As a protestant male (so... pretty far removed from being a Catholic nun!), I think I have a lot of preconceived, negative ideas about what a convent or monastery life would look like, but this looks so very peaceful, beautiful, serene, and I see a lot of love, service, and peace here. You're family pays the Church the dowrey for you're living expenses and schooling. My oldest brother was a Roman Catholic Priest at one time he won a scholarship to study in Rome. He was Ordained in St Peters Basilica
They are also supported by the wider church. government probably if the building needs repairs and the wider community around them, this is certainly the case here in England, for example the British government has funds and grants set aside for the repair and maintenace of religious buildings if needed. Most communities support their churches and religious institutions in various ways and as best they can here in the UK and wider Europe as well.

It's important for people to know that if religious are cloistered then they are nuns, otherwise the women are sisters.
