When the facelift model came out I though it was the most ugliest car since the 2009 E Class. But unlike the E class which I think is still one of the worst looking Mercedes, the Octavia grew on me. After a while I found that the design actually makes sense (unlike the horrible mix of sharp and round elements on the e class). 3 years later i bought one. If it only had 4x4. I always wonder how popular Skoda would be if it was sold in the US. I mean it's part of the Volkswagen/Audi Group and has the same Quality but is cheaper. Here in Germany you see Skoda Wagons every few Minutes. I mean you also see Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz Wagons every few Minutes but seeing Skoda as often or more shows how good these Cars are. Prost & Cheers from Germany
Not only is it cheaper, but also main focus of Skoda design was having the biggest-in-class cargo space. For example Skoda Karoq has the same cargo capacity as VW Tiguan at 520 liters. And it achieves that while being 12cm shorter.

All of your other drag races are awesome but this is just more my scene! The Mk4 Octy would've come first if it had been a DSG, no question about that.
Yeah DSG gave it to the MK3, actually quite impressed with how the MK4 manual performed, I have one in race blue and its a great car (once you get past the electrical niggles) notice the engine covers were missing from it and the one next to it? They were melting against the turbo lol

@GK Behind The Wheel You looking at the Hatch? I had the 1.5 TSI Leon before this, decent engine with enough poke and did decent mpg (I miss the mpg it got) The main issues are electric gremlins, the SOS system can play up (that's a VAG group wide issue) but the latest fix seems to have sorted it, it make the Nav go mad etc when it dropped out. The lane assist, lights and ACC have had multiple adjustments via software updates but it still locks on to cars in the left lane at times which can be annoying and or dangerous if you aren't paying attention. Not sure if the 1.5 has the fake interior noise but if so that speaker can crackle and annoy (has been fixed with software update) the hatch dampers were a recall and it used to rattle and drive me mad now it's silent, you can check by generally pushing down on the boot in the corners it shouldn't move at all, I've heard reports of the seat ratchets not fully staying in place and needing to be adjusted every now and then. Tbh before the recalls mechanically it was sound but all the issues were driving me mad now I finally feel like it's at a point where I can just enjoy. My wifes got one and this thingy is a blast, the short gearbox the power from the ground to top revs, brutal! Only thing is, you should change the ignition coils very often, they can,t stay the heat and make shitty ignitions, wich burns holes in the pistons..
I happily live with it from 2011!
Very few discovered how great car it is.
Another epic video , skoda evolved so much in years ... 💪🏼
Mk1 Octavia and Fabia, and Mk2 octavia my fav. Lovely race!
Wow, that mk1 Octavia looks fresh! Its very difficult to find one in a shape like that
Thing looks straight outta factory. Gorgeous Mk1 Octavia!
Však sou ty jebky všude...
most were subject to massive modding and the reliability made them clock miles
I've seen one on the market like 6 years ago, even in the same colour and looked as fresh as this. It even had the steering wheel on the right (left) side lol
I'm in Love with Turbo whistling on MK2 Fabia VRS , 11 years driving this car, I can beat them all easily "stage4" XD, Great video Mat, Thank you!
Mk2 fabia vrs will always be my favourite, such a shame it was the last vrs fabia
Yeah Skoda’s are great cars. I’ve owned 2 2007 fabia mk2 1.9 tdi pd105 and a 3rd 2008 1.9 tdi pd 105. I’m now currently on my second fabia mk2 VRs 1.4 twin but I’m on the look out for a low mileage mk1 fabia VRS 1.9 pd130 but the prices are getting abit ridiculous for a older low mileage car, but I get it’s worth buying a great bullet proof engine that can do half a million miles given it’s maintained properly, usual regular service every year or 10k miles and cambelt Change’s when required!!!
I have a Fabia VRs Mk1. Its got 186k miles on it and has been mapped since 90k miles! I love it and its always puts a massive smile on my face :)
Would be a different case altogether should teh Fabia have been mapped...
✍️✍️✍️.
Just bought me a Mk3 FL Octavia RS. I absolutely love it! First ever Skoda, and wow! Such a quality car, and has an awful tendency to put a huge smile on your face!
Aw man I love these cars, what a lineup
Never thought I'd see a car I own on CarWow! MK1 Octavia. Thanks guys!
They always seem to be forgotten about compared with the fabia.I love my mk1 octavia vrs.
I've had 2 x mk2 octavias and a 2005 mk 1 octavia, and the mk1 was the quickest by far, though it was running and 225hp and about 400nm, was a 🚀. Great cars
This is the kind of drag races I wanna see
✍️✍️✍️
Still One of The best day to day brands imo 🎉
Love the MKII Skoda Fabia vRS!!
Imagine a supercharger and a turbocharger producing 180bhp in a Skoda hatchback! ❤
Such an underrated masterpiece!
Sadly that engine in the MK2 Fabia RS was a bit subsceptible and had a few problems.
@@frankseparator that’s unfortunate. What sort of problems?
You've said it all..
An underrated masterpiece!
This combination of the engine and the dsg makes it like a modern racecar but with under 7lt/100km
Seeing my old car (Fabia vRS Mk2) being drag-raced is amazing!! Never thought I’d see it happen!!
Memory lane. I still remember being a small kid back in 2001 and my dad taking delivery of his brand new Octavia vRS in black. Back then I thought it was the ultimate lol.
Probably was the ultimate back then. Lucky to even get a face-lift mk1 focus in 2001
MK1 Fabia VRS is now a classic car unlike any of the others. Respect to the TDI
I've been lucky enough to drive some of these. Great cars!
I’d like to thank Skoda and Carwow for this race awesome job guys
✍️✍️✍️✍️
Me too!👍😁
Thank you for that great lineup, big fun! A little critics: It is „RS“ without „V“, which stands for the „Hacek“, the small sign above the „S“ in Škoda. So Czech Friends told me. I now drive my third Octavia and the second „RS“.
They never really made bad cars, they just had a bad rep. Glad people are starting to see them for what they are, pretty good value motors.
Yes VW Motors
@@costatitan8458er, no! Built and designed by Skoda in the Czech Republic!!!!!!
@@julianroberts5407 yea far back in the past but not today, they use VW motors and tech
@@costatitan8458 so are you saying they are not made at Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic?
@@julianroberts5407 i say they use vw engine, thats facts google it wtf
The Mk1 Fabia was a great little car, once you remap them it's a little rocket. Will take it to 175bhp and 390Nm.
great video. my fav skoda is 100% the octavia 1 VRS. you can tune it, put a bigger inter coller and turbo in it. also it has great after market support bcs the motor was used in more vehicles the the other ones were. you could make it a project car and build it with some insane HP and TQ
would have love to seen Alex in this race too with his tuned little fabia :)
Damn impressive carwow uploading so many different drag races regularly and being consistent 🙌
That fabia mk1 does extremely good if you think of it having 40hp less than the Octavia mk2
I never thought I would see a drag race between Skoda's
at least most of them are affordable new or used for average people.
Great video. I have a mk2 octavia vrs, but its petrol engine. My friend has the same, but its a diesel and i must say i definitely prefer the petrol one. Was hoping the one here would be the same. Thinking about mapping it to 260hp later this year.
Go for it! Mine (mk2 2011) is at roughly 270bhp and still going strong with 140k miles on the clock
Octavia 2 with a 2.0 Turbo 200 PS petrol engine is missing and you forgot to mention that Kodiak has 4-wheel drive, although it can be seen on the inscription on the trunk lid.
The correct pronunciation is Skoda OK-TA-VIA. Btw that is one shockingly clean engine bay 2:28 for a car this old. Nice video
And it's not Skoda, but let's not confuse the Brits...
Who cares
Matt never disappoints with the Burberry drip
I am proud to be from Czechia. Škoda was, is and will be a masterpiece.
@@ZG0002 Yeah it seems the engine covers can come loose and slip down the back of the engine or something, and result in a fire, so they've removed them. No replacement or modifications yet
@GK Behind The Wheel Yeah mines been removed also. It went back for a number of recalls
@@ZG0002 Ah ok. I'm considering upgrading from my Fabia Mk3 to a Mk4 Octavia 1.5 TSI manual. Anything noteworthy that you think I should be aware of? The Mk3 Octy was pretty solid but I've heard the Mk4 has had a few gremlins...
(Guess that's what you get for having one of the first of the new models)
Very funny episode 🤣
Especially the end with the result of the break test 👌
Used to love my fabia VRS mk1. Cracking little car.
Octavia vrs mk1 actually looks really nice tbh 😍
Definitely aged well! Super handsome saloon!
Can't tell you how enjoyable that was. Still love the Fab MK1, theres something about it I love 😍 If you squint, it's almost a Lancia Delta Integrale 🤣
I am from Czech republic and I love Škoda. I am so happy, because my favorite cars have their own drag race on carwow channel. More Škoda in drag races please. At this moment I love this YT channel more than before, because you are doing interesting but no for maximum views, but for yout experience. (sorry for mistakes, my english isn't good)
you can really tell how Skoda has adopted some styling cues from certain manufacturers which belong to a certain group overtime
VAG
Had a test drive in the VRS mark 1 when they first came out and it drove really well.only downside was the seats were way too hard and I didn't fancy a journey of more than half an hour.
as a former skoda octavia mk 3 RS driver i rally enjoyed this video sooo awsome :)
First time my car has featured on a Carwow video!! The Fabia Mk2 VRS is a great all rounder, fast enough, practical, economical. Just make sure you get one without the misfire/oil consumption issues!
Must be the only non-tuned mk1 fabia VRS I’ve ever seen!
✍️✍️✍️✍️
Make it two 👍😂
That MK4 Octavia VRS looks impressive - done well against the mighty ENYAQ
Looks like you are dragracing with cold engines😳

There is no way that 1.8t octavia is running like it should
235NM torque is nothing to carry that weight
@@Mr330d There's definitely something wrong with it, It shouldn't be this slow or smokey.,
@@CortyCze I have the exact same car and it smokes a lot as well. Must be a common problem with the 1.8 tsi engine
@@timpanlimpan It’s not a tsi engine, its older generation, new ones smoke beacuse burning oil
@@Mr330d I have a 1.8t 150hp 210nm in my beetle tuned to 200hp and 310nm it moves like hell, it goes abaout 15-15.5 1/4mile, no way that octavia is good with time 16.9s
I have the 1st gen Octavia and I can tell you, the 1.8t engine is awesome. Gives you high torque from the start (feels almost like a diesel) and I slightly modified it to 252 BHP. This unit takes it like a champ, really.
Quality content ❤
what I would give to have the MK3 skoda octavia VRS🤩
It's an absolute peach of a car, Stage 1 remap on the Diesel..Rapid
many thanks and next time the whole racing series :D
Many thanks, Mat for this video! Personally, my favorite Octavia's generation is the late second. I own one tuned up to roughly 300 HP so it might have finished first if it had taken a part in the race ;)
The 1st Gen Octavia vRS is my favourite, but that is because I have had mine from new on a 52 plate in red as well, just like that one. Mine is mapped, though so slightly faster 😅
MK1 Fabia is an odd amount of fun for a little derv. Loved that thing.
Yanni's car was surprisingly fast wow
Also love the direction of skoda's designs last few years, its just getting better and better
The Fabia vRS Mk2 had such a unique engine you basically had all the torque right from the moment you touch the accelerator thanks to the Supercharger 🤘
@@TrueSkyl1n3 also known to be unreliable but I don't really know how true that is. it needed more maintenance due to the nature of it being a small engine that's twin charged but if that maintenance was done it was solid
