I think going over the first 10 fantastic four members would be an interesting idea since usually you only think of the original four

On a personal note, I loved seeing this image: 10:04. This was the cover of the very first Avengers comic I ever bought (because I thought it looked scary) and was also my introduction to the work of John Byrne. I still find it to be an incredibly powerful piece of art.

5:17 As matter of fact this is where the MCU got it right. Hulk was in fact one of the founding members of the Avengers. As you said in the next scene of the video, he left shortly after he helped form the Avengers in the 2nd issue.

Who else watched this because they knew the who the first 9 were, but weren't quite sure who the 10th was?
Pym's constant identity crisis makes this a harder question than it ever should be. That guy just cannot decide what alter ego he wants to be. So, do you count Antman and Giantman as two separate members or do you count them as one member who's got different aliases? It's also fascinating that so many associate Cap as an original member and having always been the leader when, really, he's actually the 6th (7th if you count Giantman as seperate) member and exclude Wonder Man as not being a true member until his revival much later.
I personally just count Pym as the Avenger. He has been on the team as Ant-Man, Giant-man, Goliath, Yellowjacket, Dr Pym, The Wasp........he's worn many hats
But then if a new character takes over the mantle they would be considered a different Avenger.....like the three Thor's for example, Don Blake, Jake Olsen and Eric Masterson would be three different Avengers.....yes still Thor......actually.....I'll need to read up on that, Thor was a terrible Example
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn LOL! See what I mean? For what outwardly sounds like a simple question, it gets complicated relatively fast. Especially when you get in deep like we are and know that there are sometimes multiple identities to the same alias, something many more casual folks don't know - to them Antman is just Antman. To us, it's like, well is that Pym, is it Lang, etc.? It's something that tends to throw my friends off, those who appreciate comics and/or superheroes but aren't diehards. I remember I once tried to explain the whole Captain Marvel/Shazam - Marvel's vs. DC's thing and they just looked at me like I was crazy. LMFAO. An excellent example of situations like this would be Robin and how, when it was announced Robin would die, the general press at the time just went with a generic "Robin"...as in Dick Grayson, unknowing that this was actually Jason Todd and Grayson was very much alive and well, and misleading casual people to believe that they were killing of Grayson, leading to misplaced outrage.

Hulk was a defining figure for the first 5 issues of Avengers. Issue #1, they all get together to fight Hulk, fight Loki instead. Issue #2 Space Phantom impersonates different Avengers, Hulk quits. Issue #3, Hulk & Namor versus Avengers. Issue #4, Captain America is brought back, directly because of the fight in issue #3. Issue #5, Hulk accidentally helps the Avengers defeat the Lava Men. It really seemed to me that Stan initially intended Hulk to be a reluctant, abrasive ally of the team.

What about Swordsman? Do we consider Jaques DuQuesne or Philip Javert as a member of the Avengers?
He was the last one I mentioned so I do. Most folks do but as I've learned from the comments several people don't consider him the 10th Avenger.....though he would join the team more properly later on

I was following the antman movie ever since I heard Edgar weight was directing. Really disappointing that Hank and Janet weren’t on the original team
I was rewatching Phase 1, they made a couple offhand comments about the Avengers initiative being shut down, I think it was just between Iron Man 1/Hulk and the Avengers movie that they’re talking about, but it would be cool if they reveal that Hank and Janet were part of a team back in the day, maybe the Fantastic Four, Ant-Man, and a couple other classic heroes were around back in the day
Would’ve been cool if they left a gap where Steve could’ve been a part of a team before he got iced
An MCU reboot could lead to some awesome stuff
The original MCU is like an alternate reality where a few key figures were erased from the timeline
I mean, they currently have the perfect opportunity to reveal that Miles Teller the Maker created the MCU through time meddling in ways we don’t understand yet, coukd be something they play with post-Doomsday
Have Pedro Pascal help defeat the Maker and start a new MCU with a bunch of the same actors but many people recast + characters and concepts there from the start, adamantium, mutants, Spider-Man, fantastic four, life action 616

I would of said Wonderman. If the Avengers made him a horary member after he died. If not Simon Willams then Hercules. Stan Lee really screwed up by not having the Sub-Mariner meet the Avengers. Before he threw Cap frozen in ice in the artic sea first. Had his memory come back of seeing Cap and fighting a long side him and Bucky in WWII. Then had them both join the Avengers. Then had them go on a search for the original human Torch, Toro and even for Bucky's remains.
How about doing a show about the Champions old and new!!!!!

So Hercules was the 10th member after getting tricked by Ares and Enchantress. There is the possibility that Swordsman was 10th as he technically could count as he became a member much later. However, as we was actually a Villain at the time and joined to betray them that he might not count until he truly reformed years later. Ah, forgot about Wonder Man. Like Swordsman I wasn't thinking he counted. I never even heard of this Crescedo.
Wonder Man was really 7th. Hardly for long. As long as Swordy.

I know Spider-man would be on the avengers much later, but, given how even back in 1963 Spidey was marvels biggest cash cow, it's shocking how he wasn't an OG member, especially when you consider Superman and Batman are OG members of the Justice Leauge.
Well he did try to join Fantastic Four when they first started. I think he was meant to be a loner so he could be very relatable to the younger crowd.

To me growing up it was Fantastic 4 and XMen Marvel’s main teams. Avengers for some reason always felt like a cheap attempt at the Justice League.

Yes, I would say Wasp is the first Avenger as well, and clearly we understand that more than marvel did, because on the cover of Avengers #1, we see all five avengers, on the top of the cover, but we only get the names for Ironman, Thor, Hulk, and Ant-man, but Wasps name isn't on, what was the guy who put those names together sexist or something...oh, wait, it's marvel in the 60's, so that's a no duh.

Have you ever noticed how, for years, all super teams started out with one or zero female members? They would add more women as time went on, but the quota for female charter members was one. Until ... What was the first super team that had two or more female members in its ORIGINAL line-up? Not the Avengers, not the Defenders, not the X-Men, not the Justice League, not the Fantastic Four, not the Legion, not the Teen Titans, not the Metal Men... I'm sure someone out there knows the answer.

The New Mutants had Karma, Wolfsbane, and Mirage. The New Warriors had Firestar and Namorita. The West Coast Avengers had Mockingbird and Tigra. The first version of Teen Titans West had Bat-Girl (Bette Kane) and Lilith. X-Force started out with Domino and Boom Boom. But none of these were the first. Care to try again?
