After doing a replay of Reignited, I think there's another piece of evidence supporting your idea that gems can bring things to life. The first rescued dragon in the Peace Keepers world (Titan) says "Look at how our treasure has been stolen and turned against us." In the original game, the line is slightly different (and possibly flubbed) - "Look how our treasure has been turned against us, and stolen". Titan, however, was clearly pointing in the direction of the gnorc guard in the room in the original game. Sure, there are other potential ways to interpret the line, but your idea fits the confines of the game's story line neatly.
I just realised something. About the potion used to animate gems and turn them into Gnorc soldiers, it's the same potion in those cauldrons in Cliff Town (a level in Peace Keepers), which explains why, when you lit them with fire breath, a gem pops out of them.
There's also some interesting lore tidbits that the Japanese version of Spyro 1 throws in. Against popular belief, all the signs in the game AREN'T just game tips, but there's also added world lore on some, and on top of dragons actually talking about Gnasty a LOT more in the Japanese version, there's lore signs that talk more about Gnasty's direct involvement in the world (His crystalizing the dragons weakening the big religiously important "Tree of Life" in the Bestmakers, being the one to PERSONALLY cage up all the Fairies in Lofty Castle), as well as just some tidbits on his personal life, where he keeps a diary, the chase section of the boss fight being his personal gym, and the reveal that Gnasty's Loot? Treasure he horded up and planned to give as a gift to the first person who willingly became his friend. ...Basically, what I'm saying is: *This fandom be SLEEPING on some fun stuff just writing off and not trying to translate the stuff in the Japanese versions of Spyro 1 and 2* gHDSKGHJ
Any of the Japanese version tidbits are not considered into Spyro Reignited Trilogy, so it's safe to say that anything not in the American manuals, such as the extended Prologue, isn't canon... for the moment.
Wait... perhaps he wasn't the only gnorc they made; because if I remember correctly, there are gnorcs that work at Dragon Shores. It could have been that he was just the one who decided to revolt.
This is possibly the best lore reason why Gnasty Gnorc exists, let alone the Gnorc kind. Plus it wouldn't be too far off that the Dragons created Gnasty considering their Prideful and arrogant nature, if that's the words to describe them based on what we know of them thus far, could be a cool way to throw in this piece of lore in a potential Spyro 4, even if it's some throwaway lines being NPC banter.
Couldn't it be that not all of the enemies we find used to be gems and some of them just drop them because they were carrying them? After all, Gnorcs seemed to be a species that used to exist in the Dragon's lands before Gnasty started with his magic tricks and Gnasty Gnorc might just be one of them. It also makes sense that he carries a bunch of purple gems with him and orders his minions to collect more gems so that he can cast his magic spell on that stolen treasure and make even more soldiers for his army
It wasn't just the Gnorcs that existed before Gnasty, the Wizards and Druids in the Magic Crafters, and the Fools in Dream Weavers were definitely some other already existing nuisance that plagued the realms that may have allied themselves with the Gnorcs, or were just unleashing their own brand of chaos upon their homeworlds once the dragons were crystallized. The Gnorc presence in Magic Crafters is almost non existent, so it could be that the Gnorcs left this homeworld alone because the Wizards already dominated the area and it being a warzone of infighting amongst each other, with the Green Druids, Tornado Wizards, Armored Wizards, Storm Wizards, and Blue Wizards (they don't seem to get along with each other as evidenced by a few unique interactions found in the various levels). The Green Druids are constantly pranking the Blue Wizards, who then attack in retaliation in levels like Alpine Ridge. The same is true of the few Tornado Wizards that are in the High Caves casting their spells towards the Blue Wizards. The Armored Wizards might have some sort of alliance with the Green Druids, evidenced by the duo in the homeworld that stick together atop of a pillar, and the 2 armored wizards that attempt to defend the druid gatekeeper in front of the supercharge, and in Alpine Ridge, one particular Green Druid raises a Alpine Beast from a pit, which the Armored Wizards seem to have tamed. Lastly in Wizard's Peak, the Blue Wizards have some sort of alliance with the Storm Wizards, as the Snow Gnorcs that the Summoner Blue Wizards create will not harm them in any way, but will however attack the Armored Wizards as the last Summoner channels his inner Leroy Jenkins and charges through the Armored Wizards while creating an army of Snow Gnorcs to squash them. Judging by the numbers of the Blue Wizards they may have been planning an attack on the Armored Wizards at the end of the level, but were mostly thwarted by Spyro before the final assault could begin. The Storm Wizards are probably direct subordinates to Blowhard, due to their heavy presence in and near their boss' portal, but whether or not he was actually allied to Gnasty Gnorc or was an independent threat in Magic Crafters is hard to say. The Fools were definitely allied with the Gnorcs because of their presence in levels like Lofty Castle, and Haunted Towers, but certainly not created by them. Before Gnasty Gnorc launched his attack they were probably just a collection of pranksters that were mostly kept in check, but with the dragons gone, they can play their tricks and pranks indiscriminately ranging from mild like raising/lowering platforms, to harmful like turning the Dark Passage creatures into demonic beasts with their lanterns.
You're theory on Gnasty's creation is great and lines up perfectly with one I've always had. But if I may add a little something extra from one of the later games. In A Hero's Tail we were introduced to a different type of gem known as the Dark Gems which were purple in color... LIKE THE GEMS GNASTY WAS MADE OF. What if one day when the beast makers were trying to create the ultimate creature, they accidentally mixed up some smaller dark gems with the purple gems they intended to use for Gnasty's creation? Seeing as the dark gems have some kind of twisted powers that polluted and corrupted whatever land they touched, Gnasty being created from dark gems could potentially explain why he has such horrible hygiene, a rotten to the core personality, and an unsightly appearance. Also, as everyone else said, that editing was divine. You make really good videos.
This background does make sense to some extent. It would also explain why Gnasty didn't turn Spyro into crystal. Gnasty doesn't have anything against Spyro because Spyro likely wasn't around by the time Gnasty was banished. However, this backstory for Gnasty Gnork could also explain Spyro's origins. Perhaps the reason why it was said that Gnasty was no threat wasn't because of how dangerous he was, but because they had a contingency plan. That contingency plan was Spyro. Spyro may have been created in a similar fashion that Gnasty was created. Out of gems. This would explain how all the dragons know about Spyro and were confident in him being special. Not only would this explain Spyro's unexplained existence, but also why the beam didn't target Spyro. The beam that turned the dragons into crystal likely didn't recognize Spyro as a dragon.
I like this theory. I'm sure the beastmakers didn't mean to make him ugly, they were just experimenting. Nevertheless, gnasty resented his appearance, and didn't like being looked down on by the dragons. I still wanna stick to my theory that they provoked gnasty on purpose, knowing his spell wouldn't crystalize spyro, thus giving him a chance to be a hero, like a rite of passage. They did get a little worried at the end, as one of the elders was crystalized a second time trying to prevent spyro from seeing any harm from gnasty, but of course, he turned out to not really be a threat at all, even to spyro. If gnasty does come back, I hope the dragons treat him better, or learn to. He didn't ask to be created, he was ridiculed for what he was, and was ultimately humiliated by the smallest dragon, proving to him and everyone else that he's a joke. Can't be good for what little self esteem he had. He'll either try harder, or shut himself away, becoming a broken hermit who hates the world, but especially himself.
I always had this weird thought going through my head even as a kid that Spyro was kind of an anti-hero figure who had an attitude but overall meant well, but that in reality the Gnorcs theoretically were actually the good guys if you twist your mind enough and combine it with the other dragons mistreatment of Gnasty right from the start. This applies only to the first spyro game, the other "bad guys" were true threats to the worlds. But Gnasty was just a joke made by the dragons for their cruel amusement. The disgusting dragon family used Spyro as their pawn, and Spyro just wanted what he was promised: fame, money, and lady dragons. The worst thing you could say about Gnasty Gnorc is that he overreacted, but if we don't know the full story how do we know how bad he really was or if he really did overreact? Another possibility is Gnasty Gnorc was in on it. He purposefully didn't imprison Spyro because he was fulfilling a role and knew he would lose---hence his pathetic boss fight lol. Lets' get game theory on this
@@UltraCoolSuperOne97 Under that lens, perhaps Gnasty was the one who stood up and struck back against his cruel creators. He managed to obtain the knowledge of how to turn gems into Gnorcs from the Beast Makers, and stole as many gems as he could and raised an army. Let's also consider the plot of cancelled Crash 5 game, where Uka Uka manages to corrupt the elder dragons. Perhaps they had enough darkness in their hearts for Uka Uka to take full control of them and maybe this darkness stems from the fact that dragons tyrannized Gnorcs. It would be interesting for innocent little Spyro to find out that he's not much of a hero, but more like a 'slave catcher' at worst, and an 'enforcer' at best. After being rescued by Spyro once again, the elders would have a lot of explaining to do.
I like that this still goes along with the implication that the Dragons, in their hubris, were still rather rude and dejecting. I could never really blame Gnasty considering the opening cutscene, and if this were true it'd only double down on how kinda justified or at least understandable Gnasty's response was. Poor dude was just pushed too far and dejected by the ones that created em'
You know... The gems having different amounts of life magic *would* explain the valuing system. Why red gems are worth 1, Why blue are worth 5, Ect. The higher the amount of life magic in a single gem, The more it's worth. This is actually a really cool idea.

Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any female gnorcs in the first Spyro game. That should at least prove that Gnasty wasn't born by natural means.
The only thing with your backstory here is that he couldn't have turned his stolen 2k treasure into his army since most of it is just loose in Loot, all the gnorcs around the dragon worlds are made from treasure the dragons still had, maybe a spell cast around the same time as the crystalization spell
Cool as a theory video. If I may ask, what software, programs or methods did you use to edit, move the camera in game, crop characters with animations and find in-game files like character animations?
Thankful for this video because I was used to the storytelling in TLoS and getting tossed right into the game after a brief cutscene left me very confused about the world’s lore 😂

This is great! Still loving this game after I played it on the PS1 when I was a kid. I've always wondered why there aren't any female dragons or maybe they aren't shown in the game? Could you make a video about that? :)
One thing I want to know is how come he didn't turn Spyro into a crystal as well? Was it because he was on four legs instead of two? Or was it because he was just a little dragon and didn't think he was a threat? Or is it just because if Spyro would have turned into Crystal as well then we would not have a game. My boyfriend always says that if Spyro was turning to Crystal there would be no game. But thank you for explaining the backstory to Gnasty Gnorc. I always wondered what a Gnorc was when I first played the game when I was a kid😂
Gnasty Gnorc was a simple creature, hated by dragons and used the gems to create a army of gnorcs to invade the Dragon Realms. Until Spyro show up to save the day by freeing the dragons and defeating Gnasty Gnorc!

soldiers made from gems sounds very orky like how orks in 40k are not natural creations they dont zogin need females they are made of spores that endlessy create new orks for a good Fightin
The plot, the edit... GIVE THIS MAN A MEDAL!
AND a raise! ❤
I thought you were gonna say, “The plot, the edit… GIVE THIS MAN CREDIT!” 😂
Yes he deserves a medal. If I worked in metal I would definitely make it one and send it to him if I knew how to send it to him.

Toys For Bob just needs to hire Canadian Guy Eh as a writer already.

I always wondered if Gnasty was made of gems! are you going to do a video on the other villains?
Can you cover ripto and the sorceresses back stories?
Gnasty Gnorc was a simple creature, hated by dragons and used the gems to create a army of gnorcs to invade the Dragon Realms. Until Spyro show up to save the day by freeing the dragons and defeating Gnasty Gnorc!
love this!!!
What if all the gems that are randomly laying around, that haven’t been stored in a chest, are corpses?
Educated Extrapolations...ahh, fancy language aside, this is a decent theory you have conceived.
1:01English.
Gnasty: Simple?!
Gnasty: No threat?!
Gnasty: UGLY?!
THAT DOES IT
Finland.
Gnasty: YKSINKETAINENKO?!
Gnasty: ENKÖ OLE UHKA!?!?
Gnasty: VAI RUMA!?!?!?
NYT RIITTÄÄ!!!

honestly he feels like ripto has taken his position like king k rool However, in recent years it has become more prominent than ripto.
12:26 Why didn't Spyro get turned into crystal? Explanation???
There is actually XD
"Spyro was the smallest dragon, and because of that, Gnasty missed"
And that's it 🤣
@CanadianGuyEh Wait really? Well, that's super odd. Well, I'm not going to think about it that much.
1:47 one of them was Aaaaghhh
what about all the gnorcs in dragon shores from riptos rage?
You did an amazing job, That Gnorc is just too dang smelly for his own good.
Or was Ripto the creator of the dragons and they banished him as well?
Does anyone else just feel bad for Gnasty Gnorc after this video?
Im basically accepting this as cannon unless its directly contradicted by something
Gnasty Gnorigins!
Classic insomniac = sarcasm/satire. I miss 'em.
Gnasty Gnorc is valid, the dragons fucked around and found out with that ugly comment 😂
Who did the 'YOU'RE UGLY' at the start there?
Anyway, this theory of yours is a good idea.
Yo.. you might be on to something with this theory on Gnasty Gnorc origins and I like it 🤔🧐👍
