Not as useful as the volume, though. Also, for the 4th tip, if you have a window already in full screen mode and you want another one in the desktop to be in dual view for the other one, you can enter mission control and drag that windows, place it onto the full screen window you want, wait for a second and it merges them in one full screen thing. I use this 3rd tip all the time! Great videos!!!
Hi! could you please help me?that volume key trick is not working on my mac. i am holding down the shift key and clicking on the volume keys but its the same.where am i going wrong?
@Snazzy Labs, pin this 😊 00:21 *Tip #1* Mass edit filenames in finder and it's super handy 01:41 *Tip #2* Move the volume slider in increments of one quarter this is awesome for slight micro adjustments or just barely 02:03 *Tip #3* You can, actually hold, down the command key as you drag the background window 02:15 *Tip #4* Snapping functions built into recent versions of windows and mac os just seems behind in that regard now. Yes there are applications 03:06 *Tip #5* Bar comes up and it defines the word that you've selected it'll will look for it on wikipedia etc. 03:59 *Tip #6* Screen share your screen 05:14 *Tip #7* Re-arrange the menu icons 05:44 *Tip #8* Customize your tool bar in the finder window 06:54 *Tip #9* Create shortcuts for applications that don’t have the one you want 08:24 *Tip #10* icloud keychain access saves every wi-fi network password you've ever logged into on any of your devices
I disagree. The previous videos on mac tricks were definitely worth watching, this video here shows the most basic stuff like "Hold Command to do X" or "Did you know app X is a thing". This video might be addressed towards casual users but as a power user, you should have known all these tricks to be honest. I mean, #4 was basically a huge feature in the macOS keynote a few years ago, why is it a trick now to know about it? Not trying to sound snarky, I'm just confused about the tricks being so much more obvious all of a sudden.
To get the popup without force touch, if you're on a laptop or have a Magic Trackpad (non-force touch) you can tap with 3 fingers on the word, and it brings it right up. No keys required!
Thanks for the video, perfect for a newbie MacBook user like me. Just wanted to make it easier to browse through the video, so here is a list of all the tips: Tip 1 - 0:18 - Mass edit file names Tip 2 - 1:26 - Change volume in small increments Tip 3 - 1:52 - Drag a window in the background Tip 4 - 2:13 - Window snapping Tip 5 - 3:07 - Popup bar for words (instead of using force touch) Tip 6 - 3:53 - Screen Sharing (like TeamViewer but for Mac) Tip 7 - 5:06 - Edit the menu bar Tip 8 - 5:46 - Drag files and folders to the toolbar Tip 9 - 6:54 - Create your own shortcuts Tip 10 - 8:21 - Find your passwords using Keychain
After 26 years using PCs, I switched to a MacBook Pro last month. Everything Mac is new to me. I’m still learning and this video was awesome. Thanks for producing the video! You have a new subscriber.
I sighed at the fact that I clicked on another Mac tip video. 100% believing it was going to be trash... I am happy to admit I was wrong and am happy to thumbs up this video. Thank you!
Been a Mac user for around a year, I'm a nerd when it comes to these little this bits. I have followed your other Mac tips videos & every time you amaze me with new tricks . That's why I love macos so much. Thank you for the video.
Ok, been using Mac for decades, and thought I wouldn’t learn anything in there, but yep, I realise I need to watch the rest of your tips videos now.. this is GOLD!! Super useful
Buddy, I just switched to mac due to few software capabilities, but I am slowly learning it through your videos. I feel why mac is so special, now I start the realize why I was using windows for 15 years. Thank you so much.
#9 is literally why I'm now a macOS user. Bought an Air way back for using with Linux, but there were quirks that had me waiting for a version that would actually install on my machine. In the meantime, I had to make do with macOS, and I did what I could to make it "not suck." I slowly discovered that while macOS at first seems like a "one size fits all" kinda deal, it's also incredibly customizable - in many ways much more so than Linux. The keyboard shortcuts thing is amazing, and I love how colleagues are incredibly frustrated trying to use my computer because nothing is what they expect, everything is customized to my particular liking, all the way down to modifier keys for navigating text.
This was an absolutely ridiculously phenomenal video!! I only knew one of these 10 tips going in and I've had a Mac for 8 years. Thank you so much. These tips are going to help me tremendously. You rock man!
Usually videos like this do not contain any valuable shortcut but this certainly was an exception. I learned a few new tricks for my Macbook. Thank you very much!
zollotech actually it depends on the pitch you play it at, if you higher the pitch then it will say yanny if you lower it, it will say laurel. If you can’t hear that specific pitch you will here the other word.
Another great tips video. Lots of things I knew at one point, but had forgotten! I got a weird sense of nostalgia seeing you “Scratch SSD” icon on the desktop! Took me back to my formal video editing training circa 2008/2009!
That dictionary lookup shortcut is amazing. I'm studying a university degree in my second language, so being able to quickly look up a word in the text I'm reading without changing apps and breaking my concentration is a godsend. I've also been looking for how to one-touch shutdown or restart ever since I switched over from Linux, so that was a great tip for me too! In fact, 6 or 7 of these are going to serve me and help improve my workflow.
The word lookup works for me without using Force Touch by tapping the word with three fingers. I don't know if that is something I have set myself or if it is a standard feature because I have never started over with any mac, always restore from old to new so I don't lose any information, even these tricks. :)
I can't speak for a brand new Mac but on my machine running MacOS High Sierra there is a "Look up and data detectors" option under: System Preferences ⇒ Trackpad ⇒ Point And Click.
Each time you make one of those videos, I feel like I don't know at all how to use my Mac... And I love it ! It feels like I have a brand new computer every time !
Some GOLD in here, great work! (#8 was fantastic! I dragged Photoshop shortcut to top finder window, and now easy drag image into PS has never been faster.) Now in only CUT and PASTE was added... lol
You can cut and paste items*! Just copy whatever you want to ‘cut’ and then use CMD+Alt+V and there you go! It’ll ‘cut and paste’ in the desired location . *It is actually called “move”, buuut ... we are more accustomed to hear the former expression.
For cut and paste in Word or Firefox I use extra keys on my mouse. Gaming mice are really handy for productive use, as you usually don't use your right thumb, but with a gaming mouse there are buttons which you can bind to anything (at least with the Razer Synapse software).
Tip #5 is called "Look Up" and you don't have to and force touch or remember shortcut keys. It's available on any Mac. Just control click on the word and select the top menu item 'Look Up". You can use a two finger click using a trackpad if you have the secondary click with two fingers option enabled in settings/trackpad/point and click The other one about screen sharing can also be accessed from messages. In messages start or open a message with the person you want to share screens with and open the "Details" tab in upper right corner. Screen sharing is the first icon next to their name and looks like two computer screens. Using messages is nice because you don't have to remember their Apple ID and also can send them an alert to see if they are available and ready to accept the screen share.
Like some others, I have been a mac user for many years (25+ years) and thought I wouldn't see anything new, but alas, I was surprised. I found some very useful tips I wasn't aware of. Great job on the video
I think Mac OS is the best desktop operating system. I’ve used windows since I was very young, and recently I bought a MacBook and I honestly don’t know how I survived with windows. Mac OS is amazing
Bought an expensive Windows computer recently, after seeing videos like this on MacOS I'm seriously regretting that now! It seems so much more powerful, beautiful and logical than Windows.
Tip number 1 shows up - Me: "Oh I knew that!" Then came the rest. ME: "WTH???! WHOA...this is all completely new to me! LOL, thanks for this video, very cool tips!
I thought I'd know the tips and that I’d waste ten minutes, but I actually learned a few things that surprised me! (3, 4, 6) Here are the tips for other people like me that feel the need to hurry through: 1. Batch rename files 2. Hold Shift+Option when you adjust brightness/volume for fine increments 3. Cmd+drag background window will move it without making it active! 4. Window snapping - click+hold on the green full screen button on the top left of the window 5. Define words with force touch (I personally have it set up to tap with three fingers) 6. There’s a Screen Sharing app in MacOS, you can send a request to an apple id to see and control their desktop! 7. Cmd+drag status bar icons to rearrange, you can drag down to remove them. Some app icons need to be disabled from their app. 8. You can drag files and folders into the Finder toolbar. You can put an app there, drag a file to its icon to open in the app. (the app tip is nifty, I had only put folders there, as sometimes my favorites would disappear from the sidebar and I would have a hard time reaching most used folders) 9. You can create new app-specific keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences -> Keyboard -> App Shortcuts 10. iCloud Keychain Access saves any wifi network password you’ve used, you can copy it from the app after you authenticate as an admin.
Whilst perhaps not as cool as the Windows snap version (not that I'd know), 'tip 4' how to snap a window to have 2 files in clear and even view - and be fully editable is brilliant - and I feel like a goose for not knowing that! I am constantly 'Command Tabbing' to switch from one file to another - but now I don't have to... Awesome! Great Stuff!
I was not really expecting to learn anything new, very happy to be proven wrong. Thanks for the tricks! The volume increments will be particularly useful.
Tip No 9 was incredibly useful. I've just done it to OneNote where a shortcut key to center align text was not available by default where as Align Left or Right where. I had to work out how to make it work for a nested menu item, which if anyone is wondering was resolved by entering the Menu Title as follows: Format->Alignment->Center
Really cool. Most tricks videos out there are all about things everyone already knows. I did not know any of the tricks you presented here. Just 1 thing, tip 5: You can have force touch with a Magic Trackpad, AND, you can also set a regular trackpad to use triple finger "tap" or click to bring up the dictionary, Wikipedia, etc. I always prefer gestures to keyboard shortcuts. So I thought I'd leave this here. Thanks for the video. Very nice. Best, Raphael
@Aaron Moses You are so right. I feel the same way as I also keep watching different videos to find new shortcuts and this video takes the lead. Usually none can show anything I don't know already. @Snazzy Labs you surely gave some great tips. Knew already 6 out of 10 but the 4 made my DAY.
I use DashLane and would recommend to almost everyone. It's not 100% perfect though, but still worth the $150/5yrs price I paid. I'd give it 95% rating.
@@matthewraven95 My sentiments exactly. Dashlane (free version) was my first password manager and gave me constant headaches with boggled login info, lost passwords and a constant shoving match with Chrome's password saver, right up until it flat out quit functioning on me. I've used LastPass free for a year now and my one complaint (more of a nitpick) is that the mobile app is kinda inconvenient.
Just starting out with a Mac, been a PC/Win guy since 90's, just fell on to your videos since I started to look for a vesa mount for it, and some tips. I need to watch more of these videos
Thank you so much for these tips. Ever since I started college i would always use my laptop. The one(s) I had were HP and they never lasted me long enough. This is my third year in college and I decided to finally purchase a 2018 MacBook Air, and let me just say that I was the BEST decision EVEERR! The first two weeks it was hard for me to adjust, but eventually I got the hang of it. And just the other day I was able to do the split screen, but I didn’t understand how I did it. Viewing your video made me realize “Ohhhh that’s how you do it” haha. Anyways thank you so much!!
I realize you did this video nearly a year ago but I have to still say THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been a dedicated Mac user since 1999 and only knew 1 out 10 of your tips. Awesome video! Nice to see someone creating Apple-related videos to help people rather than simply to trash Apple for clicks.
Nothing with Apple is "free". You already pay more for the same hardware specs, or worse, and 3-5 times that for any repairs. Moreover, Apple rigs its products so you have to take any product to them. So they can keep charging you 3-5 times the rate a 3rd party repair shop would charge you.
@@borlach321 I'm still using a MacbookPro 13" from mid 2010 that I've upgraded the RAM, HDD to SDD and updated the OS to current on, all myself, from following online tutorials or just educating myself on how things work. Also, I haven't paid for a single app outside of add-ons for Presonus Studio One, since I first got the thing, because my little brother taught me a long, long time ago: It's the internet, dude. There will ALWAYS be someone who figured shit out and 3 more who took that idea and came up with an even better way, and there will ALWAYS be a free, open source alternative to whatever software you might need. The kids at the Genius Store told me, since the release of El Capitan, that none of these upgrades were possible, because they bought into the same myths that you've bought into. Mac's not locked down, so much as it is, kept safe for you until you halfway know what you're doing.
Awesome, clean, and so much useful tips for average Joe here.. thanks a lot for this video the screen sharing was a home run for me.. I still am shocked after 8yrs of being a Mac user; I never knew bout it.
Tip no 5, instead of pressing CTL+CMD+D, you can select the word and right-click on it to get the same result. Thanks for tips no 1 and especially no 10. I don't know why after all these years on a Mac, I never thought of right-clicking on an item in Keychain Access. Pretty handy.
Was thinking this is just another random Mac Tricks video but I was wrong! So many useful things which I didn't even know about. Even after using macOS for many years.
Wow, the things I don’t know about Mac OS. Thank you Snazzy Labs! Another mystery, Where is the iTunes IOS backup stored or what is it called? I wanted to restore my iPad to a prior month from a time machine file as only a corrupted backup is on the iMac
Another useful way of managing windows without having to divide screen into 2 fullscreen windows is you can snap two windows left or right just by clicking the green button while holding Option key. Then select "Move window to Left/right side of Screen" or "Zoom". This video is really useful for my workflow.
Been a mac user for over 20 years and said to myself "he won't show me anything I don't already know." I was wrong. Thanks for the video!
Thanks, Aaron! That's always the goal. If I help Mac experts learn even just _one_ tip, that's success in my book. Cheers!
So true, not just enjoyed but learned a few new (really handy) things. Thanks Quinn :)
Ouch, this made me calculate for how many years I have been using Mac 2018 - 1992, it's more than 25 years ...
I came up with 8 on my own but 8 doesn’t sound like a good number so I had to look online to help me with the last two. 😂
Aaron Moses , same here. Not using for that long, but did think the same thing before video starts. Awesome tips. Specially liked the shortcut one.
The volume thing has been driving me nuts for years ! Wow
The 2nd tip for small increments in volume also works for the screen brightness (F1/F2) and for the keyboard backlight (F5/F6)
Indeed! Forgot this. Nice tip!
Sorry, it's for tip #4
thank you!

All GOLD as usual. Even though I consider myself a power user, I always pickup a few tips.
Always glad to share at least a few new ones-even for the *pros*! Thanks, Caleb!

To get the popup without force touch, if you're on a laptop or have a Magic Trackpad (non-force touch) you can tap with 3 fingers on the word, and it brings it right up. No keys required!
Clever!
Or right click to get that and many other options [which will vary depending on programme you are in].
I use it all the time.
TekGeekHD thanks buddy!
Problem is for me, 3 fingers is bound to middle click on my trackpad. I'd say it's more useful than searching up the word.
also right click "look up"
Thanks for the video, perfect for a newbie MacBook user like me.
Just wanted to make it easier to browse through the video, so here is a list of all the tips:
Tip 1 - 0:18 - Mass edit file names
Tip 2 - 1:26 - Change volume in small increments
Tip 3 - 1:52 - Drag a window in the background
Tip 4 - 2:13 - Window snapping
Tip 5 - 3:07 - Popup bar for words (instead of using force touch)
Tip 6 - 3:53 - Screen Sharing (like TeamViewer but for Mac)
Tip 7 - 5:06 - Edit the menu bar
Tip 8 - 5:46 - Drag files and folders to the toolbar
Tip 9 - 6:54 - Create your own shortcuts
Tip 10 - 8:21 - Find your passwords using Keychain
It can be 2099 but Snazzy will never find a way to keep finding tips and tricks for the mac. 👏👏👏

For tip #5 you can just do it via a three finger tap. Been doing it for years. But great tips!
Well, I'll be darned! Nice tip! Still need the one I mentioned for us old-school KB+M folk!
Secondary (right) click and 'look up' works for those fiddly words 3 finger tap doesn't recognise.
You can just use the context menu if you don’t have a touchpad
Usually videos like this do not contain any valuable shortcut but this certainly was an exception. I learned a few new tricks for my Macbook. Thank you very much!
Shouvik Mukherjee Glad to hear it! Cheers!
No, it’s Yanny, but I heard it in a crappy speaker. Listened to it again on good speakers and heard laurel. I hate it when you’re right.

It's Yanny

ThinkCleverAndSmart It’s a standard feature from the days before force touch.
Ok, but is it still set as standard on new macs?
I can't speak for a brand new Mac but on my machine running MacOS High Sierra there is a "Look up and data detectors" option under: System Preferences ⇒ Trackpad ⇒ Point And Click.
Wow! Videos like this one usually don't teach me anything because I already know, but this one had many things I didn't know. Thanks!

Some GOLD in here, great work! (#8 was fantastic! I dragged Photoshop shortcut to top finder window, and now easy drag image into PS has never been faster.)
Now in only CUT and PASTE was added... lol
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke Now that’s definitely be handy. Thanks for watching!!
You can cut and paste items*! Just copy whatever you want to ‘cut’ and then use CMD+Alt+V and there you go! It’ll ‘cut and paste’ in the desired location .

Tip #5 is called "Look Up" and you don't have to and force touch or remember shortcut keys. It's available on any Mac. Just control click on the word and select the top menu item 'Look Up". You can use a two finger click using a trackpad if you have the secondary click with two fingers option enabled in settings/trackpad/point and click
The other one about screen sharing can also be accessed from messages.

Nice, I didn't know most of these tricks. Haters be hating, but macOS is a genuinely amazing and very powerful operating system.
Agreed!
I think Mac OS is the best desktop operating system. I’ve used windows since I was very young, and recently I bought a MacBook and I honestly don’t know how I survived with windows. Mac OS is amazing

I thought I'd know the tips and that I’d waste ten minutes, but I actually learned a few things that surprised me! (3, 4, 6) Here are the tips for other people like me that feel the need to hurry through:
1. Batch rename files

3. Cmd+drag background window will move it without making it active!
4. Window snapping - click+hold on the green full screen button on the top left of the window
5. Define words with force touch (I personally have it set up to tap with three fingers)
6. There’s a Screen Sharing app in MacOS, you can send a request to an apple id to see and control their desktop!
7. Cmd+drag status bar icons to rearrange, you can drag down to remove them. Some app icons need to be disabled from their app.

Thought I'd get click baited however this is truly a great video, especially the volume tip.
I was not really expecting to learn anything new, very happy to be proven wrong. Thanks for the tricks! The volume increments will be particularly useful.

Ashamed to say I never knew you could make (or change) keyboard shortcuts for commands that don't have one. Great video! Thanks.
I use DashLane and would recommend to almost everyone. It's not 100% perfect though, but still worth the $150/5yrs price I paid. I'd give it 95% rating.
I’m a big fan of it!
Yeah it's great I like it too!
Or you could have most of the premium functionality for free with lastpass on multiple devices
I need to watch more of these videos
if i could 'like' this video twice i would! thank you for the awesome tips!
Snazzy is always right on track.
On macs with no force touch, just right click and select lookup..
this is sooooo Aweseome. Saved my workflow with TIP#1
Not all heroes wear capes
Shared this with my family. Seriously so useful.
Brilliant!!
AMAZING! I have been using mac since 2012 yet there are many things to discover. Today I also learned about Automator, great tool!
Wow thanks!!
Wow! These are some really cool features. I wasn't expecting to learn anything new, but I was pleasantly surprised :)
New Mac user... Thank you... I mean, seriously !!
Your No. 9 tips would save probably months of my life. Thank you!
5:20 - You've got to be kidding me! Not even Linux does that!
The keyboard shortcut trick you showed is a game changer ! Thanks man !
Vincent tobasco Cheers!!
Is there more Israel people who got really excited because of the first tip?
thank you so much. 2, 5 and 10 are valuable to me. never heard of those but i sure can use them plenty in the future.
keep up the great work!
long distance chill lmao!!
😂
Thank you so much for these tips. Ever since I started college i would always use my laptop. The one(s) I had were HP and they never lasted me long enough. This is my third year in college and I decided to finally purchase a 2018 MacBook Air, and let me just say that I was the BEST decision EVEERR! The first two weeks it was hard for me to adjust, but eventually I got the hang of it. And just the other day I was able to do the split screen, but I didn’t understand how I did it. Viewing your video made me realize “Ohhhh that’s how you do it” haha. Anyways thank you so much!!
Love your videos.
It's Palestine though :)
Cheers!
Yes Palestine
😂😂😂ok sure
You bring politics and hatred even here>!? wow
Amazing Tel Aviv Israel Snazzy . :)
Guy Ron it’s not hate when it’s the truth. Hate is invading people country and killing them for years.
Obviously there are still some really handy tricks I didn’t know yet. Thanks a lot. Really useful!
Business Insider *cough*
Ben Jones Yeah their tips suck. I had 8 on my own but needed an extra 2 so I googled about and their tips are weak. 😂
"25 Best" Spotlight. Such a great and secret tip! :) Thanks Business Insider.
I realize you did this video nearly a year ago but I have to still say THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been a dedicated Mac user since 1999 and only knew 1 out 10 of your tips. Awesome video! Nice to see someone creating Apple-related videos to help people rather than simply to trash Apple for clicks.
false advertising!!! Definitely not an idiot youtuber ;-)
I usually hate advertising, but you make them less annoying and, most importantly, you transmit true knowledge.
y2ksw1 Thanks!!
Here's one you never heard of, throw the crap away!
エリック Eric, go to bed. It's way past your bed time.
Nothing with Apple is "free". You already pay more for the same hardware specs, or worse, and 3-5 times that for any repairs. Moreover, Apple rigs its products so you have to take any product to them. So they can keep charging you 3-5 times the rate a 3rd party repair shop would charge you.
エリック your not forced to go to apple for repairs..... you can go to third parties.....
エリック Yes Mac OS is free, if Windows was free you wouldn’t be saying the same thing.
@@borlach321 I'm still using a MacbookPro 13" from mid 2010 that I've upgraded the RAM, HDD to SDD and updated the OS to current on, all myself, from following online tutorials or just educating myself on how things work. Also, I haven't paid for a single app outside of add-ons for Presonus Studio One, since I first got the thing, because my little brother taught me a long, long time ago:
It's the internet, dude.
For the force-touch trackpad for look-up, you can double tap the trackpad with three fingers on an older mac to bring it up also. Great video!
ITS PALESTINE!
It's Israel you ignorant _ _ _ _ _ you find the right word that describes you. give it a good try.
free palestine
FREE PALESTINA
thank you! I was looking for that comment
@@ellalander3694 Ella Slander, its PALESTINE, and why do you care, you are not middle eastern. miss piggy wants attention...
The 1/4 volume shortcut is a LIFE SAVER!! thanks
Its called Palestine NOT “Israel”
These are seriously the best videos ever
"as always stay snazzy" GAY GAY
Awesome, clean, and so much useful tips for average Joe here.. thanks a lot for this video the screen sharing was a home run for me.. I still am shocked after 8yrs of being a Mac user; I never knew bout it.
Been a mac user since 2015. I loved Mac's ever since i got to use them in school back when Mac OS X Jaguar was the top os.
Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
I just ordered my first MacBook Pro, this will definitely come in handy! Thanks for this video!
Men of Tips! Very useful and it shows as... we have daily be updated!
I've been using mac for years and never realized there are hidden tricks like these! thanks man! :)
I just bought my first MacBook ever and this video helped me so much. Thanks!
Another useful way of managing windows without having to divide screen into 2 fullscreen windows is you can snap two windows left or right just by clicking the green button while holding Option key. Then select "Move window to Left/right side of Screen" or "Zoom". This video is really useful for my workflow.
I've been a Mac user for decades and never knew about some of these. Great compilation.
HOLY MOLY, THIS IS THE BEST TIP VEDIO FOR MAC USER EVER !!!
I have been using the mac for over 8 years and just realized those things. Thanks!
Thankyou i run my mac out through a mixer to some nice speakers. That volume control is gold for this!
