    Remember couple years ago I lost my job due to illness that was paying me over 20$ an hour. Was devastated because I was living pay check to pay check. I got another job paying me 11$ an hour, little bit but I had to work that job until I got back another job that pays over 20$. Someone called me from JA asking for money to buy a cylinder and I told him I just lost my job, his response was how come I don't have any money. No sympathy no empathy no concern. Let's just say that's was my last conversation.

    This video is so relatable because a lot of my family is overseas and I never ask them for anything I let them ask me if I want something and I always tell dem the cheapest stuff, the reason y I don’t ask is because this is the same way I feel. I never ask my family overseas for anything and they never offer anything either (which is fine) even though a number of them are in a good financial position. Pride is the main factor at play for me. I also have this urge and determination to make it in Jamaica without having to migrate for a better life.

    Real talk-why isn’t there an acknowledgment that life is rough in America as well? Why call ppl who don’t send remittances “selfish” or “mean”? When ppl send the little extra money they have to take care of able-bodied individuals in Jamaica -how do they save for retirement? How do they put down money for emergencies? Or save to put their kids through college? Or simply enjoy the fruits of their labor by taking an actual vacation to somewhere other than Jamaica? No one is entitled to be vex or in their feelings over not having access to another person’s money. (Caveat: this does not apply to people with children who they brought into the world and are financially responsible for)

    I just realized this bredda is the star of the running movie 👍😂. I appreciate the reasoning... however here's my two cents, It's hard for Jamaicans who aren't earning US dollars, to believe that people in the states have it hard at times. They are just looking at the high currency and feel everyone have it. I have never traveled still here on the island but have full knowledge of these things.

  • @NakisUltimate

    1. Often times the person overseas is the breadwinner of the family that assume the financial responsibilities of the family back home. Considering those family don't have any other source of income/social safety net like pension, for some people sending remittances and maintaining yourself in whatever country is a big sacrifice. Sacrifice meaning you put the family and priorities first. You don't have the time or opportunity to step back and do anything you genuinely want to do for yourself cos you have to value your money and time in line with priority.
    2. Jamaica is undeniably expensive. Like Jamaica, the person overseas is fighting for pay rise and if they cant get it they sometimes end up doing multiple jobs. When prices in Jamaica continue to sky rocket and the person overseas isn't making much more, that puts extra stress on the person overseas cos when 100US could pay the bills back then, now they gotta be sending 300US for bills. More sacrifices for the person overseas and how does that come? That person will either have to do extra work or end up with less savings for themself.
    3. A lot of Jamaicans have no regards for mental health issues. A person overseas away from home automatically induced stress. Having to make all those sacrifices to make sure your relatives are good, in that person's mind, there is little to no room for failure and they always on the go. Any shortcomings and they get screwed, they family back home is the one that suffer which through having those thoughts in your head only put you through stress and depression.
    4. I don't know if people back home ever look at these perspectives before instead of jeering those who have to do multiple jobs to stay afloat.
    5. When jamaicans and overseas nationals have social media tit for tat, you sometimes see the narrative that overseas people have to save a whole year to come Jamaica. That statement is so funny because if someone has to save for years to visit somewhere only shows how expensive and unaffordable a place is.

    • @Nesha1994
      @Nesha1994 Рік тому +7

      It’s stressful. Sometimes your next 2-3 paychecks have already been claimed for some emergency like you getting sick or having to fix your car. So you’re trying to find a way to pay your bills and eat to get calls from people who don’t even work begging.
      It’s cheaper to vacation in Jamaica if you don’t tell family you’re going and don’t stay at the family house. Remember that’s it’s not simply going on vacation when you go back. You’re bringing back money to give out, money to buy food for the house, you’re filling up everyone’s tank that drove you, you’re sending down barrels, you’re taking everyone out, you’re bringing things for everyone in your suitcase including the clothes you brought for yourself, everyone is sick now and everything doesn’t work anymore. You’re coming back on that plane with barely any money left, barely any clothes you brought down and your credit card bill waiting on you…to then get calls for more money.

    • @lovekingdom5581
      @lovekingdom5581 Рік тому +1

      💯 but really its all about management. Sometimes you have to take care of yourself first and the ppl backhome just gonna have to fend for themselves unless its kids your mining. Nothing less. Stop mining grown able bodied people!

    Bro I’m answering my phone and I ain’t gonna tell any lies that I don’t have any money to send… if I see no reason to send money I’ll say I ain’t sending it.
    More time it’s just the appreciation and simple thank you goes far.
    When you send 100$ if a $10 hour you get pay 10 hrs worth of work to make that reach you.
    I don’t think people don’t want to send money it’s the lack of gratitude and appreciation.

I have lived in America for 33 years and I had both Family and friends ask for money or items but it feels like it’s never enough. And a lot of them are ungrateful because they will criticize the amount you able to send or the brand name items you can afford to send not taking into consideration how had it is out here dealing with racism, bad weather and making ends meet depriving our responsibilities to try to send a money back home. Honesty is the best policy Begging is not cool.

Like the mortgage Has to be paid, light bill, phone bill, food, school, all the necessities in life we have to work for everything, it is quite rare we’ are getting anything for free. In the beginning stage you were going through childhood trauma, your mother and your father were not there You got smart. You have a growth mindset. This is why you are in the position of being an entrepreneur. You took a situation and made it a better situation for your future. Enough respect!

When you send money for school fee and uniforms and people choose not to go to school or flunk out, what is your family supposed to do? When family send soccer shoes to go practice with scouts and find our a year later t he person wasn't going, what should the stressed out person do? When barrel after barrel show up with food and no one want to cook but want more money to go eat out what should the family in America think? Its draining!

    Here's the thing....sometime ppl in the U.S are struggling also and will never ask their Jamaican relative/ friend because they understand life rough all around but the gratitude is super important and if u only talk to someone when you a beg summen that relationship nuh genuine.

    The only person i used to send money to was my mother because I am obliged to look after her. Anybody else mus go work, same as how i have to work a foreign. When i went out there to live for 4 years, i was surprised at the many jobs advertising but yet in some communities you had young people who didn't want to work. Also i found Jamaica a place where you can easily hussle money. I ended up with 3 businesses. Some people just want easy life, so i leave them to suffer.

    People from home don't understand the situation. They don't understand that most times you don't even want to go to the mail box because it's filled with bills. People back home will tell you they aren't going to Western Union to collect no $100.

    The unemployed Jamaicans need fi go look work. I would not be sending my hard earned money to any adult in Jamaica who ain’t working unless it’s a to help out a really tough situation or if it’s for my child or parents well-being. No other adult or person is entitled to my money! Not even a cent. Do they know how I make a living? Jamaicans in Jamaica should not feel entitled to someone else taking care of them through remittances. This is quite appalling and downright sickening. What kind of lazy, dependent adults would I be enabling? What a piece a brightness! It helps now one.

    You right on all fronts, but some times we make a promise, and something more important springs up unexpectedly,There is always a new bill in a farin.plus some Jamaican don't need the money its wants, and they do not spend the money wisely .but we should always try and help.so instead of sending money .buy a laptop or a tablet for a school as.
