the option. Also I can't really recommend turning off automatically face target because its going to make abilities randomly not cast because you are turned just slightly to the side and it will make healing others a nightmare
@@Jolsn yea I've been playing for like 2 years. And recently i decided to ask how one of my friends could make such tight circles when i couldn't xD. Swapping to legacy has made me objectively better at the game by a huge margin.
I have to use standard movement on controller because there is no option to change your controller keybind to strafe the same way you can on MnK. I know it's holding me back but the gradual camera turn as you move left and right makes me motion sick :/
@@Jolsn Try holding down right mouse button in Standard mode while moving and attacking. Turn left/right turns to strafe left/right, and your character will always face the way you are pointing at with your mouse; even when activating skills and abilities; even if you are looking away from the target. This gives you all the advantages legacy would give, but also keeps the much nicer standard camera -- and allows power ranger spin.

/mount "Whatever your fav mount is" OR /ac "Mount Roulette"
/ac "sprint"
/levelsync
That way you mount (or sprint if you aren't in a mountable area), and then dismount and levelsync at the same time all in one button.
I had to make mine max size in the center of the screen just to get a clue!
that's a big one, I split it out for the same reason - making the target's cast bar huge

This, and the movement setting that enables you to run backwards out of a void without having to turn your character first, really improved the game.

Here's one I use that I'm not sure if many other people do:
When I was first learning some jobs, it annoyed me how mousing over a spell/ability on my hotbar would bring up that tooltip which covered other actions on my hotbar, so I found a way that you can make the "action help" hover boxes slightly transparent. Personally I think this is a major improvement.
1. System -> Character Config -> UI settings -> General Tab -> Help -> Change "Display action help" from "Next to cursor" to "Fixed" (Or disable it entirely if you want), apply the changes
Thx for this!! Awesome!! Just want to add that it's in the UI Settings section of the character Config.

If you ever do a part 2: I suggest Character Config --> Item Settings --> "Inventory Interface" change to "Expanded"
Being able to see all 4 item sections at one time instead of tabbing through each one is pretty nice.
One more: Sorting the duty list by "Level (Descending)" so the highest level content you have is at the top. Pretty nice, not having to scroll down a mile long list to get to the duty I just unlocked.
Anyway, I enjoyed the video and learned a thing-or-two. Cheers~
"Open all" is even better for the inventory interface, you open your bags and can see all the items in one screen.
I actually noticed he had expanded set when he had that menu open, was surprised he didn't mention it.

Set other alliance names to not even show and you can stop having their names clutter your screen entirely
@@IsacMH As a healer it is helpful to keep them showing so you can toss a spot heal to keep the raid going smoothly. Same for most tanks, as Pala I have save other raid group's asses by simply spot healing their healer seeing as cover/guard can't effect non-party members.
the armory chest / inventory one is so freaking helpful. thank you
Ye, 1.2k hours in this game and this is the setting I changed as soon as I saw it in the video.
I've had it set to put them in my inventory for so long that I almost forgot that default was to put them in the armory chest.
@@Darkenesis numpad 2/4/6/8 are directionals for cursor, just can just alternate between 0 and 4, for instance, to do the same thing.
@@shineko79 Ohhh, you just reminded me of a specific thing local to me I totally forgot about. I played a tank in EverQuest, and bound my mitigation/support abilities to my NumPad, which worked so well I carried it forward into WoW. And then XIV.
Man I've been playing this game for 5 years and I just learned some things (like the camera angle...). Thanks a lot...!!
You can also create a /c macro to check someone's gear without your character staring at them.
+1 Was going to mention this, use it all the time.
this video is actually incredible thank you. Also, “I dont’y even want to open the armory chest because ~I’m scared~” is an entire mood
I made 2 macros on my controller to switch back and forth

@@idleweiss28 Nope.
I found out about camera tilt when my cat sat on my keyboard and suddenly my character was hidden behind my hotbars and I couldn't see ground aoes.
For casting ground targets its better to just make macro with spell name and to auto drop aoe on target that choosing option for double tap
I also like to set the item tooltip to a fixed position. It really sucks when you're hovering over items in your crafting log and the tooltip covers half the log. Set it to fixed so it goes to the lower righthand corner.
Agreed--tooltips are annoying. You also can press ALT whilst hovering/moving and that info doesn't pop up.
oh is this an ingame setting? this stuff always annoys me so much, gotta look for that later
I love your videos. They have been a godsend to helping me play the game. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them. It really is appreciated.

My man! been playing this game off and on for YEARS! and I am still learning about setting adjustments, incredible!
Not a lot of people seem to realise how nice it is to disable PC and NPC names in the overworld. Makes it much more immersive and less of an eyesore in busy areas
And you can still check names by selecting the characters ofc
This would be infinitely better if you could reveal names by mouseover.
I do this but keep the NPCs just because I still feel like I need to know who they are for some reason.
@@frayleaf That's awesome ❤️ I wish more players had your mindset
The instantly cast ground-targeted abilities tip is such a game-changer. Thank you for posting this video.
Weird I haven't seen this one yet but there is an option for an expanded inventory for both your inventory and your Chocobo Saddlebag so you have all the sacks open at once instead of having to flip through two pages to find what you want.
I use that one and well it's really helpful, I don't remember how to activate it though
same place where he shows expanded, there's another option, something like 'full' or 'show all' or something. It's in that dropdown anyway, so there's only a couple options to check
Omg thank you for this! I spend hours in my inventory trying to figure out if I need an item or not!
@@tyriaxepheles7996 But then I couldn't see my cooldowns. Can you hide the cross hot bar only when not in combat?
Thank you! I don't know how many times I've had running toward an enemy on bard get me/nearly get me killed while I was trying to rapid fire abilities and dodge mechanics. Also for the camera tilt. How tall some of the bosses were and being able to see almost nothing they were doing was maddening.

You can turn off facing the enemy ur targeting when u hit an ability, you don't need to turn on legacy for that specifically and even with the standard movement you can just hold right click to strafe with A and D
Edit: I feel like i should add to turn off auto-facing a target go to Character Config > Control Settings > Target > Turn off "Automatically face target when using action"
Yeaaah but that can cause some issues with some classes, making it unable to cast some things without manually turning towards that enemy
I found that changing colours on my friends made them easier to find, too. Made them bright magenta, just so the name stands out.
one I recently discovered was "raw material list" in crafting. Breaks down the base materials needed and can adjust how many items you want to make to have a easy to read gathering list.
True, that one is definitely useful. Took me a while to find as well, thinking about it
Just about anything you have to search through the menus for, like the chocobo saddlebag, or the weekly timers, they can be dragged onto the hotbar so you can just press a button instead of going through a menu each time.
Thank you for this especially the scale window it always frustrated me looking at gear in the fitting room
Dog. Great content. Wow. As a working man and family man, gotta make the hour or two I can play as productive as possible. So helpful
just 1 issue I found about legacy movement is when facing boss trial in Bardram mettle where you should avoid aoe & gaze one after another, I 70% failed that because my character can't walk backward without facing the boss lol
I had no idea about most of these or didn't care to change and try them. Thank you so much!
@@PicoriElder Ah, okay. I must have been doing something wrong. Thanks.
I know a lot of this old, but man it really helped me, that and the auto change to a new target once the current one was dead
It's a small thing, but I always recommended to new players to reorder their emotes to an alphabetical list. Also put the lookout emote in your favored emotes for sightseeing.
How does one reorder them would love to do this.
@@kainnak when you open the list of emotes in the upper right had corner there's a "sort" button, giving you the options of default order or by name.
Thanks!
No problem, and thanks!
Sprout here, and this video was great. It fixed a lot of issues I had, but I didn't know where to look to change them in the menus.
Just one thing. You’re using a keyboard and mouse meaning you don’t use the Cross Hotbar. Any settings related to the Cross Hotbar will have no relavance to you and would be a placebo effect at most.
this...... is probably the best tutorial vid ever.... ive played for 4 years now and didnt know any of these
as a ninja main who gets trolled by shukuchi every day of my life, THANK YOU for the limit ring movement. GAME CHANGER.
you can macro it so you auto teleport to the target you are targetting
@@robertowen8014 Its super common to use it to quickly leave though, especially with raiju now. And macroing it to a target puts you directly in the center of their hitbox. The macro definitely has its uses, but I find myself wanting to manually position it way more often, and if you have max range and double tap to cast turned on, its super easy to use. The macro is really only useful if you are playing with a controller. Even then, you probably want a macro version and a non macro version.
@@spookyturbo1618 The macro is very necessary especially in pvp, what you have to do is put both on the skill bar, the macro and the normal one. And you use the macro when you want to go with the enemy or the normal one when you want to flee,
This and your keyboard layout video have just saved me so much pain in this game thank you so much
another way to make targeting even better is to change the actual keybind for tab to "target closest enemy". that way you can just spam tab to always target whatever is closest, if I want a specific target I just use my mouse
Thank you sooo freaking much for showing the Disable Recast error message option!! It has been driving me nuts for way too long!
I just gave it a try on a dummy again to confirm and I'd be glad to upload proof
This gives you all the advantages legacy would give, but also keeps the much nicer standard camera -- and allows power ranger spin.
honestly, never new about window scaling upon right clicking even though I have been playing since ARR, managed to fix a long time issue for myself thanks to this where I couldn't see the numbers in my character info panel for stats and stuff, TY for this
I like standard type movement more because it feels more rp-like.
I agree, it makes it feel like a single player RPG, which is cool. I do like the backwards walk, but I wish it maintained full run speed
so many really good tips in this video. I never have the patience for going through the settings in depth myself, so I love when I see a video like this one doing the hard work for me lmao
