  • We started our adventure in Fort William at the start of the Great Glen Way.
    Loading our Itiwit 100 inflatable kayak onto the water we didn't realise what lay ahead. Strong head winds and a very full kayak, we quickly realised this would put us into expert mode.

      Always a good idea to cancel if the weather is too bad. I bet you made some great new memories though.

    Great video! I had an itiwit but got rid of it for a hard shell tourer. Itiwits are fantastic inflatables though! What microphones were you using with what camera? Quality sound - sorry that you lost one 🙊

    Great video you two! We have the same Kayak and love it! The qulaity of your video is really good, do you mind me asking what camera/phone you are using and are you applying any filters on after? The colours look very cinematic which I love. We are taking ours at this weekend all being well and trying it with our dog so not sure how thats going to go down lol.
    Cheers. Paul.

      Hi Paul thanks for watching. We use a GoPro and sometimes a Sony camera. When editing I colour grade the footage with premier pro. We are headed up to the lakes this weekend. Have a great paddle.

    Great effort guys, love your passion and persistence. Would love to do the same journey .. we have a x100 but thinking we might need two single seater kayaks.

      Thanks Andy we tried. Next time we will take a proper Canadian style canoe and hope the wind is blowing in the right direction. Thanks for taking the time to comment I hope you have some great adventures.

    What time of year was this? Were the midges bad?
    We're looking at doing the great glen way in x100+s which are dropstitch so more rigit. How come you have single canoe paddles and not double kayak ones out of interest? Thanks! Great video

      @outdoorgaz5  Місяць тому +1

      This was in August and it wasn't too bad for midges. We have single canoe paddles because you get less water in the boat and on a long trip I find it more comfortable. I think you will still struggle with speed in any inflatable as drag is a huge problem. Hopefully the wind is on your back.

    Looks way too much weight in the middle of the Kayak.
    It's doable in the Itiwit 100, but with a hardwood, plywood 12mm floor put in. Easily made & fitted.
    You'll be amazed at the difference, essentially when fully laden.
    I & others have used this same Kayak on many multi day expeditions. It's just a case of thinking about waterproofing the fabric & putting down a solid floor.

    Unfortunately most inflatables don't do well in even a little bit of wind. I have one of the better inflatables out there in Gumotex Rush and while it's been great it still paddles very much like an inflatable. My next kayak will be either a modular or a skin on frame. I still want portability but I need something that will cut through the water properly and track straight on longer touring type of paddles.

      Yeah I think we will look for something similar but we had to give it a go in our trusty itiwit. Thanks for watching.

    I have many inflatable kayaks and have spent a decade using them. Fyi, those aren't good flatwater kayaks. Lakes are terrible as inevitably the wind will shift and paddling into the wind is terrible. It's the wrong hull shape and your wind profile is terrible. Think in terms of a sea eagle razor or even an AE Evo.
    Where those itwit kayaks accel is on rivers. Of course you need some current but if you can have the current at your back your can drift for days. You need to arrange a shuttle.

    • @outdoorgaz5
      @outdoorgaz5  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the tips. We did a long river paddle in this boat and it was great but no chance of going against a strong current. Thanks for watching

      @@outdoorgaz5 yup. i load mine up for multi day river trips. its a lot of fun but its definitely a one way trip downstream

      Hahaha we pushed the boat to its limit I think. Next time we will take a non inflatable
