How to Progress Your Mountain Biking WITHOUT Crashing and Getting Hurt
Вставка

- To make big progress on the bike, you have to take big risk, right? WRONG!!! Over the last few years I've progressed further than I ever dreamed possible, all without any incident, and today I'll show you the process I've been using to help me do so!
I've always wanted a way to show that it is indeed possible to progress our mtb skills without ever having to make some massive leap of faith and risk life or limb. This is a lesson I learned the hard way.... a few times... and yet again recently. This time, though, I decided to make a video documenting the process I take when approaching a new feature or even one that I've crashed on and is now in my head, so in today's video, that's just what we are doing!
I hope you enjoy following along as I take you through the process I have come to rely on over the last few years and conquer this most recent feature that got the best of me, and I REALLY hope that you are able to find some useful tips or tricks along the way so that you too can progress your skills in a safe and smart way... WITHOUT ever having to 'Just send it.'

been downhilling for twenty years (started when I was forty years old). The week I turned fifty I crashed hard in Winterpark breaking my leg. Came home, decided the time had come to give up DH, MX and dirt jumping. So, I sold everything. One year later, bought everything back as I could not stay away. Sixty now and still killing it😁
Nice job mate, 👍
I'm 37 and researching hardtails right now for my first bike. Thanks for the inspiration.
"jumping" is overrated.
@@BlackMan614 Personally, I've been enjoying it, for the most part, for fifty years 😀
@@fartrellcluggins The Carrera vengeance 2020 (currently £350) is a phenomenal bike. The stock tyres have allotof rolling resistance but they grip well on almost anything, are okay in the rain and the sound they make when you put your power down will be so epic! For me the tyres were even resistant to broken glass bottles! The shifting is okay and the breaks are okay providing you keep them clean (unlike me).
“Oh your moms here? You should definitely send it then.”
No If you crash she will not let you ride anymore
Hey mom, look what I can do!

This is awesome, really amazing work Alex!! I've been saying this for years too, you don't have to just send it, work up to stuff! Look forward to riding with you more next year!

I think the fact that Alex first introduced Kevin to mountain biking and how Kevin's the one helping Alex through the feature is a testament to how crazy fast Kevin has progressed
without a doubt dude
@@The_Sampler you two together are like the embodiment of being excellent to eachother
Just like how one of my friends that I introduced to mountain biking, and now he is way better than me.
Yeah Kevin is totally becoming an expert. And man, what amazing trails he has to progress with.

That montage at the end. I wasn't expecting it.
I have to say, that montage actually filled me with so much joy, the music, the editing, the group riding.
It made me feel exactly what I feel when I am having fun with my friends. I cannot wait until I get to feel that again.
Thank you Alex.
It...moved me.
Alex, you're a master. Rider, filmmaker, storyteller.... and human. Very refreshing. Thank you.

This vid litrelly reignited the love for mountain ing in my hart😁
Love these videos. I'm 41, got my first bike 2 years ago. Went full suspension and haven't looked back I'm addicted. These videos are inspiring. So many great videos out there. I just want to keep getting better and going bigger. There are so many positive attitudes and vibes that come with mountain biking. Just send it. Love it. Thanks for making these videos.
Not only did you step up your riding game, sir, but your video editing has also jumped another level. Also, I think we all need a Kevin in our lives.
A Seth and Alex upload on the same day? Christmas came early!
And Eric!!
And porter mtb
This video must have taken a solid minute to edit, 100% worth it though, it came out great. Each one of your videos is a great story
These videos have the better energy than anything else on the internet. You can just tell how much work goes into them. Loved the video man.
The thing just send it is my motto for almost everything. Work not fully done? Just send it. Scared to text a crush? just send it. Writing an important email? Just send it. Some feature scaring you? Send it (but with cation)
yeah it’s similar to just saying “f*ck it” and getting something done
I feel like @steadyspin is the hype man/instigator for every YT MTB'er. We all need that one friend.
This video ACTUALLY helped me earlier today.
There are these drops at this really cool bike park.
I've always had a fear of drops that have a bottom I can't see, which is why I always preferred flat drops.
I did what you said and just got stoked and hopped off the edge no problem and landed perfectly.
When I rode the drop, it felt so much smaller than it seemed.
Thanks so much for the tips! It helps a ton!
It's awesome how your videos have improved. From those first video most shooted in POV to these video with that clear voice narrating the video story and the message. Congratulations Alex 😀👊
This is one of the most enjoyable, well made, positive vibed MTB videos I've watched. Glad to see you back at it :)
Love that song there at the end, went so well with the riding. Rad video Alex, well worth the wait.
Not gonna lie, this has got to be one of the better mtb videos I've ever watched. You tied this together so perfectly and the end when yall killed that trail together really brought the feels and was so inspiring. You're a bad ass man! You've got a fan for life!
Dude, the production quality and storytelling on this was great. Been watching you for a while and I can't believe how far you've progressed. Cheers
Good thing to see you back, Alex. Seriously been missing this channel.
"Yes Alex is bouta post again. Just the motivation ill need to get back on my bike"
Couldn't of asked for a better video🤟🏾
Great to see you back! Your channel inspired me to take up mountain biking and never fails to get me stoked for the next ride.
Keep it up!
Alex, your enthusiasm and sheer joy at this sport has always motivated me. I will go through a macro version of this process as I recover from hip replacement surgery, so thanks for putting your method out here. And Kevin is a nutjob! :)
The most encouraging yet dangerous advice you can ever get when riding mtb, "Just send it!"
If I had a dollar for everytime I saw someone crash after listening to that advice, I'd probably be a millionaire now.
this is EXCACTLY what i needed
I just wanted to say that the editing of this video is great! Love watching you improve not only on the trails but also in content creation! Stay stoked
Your videos have progressed so much over the years, not only your riding skills. Very clean, informative and fun to watch! For a very impatient person, I’ve never once though, “get to the point!” 10/10

Good to see you back. This video is like an old friend dropping by when you haven't seen them in a little while and showing you something cool they've done. Happy. :-)
The production is absolutely beautiful I would rather watch this than any movie.
Thanks for making this. My son is a crazy, risk taking skier who’s now getting into Mtn. Biking. He needs to realize that hucking a double back flip off a sketchy cliff on skis is entirely different than most anything questionable he’ll try on a bike.
Alex I have been a long time fan and supporter. Thanks again for that infectious laugh and motivation to ride hard...... ! Mt Biking probably saved my life by helping me loose weight and generally improve my cardiovascular system. Doc was shocked how it turned me around in such a short period of time. I'll be doing a long distance backcountry ride on Iron Mt in Va for my 61st birthday and you can be bet I'll watch your vids the night before! Keep Rippin it :)
So nice to see a video of yours... feels like forever! Much needed
Bring back some casual POV rides like before, miss those.
The Judah and the Lion feature makes me very happy
Alex I know how hard you worked on this. We all miss your UA-cam content. Your insta content has been awesome and much appreciated.! I'm still healing away here at 17 months post accident. I just wanted you to know how inspiring your journey is, and each edit means something different to each person. For me...it's motivation as much as it's entertainment. Keep up the hard work...Can't wait to see what 2021 has in store for you....
Man, Alex.... This is SO GOOD!!!! I miss having your energy on the UA-cams on a more frequent basis, but boy do you make the waits worth it. You were a huge inspiration in me giving the UA-cam thing a shot and it's been a total blast and a silver lining to 2020. Cheers to all your success and the stoke you've shared with so many. The world needs more of this!
Yay a new sampler upload! :DDDDD
Its funny how different features affect people differently. I send that feature earlier in the video at Kanuga all the time with no fear, but that first step down on Hemlock scares the crap out of me and I've still not hit it.
I was thinking the same thing! I sent that area first try but the gap immediately after that left handed I skipped twice.
@@ethanlong8832 Yeah that gap had me shook for a while too, mainly because it goes right into that corner. I did a whole video series about trying to conquer everything on Hemlock. Only feature I still haven't gotten is the first step down into that corner. I almost sent it yesterday but it was my first run after jacking up my ankle. One day I will get it!
Yeah I have a pretty sizeable backyard (about 2 acres but only 1 for biking) and I’ll hit anything I build, then my dad comes out, then there’s some new sketchy creation of his. Then there I am flying down a hill towards a 30 foot gap.
Glad you're back. Missed your videos and this was one of the best.
Awesome video Alex. Such a great job showing the path to progression and what a great uplifting conclusion. And I'm stoked to go ride now!

Great job! Your editing has gotten soooo good!!! Glad you're back.
Bro how are you gonna get the Stoke levels that high while I’m stuck at work and can’t ride today! That final send train edit was amazing!
Progression on mtb is actually the best feeling in the world...
Yeah, but learning licks on my guitar is an equal pleasure.
Sexy time with my girl feels so good. Sexy time with my bike feels even better!
such a true statement.
So glad to see a new video from you, bud! It was fantastic!
Great video Alex.... Always enjoy your story telling and the quality of you video work.... Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
One of my main problems lies in that I don't have access to progress-able jumps and or trails. I can either Send it, Build it or Don't ride.
Yeah, me too. I haven't found many well built progression areas yet in Oz. I'm starting to dig and build. Don't really have a lot of land where I can do that, currently building some drops in a creek bed in western Qld, competing with the flies and watching out for snakes.
“I’m out of shape” - while conquering Jim Branch.
I’m still trying to figure out how to bike up that rock garden on my first try.
Am I the only one that gets super happy when Alex uploads a new video? Thank you man!
Dude watched all your vids and this was awesome, great story line, great footage, not just POV and the sound of those tires on the dirt - epic. be proud of this
“You should just send it”
Words that are associated with imminent danger.
This should be required viewing to anyone buying their first bike.
I certainly wish I had someone to tell me this when I first started out. Would have saved a bunch of hospital bills.
