Talk about the Jamaican community in the US. The one time I experienced racism in the US was by a Jamaican doctor and, I just didn't knowhow to process it. I was so happy to see and talk to a fellow Jamaican and the after she was pleasant she just became so racist, asking me why am I there

I remember one Labor Day parade being pushed by Haitians behind the jamaica truck it was so crazy . It was the first time I realized Caribbean separation.
I remember calling about an apartment, agreeing to come to the place and sitting outside in the care with my husband and watching the people turn off the lights and close to blinds to act like they aren’t home.
There’s a reason Marcus Garvey came here and was fighting for the black diaspora , it goes DEEP.
Black Americans feel lost of identity and I’ve witnessed them choose a flag and go to our parades and Caribbean people ostracize them.

This is a fantastic podcast. A lot of people in Jamaica don’t know how good they have it down there. They run blindly to the US thinking it is just going to be milk and honey all they way mostly because they get the wrong impression from their family members and friends who come back on vacation. It’s terrible to have to learn the hard way but many people do because nobody told them what to expect.
I lot of them dnt want to hear it when us black US citizens tell them. Even on his previous post, ppl dnt listen in the comments

Americans on a hold look down on people from the Caribbean, because we are a third world country. It’s like they feel like all of us are suffering and don’t deserve better.
And thats weird because they take from us to build their country.
They tend to look down on melanated immigrants because they are regarded as usually coming to their country to work for less pay and do jobs that their native born people consider themselves too good to do.

Tell them Dale!! I’m living a predominantly white community and one evening between 8 and 9pm. I was standing under a street light and a couple came out their house and saw me and they started gesturing and the drove to where I was and they parked for a few seconds and no words were exchanged. They went around the block twice and did the same thing of parking at my feet. They drove off and they called the police. They told the cop that there were two suspicious persons walking and talking in the neighbourhood. So it’s not lie for just walking and being black can get u locked up. Might I add, I was wearing a floral scrubs

Your podcast is on point Mi G .. I remember when I came here a kid at school asked me if I came here on a banana boat .. I wanted to kick his face off but I stayed composed. It was my first time witnessing fights in school between whites and blacks and hearing words I never heard in my life. America introduced me to racism and Jamaica introduced me to classism… One other thing why Black Americans (not all of them) don’t like us is because we work hard for what we want and work several jobs if we have to. We don’t depend on the American government for a handout. We go out and work for it and they despise us for that work ethic.. But like I said it’s not all of them because you have some hard working ones. Just like how you have hard working Jamaicans that are here and also Lazy Jamaicans that are here as well.

Some Jamaican men seek to take advantage of women who are ready to assist them financially. It’s not an easy road here at all.

I'm supposed to migrate in a couple months. I've been travelling there for years but visiting and travelling are different. Watching this video made me more aware of what to expect. It also shows that no man is an island, you mustn't living in isolation when you are there. Keep the RIGHT company. Be apart of the RIGHT communities.

Very good episode Dale. You touched on a lot of things that people from the islands have no clue about. I’ve lived in the states since the late 90s and I still have a hard time navigating this country and all the racism and stereotypes.
I’m on my job right now and I am just listening to all the things that you are saying really enjoying your conversation. Your topics that you choose to elaborate on is on point and 100% accurate. I totally agree and you when it comes to relationship. The treatment of the police. Living in a neighborhood that you are not welcome. Going to different service entities that you are also not welcome This is the Culture An every day lifestyle of America. Downright racist.
Very accurate as a Caribbean living aboard. I have these thoughts daily because I was born outside but raised here and well aware of the differences. The older Caribbean are very blind sided by a lot of what he is saying.
My baby cuz who attends school in the states was told by another kid that his skin is disgusting. I'm talking about a 10 year old child. Racism is taught.

Bad things happen all over the world often, and similarly without provocation. Racial profiling happens a lot all over America, and there seems to be no real law established to fully control it.

RACISM is in EVERY STATE: some are just more discrete than others. Southern & Midwest state (more open about it), but don’t exclude Northernmost states…it’s definitely here.
There are Jamaicans 🙋🏾♀️that TRY to speak to friends, others back home about the disparities you’d face, but it the allure of coming to Amerikkka for ‘better opportunities’ that have people blinded.
I wish every Jamaican had the opportunity to come here, it can be nice, but it’s not a bed of roses 🌹

The following-the-rules thing reminds me of an incident at a DMV. I overheard a man telling a young guy, " Bowy dem have rules up yah, you can speed and broke stoplight and dem things deh like Jamaica. So I said wait then don't we have the same rules in Jamaica, the man said to me, Yes but you know seh a yard so you nuh affi follow dem. So I said no the same way you act here you should respect your country enough to follow the rules there. The Man said, no sah dem can deport we from here, dem can't deport we from Jamaica.

Growing up in America I used to get that all the time from white people in school "I wasn't talking about you you're Jamaican not black" & black americans as well used to exclude me saying "you're not really black you from the islands or you Jamaican". And coming up to England I've learned that a lot of Nigerians really don't like us

Bro u speak for all of us who didn't know where to start from,am a Care giver and I felt like a person with a n uncureable sickness the way how the client you're caring for treat you sometime they look down on us for being there for them lol they will at times ask u if u can used a washing machine or if we have nice forest, lake etc SMH The things we undergo some telling u that u can't sit on their sofa or put ur bag on a chair SMH I've encountered so much from this job .

Thank you for pointing out the difference between certain Jamaicans and other Caribbean people abroad and the fact that they hate us, it’s solely based on classism I would say based on my experiences.
Caribbean people envies educated, well established Jamaicans whom aren’t from poverty as they believe or assume we should all be like them.
They do love the poorer Jamaicans thou as they get along perfectly (I guess they have something in common).
Regarding with what happened to you and the police I believe this happened predominantly because you have locks as some persons with locks are gang affiliated or they are believed to use drugs alot, it’s a stereotype but yeah that’s why that happened to you.
I would advice all Jamaicans moving to the USA to get into tech via training thru a trade school such as ITT technical institute, college and ect.
Also regarding what he stated about moving into a mixed neighbourhood if your a upper class Jamaican the worst mistake you can make is moving into a black neighbourhood, especially one that isn’t wealthy as in millionaires and billionaires that are black living there in high numbers otherwise your in for a life of hell, because in Jamaica we have a very classist society plus the cultural differences which came from British imperialism you will stick out like a sore thumb in black communities, you will have a very hard time connecting with people even thou they look like you, your gonna realise that you share nothing in common with them.
Which will lead to them resenting you and worst also you can’t really rely on diverse cops in those areas as they view you as the enemy simply because you were not poor like them, so overall bad idea.
I would recommend moving to a predominantly white neighbourhood or as he side a mixed one but not a poor white neighbourhood as that’s just as bad as the hood even worst some might say.
Regarding what he mentioned about loans being rejected based on your skin Color I’ve never herd of such nor had any of those experiences abroad but I guess it can possibly happen as the world isn’t perfect, to counteract this I would suggest doing your loan applications online as everything can be done online these days.
Its not a human who approved these loans, it’s a system (electronic) just ensure you meet all the criteria’s for said loans, just read all of the information which highlights what you need also more is always better, anything you can add to display a healthy financial status add it.
Getting a credit card is a smart way to build your credit but be responsible with said credit card and never max it out NEVER!!!
Also there are a lot of card companies that are created solely for this purpose just do some research to find the best one for you.
Lastly the best advice I would give is just to get your information from the source, federal institutions, state agencies, banks directly (read everything on the website EVERYTHING) and credible institutions. (Don’t rely on hear say)
don’t give people information that because they feel their status is “upper class “ to move into a “white “ neighborhood “‼️ YOU WILL SEE YOUR”class” means nothing! just your skin!!!! they don’t want YOU EITHER AND IF YOU DO GET IN THEY WILL TERRORIZE YOU UNTIL YOU LEAVE ‼️ foreigners (island folks) don’t see white people as a threat because they kiss ass on vacation! they’re in YOUR TERRITORY SO THEY PLAY NICE🤨they’re on VACATION! … come here and they’re attitude towards you will flip‼️

My new favorite podcast! Loved you in Sprinter, Dale. I remember driving home 1 night in NY. I don’t know why I was pulled over. I wasn’t speeding. Seat belt always. I made sure I pulled over in a well lit place. I think a gas station. They said I was driving from lane to lane (of course, with my indicators). 2 Caucasian white cops asked what I had in the bottle in the cup holder. I told them it was grape juice & it really was as I handed the bottle to show to them. They asked me to step out of vehicle & did a breathalyzer & of course, passed because I wasn’t drinking & they let me go. Damn eediot dem!

Some overseas Jamaicans treat locals here really poorly when they visit home. I worked in tourism for over a decade, and most complaints from staff was about Jamaican tourists from overseas. It was definitely an eye opener to me.

This is unfortunate. However, it goes both ways. Ppl in Jamaica sometimes drop the level of service when they realize you are Jamaican. I know this firsthand.
Some hotel workers in Jamaica treat their fellow Jamaican visitors like dirt. We don’t always get the same treatment as the white tourists. In Jamaica the hotel industry is very segregated to the point where the good things in the country are reserved for tourists. Who are the locals again? It’s like they don’t exists.

Yup! I was told by a Cuban white "You're not black, you're Jamaican." Obviously, he sees being black as a bad thing.
If asked by a Black American if you are Black (when It might be pretty apparent to you) what they're asking is if you are Black American. It's possible the Cuban person was using the term in the same way.

Side note: If black means "Black American", someone needs to get educated. Saw a video recently where a girl was referring to "Jamaican" as a race. How dumb can we be?
