I wanted to tell you that your previous driver videos (we just got back from a mid-week golf holiday and I'm just now seeing this one) helped me do two things. 1) Manage to keep the ball in a playable position off the tee and 2) have more confidence standing on the tee. As a result, my last two of five rounds ended in a four over 76 and a six over 78. The first times I've ever broken 80. It feels good to do that, finally, after playing off and on for 30 years. After all but abandoning my driver for years (just lugging it around, seldom hitting it), I've recently watched all of your videos on this topic, and I think I've made a breakthrough. Your setup videos are particularly helpful - so many other videos have failed to explain it so simply. The club head first approach, how to take those steps with your feet to establish your base vs. ball position. That was task #1. But then being conscious of trying to cross over your forearms ... that was what really clicked! I teed off on hole #1 a couple of days ago and hit a 300yd bomb right down the middle. I said, "That was amazing - what did I do??" LOL. Just have to keep at it! Thank you for the UA-cam channel, Rick. Best Golf instruction channel on UA-cam, by far.

    Rick,
I play off 14 and have been struggling to find a draw until recently. I watched your older 3 series stop your slice videos and did as suggested. First I paid attention to my grip, then the face angle, then my swing path. I just got in from playing some of the straightest golf shots over 36 holes ever, shooting 10 over par and then 8 over par. I also put one of my drives at the back of a 382m par 4 green for one and sunk the 2.5m putt for my third ever eagle.
So, thank you so much, please keep up the great videos. You are an inspiration. Simon (New Zealand)

Just watched a video on ball design, Callaway graphene. Anyways, I thought besides cutting the ball you could do a pressure test. Put the ball, cut or not or both, and take it to a width of about 35mm. That's shaving off 7mm from the diameter and test the resistance. That will show you how hard or soft a ball really is. And what you should expect before hitting it. Of course the outer layer is important. Softer covers grip the club better for more spin and better green stopping power but not good for bad driver shots. Harder surfaces on a driver usually cause it to spin less resulting in less slicing and perhaps more roll. There's a few cover materials and they cover both hard and soft core balls. So can we do a video on the outer covers and what that means with respect to swing speed, face contact, feel, spin, etc.
Also lets look at some standard range balls, from different brands, and what to expect when you go from a range ball to a regular ball that's made different. Does the material of range balls affect how the ball reacts to good or bad shots enough to cause a player to misjudge their playing? If it slices easier and they fix their slice on the range, could it result in bad draws on the course?
I've seen both Wilson pro staff which hit very well and titleist which I actually havent had much luck with. So, let's look at compression and range balls and cover material. Thanks Rick.

Watched this ONE video the day before a round of golf and ended up improving on my scorecard by 8% from my previous hit out; mainly due to being able to hit it straight. Immediate impact! Excellent video Rick! There are no 'tricks' to hit the ball better. These are reminders of how to remove poor tendencies from your swing. Good golf swings are clean and simple. Don't add any gimmicks to your swing. Follow tips like this to keep things as simple and pure as you can. Well explained! The last point about aiming is important and so easy to do! I always do this method. When you address the ball you can't be thinking 300 yards down the fairway, but you can set up your body and swing based on a point 6 feet ahead of you. Focus only on that alignment, whatever happens next will happen. The other good point you did but didn't explain was: approach the ball while looking at your aiming point, line up your club, and then set your feet. This gets your feet and swing set up at the perfect comfortable distance from the ball. Don't set your feet then place the club at the ball, you'll be introducing some error into your setup. Good instruction!

All three points are so good! Think the grip point is specific per individual tho. I used to have a very neutral grip but had an open club face at point of contact consistently so I adjusted to a stronger grip (to close the face more) and now I can hit the ball more consistently, on the other hand, Rick is the PGA Pro and I am some amatuer shmuck! Love the videos Rick, keep them coming daily.

I watched this several weeks ago. In the back garden I hit whiffle balls off a mat (similar to a driving range). My focus is on the back of the ball and I am trying to control my path like you show with the two head covers. My grip is neutral and I try to insure that the club face is square to the target. There is a stake driven into the ground 25 paces out and every once in a while a bill will hit the top of the stake or just in front, it's actually kind of cool. My swing is basically coil my torso, relax my arms and swing the club in an arc. Sounds easy, I try to it 4 or 5 dozen balls at least 5 times a day. Now is is almost automatic. A few days ago at the driving range my 7 iron shots were 155 yards, it was 145 yards. I am 69, I haven't been able to do that for the last 5 years. My 4 wood goes 210 yards or so and rolls out another 10 or 15. Driver goes 230 to 250. Just now, in the garden, a 35 pace group (11 of 12 shots) is 3.5 paces wide and 5 paces long, not sure on how to control distance. Thank you for the 3 simple tips, the have been great.

Love the videos Rick. Would be great to see one about what type of shaft to have on your clubs (based on swing speed?)
