I came to Florida in 2003 to my now ex husband. I was abused while pregnant no papers and he stopped buying groceries. I met some people and I was boxing from pillow to post. Had my baby sent her to my parents at 9 months. Got a lawyer and family members sent money to pay her. Because I was abuse I could file for my papers. My first job was at a Jamaican restaurant. I stayed there for 3 months and got another job with the city...went back to school got my bachelor's. My dad brought my daughter back 4 months after she left. Long story short I'm now a county worker, home owner still have my 1 child doing well in school. Farin no easy. You have to be around genuine people and support. You have to be strong and determined to make it in America. Failure was not an option for me. That was my mantra and I still live by it. Be blessed everyone.

This was a great take. Thanks for sharing Dale. I lived in Spain for almost 8 months and while I love my country and our people, I grieved the life I'd return to - not using my phone in public, not being able to walk the streets any hours of the night/morning, not being able to wear my necklace on the outside, not being able to afford basic food items with X amount of cash. Now, while Europe is far from perfect, living the life opposite of what I listed above was perfect enough for me. For some of us, security is everything.
Dear Jamaicans, try as best as you can to see more of the world. You'll realise how much you've settled for - how much better you deserve. Be open to learning a new language and adjusting to other cultures and THEN decide if Jamaica is where you want to live and raise your families.

Dale please encourage Jamaicans to get a certified trade or college degree in a “ skilled profession” A two year degree in nursing, CVT, respiratory and etc. We are needed in those.
CNA is saturated. Remember all over the world is coming over to the US. So, skillful careers is vital. The reason why a lot of Asians and Indians are getting a lot of Visas is because they get educated.
    Get USA citizenship.

In fact, we just had the West Indian parade a weekend ago. There is more of a West Indian "community" We do partners, lots of restaurants etc. LA is a very different beast in comparison to many locations. It has it's own under current of crabs in a barrel. There are lots of brilliant ideas that always start in California but there are plenty of stories/movies of things that go on to people who arrive fresh off the bus with wide eyes and dreams. Dale yeah, I can naturally see the points you are laying here. Migrating for almost every Jamaican truly is a desire to see themself moving in a new land, obtaining opportunities offered to them where they bearly grasp the chance to grow or even further. The thought of migrating for a while or permanently perhaps just increase your livelihood with a thought of your country to improve the way you may see yourself and options. But it's not never easy starting over especially thinking to be in a new environment with different rules, traditions, and people would be a power struggle.

You missed the point. He is saying in Jamaica there is more of a sense of community so you can get by even if you dont have a job.You can stay in your family house if you dont live on your own and you dont have to pay rent.Like he said fruits growing on the tree you can pick them if you hungry In USA where like he said you have to stand on your own.

Dale, wow what an insightful podcast! I'm a Jamaican living in the UK and just came back from a trip to new york and listen.....Everything you said is true...America is so expensive I couldn't believe! I spent 1k in 3 days..on food and taxi and tip! Which wouldn't cost as much if I did a staycation in the UK.
New york was grutty and foul smelling which was a shock...it definitely looks better on the TV.
God bless every jamaican who migrate for a better life, and Dale please continue with these podcast...you're doing a wonderful job, your delivery and intellect is so refreshing to see...Thank you 😊

The video has not even started yet and mi a laugh🇯🇲😅💯.....
I'm not complaining but I learn how to really appreciate my country.
Your speaking facts bro.......The first time I went to new york I think it was going to be all nice and dandy as soon as I went into the city. I'm seeing homeless people strung out on the streets, the place where I was staying at a place that didn't look the way how I expected it to be(not to sound ungrateful but it's true) and it was the project area of new york. Even though it was a vacation I still appreciate it and I would do it bk over and over again because it humble me and teach me life lessons.....however its a place of opportunities and have alot of job 💯.
