Octavia 1.8T Stock Airbox w/ K&N panel filter vs RAMAIR cone filter sound comparison

  • Sounds so much better with the cone filter. I do realize that even with the "heat shield" it's a warm air intake, but I'm not struggling with intake temps right now, and I've left in place the original pipe that goes to the front of the car, so its getting some amount of fresh air as well.
It switches between flutter and "PSHHHH" because I have an adjustable diverter valve, which allows for flutter on low boost but opens up and dumps the pressure into the intake on high boost.
Installing was very easy, the heat shield bolts into the same places as OEM airbox.
I'm not expecting it to do much difference power-wise, maybe the airflow will be better on higher RPMs, but it's snowy and icy currently so I didn't really have a chance to properly put my foot down. The difference probably won't be noticeable, but this is the first mod I've done on this car that I didn't expect performance gains, just pure sound improvement

I don't know if it's an international brand, I'm from Poland and I got it from a polish store, if you can't find it you can look up something like "adjustable BOV 25mm", it's probably imported from china and rebranded

Ram air sounds awesome and not restricted

Hey, read the description and saw you have an adjustable DV. Does that cause any fault codes at all or is it happy with the amount of air it gets at low boost?

Didn't experience any issues at all, I had it set up so that the air goes back in front of the turbo when releasing the throttle at anything above 0.5-0.6 bar, and at lower values the difference that closed DV made was low enough to not cause any problems, no codes, no rough running, nothing. Your mileage might vary depending on your ecu software, air leaks etc.
I had it like that only for a couple months, currently I'm running a standalone ECU and I'm not using MAF sensor at all, so I tightened the DV pretty much to the max to get more of that "stututu" sound, if the turbo goes that'll just give me a reason to buy a hybrid turbo :D

Uhhh... Do you mean the MAF sensor? It won't cause any fault codes, there's no reason it should. But shortly after this video I switched to a standalone ECU that used a MAP sensor, the MAF sensor wasn't used at all.

@@OsterForever thanks , just plug and play, without any errors then? My car is stock and i want to put the ramair filter.

@@s3by691 yes, plug and play, no issues. However, if it's available in your country, I'd recommend a proper cold air intake solution, I'm using one from Simota, product number SM-CA-027. It relocates the filter into the space behind the front bumper, allowing for cold air from outside of the engine compartment to be used. It was also cheaper than the ramair kit I used in this video. Alternatively you can find someone who will fabricate an intake for you, but it'll probably be more expensive.

@@aek2959 with a working stock DV you won't get the flutter, but you still will get the "PSHHHHH", as that sound is turbo pressure being dumped back into the intake pipe. It just might be a bit different due to different DV characteristics. Also note that I was running this car with a tune, I was pushing well over 1 bar of boost, with the stock boost your sounds won't be as loud purely because you have less boost pressure.
