THIS PLACE IS POPULAR - HERE'S WHY! VAN LIFE IN EUROPE CONTINUES

  • And we're back on the road! After last week's van repair worries, our campervan Daisy is fit and ready to take us on new adventures around Germany. This week, we head into Bavaria and discover a town that has a lot to live up to - but is its reputation deserved, or is it all hype? Spoiler alert: the thumbnail might give you an idea ;)
    We also try baked goods called Schneeballen that the town is famous for, putting them to the taste test. Will Stephen's ever critical mind dig deep to find something positive? Or perhaps Dan ends up disappointed? Either way, join us as vanlife takes us to a place the likes of which we've never seen before as we delve into the streets and history of a town that was saved from destruction by someone drinking litres of wine (yes really). Sounds like the place for us! Oh yeah, we also indulge in Christmas in the middle of summer...gross!

    Great video again fellas, thank you. It brought back memories for me: when I was living in West Berlin, a German friend of mine was marrying an Austrian and they decided to get married in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and I was to be one of the witnesses for the civil ceremony (unfortunately I had too much to drink the night before and was “ill” the next day so they had to find a replacement witness 🙄) they had a service in the big church there the next day. Nice weather, good commentary, lovely scenery. Thanks guys! Are you able to say yet when you'll be in Furtwangen please? Can't be long now by the sound of things. Please, please show lots of clocks: in museum there but also in the tourist shops, along with prices if at all possible. There are silly wee wall cuckoo clocks with just one weight, better ones with 2 weights that are either 30-hour or 8-day and then very large ones with 3 weights which are musical. If at all possible, can you ask shop keepers if they sell cuckoo-quail 8-day wall clocks? They tend to be just cuckoos and those with music, but ones with the quail call at each 1/4 hour appear to be very rare.

    When does evening start? It depends. It used to refer to sundown, but with different time zones and climates, that no longer works.
    Typically, afternoon is the time between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., and evening is the time between 5:00 or 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 or 9:00 p.m.
    So, you're both right. :) But 6:00 pm is the most common, plus the evening news comes on then.
    Pinocchio was set in an unspecified Tuscan village north of Florence.
    Ah, doing laundry, a necessary evil. I have a small, portable washer in my little house, no dryer.
    It can wash most things, except quilts or sleeping bags. I have to drive to a laundromat for those. To dry, I hang on hangers on a metal wardrobe stand with wheels and a top rack. For underwear and socks, I use a three bar towel holder. It works. I do have a clothesline in the back garden, but it's old and rusty, so I don't use it. I bought a retractable indoor/outdoor clothesline, but I haven't installed it in my kitchen yet. Too many other things that need done first.
    Jon in rural BC, Canada

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  Місяць тому

      Ah now the start of the evening news is possibly the best indication yet...except, it does depend what channel you're on 😉 I think 6 sounds about right though 😁
      The joys of laundry and all the complications and contraptions that come with it, it's very much like a puzzle and it certainly sounds like yours is one with many pieces there! But we find a way to make it work don't we. On the worst days, washing is a nightmare...on good ones, it might even be therapeutic I'm told. We're yet to experience the latter strangely enough...!

    Finally time for my new favourite lads! And what a place you took us to, thank you! ❤ It"s funny that we all think that these kinds of pretty places looks like a Disney movie, cause they found inspiration in actual (historical) places. So we think these places look "unreal". (When It"s art imitating life.) But to most of us I guess they are. Rare these days and so idyllic. If you liked this town you might like Visby on Gotland island in Sweden. Also medieval, a wall around it, listed ny Unesco and pretty houses, although not as colourful, but with lots of roses climbing on them. Love that place! I think with the hanseatic league they had a lot to do with the Germany of it's day. Take care you two and Daisy! 💕

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  Місяць тому +1

      Good evening! Always happy to be called someone's new favourite lads 😁 You're right, we forget these famous stories and fantasy locations are usually inspired by real things - see when we went to Stow-on-the-Wold recently and found the famous "Lord of the Rings" door that allegedly inspired Tolkien. But yes, it's not often you get the chance to see them, and Rothenburg has drawn attention for its looks by various artists and creators. It feels wonderful to immerse yourself in something that feels closer to fiction than reality...certainly compared to your average town!
      A quick look at Visby and we're sold already 😍 That would be fantastic to visit if we get the chance, I guess taking a ferry from the Swedish mainland.

      @@comealongdear Good evening! Well since I look forward to seeing you every week, and being so curious and happy to sit down and watch - I'd say you fit the description! 💕
      Reminds me of something you said, in I think your first video on YT, about looking for magic. This is a bit of that magic I feel, that beauty and the feeling of stepping into a fairytale, a painting or a fantasy film. But it"s actually reality, and you are standing right there, you can reach out and touch it! Turns you in to a kid again almost. I love that!
      Oh, wonderful! I love coming there (summer time is when it really comes to life), and when it"s Medieval week it really is like stepping into a fairytale (almost by Tolkien)! Yes, you can take a ferry from either about an hour south of Stockholm (Nynäshamn) or from Oskarshamn in Småland (kind of halfway between where you were in Skåne and Stockholm). Gotland hardly feels like Sweden, it is a world of it"s own. We are just lucky to be right next to it. Ah thank you for putting that info here - funnily enough I (Dan) did record myself saying about Chitty Chitty, but figured the section of me talking in the van was long enough so I cut it out 😂

    If you're using YT to help with the costs, then make more videos a week to excelling the proceeds.

      Well, we have thought about it, and realised to do that would mean that we'd probably have no time for anything else, not even a beer 😉 Good idea though and maybe there's a way to do it, other channels manage and we'd love to know how! Personally I think it would drive us insane to do 2 a week though 🤔 😂
