I had a similar situation. Needless to say, I let it go on much longer than I should have. I can only say that was just youth & inexperience. Make sure you're with someone who likes you for you, and not what they can make you into. I have little patience these days for someone who is constantly criticizing. And some people do it in ways that almost sound suggestive, but if it happens too often, they are not being constructive and should be set straight right away. Nothing should be able to dim that Light you carry inside yourself. Your life belongs only to u and only you can decide if you want to live like this all your life or to be free from this cage. It's not easy and it's a whole journey out of hell, it's not minty sweet. But it worth it, I have been in your shoes. No more neglect, no more humiliation. I deserve more and now I'm surrounded by people who see and recognize and are not intimidated by my true worth and my personality

Clearly there's not enough information and I think Mark that you took the most pessimistic variant - there's a clear border between criticizing someone ("you did something stupid") and putting someone down ("you are stupid"). People do often flip out when somebody tells them they did something _objectively_ wrong, and it's their ego problem and not a reason to dump/avoid them. On the other hand, if his partner keeps telling him he's stupid and inadequate, he should dump him alright :D

I think there is plenty of information in the email. Perhaps I could hire a private investigator to follow them to get video/audio of the interaction? Maybe have a surveillance drone follow them? Btw, I did address the fact that he might be over-reacting.
