I used to think Electro was a way bigger deal than he was as a kid because of his appearance in Spider-Man TAS
I remember he had a different origin and was connected to the Red Skull.
Yeah, he was like.....the red skull's son or something and was also trapped in time? I haven't watched that series in a long time.....I should rectify that
He became larger than life villain in 2000 after his Ultimate version made by Bendis became basically more like Zzzax or Livewire aka a being of electricity not a man with control over it. Also after turn of millennium and modern reliance on technology some writers realized his powers make him a Demigod.😅
that was SUCH a strange change to me, and also such a surprise to have characters like hydro man far more important.

I'm so voting for Shocker to be next. He'd be a nice companion to this video as everyone mistakenly seems to think Shocker is also electricity, when he's actually "shockwaves," sound/vibration. And I do think it's important to note, while Shocker is often portrayed NOW as sort of a nobody joke, he still made those gauntlets...meaning he's far from as stupid as many seem to believe.
It always blows my mind when I remember that shocker was created by Stan Lee in the 60s. I wanna Say ASM 39. I always think of him as a later 70s or so creation

I always found Electro an odd one. He wasn't particularly big when I was growing up (80's-90's) and I think that's largely because he wasn't on the animated series until the TAIL end of it. I heard that he was largely held back from being used due to the potential James Cameron Spidey film, in which he and Sandman were the proposed villains. I just wasn't as explosed to him (or Sandman) as much as many of the other villains. He's not a villain with a ton of depth. He's one of the "Get rich quick" foes most comic heroes have and nothing more than that. He offers bank hiests, a fun fight scene or two, and at most a sort of "hired super-goon" role...not much beyond that. So I agree, he's not really top tier, but he's not exactly bottom of the barrel either, which is why I was surprised Cameron wanted to use him for the proposed first Spidey film ever. Odd choice. He's a second stringer, really, but a memorable one. The few times I did see him as a kid, mostly in video games, I thought he looked lame. I always called him star head. But he grew on me over the decades and eventually, I came to even appreciate the silly mask for what it is: silly fun. Here's the rub with Electro, though. He's actually insanely powerful (same goes for Sandman)...he's simply not intelligent enough to apparently recognize it or go about achieving it in any compitent way. The guy could be God tier. When you think about it, both Sandman and Electro are the only real powerhouses on the original Sinister Six, yet they're often viewed as among the lesser because they're significantly less intelligent than the rest. I mean, can Sandman and Electro even really die? ...like...at all?
Sandman has one grain of sand that contains his very being. And I think at this point Electro is made of energy....so probably not.
But yeah, Electro always needs others to show him how to use his powers....even here when he took out the Invisible Woman it was the Wizard who told him the science of what to dom. Same goes for Ock.
Electro is a lot like Iceman. So much potential power but only so much imagination for it
They have died before a few times. Bad guy always come back, though (But they SHOULD have kept Kraven dead!).
I come to the realisation that the matador is a really smart idea for a daredevil villain, because daredevil's costume is fully red maybe that kinda invokes control over the character in the hands of the matador

Omg I think I just found my new favorite UA-cam channel! I'm a huge comic book nerd, and I've even been working on my own comic book for the past couple of years. I grew up mostly on DC, and just recently have been getting into Marvel Comics, so I'm so glad I stumbled upon this channel!
Glad to have you here. I've always been more of a Marvel Guy myself but have plenty of DC. Just so far my Marvel Videos have been performing better, though there will be some DC coming down the road.

the Gene Colan fight between Electro and DD in San Francisco is great. Colan captured how the city and terrain looked and the landmarks are important to the story
Yes! That's so true. It definitely felt different than stories in New York.
And even then, certain artists like Colan, make me somewhat regret that I will never be able to experience New York from the 70's and 80s. Reading these old comics, to me, can really nail the feeling of some of these places in their time

My first time seeing electro was Spider-Man 2 on the ps1. A goon with electric powers with the ambition to become a god through the bio-nexus device, and his boss fight where he is pure electricity and his whining about, “So close, So close! If it weren’t for Spider-Man, I’d be a God now!!!” in jail will always be in my mind when I see him.
Man do I enjoy these videos. Comic characters are such a unique and mythological medium, and I find how these characters get to where they are so fascinating. It really is an evolution. Also, the slow transformation into an electrican in the episode in particular is really funny

I always wanted to be a writer so i wanted to share my reimagining of Electro to make him a better character, taking inspiration from ASM2 and the mtv show. Max would be an electrical engineer in his early 20s and is a HUGE spiderman fan. He even had a sister (he has one in web of shadows so not an original thing) that was saved by him. However hes constantly bullied at work and put down by his bosses. He eventually gets into the accident and gets his powers. However, instead of going villain, hes horrified and tries to hide but everywhere he goes he causes blackouts. This catches spidermans attention and he follows the source. They talk for a bit and spiderman offers to help him control his powers and fight crime as his "sidekick". Max is ecstatic and makes his own costume and names himself Electro. However, Max gets too greedy with his power. Because of the trauma from bullying, he believes sparing criminals isnt the way and they should be put down, and eventually on a patrol with him he nearly does this to a gang of carjackers. This causes spiderman to cut him off and tell him he needs to seek help. Electro goes home, and lashes in a fit of rage. His sister hears him and tries to calm him down. However when she goes to hug him, shes electrocuted and doesnt make it. This causes Max to snap and go full blown villain, and use his new power to take his anger out on people who wronged him. Including spiderman. Ill also update his costume for his villain look. His hero look will be the classic bright ditko suit. But his villain suit, he burns the suit during his rage. The green turns a dark mossy green, the yellow has patterned scorched marks across his mask and torso akin to his Web of Shadows design, making him look more deranged

On one hand, I feel like someone with Electro's powers should be beyond Spider-Man's paygrade. On the other hand, it's cool how he isn't limited to just Spider-Man books and even had a gun in the event his powers were nullified; he's still not Spidey's smartest villain, but that was a good (if thwarted) idea.
I loved his costume and power so much that as a kid I use draw him having adventures as a superhero. And as the true villain he was I at first thought he was one of Marvel's top ones thank to one of my first sightings of him being in an Avengers annual (giant size? The one with Scarlet Centurion) where they had him working with Dr. Doom, the Mandarin and Doc Ock. Great idea for a video.

13:56 I don’t know about that statement exactly. Yeah there’s plenty of interconnected plot points that get ignored and not referenced at all but even reading newer Spiderman and Spider-Boy, they do still have specific issue callbacks in footnotes.

eh, I was impressed with Electro, he seemed a top spidey villain to me, although i definitely recall him getting downgraded and made a joke later on. I also recall him being given the "gawd" treatment as well, though. Neither extreme is to my taste. Perhaps it's an age thing? Born 1970, Spidey became my favorite character early on & I bought all of them for decades, including digging out back issues; mostly via reprints like marvel tales, but some solid collector stuff too (such as amazing issue 8). I had many of the issues you covered (all the Spiderman ones, inc team ups)
That's the thing about electro......similar to Iceman, he's got these amazing powers but lacks the imagination to use them. Electro could be such a bigger threat, but Max Dillon just wants to get rich. So he ends up just another powered thug

I don't remember if my first introduction to Electro was 60's cartoon or NES Spider-Man game. At least with Spider-Man 2 Enter Electro he was my favorite Spider-Man villain besides Venom and Carnage. I was sad to learn that outside of PS1 game he is pretty much a punching bag like Shocker.
I remember reading that early Daredevil issue and thinking DD must be a big deal cos he’s fighting a siderman baddie

Uh, Joe Orlando has a pretty long resume at Marvel/Warren up until 1967, where it's nearly all DC after (and a couple specials for Valiant).
I would not say his Marvel resume is super long, but yes, I should have specified that this was some of his only Marvel Superhero work

The Most underutilized spiderman villain with so much potential he can easily become avengers level threat if he reaches his true potential
He could be yeah. He just seems to gravitate more towards hired muscle than anything, relying on others to show him creative ways to use his power. Sad really

Not saying I love these stories, but they are very different electro stories (and aborted, wildly different paths)
1988 spectacular spider-man 134-136 return of the sin eater (definitely of interest/good issues)
1993 spider-man 38-40 "light the night" (psychological issues but also absorbs all NYC's electricity)
1997 amazing spider-man 422-23, 425 (rebuilding electro, intro of uber electro)
I loved Electro's role in the Return of the Sin Eater story.
Speaking of Sin Eater, he probably remains my all-time favorite villain for how he caused Spider-Man to just completely lose his handle on himself. In just two story arcs, he really puts Spidey through the wringer.

Electro is what is known in Marvel comics as a Mutate. He wouldn't be dead because the Marvel comics universe isn't our reality. Stuff works different there.
