@@dirckthedork-knight1201 if people didn't fawn over Morrowind they'd see the Dunmer in much the same light as well, hell they even call you the n-word
@@enderman_666 I mean, isn't that kind of implicit? They're the Dark Elves that worship daedric princes and have a fully legalized system dedicated to assassinating your political rivals. Even without the slavery and the racism they were pretty blatantly designed to be the spooky evil ones, Morrowind just brought nuance to that by putting it all in the context of attempted cultural genocide on multiple fronts.
This is excellent. Please do more in this series Edit: since now having watched this to it's conclusion I must admit excellent is NOT a powerful enough description for just how fantastic this was. Despite only being the key points of the history of tameriel up from the late merethic era to the crowning of tiber septim, this has now become by far my favorite means of consumption of TES history. It was concise, accurate, didn't feel like I was missing anything even if it was a very specifically focused topic that also was introducing us to the world of Nirn, and I loved the accompanying animation for the visual guide. Please make as many videos on this topic as you can without becoming burnt out on the series lol
It would be amazing if you did a more detailed look at Alessia's slave revolt, especially since that involved the Elder Scrolls equivalent of Doom Slayer running around covered in Ayleid viscera. Also, I love the fact that you mentioned the issue with figuring out what the hell the Tsaesci were, which is something that the fans have been arguing about for well over a decade.
The Era concept in elder scrolls is like the Age concept of Middle Earth. There was the First Age, Second Age, Third Age and Fourth Age in Middle Earth. While there was the Dawn Era, Merethic Era, First Era, Second Era, Third Era and Fourth Era. Perhaps elder scrolls was based on Tolkein's works.
After Kings and Generals, whenever I hear this narrator, I automatically ascribe seriousness and historicity to his narration. The fact that this content is fantasy also kind of makes me laugh for some reason - the absurdity of the situation is amusing.
Awesome video nice to see you dabble in elder Scrolls lore. Two thinks though. 1. The pronunciation of many races was completely wrong, most notably with the chimer, the ayleids and tsaesci. For someone who knows a lot about tes it takes a bit out of the experience. 2. Some of the smaller Facts where wrong. For example the Alessian empire didn't control the west of hammerfall when the Ra Gada came. Also Nord's didn't know how to shout during Tibers time there, the left that behind Way back in the first era when Jurgen Windcaller founded the graybeards (who only told Tiber when they called him) (fun fact: after his crowning, Tiber actually founded a Thu'um school in Markarth to get shouting back into Nordic culture, but it didn't take off since non-dragonborn people had a hard time learning the voice.)
Yep just to add to some other mispronunications I heard: - Aetherius (pronounced Aetheerius) - Merethic Era (mispronounced as metheric the 1st time) - Alessia (pronounced Aleesia) - Reman (pronounced Reeman) - Stros M'Kai (pronounced Stros Ma'Kai) - Yokuda (pronounced Yokooda) - Hjalti Early-Beard (pronounced Hyalti) - Colovians (pronounced Coloavians) That being said other pronunciations were on point, great job on the video guys! Looking forward to more. It's also fun to mention that while some stories like the birth of Reman may sound pretty far fetched, that's the beauty of TES lore. So much of its history is told through different authors with their own subjective cultural/religious worldviews. The line between fact and fiction can be blurry. The unreliable narrator influence is what makes TES lore distinct to other fantasy worlds like LOTR where everything is often factual.
@@commandy7889 Yep, the only events that we know anything with true certainty are the main questlines of the games, and even that's not always true, such as the fact that every ending of Daggerfall canonically happened due to a dragonbreak. As of Skyrim, for example, it's up in the air whether the Hero of Kvatch, the character in Oblivion who ended the Oblivion crisis, was actually the same individual as who completed the various guild questlines. I remember when I was paying more active attention to the lore (largely before ESO was especially good, and since I don't play that anymore it's hard to keep up with the sheer amount it's added as pretty certain info), a massive question was how they were going to resolve the fact that the Civil War questline had two possible endings, and whether they'd use time fuckery, or simply have the empire finish falling apart by the events of the next game, rending the point moot.
This was a really good video. There is so much Lore in TES it can often be overpowering and trying to think of all of those books you've read to find skill points, something gets lost along the way. This was really helpful to break that down and simplify, looking forward to more
I sort of feel sorry now that I haven't played the Elder Scrolls series. Because this story was a good one. My compliments to all those who made this video a reality.
Literally just got a PS4 a couple weeks ago, almost solely to be able to play Skyrim again, and I'm playing it as I type this....and then I find this video/channel!!? Alongside K&G!! Good god I'm in heaven.
Good video, though I would like to see a video covering the Arcturian Heresy in depth and the story of Wulfharth! Some of the most fascinating lore in my humble opinion. Excited for more :)
A long time ago I listened to a TES lore series, but it was so long ago that I don't remember much of it lol. I haven't even played Skyrim in ages either. Thank you for the revisit to old Tamriel though! Stay well out there everybody, and God be with you, friends. ✝️ :)
having several generation of historic lore in a single video means there's a lot of details being left out. not necessarily a bad thing but important details such as the nordic giving warriors to alessia during her war with the ayleids (which many claims turns the tide of war for the alessian faction), and how the ayleid kingdoms is badly fragmented and in a strong rivalry with each other, allowing alessia troops to defeat them kingdom by kingdom while their rival ayleid king laughing at the demise of their rival kin, is not mentioned, allowing alessia took all the credits. that story of hrol banging a hill to make magic babies is new to me, but then again, it's elder scrolls lore.
This isn't a lore video though, it's giving you an overview so the fight that is happening has better context. You are just looking for the faults for the sake of it.
@@yourtrappedinmygenjutsu this video is based on a FICTIONAL LORE and I'm simply pointing out how some finer details being left out due to the video duration, which is not necessarily a bad thing (as i have said) it simply means those who are not into elder scrolls lore will not know of it. I did not try to find a fault. You're assuming things then blowing them out of proportion.
I’d like to say that a lot of what was said about the Aldmeri is very much up to debate. The lore is very complicated on this, and if aldmeris is actually a “real” place is even up for grabs.
As I recall the lore, the dragons did not teach man the way of the voice. By the mythos, man was taught the dragon tongue by Kyne, when she took pity on man under the rule of dragons, starting the dragon war.
I never understood how dragons fit into the lore, supposedly they ruled all of Tamriel during the Merethic era, but... the Merethic era saw the dominance of the Mer, with them enslaving humans, so who really ruled Tamriel? the Mer or the dragons?
@@ibadurrehman1210 The games have conflicting lore, and they actually excuse it by using the real world as an example of an excuse: it was an ancient time so the history gets a bit hazy by the player's "modern" time lol
Raymond actually you and the video are both right. Kyne took pity on the humans that were dominated by dragons and convinced Paarthurnax to teach them the Voice or Thu'um
Thank you so much for covering elder scrolls history even if it’s just this one video. This series doesn’t get enough consistent attention from the channels that start but never finish. So glad you did it though it brings me back
The only Elder Scrolls game I've ever played was the Morrowind way back in the day. Despite that (or perhaps because of it), this video gave me a powerful wave of nostalgia. BTW I was wondering since you are covering material from various media, maybe you could also cover the lore of some fantastical worlds that exist only in literature and weren't adapted into visual form yet. I'm specifically thinking about Roshar from the Sormlight Archive.
Will you ever consider doing a creator collaboration? Obviously a large entity like Bethesda or the Tolkien estate may not be great partners, but if you ever got to the Honorverse or some other well regarded setting in the hands of a single creator, whose willing to let your work breathe without exorbitant royalty or meddling demands, it would be interesting to have your videos rise to canon or semicanon sourcing on the depictions of the people and weapons involved.
Unlike in the other series, the actions of the humans against the elves here mainly justified after what they put them through. Am I wrong to say this? I don't know because personally, I like to side with the elves in most cases. But in this case, I am conflicted between my personal liking of the elves and the crimes that have committed against humans.
Many elven rulers and preisthoods have been historically opressive and terrible to humans under their rule. While the Thalmor wish to exterminate men, and their upper class is almost certainly thoroughly Ayleid in character worshiping the 'Bad' daedra in the form of Molag Baal there is absolutely no justifiation for the genocide of the Snow elves under the Atmorans and then Norse, nor the eradication of the Ayleid peoples (aligned with the Alessian empire) under the heretical Alessian Order, or even the effective nuking of Somerset by the false god Hjalti. Kyne, Shor and Stun preach mercy above all else, and we should seek to promote harmony instead of war. on a side note the Imperials dont really exist as a race, nor do the bretons, or reachmen. The Nedes are once people with many languages and cultures. By throwing off the imperialism of the Colovians and the dogma of the Altmer all the people of Dawn's beauty can be united in opposition to the tyranny of the usurper gods and many of the selfish daedra.
It's more morally gray than you think. Many Ayleids were not Daedra worshippers, and actually sided with Alessia against their corrupt kinsmen. Only to be driven out of their homeland by blindly vengeful humans (guided by a talking monkey prophet) centuries after the rebellions end. Committing genocide on an entire race for the actions of one faction or it is a bit disproportionate on the Nords part too.
It's less that any one race is bad or good but that one or the other is lead by more brutal and aggressive factions. the thalmor are a good example, they don't exactly represent the high elves but are a faction of high elves who have taken control and pushing forward their eleven supremacy views to the rest of Tamriel similar to the nazi party taking control of germany.
Kinda depends tbh The Ayleids were definitely “evil” by most standards What happened with the snow elves is up for debate, it could have been the nords or elves that started that conflict. But either way did they deserve to have their entire civilisation wiped out because of the actions of a few? The elves of high rock(can’t spell the name) may have done some bad things especially when it comes to the creation of the Bretons but I wouldn’t call them evil Wood elves are definitely one of the more “peaceful” races Orcs are …..orcs really Dark elves are definitely Di*cos no doubt about it But houses like redoran are pretty decent actually With high elves it’s actually the humans who are entirely in the wrong Never did they really threaten human provinces but were constantly invaded And no matter how awesome a man he was having a race forced to acknowledge Tiber septim as a god after everything he did was evil The man massacred thousands of elves and then forced them into an empire they didn’t need just to add more insult to injury So I can definitely sympathise with the altmer Ultimately no race is perfect especially human and elves races

The Altmer probably take the crown of being the single most assholish take on elves in all of fantasy fiction
@@dirckthedork-knight1201 if people didn't fawn over Morrowind they'd see the Dunmer in much the same light as well, hell they even call you the n-word
Seen any... ELVES? ahhHAhaHAhaha
Shoudy cast dies and wizards and warriors rises out of ashes, Thank you for awesome videos.
I have no clue if this is at all possible, but I'd fucking *die* if you guys somehow did a colab with Fudgemuppet
This needs to happen now
Lol yes
This is excellent. Please do more in this series
Edit: since now having watched this to it's conclusion I must admit excellent is NOT a powerful enough description for just how fantastic this was.
Yes they are finally covering elder scroll!!
You have bridged every gap with wizards and warriors !!!! Listen Daily !
They will most likely cover more topics in the future and cover more history of Tamriel.
Guys you have one of the best contents on YT. Please dont stop at 2-3 vids per series, continue as much as you can. Thank you!
I love this! Elder Scrolls has an amazing history to it
It's got some of the juiciest lore out there
@@HVLLOW99 Dare I say, THE juiciest?
What a beautiful animation! Also you did a great job of summarizing important events in Tamriel. Excellent video! Thank you for uploading it.
You keep surprising me with all these great videos, covering a broad range of universes!
Thank you so much!
100% didn't expect this. I'm pleasantly surprised
Thank you for making great documentaries as always! I really enjoyed this one.
One day there will be a movie/series of this.
Love it, just as I'm starting up a new character on Skyrim, great timing.
I reckon this channel should do the battle over coruscant, with all the broadsides it should be like a 1600’s naval battle
The battle in star wars III revenge of the sith
The Era concept in elder scrolls is like the Age concept of Middle Earth. There was the First Age, Second Age, Third Age and Fourth Age in Middle Earth. While there was the Dawn Era, Merethic Era, First Era, Second Era, Third Era and Fourth Era. Perhaps elder scrolls was based on Tolkein's works.
Almost all high fantasy has bases in tolkiens work
Tolkien technically invented/popularized fantasy
Oh my gosh you guys are killing it with this channel, I wish you nothing but success
No way. I already loved your channel, this is just the icing on the cake!
After Kings and Generals, whenever I hear this narrator, I automatically ascribe seriousness and historicity to his narration. The fact that this content is fantasy also kind of makes me laugh for some reason - the absurdity of the situation is amusing.
YEESS ELDER SCROLLS!! Thank you so much for the video. So excited
Yep just to add to some other mispronunications I heard:
- Aetherius (pronounced Aetheerius)
- Merethic Era (mispronounced as metheric the 1st time)
- Alessia (pronounced Aleesia)
- Reman (pronounced Reeman)
- Stros M'Kai (pronounced Stros Ma'Kai)
- Yokuda (pronounced Yokooda)
- Hjalti Early-Beard (pronounced Hyalti)
- Colovians (pronounced Coloavians)
That being said other pronunciations were on point, great job on the video guys!
The fun fact is so absurd and ridiculous I bet is taken from that cashgrab MMO.
All the stupid lore comes from there.
@@asgoritolinasgoritolino7708 pocket guide to the empire 1st edition. This lore exits since The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard 1998
Also I don't like how they completely skipped the topic of dragons, even though they were very important because of the whole Thu'um thing.
14:00 Talos was so powerful he went to the wrong mountain and just shouted across the whiterun valley to high wrothgar in the south.
God damn this really made me miss Elder Scrolls games, hope I get to see another one actually get released before dying of old age, I just turned 25.
Tes lore is pretty much as expansive as you can get for a game series, if you love fantasy, its pretty amazing.
@@deadgum11---I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for responding.
Literally just got a PS4 a couple weeks ago, almost solely to be able to play Skyrim again, and I'm playing it as I type this....and then I find this video/channel!!? Alongside K&G!! Good god I'm in heaven.
Please make a video about the Battle for Doldrey from Berserk!!!
I learned SO much in the first 11 mins of the history of the Elder Scrolls game than I ever thought possible. Truly a great vid!
Good video, though I would like to see a video covering the Arcturian Heresy in depth and the story of Wulfharth! Some of the most fascinating lore in my humble opinion. Excited for more :)
Please don’t ever stop im loving this channel along with K&G
Netflix should adapt this lore into a TV series! I'd watch it!
Anyone but Netflix please. They've already ruined The Witcher, I won't want them to ruin TES too.
@@ikad5229 how about HBO?
@@theawesomeman9821 I'm ok with that. I hadn't seen GOT till a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it, so I think they would be a great candidate.
@@ikad5229 HBO has plenty of competent writers with a history of adapting books, so I recommend them
So glad you did the Elder Scrolls! By far my favorite universe.
Never knew early Tamriel was brutal…
lurk moar, and you'll see, there's a lot of genocide, and I mean a LOT
It’s kind of always like this with occasional stretches of peace
This isn't even early Tamriel. This is late Second Era. Actual early Tamriel makes this look like a cake walk.
By Talos, Emperor Napoleon likes both TommyKay AND Elder Scrolls? Truly the chaddest military man of all time.
@@joshjames582 Lol early Tamriel didn't even have proper time.
A long time ago I listened to a TES lore series, but it was so long ago that I don't remember much of it lol. I haven't even played Skyrim in ages either. Thank you for the revisit to old Tamriel though!
Stay well out there everybody, and God be with you, friends. ✝️ :)
Wow & first 🥇! Wish for video about Stargate soon!
At his was such an amazing, digestible, and engrossing video. I can’t wait for the next ones!
Yes Elder Scrolls lore! I used to play all the Elder Scrolls games.
Then I took an arrow to the knee 😔
You did it, wow. You are now the first creator im turning on the notifications for. Youre awesome!
having several generation of historic lore in a single video means there's a lot of details being left out. not necessarily a bad thing but important details such as the nordic giving warriors to alessia during her war with the ayleids (which many claims turns the tide of war for the alessian faction), and how the ayleid kingdoms is badly fragmented and in a strong rivalry with each other, allowing alessia troops to defeat them kingdom by kingdom while their rival ayleid king laughing at the demise of their rival kin, is not mentioned, allowing alessia took all the credits.
that story of hrol banging a hill to make magic babies is new to me, but then again, it's elder scrolls lore.
That's not the point of this video. First half was a general overview.
YES! Here's hoping for a future video on Indoril Nerevar.
13:15 The thu’um in lore compared to the thu’um in game
Yo you guys have been pumping these out like crazy. Y'all are on another level of work ethic
I’d like to say that a lot of what was said about the Aldmeri is very much up to debate. The lore is very complicated on this, and if aldmeris is actually a “real” place is even up for grabs.
Fun Fact: Talos was able to get his forces up and over the "Unscaleable" cliffs because he had Skyrim's famous gravity-defying steeds.
@@ibadurrehman1210 Bethesda writers ruled and still rule, molders of CHIM
@@ibadurrehman1210 The games have conflicting lore, and they actually excuse it by using the real world as an example of an excuse: it was an ancient time so the history gets a bit hazy by the player's "modern" time lol
Raymond actually you and the video are both right. Kyne took pity on the humans that were dominated by dragons and convinced Paarthurnax to teach them the Voice or Thu'um
@@christianwalton7080 could it be because of the Dragon Break event involving the Dwemer and the Numidium?

The only Elder Scrolls game I've ever played was the Morrowind way back in the day. Despite that (or perhaps because of it), this video gave me a powerful wave of nostalgia.
BTW I was wondering since you are covering material from various media, maybe you could also cover the lore of some fantastical worlds that exist only in literature and weren't adapted into visual form yet. I'm specifically thinking about Roshar from the Sormlight Archive.
You should try the others. I am a busy man but i've been playing on and off Skyrim after its 10 year anniversary release on PS4.
Omg, thanks!
Elder scrolls, baby!!!!
Finally, an Elder Scrolls video! I'm already hyped for the next one for sure
7:05 We see what you did there…
YES ! Videos on the Elder Scrolls series is a thing I have been waiting for on this channel !
Unlike in the other series, the actions of the humans against the elves here mainly justified after what they put them through. Am I wrong to say this? I don't know because personally, I like to side with the elves in most cases. But in this case, I am conflicted between my personal liking of the elves and the crimes that have committed against humans.
well, considering their behaviour upto game 5, I would say they had it coming.
Kinda depends tbh
The Ayleids were definitely “evil” by most standards
What happened with the snow elves is up for debate, it could have been the nords or elves that started that conflict.
But either way did they deserve to have their entire civilisation wiped out because of the actions of a few?
The elves of high rock(can’t spell the name) may have done some bad things especially when it comes to the creation of the Bretons but I wouldn’t call them evil
Wood elves are definitely one of the more “peaceful” races
Orcs are …..orcs really
Dark elves are definitely Di*cos no doubt about it
But houses like redoran are pretty decent actually
With high elves it’s actually the humans who are entirely in the wrong
Never did they really threaten human provinces but were constantly invaded
And no matter how awesome a man he was having a race forced to acknowledge Tiber septim as a god after everything he did was evil
The man massacred thousands of elves and then forced them into an empire they didn’t need just to add more insult to injury
So I can definitely sympathise with the altmer
Ultimately no race is perfect especially human and elves races
Finally, thank you so much for touching elder scrolls lore
This makes me so happy you don’t understand
The pictures for the gut gardens truly give life to the general horrible things that aylieds did to the neads
