  • I bought a new Leupold VX-5HD riflescope recently that came with a customizable dial/turret. I've had it customized for the Hornady "American Whitetail" Interlock in 150 grain after testing several different types of ammo. However, AFTER I settled on the Interlock bullet, I began watching a lot of UA-cam videos on one particular round I had not initially tried and have no prior experience with - the Federal Fusion 150 grain. So, I kind of went back to the drawing board to see which of these two proven deer slayers would reign supreme, at least for my rifle. Come check out the results!

    I don't understand why you're complaining about the accuracy of the Federal Fusion ammo. Come on man, sending those rounds down range through a tree trunk and getting 2" groups.....that's outstanding !!

    The Interlocks are a proven bullet. The .30 cal 150 Spirepoint Flat base design was the FIRST Bullet Hornady sold in their lineup 75 years ago in 1949. The iinterlock ring inside the bullet jacket was added in the 1970s.

    My Ruger American loves the 165 grain Hornady Interlock in .308, the Federal Fusion, not quite so much. But, every rifle will have its 'favorite' ammo, no matter what you might try to get it to shoot something different just as well.

    I love the Federal Fusion. Shoots great in several of my rifles (.243, .30-30, .308). Actually the best of many types of ammo tested in each rifle. Gel tests show Fusion has superior terminal ballistics as well. Very consistent expansion, deep penetration, and near 100% weight retention. Of course, you need to test various types of ammo in your own rifles, but if you find the Fusion to shoot accurately it's really a no-brainer choice for hunting. Thanks for the video!

      Interestingly enough, the 180 gr. Fusions group better in this gun than those 150. They’re just about 2” left and 2” down. (I’ll have a video on that hopefully, once it gets a little cooler. 102° here yesterday!)

    Great Video! I have that same gun in 308 and another Kimber Hunter Boot Campaign also in 308 and they both shoot very well with the Hornady Interlock 150gr.. But also the Hornady Custom lites with the 125gr SST are ABSOLUTE TACK Drivers! That extra lightened recoil in those Kimbers make a world of difference when your gun is only just over 6lbs with a scope. And they wife and kids can shoot them just fine, I was glad I gave the 125 custom lite a try... and Zero issues at all taking deer out to 200 yards.. I'm sure even farther but I've never taken one farther than that.. I was always torn between the Browning XBolt and the Kimber, both a great guns but after buying my first Kimber I fell in love with the weight and never turned back.. Not knocking a browning at all. I have and have had several but I prefer the Kimbers now

    • @HookLineSinger
      @HookLineSinger  Місяць тому +1

      I love them all! Hahaa. Hey, thanks for that info on the Custom Lites. I will definitely plan on trying those out. I’ve seen where Federal has a Fusion tipped variety now. I’m wondering if one of the Hornady bullets (SST, etc.) is pretty much a tipped interlock or whether they’re likely to come out with something new marketed as an Interlock tipped, since most other companies are doing that (Fusion tipped, Core-Lokt tipped, etc.). Thanks for watching!!

    • @HookLineSinger
      @HookLineSinger  2 місяці тому +1

      @@TroyKSU I see that Fusion has come out with a tipped variety. I hope it’s truly the Fusion bullet with a polymer tip and they haven’t thinned the walls of the jacket. I’m looking for Hornady to come out with an Interlock tipped next. They have something similar (ELD-X, I think?), but again, it has thinner walls much like a Nosler BT. That would not be able to retain its weight like the Fusions and Interlocks are known for. I think the Core-Lokt tipped variety from Remington performs just like the standard Core-Lokt ammo, so if Remington can do it, hopefully Federal and Hornady can.

    Check Mason Leather channel out he has recently tested the 150 and 165 interlock out had 92% weight retention good expansion and penetration was pretty much on par with federal fusions of same weight he tested a few weeks ago both in 308 and by the way that is a super nice rig you got there seeing that vx5hd makes me wanna kick myself in the butt i recently got the vortex viper hd 3-15x44 i was being cheap it was 300 something less and inside bass pro i couldn't tell a difference glass quality wise but that cds turret is nice and im guessing the vx5hd is better at low light where seems like over 50% of my shots on deer happen at and also that gold ring is just iconic
