Hey folks it's me Haussmann Comics, this is my brand new channel where I am breaking away from the Batman Countermeasures and trying to reach a different and wider audience. But it's the same Haussmann Comics Goodness over here,
Scorpion & Shocker get a bad reputation. They're fun characters. 2 of my favorites
Me too
Check out my upcoming Spider-Man fan series then 🤝🕷️
Shocker is more competent than people think in the comics too but I didn't know scorpion was too
Shocker is better as a down on his luck goofy guy imo. Similar to Killer Moth
@@Coconut_Prrson In the comics he's actually quite competent but sticks to smaller crimes so he only has to deal with spiderman 🧠
@@MrFox64057 he is in the beginning. But overtime he was made into comic relief to make him stand out more
@@Coconut_Prrson Nah not really, there was a small window in the 00s sometime maybe but he even kicked Spiderman's butt not too long ago
@@Coconut_Prrson it was mostly shows and video games that did him dirty but I think it might have rubbed off on him in a couple comics at that time
They should have given Scorpian more respect and he shouldn't be so easily beaten. He was the first Venom archetype. They didn't just pick a Scorpian by accident. It's a predator of spiders and its an Arachnid as well. Anti-spider-man like Venom
@@AnAverageGoblin *19 inches of Venom actually 😉
I feel like all but the most threatening of villians get this treatment.if you are not the archnemesis or Big Bad, you are eventually reduced to a footnote for most of your following appearances

“Arrghh!!! I’m gonna get Jameson cause screw that guy!!!”
Perfect way to sum up Scorpion’s character. 😂😂😂
I mean that’s all justification he needs lol
It's funny how most Scorpion stories seem to run on the basis that the suit is what gives him his abilities when he was really made into a guy with scorpion DNA, with the same "proportional strength" idea as Spidey, with the suit being more or less an accessory. It's a detail that seems to have been lost to time and continuity.
Although one thing that bothers me is that idk how strong "proportional Scorpion strength" would actually be. Like, it's well documented that the strongest spiders can lift about 170 times their own body weight, which gives us a good idea of how strong Spider-man should be. But I've looked everywhere with every type of search and I can't find how much Scorpions can lift compared to their size. So idk if it even makes sense for Scorpion to be stronger than Spidey just because in nature, Scorpions are bigger than Spiders. But then, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko probably didn't either.
Although if Dr Stillwell, the guy who gave Scorpion his powers, really wanted something that could trounce Spider-man, he could've have made him an army ant man, which can lift 5000 times their own body weight. That would've made him waaayyy outside Spidey's league, but also probably unstoppable by most superheroes so perhaps it's better he didn't.
agreed! you are clearly an old timer or sage, like myself!
@@GenghisDon1970 I'm in my mid 20s, actually. But I still love looking up the origins of classic characters who've been around for decades. It's fascinating, especiallu in comics where retcons are so common.
There's so much we take for granted sometimes, like how we think that Scorpion's suit is what gives him his abilities but it originally wasn't. Or how we think that Scorpion always had a vendetta against Jameson for getting him stuck in that suit. When he originally was just thrilled to have those abilities and went mad with power more than anything. And that he originally could just take off the suit no problem.
@@mrtable2861 they stood out to me as a reader at the time of! sometimes I'd buy in though, often even...it was generally some years between them showing up, so changes in attitude or characterization were often ok to "buy into".
...on how strong the "stronger than spidey" scorpion was, it was often put at lift/press 12 tons vs spidey's 10 tons in the 80's. In most scenarios they basically tie. Lizard was the same, as I recall. In any case, yes, scorpion always had the suite of arachnid powers, right off. the suit was armor (atop superhuman toughness) & the tail a prosthetic...maybe a little more obvious than web shooters & tracers, but mixed super powers with gadgets & gear was once pretty typical for heroes & villains alike. When some writer circa 1990 or so acted like it was all a suit, eyes would roll & a writer was on thin ice whether to be avoided gong forward.
Always enjoyed Scorpion, didn't know he appeared outside Spiderman books, would like to see a video on Electro and Swarm
Electro is absolutely on my list. He was all over the place from Daredevil to the Fantastic Four and Omega the Unknown.
I always appreciated when villains fought heroes outside of their “main” hero. Like Scorpion being a spiderman villain, but he fought Ms. Marvel & Daredevil. Pretty cool! Kind of like iron man fighting Venom, it’s an interesting concept !
Scorpion's actually one of my favorite Spider-Man villains, and I actually own a reprinting of his appearance in Ms. Marvel.
I love your delivery in this video. You talk very fast in a way that's engaging but not overwhelming, and you seamlessly slip great commentary that makes it even more fun. Great work!
Thank you very much
UA-cam just recommended me your channel and its great! Very good quality and quite interesting topics. Been reading comics my whole life and I didn’t even knew some of the things you talked about. Keep up the good work, the algorithm seems to like you! Hope your channel grows and glad that I found it on the very begging
Thank you very much, comments like this one really help me out. Glad to have you on board
He's my favourite Spider-Man villain next to Big Wheel and no I'm not joking
Hey, every character is someone's favorite
Nothing wrong with being a fellow Big Wheel fan. Have you ever thought a Big Wheel Bigman teamup would be ...Big :)
Ruby Thursday is my favorite marvel villain 🤷🏻♂️ lol
@@nooctip I was a fan of when Overdrive stole Big Wheel's Big wheel
I LOVE this channel… SO EXCITED TO SEE MORE!!!!!
That's awesome, I'm glad to have you on board!
This is great! I love old comics.
Well you think that Scorpion should be Spider-Man’s greatest enemy because of the prey and predator concept and seeing that he fights other heroes you think he should be an Avengers threat level along with a few other Spider-Man villains like Doc Ock and Electro etc
Completely agree. Most Spider Man villains are animal based if you think about it. The earlier villains really show an opposition that's animalistic. Scorpion vs Spider. Chameleon vs Spider. Hell Doc Ock is eight limbs vs eight limbs animal wise.
What angers me about this undderated villain is modern interpretations get rid of a VERY crucial part to his story: he hates Jameson more than spiderman. I loved how unlike other villains, scorpion beefed with jameson for making him a freak and trapping him in his suit. He's a consequence of Jameson's stubborness and hatred for vigilantes that comes back to haunt him. It really gives the villain depth that he isnt beefing with spiderman just cause they clash but because he keeps getting in his way to get revenge on jameson. Nowadays, Rhino is the one trapped in his suit or Scorpion is a regular henchman with a power suit. Its crucial to his character that jameson creates scorpion and in turn it backfires on him. Im all for villains evolving over time. I remember reading he FINALLY got out of his suit in one comic...but he STILL hated jameson for what he did. And then issues later that plot point went nowhere and he just seemed to forget about him. Scorpion should have stayed an enemy of Jameson and always be the boogeyman that keeps him awake at night, fearing the day scorpion shows up to his house at night and hurts his children or wife or worse
I recently re read the issues where he loved the symbiote and gets the Scorpion suit back. Smythe builds it for him and uses his hatred of Jameson to convince him to help, he attacks a rocket with John Jameson on it, though Smythe ultimately gets a lot of the heat as he kills Jameson's wife.
But yes, while I don't like a villain to be one note, Scorpion is established early on as mentally unstable and his Hatred of Jameson should stick through.....and ditto for Jamesone as you said. This should always be the one skeleton that won't stay in his closet.
Really enjoyed this video would love to see more C,D tier villan videos
The low level guys are the best guys in my opinion
I've always really liked Scorpion, I found out about him later than other Spider-Man villains but I think he's underrated.
Scorpions superpower is picking heroes in their civilian identities to beat up.
"Alright, I'm gonna beat the crap out of this Bruce Banner guy."
"Alright that didn't go well but this Carol Danvers can't POSSIBLY beat me."
"ALRIGHT. ALRIGHT. I'm gonna leave TOWN. I'm gonna go to this place I heard of, Gotham, and I'm gonna fight this billionaire dude. THIS TIME..."
(and yes i am well aware batman is dc and not marvel that's the joke)
LOL
What if pretending that he doesn't know that he can take off his suit is just a ploy to make his therapists let him put the suit back on to prove to him that he can take it off?
He pretends to have a phobia of his super suit until somebody suggests exposure therapy, he consents to it, lets them make him put on the suit, and then he just skeedoodles out of the window.
It could be. He escaped that way all the damn time
I remember its a villain ms marvel fought early on
wow, I'm a bit older, and always saw scorpion as a major physical threat to spidey, but his degradation was noted over time, but especially it was his mental decline into complete insanity is what sunk his threat level. That PP:tSS-M issue & beating probably was a rock bottom; though I stopped reading much of him by the time he was venom
The Constrictor and Whiplash(Bpacklash) are favorite villains but KillerShrike has always been a fave just fir the name and look. Im sure theres more to him that could be explored but he sems like a Justin Hammer Sponsored & outfitted criminal!
Constrictor is not just among my favorite villains, he's one of my favorite characters in comics.
Good stuff bro, you get a Sub
Thank you, I appreciate it
Scorpion is one of my favorite "jobber" villains. The perfect guy to show up and be a credible threat for an issue or two and then get defeated without long-term consequences for the hero
What a great channel.
Glad you enjoy it!
I love these videos.
Although, if I may make a suggestion: could you put the dates of the comics when they came out?
I can. I try to at least mention the year. Particularly when it's been a big gap but yes I can try harder to get dates in there. Thank you
GREAT video.. Scorpion is a VERY underated Spider Man villain..
Btw i think that this ALL COMIC ART style video is MUCH better than having the narrator make an appearance...no offense..lol 😂
Anyways keep up the great work brother..im looking forward to your new videos 👑
Thank you. I'm kind of going back and forth on the art vs face thing myself. As a narcissist I like to see my face haha. And it's also slightly less editing....but sometimes it also easier to film if I'm just doing audio.....I can do it in my car even.
In conclusion...I have heard you. But am still inconclusive
I'd love to see a video about the constrictor, and willo the wisp.
Will O the Wisp is eventually upcoming in something I'm working on....and Constrictor is one of my favorite characters!
Scorpion is stronger and faster than Spider-Man, which everyone forgot.
A good deep dive would be on Black Heart. He first appeared in a Daredevil comic, yet is known for being Ghost Rider’s arch enemy thanks to the movie, but is he really ghost rider’s arch enemy in the comics? Cus by the time Black Heart started appearing in Ghost Rider comics, Ghost Rider was Danny Ketch, not Johnny Blaze
Holy smokes he takes so long to get to the proper Ghost Rider Comics.....and runs through some very obscure titles.....this one intrigues me greatly. Thank you very much for the great suggestion
The villains created by Ditko in Spider Man are really great
I've always liked the Scorpion as a classic B-List Spidey-villain, especially after ASM Annual #18 where he kidnaps JJJ''s fiancee. I think he's not taken too seriously for several reasons - his motivations aren't "world-class" - he's almost always just focused on JJJ. His tail just looks silly sometimes when it looks like it's coming out of his butt. And having a mechanical appendage just doesn't seem so impressive next to Doc Ock, who has four of them, and they're much longer and more dangerous. I'll always root for him though, the same way I do the Shocker and Jack O'Lantern. EIther way, fun video - it's nice to see so many of his early appearances, especially the more random ones! (it's always more difficult to follow villains since they can pop up anywhere and sometimes you just miss it)
Always loved scorpion as a villain, shame they don’t really do too much with him outside of having him get his ass beat.
I agree
I'm really enjoying your retrospectives. I'd love to see one on Shocker. He's among my favorites of the sort of nobodies. Yeah, he's kind of a chump, but I'll give him this: he REALLY stands out in a sea of green costumes and, for as somewhat dumb as he's portrayed, he can't ACTUALLY be dumb if he made those gauntlets. Also, I always found the misconception that he's electricity interesting. He's actually shock waves aka sound/vibrations.
And I would be able to utilize the soundbite "Shockerrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! I'll chase you to the ends of the earth!"
Just a suggestion! Could you maybe slow down a little bit? Was hard to keep up.😅 I love your input, the editing is nice! And it's always nice to just listen to a comic book history video.
Haha, I have heard that a few times. And I am working on talking slower in my upcoming videos
@HaussmannComics-xd3gn All love man, Videos are very informative😌🙏🏾
Not sure if it would count as "sporadic appearances", but maybe Red Skull? Sure he apeared a lot in Captain America's comics in 40s but after his reintroduction in early 60s he didn't had much screen time until the end of 80s, then again he got missing until Brubaker came along.
It could work. He only had 7 golden age appearances (some of which were written by Stan Lee) then his first many issues in the 60s were all Stan Lee. I'll read them and see if they turn put interesting enough.
But the jump from Golden to Modern age should be pretty cool
Its pretty funny how much he goes after triple J
"There are more Scorpion Tails to come..." Lolz
clears throat* I'm mean "tales" 😅
Scorpion fighting other heroes makes sense because he's pretty much a mercanary
You shock me. I never realized how underutilied Scorp was. They really need to use him mooe
Love scorpion.
Not to sound weird but You got an amazing voice
You went a little Stan Lee @0:06
And a little James woods @1:12
A splash of seth Roger @1:50
Thank you. I re listened to those parts and can kind of hear what you're saying
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn yeah no problem. I didn't mean anything wrong by it btw. I catch a lot when I hear people talk and the way you toned your voice on those numbers kinda reminded me of those celebrities.
Keep up the good work😁💯🔥
I'd love to se you do videos on Rom Spaceknight and Richard Rider/The Man called Nova. Nova the Human Rocket. Villans off hand Electro & Mysterio.
Based and Scorpionpilled
*Scorpilled
I actually enjoy Scorpion. He's one of the few Spider man villians who could be Spidey's equal, but only in brute force.
🕷🕸
🦂
Very enjoyable video. The thing for me is, if he's not right there, I kinda just forget about him. But he's cool, definitely not in my top 5 spider man villains that's for sure.
Can you do Captain Cold or Doctor Doom?????
Doctor Doom is on my to do list. And Captain Cold is an absolute great suggestion, thank you
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn ill be on the look out!
Man I love those old comics.
An episode on Orb would be sick
I agree. I could cover the first orb completely, as he only had a fee appearances, and the evolution of the second orb. Great suggestion
Can you do a video on Mr. Hyde.? One on The Cobra (I always liked the relationship between the two.) ? Can you do The Wrecker, too?
Oh those are great suggestions thank you
8:37 why does his tail have human skin?💀
Haha, great question and observation
video on the shroud?
Absolutely planned, coming.....sometime
The Scarecrow in Batman is kinda similar. Although he was introduced in the 40's and did not return until the 80's.
I am actually currently working on the Earpy Evolution of The Scarecrow right now, his early Appearances are......interesting to say the least
Scorpion is a really neat villain. It's a shame that he wasn't given more respect as to Spiderman's other villains. Also, I always thought that he could spurt acid out of his tail?
I think that was more of an animation thing.. but over the years his tail has changed and evolved
To Haussmann Comics
The confused Idea that Matt Gargan is or was trapped in his Scorpion suit came out of the 1967 Saturday morning Spiderman cartoons. There for some reason they had him trapped in his suit. I guess you can blame Ralph Balkski for that rumor. The cartoon also clamed among other things, that the Green Goblin is not human and was infact a real goblin !
Years later you get different writers apparently with not a lot of correct memory of Marvel Cannon History. And that includes Stupid Gerry Conway who apparently remembered the 1967 cartoon , although in the earlier Spiderman he was not wearing the costume. Someone should really ask Conway about this.
do the chameleon in the near future. please ?
Probably not the near future, but absolutely!
I work with this bloke who seems very confident in his comic book knowledge but I'm not sure he's always correct? We were talking about the Deadpool Wolverine trailer and I said I didn't like the fact that he has sleeves on his costume? He said "Well its comic book accurate!" Don't bloody think so mate? Far as I know Wolverines first appearance was in The Incredible Hulk.... No sleeves!? Obviously I'm too polite to slap some respect into him. Besides he's a little bit bigger than me and we're both in our mid 40's and don't particularly wanna to get fired for arguing over comic books. Can you offer any rock solid intel over this "Rock, Paper Sleeves" debate that'll give me the upper hand in battle should it come to it? Cheers mate.
Not gonna lie, I'm hard pressed to think of a Wolverine costume with sleeves outside of his New X-men leather jacket. A lot of the time he is, in fact, sleeveless.
Also it just occurred to me that he does have sleeves in that film......I'm also not a fan of it.
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn thats what I was getting at, the new movie version. Well as long as he doesn't have Uncanny Mutant Sleeves in the comics this cocky son of a bitch at work is going down! And by down I mean his car tyres! That'll teach him to try and one up me.
Actually he gives me a ride home?
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn The only times I can remember Wolverine with sleeves is when he briefly wore the Fang costume, during the Jim Lee days when he briefly wore the old school "yellow center stripe" X-Men uniform, and more recently, (but not that recent) in his own title he wore some kind of armor that made him look to me like the Constrictor. (ooh, how about a video on him??)
@@BenChanNYC Constrictor is actually one of my favorite villains. I own his first several appearances and they are all over the place. A video on him is absolutely coming
For being the original anti-Spider-Man I dont think Gargan is treated with the respect he deserves
He really isn't. Even once he became Scorpion again he's usually just used as a lackey
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn when Slott had Superior Spidey punch his jaw off and say it was easy, there was no going back
@@Skullry yeah.....as i pointed out in the video I feel he became the 'loser' when the police brought him in to get dressed down by Aunt May
you didnt cover my favorite Scorpion story it happen in Amazing Spider Man like 318 319 where the 2 issues in the first issue Justin Hammer gives Scorpion a new suit with some upgrades but i forget all the upgrades he had to go after some General he gets the General and instead of turning the General over to Justin Hammer he double crosses him and Justin Hammer sends Rhino and Whiplash to go get the suit back oops i forget Scorpion doubles crosses Justin Hammer because he wants to know give the General back and replace him with JJJ i forget the two part and spider man has to fight all 3 bad guys
Can you do MODOK?
I think MODOK is a great suggestion, yes
Should have mentioned that he became Venom, and ate people.
I mentioned the venom thing briefly, but bit the eating of people no haha. Missed out on that
I always have liked Scorpion, the Scorpion I know and love is a bit of a dirtbag that is just trying to get his life together, but is trapped in money problems, and is too caught up in the criminal lifestyle.
Yeah, The Scorpion used to be able to beat Spider-Man and was even stronger than him in his first appearance. No one really remembers that .
He fought Deathlock? Which one? When?
It was deathlok #31 from 1994....there were three different Deathloks in it....and Scorpion was just kind of there
How are you talking in 2x
I just get talking fast when I get excited. I've worked on slowing it down in later videos
The first anti Spider-Man more or less. He and Peter essentially have the same powers if you take away the tail and webshooters respectively.
Though Gargan is stronger and has an incredibly strong grip due to having the proportional strength of a scorpion, a natural predator to many spider species, and being significantly larger than Peter at 6’2” and 220lbs, he is not as skilled in hand to hand as Peter and often lets his anger get the best of him.
Haha, I forgot about his Scorpion grip.....it could also cut things like pincers would despite him not having anything special on his hands....oh Stan Lee
@@HaussmannComics-xd3gn the dude literally ripped off a thick steel door in one issue and he wasn’t wearing the scorpion suit. Even in his first appearance he crushed a granite block to test out his strength and even slice through Peter’s webbing as well with his grip. Spider-Man could most likely perform these feats too but I guess there’s more emphasis on these feats with gargan since his powers are scorpion themed.
I never got why they made the suit green. Scorpions are not green. OK spiders are not red and blue but still
Because back in the 60s at Marvel Green was the color of villains........
At least Spidey can justify the blue and red by adding Man to his name....scorpion isn't Scorpion Man so you're right.....scorpions aren't green
One of my least favorite Spider villains. There’s just not a lot of there there. He doesn’t have charisma or tragedy, he’s just a sadistic jerk.
Scorpion is one of my all time favs, and its a shame they down played him over the last 20 years. I mean he has had some moments here and there, but he hasn't real been a big threat to Spider-Man or really anyone since the 90's. As for Heroes and Villains the ones that come to mind are Vengeance (Michael Badilino), Shocker, Omega Red, Chameleon (Dmitri Smerdyakov), Cyber, and Death's Head II (Minion).
